Alright, yes I'm a newbie, this is my first post, but I'm am long time fan.
I have FINALLY gotten my ticket to see SP!
;) :P the music gods are smiling down on me because it's quite amazing that I'm going. Not only did I manage to win one ticket for a good price without having to fight for it (guess no one else was willing to go alone), not only is the concert on a Friday night during a non-busy week (i'm an 18 credit hour college student so time is limited), but the Smashing Pumpkins are coming to play in Columbia, South Carolina! No one comes to play here! Least of all my favorite bands!
So anyways now that my excitement rant is done, who else is going?
and does anyone know how this venue is about cameras?

Ever since Tuesday's news, I've had this feeling that the rest of the scheduled dates--the Columbia, SC show being the last of them--would be canceled/postponed. I know there's been no announcement yet, but that's just my gut feeling. If Jimmy needs a week of rest, why go back out and play one or two shows right after that? I guess they might attempt to reschedule the postponed shows as soon as possible after Nov. 9, but it just seems to me like they won't play any of the currently scheduled dates as currently scheduled. I hope I'm wrong.

On this tour, SP is playing around 2 hours to 2:15 on average. You can check www.spfc.org and then go to the tour history section to see some recent setlists. Explosions In The Sky have been getting around 40 minutes.

No recording = it didn't happen.
Seriously, what's with 2007? Recording equipment is cheaper, more common, and easier to use now. There have been about 20 or 25 soundchecks supposedly heard, and yet a grand total of ONE recorded, for a 20 or 25:1 ratio. Back in the day (2000 - yes, I=old), the ratio of soundchecks we heard anything about to soundchecks that got taped was about 1:1. People used to be holding mics up to cracks in doors during soundcheck; now they're sitting there with their laptops or web-enabled phones logging onto Netphoria.

The show was great! Monte and I were front row center!! :D Billy was in an awesome mood. He was being very dramatic, even for him, LOL. To me it sounded like he improvised a little during the solos of songs were he usually plays the same thing every time. The Hootie and the Blowfish tease was hilarious! The whole place was screaming like crazy! The crowd was more intense than at a lot of shows I've been to. A lot of crowd surfers and shoving up at the front.
At the end of Lucky 13 they played the cool heavy outro that we have heard before, but Billy then started singing some lyrics... I do not know what song it was. (they may have done this before, I'm not sure...) Jeff was really into it tonight, seems like maybe he took some pointers from EITS about how to move around on stage. OH! And Glass and the Ghost Children was FUCKING AWESOME!!!!
They wore the white outfits tonight. Jimmy had on bright orange and black striped socks ;)

I was 2nd balcony (my wife didn't want to stand again like we did at the Fillmore for approx. 5 hours), directly to the left if facing the stage. I really enjoyed the show, but was a bit disappointed that, other than G+GC, Lucky 13, and HMM, we heard only singles plus some Zeitgeist songs. Don't get me wrong, I had a great time, and the Hootie cover was hilarious, but I was hoping for a WBFTT, LMGTWTY, STRTJ, or even Ava Adore (which I know is another single but I would've been jazzed to hear). Still, I did get to hear a lot of songs I hadn't heard at my previous show (07/16), so I'm satisfied. And I'll be in IL 12/20-12/29, so if any shows happen in that range, I'm there.

Knowing that they rehearsed those songs during the sound check is exciting and I wonder if they will play them sometime soon. I’m still skeptical of them playing any Chicago shows this year so hopefully they will reintroduce these songs next year.
By the way, is the “on the road again” tease no longer part of HMM?
So I guess he didn’t come out at either show to greet the fans? By your accounts he seemed like he was a in a great mood. Odd that he didn’t stop to chat. Thanks for the reviews.

The show was great. My 1st Pumpkins show since the 2nd to last show at he United Center. My 15th show overall dating back to 1993 at the Aragon.
I know a lot of you have seen sp07 several times already buy I can't get over Billy's Guitar tones. Amazing!! SIYL was so clean and loud it was near perfection. All the Zeitgeist stuff DESTROYED the album stuff. I mean TTW was even impressive. The band was VERY tight. I have beed to some great shows but this was the best sounding by far.
L13, HMM, US, & Tarantula were to die for from a drumming/bass perspective. Jimmy was on point as always, the man is so talanted at some points it looked like he was asleep during extreme percussion manuvers. His upperbody is very still.
Ginger RAWKED as always. Her & Jeff seem VERY into the real old stuff. Lisa was great. Love the KEYTAR. Love her stuff on Tonight Tonight. Iha is dead to me after last night. I mean totally irrelevant.
The crowd around me was very strange. There was this disgustingly huge couple with way to small of a shirt on making out for about 80% of the show. And there were a few couples that seemed really into the show that left during gatg & never returned.
Also, I was amazed at demographics. It was all the same people that I went to these shows with in the 90s. I mean there were maybe 10 people in the whole place under 25. I saw 2 emo kids and your usual marilyn manson crew but other than that it was 25-35 FTW. The line for a bracelet to get beer was 200 deep, i rolled with the 3$ diet coke.
O & WTF did T-Shirt prices fucking triple? I mean 95$ for a fucking hoodie? Jesus, first sp show i didn't but about 4 things from.
Explosions absolutely put me to sleep. WTF. One long ass boring jam that started nowhere, went nowhere and ended at the same point. O and tune your guitar bro.
i agree.. best sounding show i've ever been to, and this is by far the best i've seen the band play on this tour. everything about this show was great.. people just need to get over not hearing certain songs.. sp have played over 500 songs.. someone will always be disappointed... you get what you get and then it's over.. people just need to enjoy what they get instead of getting all bent all to hell because they didn't play an obscure song they haven't played in 10 years.
show highlights:
zero - especially the ending
that's the way - mmm lisa standing in front of me
lucky 13 - with alternate ending
heavy metal machine (best version i've heard so far... white rabbitt kicked ass)
united states - best performance of this song on the tour. hands down.

Great show, i was at greensboro the night before and this was the better show. It sounded like they rolled Lucky 13 right into a metalica cover, but i can't place it, and I may be totally wrong. I was really surprised how into Tarantula people got, it seems like no one gets up for the new stuff but Tarantula got a nice reaction. Glass was awesome and the Hootie song was very unexpected but fun.

Are you talking about the guys near the center? Because Gio  came into the crowd and gave those guys a lecture during That's the Way.

Yeah that's probably them. One of them almost got thrown out for smoking until he threw down his cigarette and started lying. They were extremely annoying. I don't mind when people get into the music, but they were there just to ruin everyone else's experience.

Yes, they were very drunk. There were a bunch of small girls there around me (and them) and they were getting pushed around a lot... Not cool. :noway:

We saw at least one guy get thrown out early--they took him all the way out of the floor area at least. I guess he could have returned.
I thought Explosions in the Sky were great, other than the fact that some quiet parts were too quiet to hear over the crowd.
And while I did bitch a little about the setlist, I must reiterate that I had a wonderful time! I wish I had gone to the Greensboro show too!

I loved Explosions in the Sky. I thought they were great even though there was no singing. My husband and I were right infront of Ginger. If you heard a guy screaming his lungs out during Glass and the Ghost Children, that was probably him. lol.

So we read in a interview that some older classics seem right to play..and others don't.
Why go through these classics, with instruction full band, full songs, if you never intend on playing them live?
I bet chicago will get some special shows. Seems like the band is rehearsing for Chicago right now.

you might not know that they don't feel right or won't work until you've tried them out a little.

So full Geek USA
Lilly (short)
Mayo full band!!!!!
How did the Geek USA sound? That's one song that I worry how Billy's vocals would sound on this tour, i.e. sometimes he sounds like he's holding back somewhat. For Geek he's gotta let it all out

I knew someone looked familiar. I guess it was Monte...for some reason I thought you lived far away from SC...like Canada or something.
Those german asshats were annoying. The guy with the piercings didn't really sing any of the lyrics or nod in rhythm so he was there pretty much just to be an ass. I remember him saying "I'll f-ing kill anyone, I'm f-ing german...I don't care!" I asked them "what are you guys like 13 or something?!" and one replied that "Man, we're just trying to have some fun" and I was like "Well, there are some hardcore fans up front here and they don't think that is 'fun' ". I just love the german's rationale..."I'm german!" and you're surrounded by Americans that love the f-ing Pumpkins! Moron. The dude with the white shirt and shaved head got in their faces after the concert and I really thought they were going to fight cause we were ready to help them out, but his buddy said it wasn't worth getting court-marshalled over so he backed down after talking some more sh*t.
I didn't really expect them to play Hootie. I did expect them to play XYU, WBFTT, STRTJ and Gossamer, but they didn't! I basically got to hear 3 new songs that I hadn't heard in the two Asheville shows me and my bro saw.

oh yes, there were a few hotties there. must have been local gamecocks. ol' couch ass, i forgot that you were from around here, i may have seen you.
i thought it was slightly retarded when a few (2, i think) people started crowdsurfing to an acoustic 1979...i bet billy was like these morons are f-ing stupid.
i was hoping to see billy at the metal Sawfest show in columbia last night. it was pretty hardcore and had some hotter chicks. had a guy trippin' on acid riding around on a red tricycle (like in the movie) in the middle of the mosh pit! he reminded me of the grease, paint, and monkey brains clown in the astro-creep 2000 liner notes...f-ing sick.

o ol' couch ass, i forgot that you were from around here, i may have seen you.
I got there late and had shit tickets. Luckily I was able to make my way to general admission with a bribe of the guy handing out bracelets. I was content to hang out just to the left of middle stage about halfway back in the crowd. Towards the end of the show I made it closer to the front but spent the last couple of songs trying to keep boots from hitting my dome. I was wearing a Buckethead shirt so if you saw the shirt then you saw me.

i think i did see you then. i think you were about 4-5 people to the left of me...i was in that area up front between billy and ginger, moreso closer to billy, but as the moshing began i started getting about 5 people back from the front rails...i was just wearing jeans and the drifter sp shirt from asheville.
how many shows have you seen monte? you must have a cool job that allows you to see sp across the country...
i really enjoyed bring the light since i had been hoping they played that at asheville. the solo doesn't do it justice compared to the album version though...i love that first note in the album version, it's so happy and screamy!

XYU!!!! They played like 30 seconds then stoped and started up again!!!
2nd time at xyu they played w/o lyrics and up to the 4th line. Then stoped
they also soundchecked a reworked gossamer recently but i'm too tired to look up the quote.

wish i had checked out the SP boards before the shows i went to... i was there in the front row with MONTE for zwan in san francisco for their one and only show there, and waiting out front all day in line to get there.
i was going to say i have a picture of Billy going to the balcony but Monte's video is far, far better.
if anyone is interested in the few pictures i took from Greensboro and Columbia, they are on my myspace. a few good ones.
