So I'm driving the other day with my girlfriend and I let her listen to "Starz." When the song is over, I ask her what she thinks and she just kind of looks at me like she just ate a bowl of fresh dog shit or something, and says she didn't really like it.
Later, she trys to explain to me why she doesn't like Billy Corgan and the only explanation the girl can muster is just that "he's weird." So I start thinking to myself about how if Billy is weird then most SP fans are probably pretty weird too, and just don't really realize it. Or maybe they do.
Either way, it appears to me that if you're trying to impress the ladies, playing SP2 might not be the best idea.

Funny thread. The other day I was telling one of my friends that if someone walked in right when BC says "WE ARE STARZ"...I'd probably cringe in embarrassment. And he said it happened to him; this new girlfriend he has walked in during that song...apparently she gave him a weird look.

Billy's a normal 40-year old dude. Sometimes he says stupid shit in interviews and at concerts to try to be "hip and cool," so he comes off as a creep, he seems like a decent guy to me, except for the enormous ego.
Most people I know think teh Zeit is good, not great. I was talking to my buddy yesterday and he's been listening and he thinks it's a good safe comeback and that the next album will be experimental. Nobody I know has told me it sucks, most just say it's good to alright.

I wasn't looking for the "right answer" or trying to "impress" my girl. It's pretty obvious I was being sarcastic with the trying to impress the ladies comment. Who the hell would try to impress a woman by playing the SP's? I just wanted her to hear some of the new album and see her reaction.

Looks like you live in a heavily deluded world since you can't seem to escape hyperbole and inane drama. I'll try the exaggeration on for size. I simply suggested that when you get out of high school, maybe you won't see everything as so overwhelming and dramatic. Maybe you can listen to songs you like without stressing out for days. You know, this belief that what song someone wants to listen to has a "right" and "wrong" answer and it all revolves around "impressing the ladies" and "[your] dick" isn't very healthy. Isn't it classic too that you whine about what some girl thought of your song selection but then you're the one floundering and attempting to insult someone else's? Oh well, I got my girl (she likes Pomp too) and meanwhile you're left lonely and venting to Netphoria over your failure. Oops.

There was no stress for days, or even minutes, and I wasn't whining about anything. And once again I wasn't trying to impress anyone, I just wanted to let her hear a couple songs off the new album.

The Smashign Pumpkins remind me of Pink Floyd in that there are two kinds of fans. Those who dig only the popular stuff, and those that dig everything.
Just like there are people who only like Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and Siamese Dream, and cringe whenever I play Adore or Zeitgiest, there are Pink Floyd fans that love Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, and Wish You Were Here that cringe when I play Piper at the Gates of Dawn or A Saucerful of Secrets.
