View Full Version : dating somebody who isn't Christian
Red Scarlet 11-20-2007, 10:23 PM i know this isn't a religion board or anything but i figured people here may have gone through similar things....
there's this guy i met last semester and we've hit it off real well. but i'm really put off about how he goes out drinking on the weekends with his roomate. he lives in a dorm with some old dude. he's like 24 and smokes and watches pornos. just really gross. so i took my boyfriend to church to hang with better people but he doesn't take it seriously. he says he does but i can tell a lie, y'know? anyway it really bothers me because my faith is #1 to me and always will be. but i just don't want to end what jarrod and i having going. has anybody been in a relationship with somebody with no faith? is it feasible?
julie 11-20-2007, 10:24 PM it's not. give up.
ohnoitsbonnie 11-20-2007, 10:24 PM -_-
GlasgowKiss 11-20-2007, 10:24 PM So long as you put out it'll be ok.
Ghetto_Squirrel 11-20-2007, 10:26 PM I liked it better when you were still posting as Miss World.
Ghetto_Squirrel 11-20-2007, 10:27 PM And while on topic,
Paging Pastor Craig to the thread.
Aeroplane 11-20-2007, 10:29 PM you have to consider the afterlife. you'll be in heaven. he'll be in hell. you sure you want to get that invested in someone who's going to be damned? eternal separation?
duovamp 11-20-2007, 10:30 PM I'll never date anybody who isn't completely dedicated to Jesus Christ and the glorification of God.
BlissedandGone2 11-20-2007, 10:31 PM this thread is a joke right? making fun of mayday?
GlasgowKiss 11-20-2007, 10:32 PM you have to consider the afterlife. you'll be in heaven. he'll be in hell. you sure you want to get that invested in someone who's going to be damned? eternal separation?
You expect a woman not to hold onto hope of changing the guy?
Red Scarlet 11-20-2007, 10:32 PM So long as you put out it'll be ok.
don't laugh, but i honestly believe sex ruins everything. everybody tells me that me and my boyfriend should at least mess around a little and i really want to. but i don't want to end up like my sister. she pretty much screwed up her life just for one night of fun
shannon 11-20-2007, 10:32 PM I'll never date anybody who isn't completely dedicated to Jesus Christ and the glorification of God.
yeah seriously, what the fuck does it matter?
it can only make for funnier arguments

Exactly. You look at how many relationships involve sex and you see that people who have sex before they're married often break up and don't get married. It's just evidence toward God's true Word that you really are better off waiting until marriage to start that kind of covenant with another being.
BlissedandGone2 11-20-2007, 10:36 PM this isnt a joke???
sickbadthing 11-20-2007, 10:36 PM so what kind of christian are you anyway?
BlissedandGone2 11-20-2007, 10:37 PM you know whats funny about this is im pretty much the opposite. i dont date girls who want me to be religious. you should feel lucky the poor bastard even went to church with you. jesus christ! (no pun intended)

Death For Cutie 11-20-2007, 10:43 PM my ex g/f was very religious, we had a good long talk about it early on and decided we could make it work. her parents were actually really ok with it, i think she's more into god than they were and it creeps them out cos they're kinda cynical and she's just this god bothering bitch
anyway, dont bother
Red Scarlet 11-20-2007, 10:44 PM she must not be that bright.
er... she graduated at the top of her class. but the summer before college she went out drinking and stuff. her and her boyfriend started smoking weed or whatever and she stop showing up to the youth ministry meetings she counseled. ugh i wzs freaking out. and then out of nowhere she says shes pregnant
so there you go. a little fun on the side and she couldnt go to college or live her dream... ugh

It's good to hear she was willing to own up to her mistakes and not go through having an abortion. She has so much of my respect for making the right decision even after making so many bad ones.
Thaniel Buckner 11-20-2007, 10:48 PM yeah he's great. the only thing he's propping his argument on is his assertive tone of voice.

Maybe God just doesn't like her that much?
Also, getting pregnant after drinking and stuff and smoking weed or whatever clearly shows that she's not the brightest lass around.
BlissedandGone2 11-20-2007, 10:51 PM er... she graduated at the top of her class. but the summer before college she went out drinking and stuff. her and her boyfriend started smoking weed or whatever and she stop showing up to the youth ministry meetings she counseled. ugh i wzs freaking out. and then out of nowhere she says shes pregnant

just because your sister made bad choices and wound up pregnant doesn't mean partying ruins your life. your logic is way too simple minded. drinking and smoking pot responsibly are fun and safe. sex is fun and safe too if you are responsible. a little fun on the side is harmless unless you fuck up. cmon.
duovamp 11-20-2007, 10:51 PM You guys just haven't been exposed to the truth because of what the liberal public school teachers told all of you. He makes some very substantial points.
Tchocky 11-20-2007, 10:51 PM er... she graduated at the top of her class. but the summer before college she went out drinking and stuff. her and her boyfriend started smoking weed or whatever and she stop showing up to the youth ministry meetings she counseled. ugh i wzs freaking out. and then out of nowhere she says shes pregnant

I think she was living her dream when she went out and partied. Let me guess; you live in a very dull household and have little social freedom outside of church activities. You have any idea how many girls I know that lived in ultra-conservative households that were all about being good Catholic girls in high school (youth group, everything), and then in college turned into crazy party girls? Loads.

its a beautiful process.
Tchocky 11-20-2007, 11:00 PM its a beautiful process.
Yeah, there was this girl that used to go to my church who was an integral part of the core group and was the church secretary to boot. The instant she moved out and went to college, it was nothing but beer pong, beer pong, beer pong. To top it off, she used to be hot, and now she's really obese.
Piggy 11-20-2007, 11:07 PM Yeah, there was this girl that used to go to my church who was an integral part of the core group and was the church secretary to boot. ahh the american dream...
or rather scarlet's sister's dream
monkeyfritters 11-20-2007, 11:10 PM she pretty much screwed up her life just for one night of fun
this happened to me.
Red Scarlet 11-20-2007, 11:11 PM that's bullcrap. i've grown up in anything but a "conservative household." For a good portion of my life I didn't even have a "household" but went from one abusive aunt or uncle or grandparent to the next. I'm not saying everybody should agree with my beliefs but I am saying my without my faith i'd be dead or on the streets like my cousins. no offense, but those of you who mock me have probably lived cushy lives with no need for a faith-based system to get you through hard times...
sickbadthing 11-20-2007, 11:13 PM but those of you who mock me have probably lived cushy lives with no need for a faith-based system to get you through hard times...
Pretty much, yeah.
Isn't this just another alexthestampede troll?
Piggy 11-20-2007, 11:18 PM those of you who mock me have probably lived cushy lives with no need for a faith-based system to get you through hard times...
i only mock you because you're an idiot
Red Scarlet 11-20-2007, 11:19 PM thanks for all the sound advice guys
goodnight
BlissedandGone2 11-20-2007, 11:22 PM but those of you who mock me have probably lived cushy lives with no need for a faith-based system to get you through hard times...
what blatant ignorance. i thought people who are as religious as you are were more accepting of others. there are people who have lived not so cushy lives who have no need for a faith-based system because they know that throwing a penny in a well isn't going to help them in real life.

gods way of punishing her.
Piggy 11-20-2007, 11:33 PM i would bet you 100 bucks its her own fault

At least half of my friends from highschool had a kid with in two years of graduating. Almost all of them went to college and have good jobs now.
Tchocky 11-20-2007, 11:39 PM that's bullcrap. i've grown up in anything but a "conservative household." For a good portion of my life I didn't even have a "household" but went from one abusive aunt or uncle or grandparent to the next. I'm not saying everybody should agree with my beliefs but I am saying my without my faith i'd be dead or on the streets like my cousins. no offense, but those of you who mock me have probably lived cushy lives with no need for a faith-based system to get you through hard times...
I'm not mocking anything, silly. I'm saying that, based on my personal observations, girls that go nuts in college after spending their adolescence among Christ's and academia's elite have more often than not typically lived in households that are mind-numbingly regimental and conservative. They get all this abrupt freedom after moving out to go to school and they don't know what to do with it. They're not forced to go to church or do their homework anymore, and then they start partying like it's 1999 all over again.
Many of the girls I know that were crazy in high school took the higher path after graduating and actually did something positive in their lives, probably because by the time they got to college, they were all partied out (this is not universal, mind you; some of the girls I knew that were nuts in high school still are nuts and are probably living in a trailer park with a pile of kids from three different guys).
This has nothing to do with your faith. Faith can be a good thing. And regardless of what your friends say, "messing around a little bit" can turn into a slippery slope. So if that is what you choose, be careful.
And my life has been anything but cushy.

MonteLDS 11-21-2007, 12:46 AM so this guy = your boyfriend?
I just want to make sure I got that clear...
I don't think its wise to date someone who doesn't have the same belief as you do.
BlissedandGone2 11-21-2007, 12:48 AM monte ftw

you don't think it's possible at all?
AnnMarie727 11-21-2007, 12:58 AM ha! most guys you have to drag to the altar honey. that's what women do. it's part of our job.
no im sure there are lots of guys that have strong faith. if you want a guy that has strong faith already you could go get one. but you picked a guy who needs help. your choice. i've dated the devil and tried to save him and he wouldnt' have it. the guy i have now is doing just fine with God and he's beautiful. had to work a few kinks outta him but it's working out just swell. =) Pray about it too God will help you always! you know this =)
Piggy 11-21-2007, 12:59 AM its not thats its impossible... its that it causes more trouble than its usually worth
MonteLDS 11-21-2007, 12:59 AM you don't think it's possible at all?
i don't think it is wise.
your relationship may be good the surface, but the roots are what nurture the relationships. the roots being your core beliefs.

plus when i get married it's going to be in Church in the eyes of God. so whoever i marry is gonna be very farmiliar with God. i wont have it any other way
wHATcOLOR 11-21-2007, 01:06 AM that video is definitely the most obnoxious thing i've seen in months.

you are being a selfish, stuck up, condescending moron and if i were a christian im sure i would assume you were going to hell. if you think everyone in the world who doesn't have religious faith needs help then you are a close-minded freak of a woman. on top of that if you think its part of all women's job to drag men around on a leash to fix them then you are a sexist fool and men and women alike should look down on you.

you don't think it's possible at all?
yes, it is. but it depends.
assuming the main problem would be what to teach your future kids...if either of you desperately want kids, then it's a safe bet it will probably be a problem. but if you're fine with not having kids, then it can work.
B is Catholic and I am Baptist and we aren't having kids. problem solved. she can continue believing what she does and I can continue believing what I do and, at least it makes for interesting conversations sometimes.
Eulogy 11-21-2007, 01:40 AM this thread makes me want to pull my hair out
don't worry, it's fine. i have no idea why i answered genuinely, to be honest.

why couldn't you teach them both faiths (and encourage them to explore other ones) and then let them actually figure it out on their own?
if you're going to say they aren't old enough to understand how different faiths exist, then you have to concede that they aren't old enough to understand any type of faith at all.
why couldn't you teach them both faiths (and encourage them to explore other ones) and then let them actually figure it out on their own?
eh. they would figure out on their own, anyway.
Eulogy 11-21-2007, 01:46 AM eh. they would figure out on their own, anyway.
yeah, that makes sense, considering the vast majority of religious people were raised in their current faith.
Eulogy 11-21-2007, 01:46 AM and if you do actually believe that, then it undermines your whole point anyway.
i don't see anything wrong with taking your children to the church you yourself attends. if i wouldn't take my kids, why would i even be going?
Trotskilicious 11-21-2007, 01:57 AM it's pretty much mandatory that i date someone that isn't christian
Trotskilicious 11-21-2007, 01:59 AM sorry D. it's better you find out before we start anything serious
i renounce my faith to be with you!
Trotskilicious 11-21-2007, 02:01 AM see now i love that
i can take heretics in definitely, but you have to take a shit in a confessional. although you might not be catholic...still, defiling a place of worship will really turn me on.
this will be the perfect way to leave B, too!

Eulogy 11-21-2007, 02:06 AM i don't see anything wrong with taking your children to the church you yourself attends. if i wouldn't take my kids, why would i even be going?
by this logic, you have no reason to go since you don't have any kids
by this logic, you have no reason to go since you don't have any kids
huh?
i'm saying, if i like the church i attend as much as i do, why wouldn't i take my kids. (besides, it's more about faith than what church i attend...to me, anyway.)
man, you really will argue anything, won't you? even if there's nothing to argue.

well that's not what you said now, is it? you said 'why would i even be going?' which is a completely different question.
but yeah, it's all my fault.
