View Full Version : ken andrews last night @ double door
davin 10-10-2007, 09:21 AM another kickass Ken Andrews show last night.
first off, i was most pleasently surprised by Charlotte Martin....she's like the lovechild of Into The Pink era Tori + On era Ken Andrews (understandably so, since KA produces her stuff). I was really impressed with her voice and "instensity" live. She opened with a cover of Massive Attack's Angel...it was pretty chilling.
As expected, KA played a mix of his new solo stuff, Failure stuff, and YOTR stuff (no On stuff this time). Got to hear Lie Down and 2 Failure songs he did not play last time. It was fucking awesome. :2thumbsup
Best yet, he had a Live CD available (on the tour only) that was a recording of the last DoubleDoor show he played, which I also attended. Great quality. I can upload for those that are interested, but something tells me it will be in my car for a while... ;)
CM also had a tour CD, which is a collection of covers including Angel, Pearl Jam's Elderly Woman..., as well as a bunch of others.
GrungeGuy 10-10-2007, 11:03 PM I would deffinitly be interested in hearing that live Ken record. I saw him at Knitting Factory in NY quite a few months ago and I really enjoyed the show.
cjs42079 10-11-2007, 11:35 AM Same here - please share the live KA!
davin 10-11-2007, 11:48 AM sure, no problem i will post it. just need to get it out of my car first (its been in the rotation since the show). :D
i think there's several others on here i have discussed KA with that would be interested too.
waltermcphilp 10-11-2007, 12:07 PM i would be interested. failure and YOTR are awesome. whats his solo stuff sound like?
davin 10-11-2007, 02:22 PM vocals, lyrics and song-writing are all unmistakingly Ken Andrews....however he makes a lot more electronica/synth choices on his solo efforts with guitar usually as a supplement rather than the focus. this goes for the ON discs as well as the new solo material.
so lets just say there aren't tons of songs in drop D like with Failure... ;)
still good though. I'll upload his latest solo album to the YSI thread again...
Charmbag 10-11-2007, 04:14 PM I wanna go to his show on monday but I'd probably have to go by myself
schmokes 10-12-2007, 09:19 AM I can't believe I missed his show down here in Florida..I'll be kicking myself for that one for a while....Put me down as one who would love to hear his live disc.

go!
silverfrick 10-12-2007, 07:48 PM I saw Ken October 2nd in DC. Great show. Charlotte played a version of "Just Like Heaven" that was sadder than the original. I liked her. She looks like a Barbie Doll playing un-Barbie music. I was there hoping to hear some Failure and got at least a couple songs. Dirty Blue Balloons, Heliotropic, and The Nurse Who Loved Me with Ken and Charlotte performing as a duet on the latter. It was a great evening.
Charmbag 10-12-2007, 08:44 PM Heliotropic, and The Nurse Who Loved Me
I hope he plays these here. Heliotropic kicks so much ass.
davin 10-12-2007, 09:58 PM chances are good!
the other night i got to hear undone, heliotropic, stuck on you, dirty blue balloons...as well as the nurse who loved me duet (as an encore).
plus 2 YOTR songs and 5 or 6 songs off the new record.
Charmbag 10-12-2007, 10:00 PM weird that he's playing my favorite song and my least favorite song (Dirty Blue Balloons). dunno why but that one always stuck out to me as being a little blah.
silverfrick 10-12-2007, 11:40 PM Tell me this version of it doesn't kick ass.

not yet.
Fattening Ass 10-19-2007, 03:42 AM Just got back from Tonight's SF show. What an amazing show. Quite a bit of fuckups, but man it was fucking great. First Wave Hello's set was jsut as good if not better than the last time they played. I really tried to get into Charlotte Martin, but I couldn't really get into her. She played a cover of Interpol's Obstacle 1, and I thought it was cool.
Ken's set went like this:
Allergic
Secret Things
Up or down
Soluble Words
Lie Down
Absent Stars
Something
Magnified
Sergeant Politeness
Dirty Blue Balloons
Stuck on You [Encore]
The Nurse Who Loved Me w/Charlotte Martin on Keys/Vox [Encore]
I think that was it. Something was Kickass. The band was tight and all the tunes sounded excellent. I ended up buying Essentials (finally!), Ken's Live Disc and First Wave Hello's debut.

jenga66 10-19-2007, 12:42 PM I'm having a listen at the CD Davin put up and it's fucking amazing. By the look of the cover it looks like it was recorded at the Troubadour in West Hollywood.

actually it was recorded at the Double Door, last year in Chicago.
Ken made a comment at this most recent show that "if you were here last time, you'll hear yourself screaming on the new live disc".
looking back at my old post from that show (http://forums.netphoria.org/showthread.php?p=2574290), the setlist matches exactly...except for tracks 3 and 5 (which are reversed)...but thats probably just because i screwed up.
