Are Two Gallants actually any good? I've been curious about this for a while now, after the repeated mentioning of them on this board. But I kind of just figured they were some terrible band that everyone likes to mock.

the preorder came in the mail today, sweet. this album's a little tough for me to get super excited about because there were only 3 songs that hadn't been performed live before.

The Deader has been played for a little while, known as "So Far Away"
Miss Meri was completely new
The Hand That Held Me Down has been played live since last year
The Trembling Of The Rose has been played live for over a year
Reflections of the Marionette has been played live for several years
Ribbons Round My Tongue has been played for a little while, known as "Emo Country Song"

I really like the album overall, Fly Low Carrion Crow is probably my favorite right now. It would be Despite What You've Been Told, had they not made that song available for download about a month ago

they just announced they'll be doing two shows here in late october, im going to try my damndest to get to both. i skipped the last two shows, one was opening for les claypool ($40), and one was this festival (like $60). most times i've seen them play, it's always under an hour. they don't play for that long, but it's always awesome. i'm realizing i've seen them 6 times, that's the mosti 've seen any one band.

So I order the tickets and immediately after, my sisters boyfriend called and said that he's going to be in maine that day and all weekend... grrrrr

well i've listened to it about 3 times... it's really good. I miss the energy from What the toll tells but the songs are all incredible anyway. I can't wait to know these lyrics inside and out. he's such an amazing songwriter.

yeah i'm with you. my 3 gripes: some of the songs lack the intensity of their live versions, no epics like previous albums, my own fault for listening to too many of the songs before hearing the album. i really like it, i'm liking it more iwht each listen, and i agree with you, the songwriting is the best part

just once. i went to this weird fundraiser held at some warehouse near the docks in oakland, it was for prisoners who wanted to learn art. the 2Gs agreed to play a few songs for it, and the rest of the bands were like these shitty highschool bands. so we were leaving after we learned how bad the other bands were and i saw adam and tyson packing up their van. i went over to say that it was a really enjoyable show and to tell him how much i like/appreciate the music. it was pretty awesome, he said thanks, and we chatted for a little bit. i remember he asked me what my name was, i thought that was nice. i left pretty quickly, i felt like i was going to say something dumb. i should have just relaxed more.

The doors were at 8, I was right there to invite them for a beer and chat with the chaps before they go on stage and the first thing I see is a sign 'Two Gallants are not playing tonight'. Apparently their car broke down and they could not make it. They said they might arrange another show and they will let me know.

Video was ok.

It took me a while to get into this but I am once again fully addicted to another Two Gallants CD. The maturity they show on this album is outstanding and Adam has grown up and become a great song writer (although what bitch pissed him off to make it such a 'breakup CD?'). As much as I like this (and Scenery of Farewell) I like What the Tolls Tell a bit more because of the two epics (Waves of grain and age of assassins). They should have made My Baby's Gone into an epic jam but it seems like they held back. Good stuff though.

and I'm pissed I missed them when they were in NYC last week. Stupid work.

tonight's show was awesome. they played waves of grain. i love that one. they played for like a hour and a half almost, that's pretty long for them. adam's mom was standing near me towards the end of the show. they're playing another one tomorrow!

i've seen clips of videos where it looks like they're playing a tiny show in someone's basement or something, standing on the floor with the audience, and they've said they really like those shows a lot..

Last time they played dublin 40 - 50 people showed up,this time round about 250 showed up. Tyler didn't make it for the start of the irish tour, apparently he wrote poetry on his passport and they wouldn't let him through at passport control in america.

I wasnt at the Galway gig but it was acoustic and apparently the crowd were cunt bags talking through out. The dublin crowd were full of hipster fucks who acted like dicks GOD aint been more irritated by people in my life. Mofos kept moving up to the front 3/4 way through the gig. If it was due to getting drink i'd understand but no!

They play a short set in Cardiff Wales next week,if i can blag a pass or guestlist i'll go otherwise cant do it cos it's part of a festival too dear!

They play bristol next sunday which is nearby but cant make it due to last train home being 1040 :(

J - I got guestlist tickets for their show in Vienna. What should I expect only knowing [and loving] their albums?

awesome. each time i've seen them, they mentioned how it was nice to be home finally. so i've got no idea what they're like when they're on the road.. if they're not too different, then it'll be awesome. intense, passionate, skilled. not very much talk on stage at all. i've read fans saying they've been very willing to talk to fans after the shows and stuff. so i'm sure you'll have a great time! :)

oh, setlist wise, they've been covering each of the albums lately. the deader and despite what you've been told and the hand that held me down from the new one mostly. older songs have included two days short tomorrow, drive my car, my madonna, nothing to you. from what the toll tells, they've been doing steady rollin, long summer day, las cruces jail.. they've been doing a pretty cool skip james cover.. sets generally aren't very long though, about an hour? every few shows they throw in something off the beaten path it seems, fly low carrion crow they played when i saw them.. waves of grain.. they always do an encore in sf, but i've read that's not always the case on the road.

They played 110 minutes last night - and I'm still blown away. It was the single most amazing thing I've seen being performed on stage. They did a ten minute version of Fly Low, Carrion Crow with Tyson on backing acoustic guitar. The crowd went apeshit so many times, and they played Crow Jane and Las Crusces Jail as the encores.

I saw Two Gallants open for Pleasant Grove and Baptist Generals a few years back at the Parish in Austin. There were maybe 30 of us there. The Two Gallants were begging people for a place to crash for the night from the stage. I actually was going to let them but it was a work night and I had to be up at 7am. Didn't want some strangers in my house after I left, lol.
