..Sucked... You guys didnt miss out on any good music i assure you. But it was worth it to see and hear from James. I talked to him... woot...
i asked him if he had a pen. he shruged his shoulders....
then i asked him, screaming over the blank theory music...
me: HEY, ARE YOU DOING ANY SOLO STUFF ANYTIME SOON?
James: YEAH
me: WHENS IT COMING OUT?
James: I DONT KNOW
me: THIS YEAR? NEXT YEAR?
James: I DONT KNOW

i so i finally got home from the show and here is my experience w/ no pictures (sorry guys):
cage 9, gifted, and blank theory:
hmm...wasnt interested. gifted, on the other hand, were the better of the 3 if i have to be a critic. turnout: reasonable...a lot of pumpkin fans. majority were for gifted.
james played 2 songs with blank theory...one of which was a cover of portishead's "sour times"...highlight of the show i suppose.
after the show, my friend meredith and i waited to see if james would come out. we turn around and behold, melissa auf de maur. nobody knew it was her...the no makeup look was deceiving but she signed the back of james' picture, turned it around to see who's pic it was, and replied "awww". we discussed the chelsea and her upcoming solo album and we talked about the past shows and she "says" she remembers who i am and all the bears i gave to the band back in the s+p tour. she gave me a lil massage!!! yes, melissa auf de maur gave me a massage on my left shoulder. its true. so hot! she just made it to the show and so she was asking "is THAT the band james played in?!" she went backstage to see james and she came back out and asked "did THEY just cover a portishead song?!" and we were like "yeah..sour times" and shes like "oh really?! weird" and told us that james would come out but he didnt. we got kicked out of the venue and waited outside with the rest of the people. melissa comes out again and says "james should be coming out pretty soon" and waves us a goodbye.
so we waited and waited...some guy hits on meredith and he used to work for the roxy so he tried to get us into the afterparty but the bouncer said it was strictly wristband. eh...at least he tried. so we waited again and everyone outside left. it was just meredith, kyle (spaceboye), and i. we talked to some people who were at the afterparty and they tried getting us in and tried getting james to come down sooner but no luck. meredith says "12 midnight and we are leaving" and all of a sudden, james comes walking down, heads over to us, and just talks to us for a good 8 minutes or so. he personally signed the same picture melissa signed w/ "To Robin James Iha"...he didnt remember where it was from (SF signing..thanks monet!) he then signs my Let it Come Down cd and that is for somebody *a-hem*. He signed Kyles guitar and his CD. He signed Meredith's neck cause thats all she had (so did melissa). Meredith was going to give james her scarf because he was cold but she couldnt un-tie it from her bag and i was like "james...its anna sui" and he did a double take. it was cute. He asked us what our names were and where we were from and i told him about myself and act 4 and the metro and he was supportive on that. So i call tessa and she didnt pick up her phone but james left a message on her voice mail (i hope you are going to record that onto something tessa because that one was for you!) He said "Yo tessa" and then i start talking and talking and then he takes the phone out of my hand and says "fo shizzle my nizzle used to dribble down in VA" or something like that. ps. ask tessa...she has it recorded. I asked why he didnt tour for Let it Come Down and he said "i am so busy writing" (i guess its for the new album coming out!) and kyle took our picture and he got into a car and left.
i have succeeded my goal tonight...it was certainly a good night...
james' wardrobe for you detailed people: white
l/s collared shirt, denim jeans, and checkered all star chucks.
thats it.

That's exactly why I didn't go over and talk to him. I dunno, it just didn't seem like an atmosphere to try and talk to him, which is all I'd really want. I've met him before, and going up and trying to talk to him over the loud band that was playing would probably just be futile.
It was funny to watch, though - when the curtain went up, he was standing center stage at the mic... and he introduced the band in a very James-like fashion. You know, complete with the awkward pauses and shyness... then he just walked off. ALL of Pumpkin fan geeks like me watched him walk off the stage, then just tracked him. They lost track of him, but due to my height, I watch him settle in the back corner to watch the show. I bet it was a funny thing to watch from the stage.
I debated heading over there and being the first fanboy to start tuggin' at his sleeve, but decided to not. There wouldn't be a point in it, really... I don't know. I don't regret going, even though I didn't get a chance to talk to him.
Hey, WhiteSpider... what do you look like? Maybe I saw you there.

anyway, i think it's great that everyone is showing interest in him. maybe he was kinda hurt by the reaction he got from let it come down, but meh... if we keep showing more interest, another album!

when he signed my let it come down, he told the guy right next to him "im not so happy with the artwork" (cover) and both of them quickly looked at each other and just shrugged. people think that james has turned fully into a producer/scratchie representative but i really think his instincts sway more to writing songs and doing his own solo thing. youd think billy wouldve put his own solo album out first but alas, it was james iha. brave man. i think the next album will be more cut through and perhaps even in depth than let it come down.
now really, doesnt let it come down just make you smile and happy? its james for gods sake!
