I got against the barrier after the guy infront pussied out and left his girlfriend to fend for herself during glass and the ghost children...Stuck it out with Kahlo up front..

There were quite alot of long songs played..Billy does go on abit sometimes..Superchrist was a great choice of opener..HMM was terrible though..and Silverfuck was possibly the loudest thing I'd ever heard.

Ha ha, yes indeed. It was good meeting you. I did think that superchrist was United States at first though...they sound very close at points.

If I'm honest the crowd was full of assholes. Some whiney dick asked me not to push him, and some stupid cow demanded she have 3 feet all around her and that I get out of her view. Little bitch.

Oh yes the show. I'm sure they played a short Blue Skies bring tears with Billy on guitar in a quickly strum way..although the more I think about it it was probably crying tree ha ha

ALOT of Booing, mostly in United States when Billy decided to play The whole of the Star Spangled Banner. Alot of people also got bored with some of the more drawn out tracks. Philistines.

Still the more people he puts off that are only here for the hits, the more I can feel l33t for knowing all the words.

Oh I can see that they were impatient at those times, but I do find it strange. I've been to a lot of shows....if people are impatient or don't like the gig they tend to be really quiet and not applaud. They don't waste energy booing.

The fact that they played hummer might of made it a good show. I am not surprised that nothing has changed yet.
Ginger was all over the place when playing? Like she didn't know how to play her part? I wonder if sp will let her go. Everytime I see her playing she looks so bored or out of place. Only during maybe 2 songs she looks active. Otherwise she is a robot

Oh and Lisa appears to of butchered her hair..she also played one of the songs standing next to Jeff with this weird synthy keyboard thing..Her piano playing was quite shocking on Death from Above as well.

actually billy just seems strangely drawn to not playing my favourite machina tracks (exception: siyl). with seeing them tomorrow (leeds) i've been staying away from listening to shows the last few weeks, but the new versions of hmm and gatgc have been getting some props on the board, so if they play them, so be it!

i saw someone i recognized from the london show but no idea who it was.

There was me, in the white tour shirt :) plus my other half (in black), a tall dark-haired girl (a SP fan on myspace) and an Irish guy with a beanie hat; all of us were in the queue early & all were in a line in the front row. Didn't see anyone else I recognised fom London though, the crowd seemed pretty different. The band didn't seem very enthusiastic, though the booing probably contributed to that. Towards the end Billy said something along the lines of "what, you want us to go home now? yeah, you all just want us to finish the show so you can go to the pub" - sort of joking and sort of not...

We stayed in a pub till the support band finished and came in just before the pumpkins started..was with Kahlo (who was wearing a rather awesome suit)..we were three from the front dead infront of Billy but during glass and the ghost children the guy on the barrier got pulled out and I managed to get against the barrier dead infront of Billy between two girls..only one person on the barrier got pulled out, so I was the guy who took the slot..I tried chatting to his girlfriend as he wasn't there but she was a bit non responsive!

Of course she enjoys, she's smiling all the time. The reason why she doesn't move a lot is because she's so tiny and her bass guitar is huge. Seriously. I bet that bass weighs more that she does, she looks like a fragile little elf. And the weight of her fake eyelashes must make it hard for her to keep her eyes open. I keep wondering how she manages to play 3 hours shows without collapsing, she must be in a great shape.

I nearly resorted to the timeless "Go eat a bag of dicks", this guy had no fucking clue. I thought he was a different gig, although i was amused he pronounced Iha - EyeHa.

I've decided to register an account in order to take credit for being that guy. I wouldn't have noticed had it not been for the bold print, so thank you for that. I'm not really going to deny I said all that, cos I more or less did.

Believe it or not, I am a Smashing Pumpkins fan - I may not be able to correctly pronounce James' surname correctly - but I do consider Gish, Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie to be some of my favourite albums.

The reason for my anguish over the gig was I expected more from a band that had reformed after a seven year absence. The main reason most people got into them was because of those amazing songs, particularly the ones from the Best Of - you know, the singles. I complained about only four songs from Rotton Apples (I stand corrected it was five), not the new album. I thought a band that had reformed after such a length of time should have reminded us all what we missed, rather than give us songs from albums that contributed to the bands break up - the massive hit Heavy Metal Machine notwithstanding.

The point is I paid a hell of a lotta money for this gig, through travel from the north of Scotland to the gig itself, and I left feeling slightly short changed and I may have drunkenly ranted my exasperation at that point. We're obviously fans for different reasons and we were looking for different things from the gig. I went for a good show and I don't feel the need to be possessive about the band or elitist about my knowledge of them.

However I am also disappointed to have missed out on your "go eat a bag of dicks" contribution. I understand that my tremendous physical presence is certainly off-putting.

Another classic in Muzzle woulda been in there also , probably if it hadnt been for the slightly flat crowd.

Its not like it was billed as a Pumpkins Play Rotten Apples gig like Sonic Youth are doing just now with daydream nation.
It was a band touring an album. The setlist was pretty well balanced. Myself i dont particularly love Shame or GATGC (however these coulda made a few folks nights) , but i loved the rendition of To Shiela & was over the moon they played Starla. Also the new Heavy Metal Machine was pretty good.

I am well versed in what they play - its just I think the order he played them in was just a bit off. The energy levels in the crowd were superb until the end of Bullet, then drifted off. I remember when he came on to play 1979, everyone got excited - then the crowd drifted off.

I suppose thats the problem with having a big band with such a wide range of songs disapearing for a while - so many people go to the gig for all these different styles. The Zwan fans I believe were even more disappointed.

Well that was fucking shite. I'm sorry but there are a number of things I'd like to complain about:

Firstly, the sound quality was DIRE. The bass was drowning out the guitars a lot of the time, really very poor set-up.

Secondly, I only enjoyed two/three songs - Hummer and Drown and perhaps 1979. I would have enjoyed Starla too perhaps if I wasn't thoroughly pissed off by that point. The new songs are just plain and boring. And whoever said HMM was good now is a fucking mongo.

Next, the jamming. It was boring. Billy needs to get that through his head, the songs were acceptable to listen to, but the jamming omg ffs shut the fuck up, or learn to jam in an interesting way.

I would also like to say that including Death From Above as an encore is just a fucking insult. That song is worse than bad.

My girlfriend went out about 25 minutes before the end for a cigarette and she said loads of people were leaving early saying it was shit. I reluctantly stayed to the end but couldn't wait to get out when it was over.

I'm going to keep going here because there's more. I really missed James. the new guy is not a bad guitarist but he doesn't have James' style. Same with the new bassist, she's a fucking midget and looks like a fraggle. And then there's Billy's singing. He's just not as connected with the songs as he used to be, lacking emotion, his singing too clean.

I went to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers the next day at Hampden and the difference was night and day. I'm not a big fan of their last album, but fucking hell they are amazing live. No wonder they can fill a football stadium when they put on a performance like that. Flea was quality all the way through, in fact they all were. Afterwards I thought back to the Pumpkins gig the night before and it was like I had been to see a pub band that night and then I had seen the professionals (Chilis).

Very sad way for me to say farewell to the Pumpkins but Billy has lost it completely imo.

As for their songs the started off well but fell into about a 7 or 8 song rut not coming back out of it til californication.
If someone had planned a setlist to kill the crowd stone dead this was it. Then if you wan to talk about crap jammin then look no further than the god awful 15 minutes of self indulgent wankery they gave us during the encore

I thought glasgow was fantastic. It's the first time I've seen them and from where I was (up on the balcony, fourth row centre) the sound was fine and they all looked really into it. You must be a bit weird if you enjoyed RHCP more than the pumpkins and you have 2000 posts on a pumpkins fansite.

A LOT better than the Carling Academy, believe me. I really don't like the Carling much at all for gigs. But this one was the worst I've been to there.

Anyone who thinks a gig at Hamden sounds good is a retard...it is horrendous, and while I agree that the sound at the Carlign wasn't great, it only faltered on HMM and GATGC, however apart from that it was loud, brutal, and I had a great time. I don't really care if you did or not, as all you do is piss all over the band. Also the comment about having a girlfriend made me begin to doubt your story.

I've said it before, but RHCP are one of the WORST bands I have ever seen... a lazy hit playing robot which could care less.. they remind of the UK Rock band Feeder...it was like the minute they hit the stage/record a record they are set to autopilot. Fuck them.

Well I much preferred them to the Pumpkins. The old Pumpkins were better, that that show on Wednesday night was awful. And the sound was shit for pretty much the entirety of the show not just for two songs. You claim it was loud and brutal. The bass was loud, too loud. There seems to be a lot of people who think loud is cool. Loudness for the sake of it is usually shit. I would not have said the Pumpkins sounded brutal, they just sounded like they were trying too hard to sound loud and bad-ass, and they royally fucked it up.

I was at Hampden Kahlo, you were not. The sound I heard there was far more enjoyable than at the shitty Carling. Of course at a big venue like Hampden it's going to be more significant where you are positioned. I was in a fairly good spot. I wouldnt be saying this though if I did not honestly think the sound was better, believe me it was, far better balanced.

I agree that loudness vs clarity was questionable at certain points in this gig. However HMM did benefit from the loudness... I also liked the nods to Emerson Lake & Palmer and jefferson airplane in the new arrangement.

Ginger (who has been great in Paris and Brussels when I saw her) came across as a bad bass player when she wasn't playing straightforward arrangements. I thinks she doesn't have the ability to jam. This is why SP NEED Les claypool.

i travelled up from kent to see the pumpkins gig at glasgow, and had a great time.. it wasnt as electric as the london show, but still great fun. ended up getting quite pissed, which is always good.

i then travelled down to reading for the sunday just to see pumpkins.. the rest of the line up sucked!!! (with the exception of nin and Turbo negro) it was all teeny bopper stuff like fall out boy, funeral for a friend etc.

billy almost lost the crowd with death from above... people behind me were starting to shout abuse.. the usual gay/bald shit... but appart from that is was a good set, and the sound was quality.

the merchandise was o.k. there was white, red and green zeitgeist europe tour shirts, flags and drifter hoodys. there were great quality bootleg shirts out on the road for a fiver.. :O)

cant wait for the next album and tour..

I went to the UK for 2 weeks on vacation. Visited Edinburgh, Glasgow, the Highlands, London, Birmingham, Bath, Stonehenge and Reading.

Among everything else....I got engaged, celebrated my birthday in the town I was born (Birmingham), and went to Reading Festival.

Basically the pumpkins gig was good, but the carling academy is an absolutely shit venue. I've never seen a gig there where the sound was good.

I'm glad someone agrees with me on that. I prefer the SECC to the Carling (and I know a lot of people complain about the SECC)

and SECC sounds alot better these days. Carling's sound is always shite, the long songs might have gone down better if you could make out what's being played.

i made a point in the Reading thread that i enjoyed some of the murmuring during these songs...because not only is it totally like old skool pumpkins to make the audience somewhat uncomfortable at times (which i think is awesome), but its also good to hear them play songs that are not easy-to-swallow. thats one of the reasons i fell in love with this band.

anyway, in regards to the boo-ing of the US anthem, if people had half a brain they would realize that the way he plays it, all sad and distorted like, is a commentary on the state of things and certainly not to honor the US. :rolleyes:

In Glasgow the sound was so shite, that I thought it was a buildup to US, after about 30 seconds I realised it wasn't. It isn't a great track.

Howdo everyone. Was my first Pumpkins gig and I thought it was excellent. Anyhoo, did anyone record it? I got a great recording of the first 20 minutes (most of the way through hummer) from the balcony, then somehow it switched itself off. Happy to share what I did get though if it is the only recording of the show?

For those who are interested, it was recorded in stereo using Panasonic W-61A mics with 9V power supply on minidisc (Sony MZR-500 in LP2 mode). Then transferred optically from Sony MDS-JE480 to PC and EQ'd in Soundforge 6.0.

It sounds pretty good, the crowd on the balcony were nice and quiet so even at the end of songs the applause sounds pretty distant. I don't know about everyone else, but the band were far too loud for my liking I couldn't actually hear it properly and was in physical pain by the last couple of song and my ears were ringing about a week later, though I did have the Foos the night before and the Chillis the night after. Anyway, what I'm getting at is that the mics picked it up really well and it sounds a lot better listening back than it actually did on the night.

Setlist is accurate apart from they left off muzzle as mentioned above. It's one of my mates favourite sp songs, it was his first sp gig and it was the ONLY pumpkins song he was dying to hear. He almost topped himself when I showed him the setlist.

Me too. What did you think? I thought that NIN were on form, but I was disappointed with a phoned-in greatest hits set from the foos, definitely the worst gig I've seen from them.

I liked the Foos I have to admit. I'm not a huge fan so a greatest hits set was exactly what I was after, I was quite far forward and fairly central so the sound was superb - shame I didn't take my recording gear. A much better gig than the Chillis, the sound there was horriffic (and quiet, or maybe I was deaf by this point) so it would be the one gig that I managed to record in full that week wouldn't it!?

shouldn't make a difference, since flac is lossless.
of course, if you prefer to do the tracking, then that's how it's going to be. (i just assumed you'd prefer not having to upload this show a second time.)

i have no experience with uploading shows to lma, so i don't know if you have the power to move a show yourself after you uploaded it, or if you need to contact someone to do it for you.
i can also not give you any decent info about adding shows to the smashing pumpkins collection.
