Is there some kinda joke I'm missing?

If you listen to all the new live shows, he keeps missing the first syllable of a few words, particularly the first line to a new verse or the song entirely. For example, Today is now sung like this:

# Ooday is the reatest, ay I've ever own #

or GatGC:

# Oo the centre of the earth, or anywhere Od decides. Ull of ever ulling orth, ee hear our all... etc.

It just sounds silly!

I noticed it too last night a couple times. Could be sinuses?

It didn't matter much, plenty of consonants from the guitar + drums.

it was really noticable last night, but never all the way through a song just here and there he'd drop syllables

I'm glad someone else noticed it! It's doing me head in, I like PRONUNCIATION in my vocals please!

I mean, imagine Barry White:

"Ey abay, ink we got a iddle umthin oin own".

He would never have been the king of smooth then would he?

its way more noticeable now than it used to be, but hes always done it. cherub rock "oooo wants ahney" i think its just easier for him to sing that way without straining his voice.

the opening line of today at the show i attended was jarring actually. i sort of got used to it, but it is kind of odd the way he's doing this. maybe some kind of bizarre technique. whatever, he should quit doing it. also, his softer vocals sound gravelly, noticeable on the acoustic 1979, like he's singing in a lower register. on the whole though his live singing is impressive so i guess he knows what he's doing.

even though its different, i think hes hitting more notes and singing more solidly through all the songs than ever before

would it really put that much strain on his voice to pronounce the word "stars"? "we ah staz" just sounds bad, and that's how he's been singing it. it was distracting. i definitely noticed him dropping syllables throughout the performances.

his voice sounds awesome, it's just the way he's been singing the words that's off.

the "hhh" sound is a harsh thing on your throat if you're doing it 3 hours a night plus 4 hours rehearsals every day...

however, it also happens on other consonants, so its not just that. there seems to be no method or pattern to it... the best i can think of is he's changing the way he sings to not send plosives into the mics or something.

whoever said he's more in tune is correct though.

I've been thinking exactly the same thing....

maybe it's easier on his voice too because certain sounds take more out of your voice so to sing more shows maybe he's accenting the harder letters less. it might save energy. or it may just be a new singing style

which is funny because he used to OVER pronounce his r's. anyone ever notice that?

Very well said my man.

Anyway, it does sound silly as some have agreed, but generally his voice does seem to have improved. Can't say Billy's voice has ever struck me as excellent mind or as my favourite part of the Pumpkins.

My fav voice of all time - sonically mind - is Stephen Brodsky's a la Cave In. OK in terms of range etc, but it's just so pleasing to listen to.

Someone post an example clip. I think people must be exaggerating.
