View Full Version : tapers: Vancouver, WA - 9/21
jczeroman 09-18-2007, 04:11 PM I will be video-taping this show and I believe I have another filmer lined up. I intend to cut a DVD together. If someone is recording audio and can provide it to me that would be excellent. Is anyone else looking to tape this show?
Professor Fox 09-18-2007, 04:28 PM Vancouver is in Washington?
jczeroman 09-18-2007, 06:20 PM Yes, it's the fourth largest city in the state.
I sure as hell ain't driving to Canada on Friday!
MisterSquishyHalo 09-18-2007, 06:24 PM The Portland metro area *******s Vancouver I believe. Vancouver is growing by leaps and bounds.
Good luck in finding a audio taper! :)
Professor Fox 09-18-2007, 06:25 PM Well I'll be damned. I guess you learn something new every day.

This is because no income tax in Vancouver and no sales tax in Oregon. You live in Vancouver so you can shop in a Portland Safeway.

I hope you're planning on stealthing the cams in. SP haven't been good at all about informing venues about the OT policy.

Really? I am not going to be able to sneak them in. Arg.... I will show up with as much documentation and tit-for-tat intimidation as I can.
cryptowave 09-22-2007, 01:45 PM So how did the taping go for this show?
I'm also in Eugene... i'd love to get a copy ;)
jczeroman 09-22-2007, 02:07 PM Myself and the other guy I had filming were both stopped by security. I argued with them to no avail. I have 2 minutes of United States if anyone wants it....
redbull 09-22-2007, 02:12 PM yeah, this is an awesome OT policy. Wonder if the audio came out...
JRiordan 09-22-2007, 03:28 PM They really need to inform venues of their policy. If they fail to do so, the policy isn't worth much.
Gio told us after the Las Vegas show that the venues could overrule the policy, but I really don't think they have even informed any venues since the Fillmore shows.
If tiny jambands can make their policies clear to venues, why not SP? Sad.
Brute Squad 09-22-2007, 05:33 PM Has anyone actually done anything about the taping policy besides complaining on an internet message board? Write a letter people!
New Art Rioter 09-22-2007, 08:05 PM Who is Gio? The tour manager at the moment?

I emailed The Pearl (the venue they played in Las Vegas) a few days before the show with links on smashingpumpkins.com to Billy's announcement of their policy. Never got a response (not surprisingly), and at the venue they did not let Monte bring his camera in, and gave other people problems too until they confirmed with management.
Anyway, I will send something to SP.com / PumpkinsMediaMilitia or whatever other contact they have on there
Brute Squad 09-24-2007, 03:15 PM I just e-mailed back and forth with SP's management.
I told them that fans have been barred from entering venues with audio or video recording equipment on multiple occasions, despite the consensus that recording Smashing Pumpkins' shows is allowed.
Their response was "We alert every venue of our policy to allow taping. If someone was stopped it was done by someone who was wrong and doesn't work for us but the venue. If this happens people should ask that a member of our organization on the road be reached by the venue so that it can be resolved."
I responded, saying that despite this being done, security seems to be oblivious to this fact. I asked if there is a name that can be "dropped" and I that kept reading about a guy named Gio.
Their response was that "Gio is the head of our security. Yes."
Based on this I think we can safely assume that if you run into trouble, ask to speak with Gio, the head of Smashing Pumpkins' security.

Venues will probably come up with "The Imaginary Tour Manager (TM)" then. I can't remember how often venue people have pretended to talk to someone from the band just to tell me the exact opposite of the band's policy ;)
When I tried to openly tape the Pumpkins in Colmar, France, the band's FOH sound engineer even told the venue people that taping is allowed. They came up with funny stories about imaginary audio-passes required for taping. I stealthed...
