last year day one flaming lips only played for 20 minutes because of the curfew, day 2 massive attack didn't show and got replaced by broken social scene... total bullshit. to be fair, we knew massive attack was not coming like a week in advance and had the choice to return the tickets. strokes and massive attack on the same bill would have been the greatest, i feel sad every time i think about it...

*** to the OLD hmm. It was actually a song instead of some drop C jam with a mixture of lines from different songs. Hopefully for the US tour they will go back to the old version.. and add E Gaze and Ode to No One (2007 version where he yells out the AN- VIL HANDS!!! part) :) :)

While HMM was a decent live song in 2000, it only got better as they jammed it out. The 2007 version is miles better IMO.

I had VIP access for pretty much everything today, hung around the Louder Lounge for most of the time which was the area to the left of the stage that had the small platform. I later got to meet Billy Corgan and company for a few minutes while they were waiting for the Killers to finish up. More on that tomorrow though I'm pretty tired so I'm going to get some sleep now.

just got home from the show, it was bloody awesome, mmm glass and the ghost children with super long organ solo by Lisa was great.

Ginger was really rocking out especially the heavier songs. Superchrist live was unbelievable.

Hummer electric was great

they reworked HMM again was a fair bit different from other boots ive heard.

by starlight into to sheila was pretty sweet

must add Lisa was fucking hot, she was wearing almost see through silk pants that almost looked like a dress.

Also think it was the quietest Pumpkins show i've been to, volume-wise but the sound was very clear, didnt need earplugs right in front of the speakers.

could have done with out seeing the Killers but Metric was alright and Blond Readhead was impressive

People that constantly repeat themselves bore me, pale_princess is probably the worst example I've encountered so far. Wouldn't wanna be friends with someone like that, but that's just me.

it was excellent, much better than i expected however the new songs obviously didn't hold up nearly as well as the old stuff imo. I don't care for HMM but in this instance i enjoyed it. about 1000 times better than his solo stuff i last saw. and i agree about the sound seeming very clear, i was right in the middle fairly close to the stage. I hate that everyone where i was didn't seem to know/care about Hummer as they were all talking on their cell phones.

Also, as an aside, going home off the island was a fucking nightmare, i had to run as fast as i could to catch the last train of the evening and barely made it.

United States was the perfect opener. I thought it was pretty awesome when the mangled notes of star spangled banner morphed into O Canada.

I was about 20 people back from Ginger's side of the stage, but my friends were getting crushed so we moved to about 20 feet behind the person waving the SP flag.

I saw a "Billy play spiteface" text message. Nice.

I thought Superchrist was a bit too similar to United States, but other than that it was a great set. Very satisfying after a seven year wait, even though I had to walk away from the stage area before the end of the set to try to get on the ferry and catch the last bus.

They probably could have played longer but all music has to cut off at 11:00pm due to curfew laws. That's why sometimes its bad to be the last band playing because if things are behind schedule then you get screwed over on time even if you are the main act, this happened before once I remember at the old Molson Park in Barrie when Tool's set got cut off prematurely.

Apparently they had Muzzle on the setlist for a second encore, but due to time constraints, didnt do it... :(

THE SHOW WAS AMAZING! Waiting the whole summer for it left me wanting more though! It took me all afternoon to get there, but when the Pumpkins hit, I was being crushed against the guard rail - like I wanted to be!

Yeah it was kind of a plain setlist, but you can't ask much for a festival show... I was friggen in solace when they played Hummer! If there was one festival-worthy song I wanted to hear, it was this! HMM and G&TGC keep on getting more and more abstract, i like, i like very much!

Ginger was smoking hawt! It was pure giggles seeing Billy swat away mosquitos circling around his bald head!

I can't believe I survived last night. although a predictable setlist, it was still pretty awesome as the sound and teases were great and glad we got an encore. too bad we didn't get muzzle as well! I was about 3rd row, right side between billy and jeff, crowd was craziness and i was too short to really see anything and now i just discovered i have all these bruises! and to the guy infront/beside me before i left the front, pm me if you see this.

This was my first pumpkins show ever and Im so glad i went. I was never a big fan of United States (except the usual last 3 minutes). But when you got those decibals thumping through your body in a live atmosphere it changes everything. So tribal. What a kick ass show all around. I got to agree too hummer was incredible, same with tonight tonight the whole chorus being echoed out. HMM & G&TGC, i have never heard them like this before. wonderful flowy shit. Well I finally popped my cherry after 10 years of fandom.

was this show a TV broadcast anywhere? I only ask because they kept showing that MuchMusic VJ Douche on the TV screen (without any sound and everybody booed the shit out of him), so maybe it twas broadcast on MuchLoud or something.

Also, I had some strung out crackhead douche yelling "1979!!!!" in my ear for about 5 minutes straight durring By Starlight/To Shelia. I almost with they hadn't played it.

Hummer was amazing.

To sum it up I really liked bits of the show but it sort of turned into a gay metalfest towards the end constantly reprising the United States riff and usual ranting gone overboard with so many songs stretching into boring metal jams.

30 minutes of the set was devoted to alternate versions of stinkers "Heavy Metal Machine", "G+TGC", and of course the usual "United States"

To Shiela was really good, I'm not sure why he didn't play 1979 with the band or a loop or anything...kind of disappointing.

'Today' at the end was obviously a rushed closer due to the 11pm curfew on toronto island, and the crowd up front didn't seem to be roaring for an encore or anything.

i agree with the metalfest at the end :S but i was stoned. starla should have replaced some of those jams.

Dunno, for me the extended/reworking of songs is what probably keeps me a fan and separates them from the rest and the reason i really enjoyed seeing them for the 6th time.

I think to satisfy everyone they should just play a 10 hour set :P but then people would complain the show was too long ...

yeah, for better or for worse i usually enjoy variations on songs or jamming them out. even if it causes the song to suffer, oh well. i have the album. playing a song verbatim doesn't really interest me.

I thought Hummer was really really good. It was hilarious when the MuchMusic guy got booed- and the people behind me were really cool talking to us. By Starlight and To Sheila were cool, too. I didn't really enjoy that version of HMM, and I agree Superchrist sounded like a United States reprise. I honestly would have preferred to have heard less new songs, even though I like them better live. I was also really physically tired by the end. It would have been a lot better with Starla and Muzzle. Shout out to hereisnowhy and skradgee for the tickets. Thanks for the recording, too, cabbage.

For the festival in general, I had a good time. In what might be the worst luck ever the hotel my friends had booked only allowed for 2 people and when they saw we had four they tried to make us buy another room, so we had to go somewhere else and we had to miss M.I.A. which was horrible. But otherwise and all things aside, I really liked Voxtrot. Bjork I thought was really good, with the atmosphere and staging of her performance. I was disappointed with Metric because I saw them before and it was amazing, the setlist here was lacking. Explosions in the Sky were so amazing - I loved it, especially because I could get so close on the left of the stage with plenty of space. Had we not had to wait in the ferry line for hours afterwards I would have thought the festival was a lot cooler, but I still had a good time. I was wearing an Islands shirt the first day and a Books shirt & hoodie the second so its possible some of you saw me. Sorry about the tl;dr, have a nice day.

I know that the setlist for this concert is comparable to most of their recent performances throughout the summer, but did anyone else who went to this (or any recent concerts) find that the overly long and differently arranged versions of Heavy Metal Machine and Gatgc really alienated most of the crowd?

Not to mention the bass totally washing out the guitars in Doomsday Clock. I mean, Hummer and To Sheila were really awesome, but I feel like it was a fairly bad setlist given that he knows he's playing to a festival crowd (i.e. knows siamese dream & mellon collie only).

And as a note to Toronto fans...I have never ever heard weaker crowd noise before an encore in my entire life.

I had VIP access for pretty much everything today, hung around the Louder Lounge for most of the time which was the area to the left of the stage that had the small platform. I later got to meet Billy Corgan and company for a few minutes while they were waiting for the Killers to finish up. More on that tomorrow though I'm pretty tired so I'm going to get some sleep now.

I liked the Killers, even though they don't mess with the songs that much, the lead singer, that Colonel Sanders looking motherfucker, seems enthusiastic and their songs are catchy. Freakin' "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine" and then "Hey Johnny" was my favourite moment.

Nah, they blow. I was on a blanket taking a nap at the beginning of their set and then gaffe taping my mics to my hat for the second part. I don't think it would have came out well anyways. The mix was atrocious. I guess their drummer only has a kick drum? I couldn't hear anything else. It was all vocals and keys.

Alcohol laws in Ontario suck!!! In Osheaga you could go get your beers and drink while watching the bands... No ID require, etc etc.... Vive le Quebec Libre!!

That's just the way Ontario is unfortunately, they are so hard ass with the alcohol laws. When you go to Quebec its like a night and day difference, they are just so much more relaxed about it.

you gotta set the ISO (shutter speed) to as fast as possible. it will make grain though.
