Should be great about half way through NINs set as the sun sets. I've been loving Year Zero as it's a return to form (not quite The Fragile tho'). Personally althought I know that we're unlikely to get them I want Superchrist and 7 Shades. The new version of Shame would be awesome, but they can leave Today and Bullet for me - not interested (as great as they are),

Anyone?

I'm going..the set is likely to be pretty similar to the Virgin festival set they just played in the US probably..

Wouldn't mind a bit of Thru The Eyes of Ruby..would be great to hear that again.

I don't care what else they play as long as they finish with Gossamer.

yes, i will be there. it will be my first time seeing them live so even the somewhat overplayed hits will be welcome i guess.

not sure of exact song choice or order, but yea...it will be similar to the 2 hour 17-18 song sets they've been doing for fests.

not as good as 2hr 45min "solo" shows...nor 3hr residency/initial comeback shows....but its still going to be awesome, esepecially with NIN.

I won't be at leeds but i will be at reading.

I'll be at Reading, so far seems the Pumpkins will only be playing 1h30 or 1h45..hopefully they'll push to 2h but im pretty sure the bands have to stop at 11:30. Can't rememeber how long PJ played for last year, anyone? I hope they bring out something special to show how good they are esp next to NIN

EDIT: oh, and also, do you guys reckon they'll play the same setlist for Leeds and Reading? I remember they changed it round a bit for Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park, i think

Pearl Jam got 1h40m. I don't think the Pumpkins will get longer than 1h45m as they are strict with the noise curfew. I think they'll play 3-5 different songs based on their recent festival shows.

British TV will be covering the leeds/reading festivals from 7pm tomorrow, with a highlight package later on, but it looks like they will be focusing on razorlight instead of the pumpkins friday. best case scenario will be a couple of tracks (guess: bwbw and one of the other hit singles). i don't see them getting much coverage sunday either :(

I was there on a day ticket. They didn't play Muzzle, came on about 5 minutes late so I guess they didn't want to break the curfew. I did think that finishing with their alternate version of HMM was a bit of a weird choice. Glass and the Ghost... was probably the highlight for me, I need to get a copy of that!

All in all it was fucking outstanding, I don't know how the rest of the festival expects to be anywhere near as good as that. Good luck Razorlight! haha

Last night was fucking incredible..the sound was the best I'd ever heard the Pumpkins..even Heavy Metal Machine sounded brilliant.

Opened with United States..Billy really drew out the star spangled banner which caused alot of people to boo and alot of people left..alot of people also left during Glass and the Ghost Children and Heavy Metal Machine..to be honest, not that many people were watching and the ones who did come got bored of Billy pissing around, which I can understand as what they playing really didn't translate at a festival.

However, the sound was perfect, Billy seemed in a good mood and actually wore normal clothes for once..Disarm sounded incredible, especially when they hadn't played it in Glasgow. Reading is going to be another exceptional show which I need to try and get another ticket for as the person I went with thought the Pumpkins were brilliant. Think I was one of the few people that enjoyed it all though..it seemed Billy wanted to wind the crowd up by extending the star spangled banner..Oh well, that's Billy for you. Perfect sound though throughout and spoton vocals.

just got back. no big surprises as to the set list. hmm was a weird closer, but yeah the late start killed muzzle, which would have been awesome :(

the star spangled banner thing did nothing for me, but i was like 6-8 rows back and i heard no booing and i actually listened for it, as i thought it would happen! also the crowd was bigger and denser (!) than for NIN. i didn't see many people leaving, although maybe from the edges.

gatgc was cool to hear live and the ending is killer, but it still meanders somewhat, which is not good for a festival crowd and i would have preferred to have heard a couple of shorter tracks instead personally.

the sound: holy shit they were crushingly heavy. parts of US, superchrist and hmm especially i could feel the bass going through me. the set was hard-rocking. NIN were good, but the pumpkins seemed heavier, which surprised me. but it was clear too, billy's vocals were strong and he screamed a hell of a lot more than i was expecting; he appeared relaxed and in a really upbeat mood. jeff is clearly enjoying himself and he and bc have a nice dynamic onstage.

i agree, superchrist was full of energy. i'd only listened to it once before but it kicked ass. acoustic 1979 went down well from what i could see. tonight, to shiela and hummer were excellant.

in all i thought they were fucking awesome, despite them not playing many of my favourites, which was expected.

damn. i recorded the highlight thing on terrestrial and it was all reading (no shock). they had a guy there who gave a summary of leeds (i.e. what you can expect at reading on sun, which he actually mentioned lol). he gave props to billy talent, who seemed okay from where i was, having a beer on the periphery. and although he said he was sceptical about the pumpkins - from the perspective of an incomplete reunion - he said they obliterated the competition. or something like that.

edit: after the NIN set a guy and girl left and made some jibe about "oh here come billy corgan + friends, this isn't the smashing pumpkins" in loud voices and some american (or canadian!) guy passing them (wearing a zeigeist shirt, i think) goes "what the hell did you say?", which made me :)

Just got back from Leeds, Superchrist was the highlight for me, it's a real shame about Muzzle being cut. I was quite far back but got an awesome view of the stage. Bill mentioned something about getting a 'wee cup o'tea in merrie ol england' or something. I thought it was great esp his vocals, still think the nme ill hit on them in the review though.

I thought it was an odd festival setlist too really, so many big tunes left out. As a fan I was happy to hear less obvious material, but the average antendee probably doesn't feel the same.

They weren't that great, Glass+ghost children was poor, and I got the feeling Billy just wasn't enjoying himself. I also got that feeling in Glasgow too, like he couldn't really be ased with it all. Hopefully he will cheer up a bit at reading (yes i am seeing them 3 times in 5 days how insanely cool am i?) Actually people think im a complete loser going up to scotland and leeds to see them when i live within an hour of reading.

RenewRevive

i didn't get that impression at all. he just doesn't interact greatly with the crown, so can come off aloof and remote. certainly he seemed in to what they were doing. if i'd seen them a bunch of times then yeah, i may have been less fan-boyish with the post, but i feel i was judging them by higher standards than a regular attendee anyhow and still wasn't at all disappointed, although like i mentioned they should kick gatgc and maybe hmm and throw in some other stuff. just from material they've already performed this year, home, shame and untitled would have preferable, or starla if billy wanted to go with a guitar-fest.

he just doesn't interact greatly with the crown, so can come off aloof and remote. Yeah, there was some tension and a clear lack of communication between Billy and The Queen - I have noticed it, too.

i was just reading the set list for this show and couldn't help but laugh a little. if you look at it they pretty much made sure to play a song that people would know right after they played songs they didn't know.

Sorry to say to billy but G&TGC will never catch on, stop playing it at festivals at least. Even HMM might be too much for people.

RenewRevive

yes davin. i am a little hazy on the running order, though it appears correct. like spaldz said, they omitted muzzle as the encore, probably due to them starting the set a little late and with the sound curfew in effect.
