BOOooo.. seeing Gael Garcia Bernal and Billy would make my day. too bad. Skradgee 09-06-2007, 10:44 AM they will take a bullet train  anyone know a good place to meet up? Endar 09-06-2007, 11:00 AM how you getting there? lots of bars and restaurants right near the ferry terminal as too them hanging out around the city, never know Paris is here for the film fest ... Ugly 09-07-2007, 10:55 PM I'm there, I'll be where the beer is until Explosions In the Sky - Killers - Smashing Pumpkins. I'm 6'6, easy to spot, probably with a Ti-Cats hat just to rep steeltown deep in the heart of enemy territory. Also, I need to find a bar nearby ish for the early afternoon that shows sports so I can watch the Bills. Win, hopefully. I think there's a few bars down the road from the station. Professor Fox 09-08-2007, 01:03 AM i have something to look forward to :) You can also look forward to me slapping you like a bitch. Endar 09-08-2007, 10:37 AM kool Ugly 09-08-2007, 02:36 PM dunno if were allowed to leave the island then get back on the ferry with the same ticket, also not sure if theres sports bar on the island. havnt been there in 15 or 20 years Nah, I probably won't show up till late and instead busy my liver at a nearby sports-ish bar by the train station. Ugly 09-08-2007, 10:09 PM as of right now twn is saying it'll be done raining by 5 PM. I'm 5'1 and will probably be wearing the limited edition black SP shirt near the end of the night if not a white beater. probably doesn't help much. oh and i'll be with runnersdialzero who is like more than a ft taller. Andrew_Pakula 09-08-2007, 10:51 PM Not sure what time I will get there but I'll probably be hanging around the Bacardi tent most of the afternoon. cBgH 09-09-2007, 01:27 AM See you all there! ciGarski 09-09-2007, 02:59 AM Not sure what time I will get there but I'll probably be hanging around the Bacardi tent most of the afternoon. hope you brought donation money. you need to take out a bank loan to get drunk at v fest smashingluna 09-09-2007, 04:35 PM Hey. ChaosEffect 09-10-2007, 12:12 AM So you can text anything, and they post it, or do they censor some stuff? Examples would be nice. ciGarski 09-10-2007, 12:15 AM Im sure they censor it. but it wasn't too selective. shit like "kevin meet us at the bacardi tent" to "play starla" really anything you want ciGarski 09-10-2007, 12:16 AM i don't have any pics of it that i can recall. actually let me look. runnersdialzero 09-10-2007, 12:16 AM I think it's "On The Road Again" by "Canned Heat". I'm pretty sure BC sang something about crying, rain, and snow. i think yer right... i thought it was a greatful dead song but i could be wrong... its definitly not the willie nelson song of the same name... its the one that goes "On the road again (i'm on the roaaad again)... through the rain and snow (through the raaain and snow)" the setlist was predictable but they gave a great performance. highlight was for sure by starlight/to sheila medley ChaosEffect 09-10-2007, 12:19 AM i don't have any pics of it that i can recall. actually let me look. Oh thanks. ciGarski 09-10-2007, 12:19 AM http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g6/GNHunter/newyork07073.jpg i think it scrolled on that. but obviously no messages on there at that point. i think they killed it during performances and that was panic!'s set ChaosEffect 09-10-2007, 12:21 AM Eww you took a picture for Panic! ...Meh I've done worse. Ginger was really rocking out especially the heavier songs. Superchrist live was unbelievable. Hummer electric was great they reworked HMM again was a fair bit different from other boots ive heard. by starlight into to sheila was pretty sweet must add Lisa was fucking hot, she was wearing almost see through silk pants that almost looked like a dress. Also think it was the quietest Pumpkins show i've been to, volume-wise but the sound was very clear, didnt need earplugs right in front of the speakers. could have done with out seeing the Killers but Metric was alright and Blond Readhead was impressive redbull 09-10-2007, 01:05 AM awesome, thank you cabbage MonkeyMan 09-10-2007, 01:16 AM Thanks a ton, cabbage. smiling politely 09-10-2007, 01:22 AM Fuck people were crowdsurfing like it was 1994 during Hummer. I thought it was a great show though. My highlights were Superchrist for aforementioned unbelievableness, and Starz 'cause that's a fun song to jump along with. Lizziebel 09-10-2007, 02:35 AM bill's embarrassing himself Hey, I remember that time I used to hang out on message boards for bands I don't like. Oh wait, I never did that...I have a life! Why don't you get one too, my dear? Or some friends. Or some hobbies. I think it's seriously disturbing (and slightly amusing) that you have thousands of posts here on Netphoria--I have a particular distaste for Dave Matthews Band but I really couldn't be bothered to go and make thousands of posts over at his message board, if he even has one. Hell, the Smashing Pumpkins are my favorite band and I don't even post here. I hardly ever come on this message board because of the general douchebaggery that goes on here; I rarely participate, but you're just such a loser that I find I can't help myself. I'm sorry that you weren't popular in high school and resort to making over three posts a day to a message board for a band you dislike. I'm really excited to add you to my ignore list, which didn't exist until now. Congratulations! New Art Rioter 09-10-2007, 04:19 AM Yeah, the broken record routine is becoming grindingly annoying Pale Princess Interested to hear your story re meeting the band Andrew, did you tell them you run Netphoria? chris1979 09-10-2007, 06:03 AM Why don't you get one too, my dear? Or some friends. People that constantly repeat themselves bore me, pale_princess is probably the worst example I've encountered so far. Wouldn't wanna be friends with someone like that, but that's just me. alisonmonster 09-10-2007, 06:53 AM it was excellent, much better than i expected however the new songs obviously didn't hold up nearly as well as the old stuff imo. I don't care for HMM but in this instance i enjoyed it. about 1000 times better than his solo stuff i last saw. and i agree about the sound seeming very clear, i was right in the middle fairly close to the stage. I hate that everyone where i was didn't seem to know/care about Hummer as they were all talking on their cell phones. Also, as an aside, going home off the island was a fucking nightmare, i had to run as fast as i could to catch the last train of the evening and barely made it. palm0014 09-10-2007, 06:58 AM Doh! This is the setlist I wanted to see in Montreal the night before...*******s Starz and Zero! Ah well. It was still killer. hereisnowhy 09-10-2007, 10:12 AM Good show, bad transportation setup with the ferries. United States was the perfect opener. I thought it was pretty awesome when the mangled notes of star spangled banner morphed into O Canada. I was about 20 people back from Ginger's side of the stage, but my friends were getting crushed so we moved to about 20 feet behind the person waving the SP flag. I saw a "Billy play spiteface" text message. Nice. I thought Superchrist was a bit too similar to United States, but other than that it was a great set. Very satisfying after a seven year wait, even though I had to walk away from the stage area before the end of the set to try to get on the ferry and catch the last bus. Looking forward to Andrew's story... pale_princess 09-10-2007, 10:18 AM hailing a cab was a bitch after bjork. ciGarski 09-10-2007, 11:54 AM Yeah, the broken record routine is becoming grindingly annoying Pale Princess Interested to hear your story re meeting the band Andrew, did you tell them you run Netphoria? im curious as to how this interaction went down as well. T&T 09-10-2007, 12:17 PM Doh! This is the setlist I wanted to see in Montreal the night before...*******s Starz and Zero! Ah well. It was still killer. they did play for 10 mins longer then in mtl... I'm sure they would have played for 3hours if they could Andrew_Pakula 09-10-2007, 12:59 PM They probably could have played longer but all music has to cut off at 11:00pm due to curfew laws. That's why sometimes its bad to be the last band playing because if things are behind schedule then you get screwed over on time even if you are the main act, this happened before once I remember at the old Molson Park in Barrie when Tool's set got cut off prematurely. cBgH 09-10-2007, 01:07 PM Apparently they had Muzzle on the setlist for a second encore, but due to time constraints, didnt do it... :( "Fuck people were crowdsurfing like it was 1994 during Hummer." RE: People were mostly crowdsurfing last night cause the crowd was too crazy, they couldn't handle it, they wanted out. LOL THE SHOW WAS AMAZING! Waiting the whole summer for it left me wanting more though! It took me all afternoon to get there, but when the Pumpkins hit, I was being crushed against the guard rail - like I wanted to be! Yeah it was kind of a plain setlist, but you can't ask much for a festival show... I was friggen in solace when they played Hummer! If there was one festival-worthy song I wanted to hear, it was this! HMM and G&TGC keep on getting more and more abstract, i like, i like very much! Ginger was smoking hawt! It was pure giggles seeing Billy swat away mosquitos circling around his bald head! starlaluna 09-10-2007, 01:17 PM I can't believe I survived last night. although a predictable setlist, it was still pretty awesome as the sound and teases were great and glad we got an encore. too bad we didn't get muzzle as well! I was about 3rd row, right side between billy and jeff, crowd was craziness and i was too short to really see anything and now i just discovered i have all these bruises! and to the guy infront/beside me before i left the front, pm me if you see this. Andrew_Pakula 09-10-2007, 01:20 PM They did have Muzzle as the final song but I think they ran out of time, when I got to meet Billy backstage before the show I saw their setlist. smashingpumpkin 09-10-2007, 01:23 PM This was my first pumpkins show ever and Im so glad i went. I was never a big fan of United States (except the usual last 3 minutes). But when you got those decibals thumping through your body in a live atmosphere it changes everything. So tribal. What a kick ass show all around. I got to agree too hummer was incredible, same with tonight tonight the whole chorus being echoed out. HMM & G&TGC, i have never heard them like this before. wonderful flowy shit. Well I finally popped my cherry after 10 years of fandom. Ugly 09-10-2007, 01:28 PM was this show a TV broadcast anywhere? I only ask because they kept showing that MuchMusic VJ Douche on the TV screen (without any sound and everybody booed the shit out of him), so maybe it twas broadcast on MuchLoud or something. Ugly 09-10-2007, 01:29 PM Also, I had some strung out crackhead douche yelling "1979!!!!" in my ear for about 5 minutes straight durring By Starlight/To Shelia. I almost with they hadn't played it. That HMM was sick, fucking craziness. smashingpumpkin 09-10-2007, 01:45 PM yeah supposedly muchmusic was streaming it on their site and maybe even on air?? Anyways I'm reliving it on archive.org right now. Hopefully somebody recorded that video stream. edit: I swear that Vj was about cry like the 10th time we booed him hahaha. Ugly 09-10-2007, 01:52 PM Yah, the dispair on his face was kinda funny. Serves him right for getting in our way. Hummer was amazing. To sum it up I really liked bits of the show but it sort of turned into a gay metalfest towards the end constantly reprising the United States riff and usual ranting gone overboard with so many songs stretching into boring metal jams. 30 minutes of the set was devoted to alternate versions of stinkers "Heavy Metal Machine", "G+TGC", and of course the usual "United States" To Shiela was really good, I'm not sure why he didn't play 1979 with the band or a loop or anything...kind of disappointing. 'Today' at the end was obviously a rushed closer due to the 11pm curfew on toronto island, and the crowd up front didn't seem to be roaring for an encore or anything. any similar sentiments? smashingpumpkin 09-10-2007, 02:37 PM i agree with the metalfest at the end :S but i was stoned. starla should have replaced some of those jams. Ugly 09-10-2007, 02:43 PM http://blog.muchmusic.com/ says it was broadcast on MuchLoud last nite, and there are performance vids of v-fest on the main much music site, no SP vids yet, as far as I can tell (even though Billy's pic is plastered all over the site). smashing0 09-10-2007, 02:51 PM were those last posts merged from another thread or something or did they just not read the previous posts where we talk about it being on much loud and having the webcast up at zomb? smashingpumpkin 09-10-2007, 02:53 PM oh hehe. Dunno, for me the extended/reworking of songs is what probably keeps me a fan and separates them from the rest and the reason i really enjoyed seeing them for the 6th time. I think to satisfy everyone they should just play a 10 hour set :P but then people would complain the show was too long ... ciGarski 09-10-2007, 03:16 PM yeah, for better or for worse i usually enjoy variations on songs or jamming them out. even if it causes the song to suffer, oh well. i have the album. playing a song verbatim doesn't really interest me. It was hilarious when the MuchMusic guy got booed- and the people behind me were really cool talking to us. By Starlight and To Sheila were cool, too. I didn't really enjoy that version of HMM, and I agree Superchrist sounded like a United States reprise. I honestly would have preferred to have heard less new songs, even though I like them better live. I was also really physically tired by the end. It would have been a lot better with Starla and Muzzle. Shout out to hereisnowhy and skradgee for the tickets. Thanks for the recording, too, cabbage. For the festival in general, I had a good time. In what might be the worst luck ever the hotel my friends had booked only allowed for 2 people and when they saw we had four they tried to make us buy another room, so we had to go somewhere else and we had to miss M.I.A. which was horrible. But otherwise and all things aside, I really liked Voxtrot. Bjork I thought was really good, with the atmosphere and staging of her performance. I was disappointed with Metric because I saw them before and it was amazing, the setlist here was lacking. Explosions in the Sky were so amazing - I loved it, especially because I could get so close on the left of the stage with plenty of space. Had we not had to wait in the ferry line for hours afterwards I would have thought the festival was a lot cooler, but I still had a good time. I was wearing an Islands shirt the first day and a Books shirt & hoodie the second so its possible some of you saw me. Sorry about the tl;dr, have a nice day. if there is a llama 09-10-2007, 07:18 PM [QUOTE=cabbage]Download at the archive. http://www.archive.org/details/sp2007-09-09.AKGck93.cabbage.flac16 [QUOTE] Thanks a bunch cabbage! Rock On 09-10-2007, 07:32 PM I know that the setlist for this concert is comparable to most of their recent performances throughout the summer, but did anyone else who went to this (or any recent concerts) find that the overly long and differently arranged versions of Heavy Metal Machine and Gatgc really alienated most of the crowd? Not to mention the bass totally washing out the guitars in Doomsday Clock. I mean, Hummer and To Sheila were really awesome, but I feel like it was a fairly bad setlist given that he knows he's playing to a festival crowd (i.e. knows siamese dream & mellon collie only). And as a note to Toronto fans...I have never ever heard weaker crowd noise before an encore in my entire life. smiling politely 09-10-2007, 07:33 PM I saw a "Billy play spiteface" text message. Nice. I was on a blanket taking a nap at the beginning of their set and then gaffe taping my mics to my hat for the second part. I don't think it would have came out well anyways. The mix was atrocious. I guess their drummer only has a kick drum? I couldn't hear anything else. It was all vocals and keys. alejandrofarias 09-11-2007, 09:10 AM Yeah great concert! I was in both Osheaga (Saturday) and V-Fest (Sunday).... and I enjoyed V-Fest better... Alcohol laws in Ontario suck!!! In Osheaga you could go get your beers and drink while watching the bands... No ID require, etc etc.... Vive le Quebec Libre!! Another thing that sucked in Toronto was leaving the Island.... Will upload lots of videos and songs I took from both concerts later today.... Andrew_Pakula 09-11-2007, 09:25 AM Alcohol laws in Ontario suck!!! In Osheaga you could go get your beers and drink while watching the bands... No ID require, etc etc.... Vive le Quebec Libre!! That's just the way Ontario is unfortunately, they are so hard ass with the alcohol laws. When you go to Quebec its like a night and day difference, they are just so much more relaxed about it. hereisnowhy 09-11-2007, 09:46 AM hehe i wrote "play rat in a cage" it was up there just before the killers i think I saw that.
