Having the show on the 2nd makes more sense - could they play Atlanta on 10/31 and Austin on 11/1? I doubt it. It's almost 1000 miles!

this is awesome....11/2 is the day I fly into TX for the Dallas show. And yes, you guessed it, we'll be making the 3hr drive to Austin for this show as well!!!

Thank god I chose to get into DFW at 10am on 11/2, so it works out perfect!!! :bananamac

http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/news_2042 << says 11/2
http://www.myspace.com/smashingpumpkins << says 11/2

This also means we now get to see EITS!!! :rock_on:

Explosions In The Sky = opening band.

The drive from Dallas to Austin is 3 hours; if it takes you 4.5, you either drive extremely slow or make too many stops along the way.

Richardson is way north of Dallas lol. Austin downtown to Dallas downtown is 3 hours.

The drive to Grand Prairie should be even shorter...

Oh yeah, I know what you mean. But with the big cities, it makes a big difference - for instance it's 2.25 hours to my parent's house in Houston - and 3.5 to some of my friends' houses in Houston (from my Austin apartment). Those cities are HUGE!

i really wish i could, but i can't miss work (which is stupid really if you think about it...what do i DO here beside posting on netphoria all day, lol). There's a rule here that you can't take days of from nov - march because those are our busiest months :( I was freaking out about the dallas show at first until i realized it was a saturday. Also, I don't like driving in big cities i'm not familiar with, which *******s both dallas and austin...i have a friend going with me who's driving, and i'm not sure he'd be able to take the extra day off either. Oh, and then there's the issue of being broke because i just spent an assload of $$ on a new macbook, midi controller, and recording software.... so yeah, looks like dallas is going to be the only show i see. Which, by the way, really bums me out. I remember the days of the infinite sadness tour where i was traveling around, following the band like a groupie, haha...those where some good times.

damn you must drive fast or use some alternate path.... for me it takes around 3 hours to from the round rock area (just north of atx) to the southern tip of dallas, but it takes like 30 minutes from round rock to south austin and probably around 45 minutes from richardson to just south of dallas depending on what time of day it is and how bad traffic is. maybe i just get stuck in traffic longer in atx and dallas. its around 210 miles, so traffic has got to be it!

well I already have a pit ticket for the dallas show, but i don't know anyone in dallas and would be going to the concert alone, which is ok per-say but going to a show without someone else to hang with before etc kinda sucks - so i am really on the fence about it.

It is a phenomenal venue. I absolutely love it.

I would be surprised if they fit 4,500 people in there though! I always remember it to be a relatively small venue.

Especially because the Woodlands show is 17,000 and the Dallas show is like 6,000.

I am from austin, live in dallas. going to both shows.

Let me tell You about Austin ... it's the live music capitol of the world. People in Austin don't show up to concerts until at least 10 pm. That's just how we roll. If you show up early you will be the only person sitting in line and people will look at you like you're from out of town and batshit insane. ; p

But, seriously, all joking aside ... you should check out the restaurants and stuff austin has to offer downtown. Don't worry about getting the show early, people will not be lining up, I promise.

As for me, i will be driving to Austin Thursday night, getting new contacts friday, going to the show with about 10 friends, then driving to dallas with a friend to see them there as well.

this is my realistic dream setlist for Friday:

WBFTT
Superchrist
Doomsday clock
Home
Drown
>Hummer
Starla
Ava Adore

Acoustic - 1979
Acoustic - Perfect
Acoustic - To Sheila

Pomp and Circumstance
SIYL
Thats The Way
Bring the Light

Encore 1
Muzzle
Cherub Rock

Encore 2
Let Me Give the World To You

They have normally been playing roughly 5 Zeitgeist songs, so I threw in the ones I would like to hear (Superchrist and US can be interchangeable since they are the same song) plenty of singles, not really obscure songs that haven't been played lately. I doubt this setlist would be played, but that's what I would like to hear.

SlingeroGuitaro

I have always loved Home, I don't know how I feel about the new intro, but am really glad that they have been playing it this tour... For me its Home, Hummer and Drown - I would be happy with those 3

Gossamer would be cool to end with, but its sooo long (if they play the usual 30 minute version) that would prolly cut out alot of songs since they have only been playing roughly 2 hour shows post summer.

SlingeroGuitaro

i'm not so worried about it getting canceled or rescheduled (even though it is my birthday :( ). I am more worried about Jimmys future. if this is even slightly severe, he has got to think about his family- wife, and 2 kids. if he is having a problem by playing as hard as he does every night along with the troubles of traveling, i don't know how long this could last.

Nice to hear that someone actually cares about Jimmy the person, as opposed to Jimmy the breathing drum machine. I'll be disappointed too, but the man is a mere mortal. I went through the same thing when U2 had to cancel their Hawaii show in April 2005 after The Edge's daughter fell ill. I would rather have to wait a few weeks for him to get better than watch the man die onstage trying to please the fans.

it's going to be interesting to see if they can reschedule the austin show, and where. this was the last show of the season at the backyard, and i'm not sure they would open it up for a show in the middle of november. the music hall still isnt finished, and the tori amos show that was scheduled to play there at the end of november was moved to san antonio because of the construction.

UPDATE (Somewhat Major):

There may be some issues with The Backyard as a venue. Its a seasonal venue (always has been) and apparently this was meant to be the last show of the year. Thus the delay in announcement. Direct Events is getting shit in order to see if they can even hold an event past this week (city related shit and all that). In the event they can't they're working on refund scenarios and what not.

I dont know the pumpkins managements side I'm simply informed on the venues side.

Yeah... direct events doesnt have as deep of pockets as Nokias operators/promoters do. This is a huge deal for them. They want to resecure them as an act, or at least break even on the advertising they spent as they pushed quite a few radio/paper adverts on this.

well, i'm happy for the rest of you who can go....and i'm happy for jimmy who seems to be ok for the long-term...but alas i can no longer make this Austin show.

the only reason i was doing both was the proximity with the dallas show. 5 days apart, and on a tues just won't work for me. i'm lucky i can even fly back for Dallas.

so i'm going to call gettix for refund on these, but still go to dallas. i'm actually still flying to texas this weekend because the cost of rescheduling my flight is within $50 of takign a 2nd trip, so i'll just visit my friend twice.

PkPhuoko

From my follow up, the city is to blame for the date. it was too short of notice for them to get everything in order for a weekend show (apparently austin is strict on everything) and rather than lose the concert all together they opted to do a weekday show. Different permits and such needed for outdoor shows. Kinda sucks

On a side note he said the pumpkins camp was overly cooperative and apologetic.

i get that feeling too. i was going to take a friend, and when he heard it was rescheduled he decided not to go... mainly because it is on a weeknight.

weeknight concerts suck in austin. APD is even more obnoxious with the sound ordinance.

i also havent seen this thing advertised much, other than on 101x, but even the barack obama rally at the backyard gets more airtime than this concert does.

There are only two. Oh, semantics.

I knew of 2, but didn't know if there were more. I never bothered trying to even learn more about them, Vieuphoria was enough for me

I don't know what's funnier -- if they play that Frogs song, or the HMMs where Billy has said something like "You didn't think we were coming back / We needed a little cash"

Disarm was not played with Jimmy Frog. Check http://www.hipstersunited.com/ for the update. I just spoke to Andrew and it's confusing. He hopes there is video because we certainly pulled a nice Schoeps recording. :)

what did the srv song wind up being?

Strangely, that did not come up in the conversation, given the mundane sequence of events that followed.

... Gee, you would've thought he'd mentioned that Stevie Ray Vaughan tease somewhere between "Billy on bass," "Jimmy Frog in a sports coat," and "crazy jazz jamming."

Sheesh, I'll have to find out later. ;)
