View Full Version : What is up with the Phoenix show 9/18??

Well I kept on checking smashingpumpkins.com for updated tour dates and the only thing they ever listed was the Tuscon show. Then I thought to go over to spfc.org and they had a Phoenix show listed on 9/18. Well obviously now I'm way late in the game seeing as how the tickets supposedly starting selling on 7/14. The thing is, I don't see pumpkins listed anywhere on the dogde theater website. They aren't listed anywhere on the ticketmaster website either. However, when I check online for tickets elsewhere I see them being sold for about 130 dollars.

The date still isn't listed on the pumpkins website. Spfc.org also does not list the show as being sold out. Is there anywhere I can find these for a decent price?

its funny because the san diego show for the next day is the same way...
ticketmaster initially said the venue changed...i dont know though. i just got back to san diego after a long drive to san fran, so i hope they come here. either way im considering tuscon

I've been checking for those, but only found the date confirmed on spfc, not in Dodge Theater website, nor sp.com, so... i don't know. I already got my tickets to Tucson, just in case.

They didn't play Gossamer. I got that from the comments from the Setlist on SP's o-site. So I guess everything but Gossamer was played.

Here is a quick review from a friend who has seen many a pumpkin show dating back to the early 90's:

Yes, I did go to SP. It was much better than the Tucson show, but not great compared to previous SP shows. It feels more like the Billy Corgan band than SP, you know?

They did play for a long time. Around 2 hours and 15 minutes. No gossamar. Bummer. Really good solo acoustic version of 33. The band caught a little steam towards the end of the show. Doomsday Clock, Cherub rock, and heavy metal machine were all pretty good.

The show would be really good for most bands, but just OK for the pumpkins. My chief complaint would be that is just wasn't loud enough. A pumkins show should be deafening! Too many songs from the new album (I counted 7) as well.

They seriously miss James, and Ginger, while cute is not up to par with Darcy or Melissa. Billy seems a bit workmanlike at times. More later.

I don't understand why people complain about this. Even if you don't like Zeitgeist that much, of course they're gonna play a lot from the new album. It's what they're trying to sell right now.

How long was the show total? From the looks of the setlist, I'm thinking 2 hours? Anyone who was there care to confirm?

I wasn't there, but going on the assumption that the official set would take about 3 hours, probably a bit under 2 and 1/2 since Gossamer was left out.

was d'arcy really all that bad a bassist?

I mean, really... can someone give me a youtube link of her screwing up? I know it's kinda accepted that she sucks, but I've never actually seen proof. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

Not to say she's a goddess on bass, but I've always thought she got the job done. Just like Ginger is doing... just like Melissa did...

It's not like SP bass lines are hard...

For me, I think it's more the way she interacts with the band in studio, if you watch some studio footage like 666 sessions... at least, that's where I get the impression she wasn't all that great.

But I agree, SP bass lines are easy, and still good. In my opinion SP bass lines don't need to be complex for BC's song structures. D'arcy played her part well ;)

D'arcy's the greatest Pumpkin bassist ever, I think. She's just so friggin' cool.

I love Melissa as a solo artist, and she added something really cool to Hole, and to be honest I think she was great as a Pumpkin. She didn't try to be D'arcy, she was just herself. But it was a different energy.

And Ginger is seriously growing on me, especially after that KROQ web stream thing. She was rockin' that night.

It was great seeing the Pumpkins again Tuesday night after that long 7 year hiatus. I hope they stick around for at least a couple more albums and tours this time around.

What was up with Dodge Theater security and their patdown searches? Didn't they know about the Pumpkins policy allowing cameras and audio/video taping? I did get a really nice audio recording of the show. But I was turned away my first time through the security checkpoint after the guy found the recording equipment in my pockets. I tried to explain to him the Pumpkins were allowing and encouraging recording and photography at all the shows, but he wasn't buying it. Either they weren't made aware of the policy, or they did know about it but overruled it. Anyway, after being turned away, I went to the nearest public restroom at a bar a couple blocks away and stuck the recording gear in a place they can't check during patdowns. Had no problem getting the equipment in the 2nd time through. I'm uploading the recording right now to the Live Music Archive. It'll take a few hours, so it should be ready for downloading/streaming in the morning. I'll start a new thread in the Music Trading section of this forum once it's ready.

This is a clip of the start of Home. I wanted to show to you people why i haven't released more footage because the sound is HORRIBLE. my camera records in AVC-HD which comes with the joys of an over sensitive mic that records in 5.1 Dolby Digital

SP certainly COULD be informing venues of their pro-taping stance, but I don't think they are doing it much if at all right now. Most jambands make it very clear that people will be taping, even using tall stands, and most venues are fine with it.

If I were planning to tape I'd probably print out the announcement from SP.com to support my case with security.

Before the Las Vegas show @ The Pearl, I emailed them about the taping policy, but it did not help much, since they turned away Monte's camera as "professional", and another person posted on here saying that he was videotaping from the back but had to stop briefly while security clarified it was OK.

Pretty cool fan interaction I thought... seems like a pretty good amount of people waited too. Billy looks akward, but think of the circumstances. Certainly looks more comfortable than earlier this year.
