Ok so there is ultra rare trax but it is mp3 sourced. not only that but outdated. i dont have everything but i got a few cd with rarities and b-sides. my question is how much interest would there be if i got everything together and kind of revamped a collection? kind of like the official sp b-side catalog but lossless and without all the fluff. prolly around 2-3 cds. and i would probably need help getting more sources for the songs.

Wow, you do realize that you can convert them yourself, and even if you didn't want to a half hour after it's out someone will do it for you.

You shouldn't complain about having a tiny hd these days.

I bought a Seagate 500GB SATA/300 drive for $119 last week at Circuit City.

Also, if you guys need any contributions, let me know. I still have the Smashing Pumpkins Vinyl Collection(SPVC) (http://members.shaw.ca/cdrchow/music/sp/sp_spvc.txt) from years ago. Probably the best sources for vinyl that I've heard.

Isn't there a compilation that has all of the SP remixes? I remember seeing a tracklisting a couple years ago. Does anyone know what the deal is with that?

yea the vinyl stuff will be hard. i have the starseed vinyl rips but im still missing a few so if you can send it to me please do. right now im really working on the list of what to *******. i think ill make a few compilations, one with just remixes (perfect, 1979, teitbite, etc) that may it will look prettier than mixing them with the other stuff. maybe one of all side project stuff. not quite sure. but there are some things that are definite.

I recall trying to download SPVC over dial-up. . . never did finish getting it, so I'd love to get another chance at that.

And the b-sides compilation would be cool; very cool. I mean, sure, I've got them in mp3 format, and have most of the tracks on the actual singles, but that's all up in a box in my closet. so yeah, way cool to have lossless copy available on my hard drive.
Honestly I'm not so interested in the remixes or the tracks where Billy is just a special guest, but I suppose if all tracks would be available for download separately we might as well just go for broke.

In general I'm not for the sharing of lossless material, but I'm not gonna go and buy 20 Explosive Dynamic Super Smash Hit Explosions just for the 1 kick-ass track.

yea i agree. the side project and remix stuff would just ruin the flow. especially when there are like 7 remixes or the same song in a row. what ill do is end up putting all that stuff in a seperate collection. probably have a b-sdies collection, remix collection, and side project collection.

althought from the description i dont think it sounds like it qualifies. i thought it was a live cover but i guess they are just in the band.

also, i was looking for opinions on tracklisting. i was gonna just put them in chronological order like ultra rare tracks but the more i think about it the more i think it would be better to put them in a more aesthetically pleasing flow of sorts. as if it were PI or Judas O. also i think a cool name (possibly in the tradition of PI or Judas O) would be merited.

why would you throw demos and covers together? you're making things more complicated than they should be.

as for demos, the list is long. i wouldn't make a list of songs, but rather of demo tapes, etc. (some overlap, and it's not a complete list either)
- smashing pumpkins
- moon
- reel time studios
- reel time studios (acoustic session)
- qaos
- billy's gravity demos i
- 666
- mcis demos i
- mcis demos ii
- mcis demos iii
- adore demos
- adore b-sides
- machina acoustic demos
- faeomm
+ some stuff like i fall or some demos off mashed potatoes

isn't there a demo of Tear still out there to go along with the Eye demo (both were submitted as possibilities for the lost highway soundtrack, if I remember correctly)? I would love to hear both of these if they ever leak.

why has no "eye demo" ever surfaced?
1. does it exist? (dunno.)
2. if it exists, do you think it will have any other tracks than already available on the other demo tapes, such as moon, the 5-track sampler, and others? (i don't think so.)

I'm impressed with myself today. The only one I don't have is 666, and that's cuz the only copy I've found/pursued is the shitty one on RSPAA.

yep, i am one (limited potential) and tristessa (sub pop) are the only ones.
you put it a bit weird though. there's an i am one single with the gish version too.
and the different i am one and tristessa were recorded before they started on gish.

oh, and if you want to, you could also add peel sessions' siva to the different versions.

ok, if we're talking about whether Ascendo is Billy or SP (my vote, doesn't matter ******* it in the compilation) we might as well consider whether it's worth it to ******* the Star-Spangled Banner from the Cherub Rock single. . . I mean, it's some drunk in a karaoke bar.

Hey, did ANYbody other than me download that torrent off oink last year, called "Cessetations of grandeur"(or something)?
It was 7 discs of perfect flac with every damn thing. Amazing vinyl rips, including the vinyl only mixes of teitbite.
It *******d starchildren songs, as well as ascendo etc. I have it all on my external drive, which is caseless until my new one comes on wednesday. Please don't put all this work into something that is already done.
Unless you already know of this compilation, I promise that you will not be disappointed. If you can wait till wednesday night for my update, you'll save yourself alot of stress.
Every track in the TAFH discog. (everything) plus TAFH & beyond thru 2000.

Oh yeah, ^ Spaceboy? That's on there too.

I was going to mention it after i asked the OP if it would all be his own rips, because i thought it might be nice to do it from ths guy's stuff as then at least it's all ripped by the same person, same version of FLAC etc. but i just never did
I don't remember how good the vinyl rips are and i've been meaning to listen to them again "but i just never did"

four giglebitz. wowie zowie.

I was just checking my SPVC download, and Bullet Train to Osaka isn't working. Anyone else have this problem?

Edit: Scratch that. For some reason there's two Bullet Trains in the folder, and the second one works. Odd.

Does the "Cessations Of Grandeur" torrent still exist? 9 Disks, 4 Gigs!! It looks like it was a GREAT compulation! I would love to download it... Where was the torrent hosted?

Anyway this new compulation is looking great also, where will the torrent be hosted? I think I need an invite to Oink... can some one send me one? Or will it be hosted on Mininova or something similar?

About Oink....

FUUUCK!!!!! NOOOOOO!!!!!!

...ahem..

SO! Yeah, the vinyl rips in the aformentioned torrent were perfect. I decoded all mine to AIFF, so once I re-encode it to FLAC (This isn't a lossy transcode), I'll seed it. If somebody else seeds this first, I may not be able to help, as the FLAC's may end up being a diff. size.

If anybody is still thinking of making a different, new comp. after what The New posted, Puh-leaze.

I can't wait to get this back out there

shouldn't we try to get the original torrent going again?

Cool As Ice Cream

if possible, yeah, sure. i don't think wpc33 still has the original files though.

in my opinion it's not that important though. this compilation is full of cd rips (which i won't download). it's not a live recording you're trying to keep as pure as possible.

does this imply that the creator of the torrent transferred/ripped everything himself? it's a very vague source description. could as well mean he just downloaded everything from different sources and re-encoded it to flac...

also: "missing: drown (edit)": isn't this one on rotten apples?

The buttholes I ordered my new enclosure from are taking forever to get the thing in from across-country. They said Wednesday, now it's Friday. Patience is a virtue...or so I tell myself.

EDIT: I have to work tomorrow 6-6. I might miss the pick-up office. If I do, it could be Monday for god's sake. I'll do my best. That is all. This will happen. God, I feel like Billy.

I must say yes, despite the maybe-my-fault thing where it seemed like the item was in stock, when it ambiguously was in stock on the other side of the country where they're primarily located. I had to wait 9 calendar days to get it. I just hooked it up now.
I'm organizing & encoding the flac's right now. More later.

I didn't believe you at first, so I just ripped the three Puffy remixes. They all have a drop just before 16kHz. First track:

SMASHING PUMPKINS
1998
Puff Daddy "Perfect" Remixes
Studio
Virgin In-House CDR > CDR > EAC > Wav > Flac

Set list:

1. Perfect (MP Mix) 4:11
2. Perfect (Vocal Up) 4:11
3. Perfect (Instrumental) 4:11

This was one of two remixes Puff Daddy did for The Smashing Pumpkins back in 1998
(the other being Ava Adore, which has not surfaced).
These remixes were comissioned but never used because apparently Puff Daddy wanted too much money.

In August of 1998, two copies of a Virgin in-house CDR (with dot matrix printed inserts!)
showed up on eBay. I bought one of them. The seller told me he retrieved them from a dumpster
at Virgin Records.

A few years later I sold the original CDR to another collector, but ripped the CD before selling
it. This distribution is sourced from my rip, which is why there is an extra CDR gen in the lineage.

Not the Pumpkins' finest hour, but an interesting curiosity nonetheless.
