Anyone coming to Pukkelpop? I'll be there for three days, from August 16 until 18. The Pumpkins play on Friday 17, scheduled from 0:30 till 2:00 (at night).

any advice on the ins and outs of Pukkelpop ie any special items to bring etc?

I've never been to a foreign festival and packing will be stange considering I have to bring it on a plane. Irish festivals are either a washout or a sunburn fest.

I will check the weather forecast......

Cool As Ice Cream
08-10-2007, 04:52 AM
for pukkelpop:
- camping: no glass, no barbecue sets. they don't allow campfires and you have to keep the firelanes free. (booze has to come in cans or plastic bottles.)
- festival: no plastic bottles, no cans. you can bring drinks in cartons though. food is allowed too. (cartons and food are allowed on the camping too, of course.)
- you first need to get to the entrance of the festival with your ticket, to get your wristband. you need that to be allowed in the camping. (this is really useful info if there's a line at the camping entrance. ;))
- if you're coming from the train stop, the festival is on the right side of the road, the camping is on the left side.

at least, that's how it was the last years. i'm not responsible for changes...

weather forecast doesn't look too good right now: dry on thursday, probably rain on friday and saturday. i hope this will still change.

Yeah I fly into Brussels on Thurs and then it's straight to Pukkelpop. I'm heading on to Amsterdam as soon as the festival is over and then I go to Frankfurt for a day before flying back to Dublin on Wednesday night.

btw, martyr, with most pukkelpop tickets you can take buses and trains from anywhere in belgium to the festival (and back) for free. it depends how and where you bought it. to be sure if this also applies for your ticket, check out the website.

dinosaur jr are programmed right between arcade fire and smashing pumpkins, on another stage.

depending where you are at the front stage, i think it must be possible to make it to the marquee in ten minutes at most.

i'm also having troubles with this programmation. i really want to see dinosaur jr, but i don't want to miss anything from arcade fire and from sp. and i don't like rushing, losing whatever good spot i might have, and so on. so i'll probably just end up skipping dinosaur jr. :(

Excellent show last night. Very decent and varied set list. The band was in pretty good shape, good vocal performance by Billy but, for me, the definite star was Jimmy and his amazing drumming. He was on a roll, he really carried the band through the gig. Ginger and Jeff are as equally zero charasmatic as when I saw them 3 months ago.
Only thing Billy said was:
'We're from Peru' (euh yeah good one)
'We have a new album'
'Thanks, thanks for staying with us or something'

Also what was pretty funny during Tarantula:

The audience assumed the song had ended but actually it was just half completed. Billy gave the crowd a big frown and then continued. This guy has some attitude.

In the end, another monumental performance, imo. Although, I kind of got the impression the crowd wasn't really into it that much. With the hits everyone went along but from an objective point of view I think they played too many Zeitgeist songs and songs that take up 10-12min to really 'get to the crowd'. But I guess that's the difference between festival and indoor.

Highlights:

Bleeding The Orchid
Starla
Tonight Tonight

Too bad about Muzzle though :S

just got back from pukkelpop. amazing concert IMO.

i was just wondering where the song superchrist came from? is this a new song? a cover? first time being played? any info would be appreciated.

and i need to listen to glass and the ghostchildren again. they did a really weird version, musically totally different.... but probably really good though.

The crowd was really into it from where I was standing, which was between the stage and those fences. Everybody was really into all the classics, and even the 'new' zeitgeist songs got a fairly well response. Way better than Tool, where everybody was just standing there, even right in front of the stage.

All in all, a very good concert. I went to the Paris gig, so it was nice to hear songs that where later added to their repertoire like death from above, starla, heavy metal machine and superchrist. My only complaint is that they should've replaced glass and the ghost children with two more 'festivalfriendly' songs. Three 10+min songs for a festival is a little bit overkill imo.

....so... after coming back from my vacation of which was the highlight the Pukkelpop on friday, i have to say that the concert was really amazing, but it would be much better if the crowd would be more into it... and also billy could communicate more with the crowd... for the hardcore fans as me it was amazing, but i guess this show wasn´t very "festivalfriendly"... also no encores... but however... Starla, Superchrist, Death From Above... really rocking version of HMM... i really enjoyed the show.. but i wish they were more people like me.. /i am sure they were, but the crowd seemed overall a little bit quite to me .../

I agree completely; and I'd like to add that they could replace for instance 'Glass & Ghost' with 'Today', 'Disarm', 'Rocket' etc.

I think that would've excited the crowd a lot more, but ah well it's over now.

Pretty great show. I really enjoyed the festival. Hey Bram I saw your name carved into a toilet door just up the street from the festival.

NIN were amazing and Tool and Cornell were awesome too. I took around 400 photos so I'll pick out the best ones when I get back to Ireland on Wednesday and post them here.

I'm in Amsterdam at the moment. Pretty crazy city this.

Are the festival grounds located in Hasselt or Kiewit?
i did some "research" on this. the festival is in kiewit. but kiewit isn't a city on its own. it isn't even big enough to call it a village. in the administration, it is considered a part of hasselt. so, basically, kiewit is more precise, but hasselt isn't incorrect either.

also, the location that is mentioned everywhere, "kempische steenweg", is the name of the street that lies next to the festival grounds.
the festival grounds don't really have a name, since they're just pieces of land they rent from the local farmers. (during the rest of the year they're probably full of cows.) but i still think it's a bit weird to use the name of the street as location.
i thought i'd mention this because maybe you weren't aware of this.
