You want a version of Machina II that just gets over with a little faster than the previous version, eh?

I think all the versions are on the archive, T&T. That's where I got my recent DL of it. Previously only had the ~2000 original 192KMp3 release. Still have those CD rips, if you want me to mail them.

i have it at my parents place in mp3 format, no idea of the linage, i got some guy i didn't know from a pumpkins email list to burn me a CD of the mp3's, and they are definatley the speed wonky mp3's. don't even know the bitrate.

next time i'm there i'll grab it if you haven't found a source by then (could be a month or more)

edit: by the way your an absolute nut - not only for wanting to track this down, but to want it in flac? :p

seriously...

i have this somewhere, as i said last time. but i'm not 100% sure where. i'm pretty disorganized. what i have is either the mp3s or .wavs made from the mp3s. i don't particularly remember .shn files being put up anywhere (no one was really using flac in the SP community until like 2002), but that doesn't mean they weren't around (though i kind of feel like if they were around, i would have downloaded them).

this hasn't been traded in lossless
but eric did personally make Wave cd's from his rip and give those to friends (in hand)
(or so i've read in post histories)

lots of those were ripped to mp3's & were traded online
it would be nice if one of those people did a proper rip today to share.....

and as for josh's mix... :erm:
i'll throw it in the pile with the thir13en version....

yeah, this was discussed earlier.
i think there were some people who would check if they had one of these wave sourced cds, but we never heard back from them.

hey, just asking why you are so keen to hear it? i mean i consider myself a bit of a collectors nut, but a dodgy rip? you could use an audio program to speed up an alternate MII source and get the general feel! haha

i used to have a download of the agnew rip, it was my first machina ii download.
ignorantly ditched it when the better rips came out.....
all the versions that successfully came out all got cleaner and clearer...SPIFC < Q101
so it's part nostalgia,
and partly because that rip does have a different feel
Why not maintain a quality version of the "first impressions" the album had on us when we first listened to it?

uh wait so you'll take mp3s? these are they: Metro | Chicago (http://www.metrochicago.com/pumpkins/)

SPFC is the slowest
then Q101
Virgin is fastest of the 3 "official"

(13) is the same speed as the q101

this MetroChicago is faster then the three. :banging:
so it's a DIFFERENT RIP!!!!!
:)

and it really does sound like what my ears have been dreaming about all along.

THANKS TCM

i'm gonna assume this is the agnew rip... unless someone wants to prove otherwise.

they're the same speed as the josh camp (R S P A A : the Reborn Smashing Pumpkins Audio Archive (http://www.rspaa.org/rspaa/Miscellaneous/Machina%20II%20%5Bjosh%20c%5D/)) tracks
i'm gonna jump the gun and confirm the tracks hosted at metro chicago as the agnew ~3% fast rip.

the josh comp is heavily eq'd. and not all tracks are present. (i might be over-using the word heavy)

some of it seems virgin speed.

ie. lucky 13, try alt, real love?

and did anyone ever establish which rip the o-site "lofi" official 320kbps mp3's and real audio files were from? one of these or a different source? (possibly digital source?)

they are the closest to the virgin (imho)
but i'd say they're a different rip (probably NOT transferred from the vinyl)

i was always under the impression that the o-site 320kbps was the same as the virgin... i dont' have em, can't check.

i'll download those too if someone has em.

What's crazy about the 3% faster is of course the fact that the pitch of every instrument/voice is unnaturally raised. For example if my guitar was in E-flat tuning....say I just played along with Stand Inside Your Love...now if I wanted to play along with the 3% faster version of Let Me Give the World To You, my guitar would not be in tune with it at all, even though the song is in E-flat...I guess it's ok to listen to the album a little faster, but it is not the true version of the song, because you are also hearing strange in between pitches of the instruments that wasn't their tuning in the studio....

I have no idea. Maybe someone can give Eric a nudge and get him to shed some more light on his transfer. He burned the discs while we (Ammy and I) were sitting in his office. I feel like I recall seeing a turntable, but can't remember anything about it. I only remember the Jawa perched on one of his monitors and how cool it was to hold the vinyl.

this rip was simply the "first" i listened to
the virgin, SPFC & Q101 rips came much later
rotten apples wasn't released yet, so there was no official reference point to exactly what pitch/speed it was supposed to play at
(who's gonna complain about a bad rip, when it's a free album :) )
getting this out to the public quickly was of the essence,

as better rips came along, many of us just discarded previous "lower quality" versions,
but 8 years later, the nostalgia of what that first rip sounded like still remains
it's nice to know others have been wanting this as well.

but personally, I do like listening to my albums faster and higher pitch in general
I like more aggressive vocals and a harsher treble
and I like that "edge" .
it's an exaggeration and distortion of billy's already harsh voice
it just rocks that much harder imho
here's a sample  ... http://www.sendspace.com/file/i4v3wz

This was my ultra-hi-fi setup :P"

unknown stylus cartridge (replaced in late 90s for ~$20, IIRC, & barely used) >
Sony PS-LX150H turntable >
Sony LBT-D159 stereo (RCA in) >
Sony PCM-M1 DAT (line in)

This was a "get it out there, now" release. I didn't have the greatest equipment- the turntable (which was black, btw :P") had 2 speeds (33-1/3 & 45) w/ no fine adjustment (that I know of)- but I figured someone else would release a better one eventually anyway. 4) Billy Corgan's Copy. Formerly available only in 320kbps from his website, now unavailable "officially."
I always thought this was the same as the virgin rip.
