Title says it all. Also wondering if anyone who taped the show last night (7/18) at the Fillmore are going to be putting their video to disc, as well as anyone who is taping the SC show.

I really don't have anything of interest to trade or whatever. Not sure what the unspoken rules/etiquette are, I'm new to the whole concert thing, only been to three shows in my 23 years.

Thanks and apologies in advance for my lack of knowledge.

yeah, everyone has the RIGHT, but does that make it right to scream at the top of your lungs between songs and yell the lyrics into the ears of the person right in front of you, or even chatter away when they play something new? There is something to be said for the quiet moments, especially acoustic. I guess what im getting at is: have a blast, but not at another's expense, its just obnoxious. Be respectful of others and the band you are lucky enough to see live in an intimate setting.

If you're on the fence for tonight b/c of scalper prices, don't think twice, as this should be a VERY easy ticket. Last night, the fillmore staff handed out tickets for free!

Well, ya, but I don't even mind the drunk screaming "Billy!" or "PLAY (insert fav song)". I get that, loosen up, let go, have fun!

It's just the drunk assholes, who boo, or heckle the band. Fuck them. People who have yelled out "D'arcy" with Melissa or Ginger there just to be assholes.

At the BC solo show, tons of people were booing him and screaming "Pumpkins", half of them were even sober I think. I remember at the Wiltern when Zwan played, some drunk was such an asshole Billy had him thrown out. He was ruining it for everyone.

I have a drink or two at shows, but I never get blasted, and I never heckle ANYONE... except the Gin Blossoms, they deserved it. I don't stumble into people, I don't spit when I talk, right onto someone's cheek none the less. I don't grope girls, I mind my own, enjoy the show, get excited, cheer, but never overdo it. Hell I even hunch down because I realize not everyone is 6'1".

Thats all I ask at a show.

Now, go off and enjoy tonight's show! Cheer on the War Tapes cos they're really great, chant endlessly for Billy when the band walks off stage, and someone yell "JIMMY!" once for me :)

^ There's no way I'd want to know what they're playing next. It's not that I'm holding my breath for Ruby every show and pissed off when each song that starts is NOT Ruby, but if I found out at the beginning that it was on the setlist, I probably would think about it more during the other songs, and of course, the surprise of the song suddenly starting would be ruined.

I just don't understand why peopled booed and yelled for pumpkins when they were there to see his solo show, it's not like they were tricked into thinking he was playing pumpkins songs, Billy made it perfectly clear that he wasn't going to do that; they knew exactly what they were going to go see, so why boo?

ICCULUS, are you serious, the Fillmore staff were just throwing out tickets for free last night? As I said in the Fillmore show post from last night, the excitement of this residency has really fizzled.

why would i lie? they were cognizant of the scalpers trolling about with paper tickets... those fans who refused to pay exorbitant amounts were handed tickets, my close friend who i danced with all night being one!

i haven't read the thread from last night, but wasn't expecting either the live 105 show or the show tonight to live up to the the first three. Different audience completely last night, entirely different vibe since it was a radio contest (although they did a different poster for the live 105 show).

i have had the opportunity to see many shows at the santa cruz civic and honestly, i am not a very big fan of the venue, not because of the lack of alcohol (i can go 3 hours without beer :), but because of the sound. i decided to skip tonight so I can rest my body and ears, although it is still an amazing opportunity to see them in a small venue for cheap or free (santa cruz was a buyers market :)

if you really want to see a show and don't want to pay more than face, just get down there early, and you'd be suprised how many opportunities there are!

I do believe it was posted earlier that they did. Someone asked Billy this after the Fillmore show on 7/18 and he turned around and asked a lady (the tour manager, whose name I forget). I think he said they were going to. Of course, someone who was AT the show tonight can answer

Still not sure why this show was added. My initial reaction was, "why are they putting this in the middle of the Fillmore residency?". But I guess the residency isn't exactly "sacred", and they had the opportunity to do another show for more fans in Santa Cruz, so they booked it.

But here's looking forward to the rest of the Fillmore run... I'm now considering returning on 7/28 instead of 7/30 if I can find a ticket :)

just got back from the concert. i met monte too, i told him i was a lurker since i dont post much, haha. he's a real cool guy, he even used up some of his precious battery supply to show me the funny circus intro that billy and band came out to on the 19 show.

war tapes impressed me, they dressed really well, i liked their animated guitarist, the bassit well she looked and played the part of death, and the lead singer has a real good stage presence and also managed to play tug of war with his mike a couple of times when it got stuck, the dudes got good aim too, cuz he managed to throw his cap from his water bottle about 6 rows deep and hit some kid in his head. also at the end of the set the drummers sticks flew in the crowd and the lead singer won the war with the mike by slamming it down to the ground.

pumpkins hella rocked, some interesting banter was when billy thanked the fans for the success of zeitgeist, mentioned they were #2 in america, #2 in japan, and #1 in canda. billy again said that there hasnt been any good music since they left 7 years ago, asked jeff for approval jeff nods yes, and billy thanked us for supporting them and joining their army. said someting about american idol and shit.

while on my way to the restroom i saw some old dude deeply sniffing some orchids, i thought that was weird until later i saw the same orchids being thrown on stage after bleeding the orchid.

billy was in a good mood, throwing picks at the audience, and acting goofy,

once as they were about to leave the stage, billy almost slipped and was about to use ginger to break his fall but he recovered and asked ginger if she was ok.

one cute moment after billy sang death from above was when he walked over to a lil girl who was being held up on her dad's shoulders, and she was holding a picture of some sorts, and billy came over and the girl handed him the picture, and billy smiled and put it down by the drums.

the crowd was real good, and packed, it was also really silent when it was just billy on the guitar.

the jam at the end of gossamer rocked everybodys socks off, it got so loud. billy was having a huge smile while playing with jimmy as they both fed off each other at the end of the gossamer jam.

billy came out by himself and went to each end of the stage and thanked all his fans. it was my first concert experience and i ended up having alot of fun. i cant wait until i get to see them again.

i'm still drunk & high from some party after the show....
but the personal highlights for me was: finally hearing this gossamer song (i like it, but i wouldn't stand during this song the next time) and witnessing 33 & rocket acoustic.

the personal low-points: getting elbowed in the face, getting a chick's leg and tits dropped on my head, and not having billy introduce the band (again)...

they were missing some lights. either they couldn't find a proper place to put them OR it got broken in transit.

ah......one more thing to add to the highlights: i finally managed to acquire something i wanted to get during the MCIS tour: billy's guitar pick (from gossamer song).

well.....my sp v2.0 trek comes to an end. 2 shows (costing me $200 bucks for 4 tickets, gas, parking, & food) totalling about 265 minutes of sp music. not too bad. and maybe i'll win a ticket and probably do it once again. that'll make up for missing adore and the machina tours. overall, i was happy. i'm not going to nitpick too much. i honestly (& surprisingly) got what i expected: a arena-like rock show with better corgan vocals.

thanks for all your help, info, kindness, & generosity on this board. i'll probably reply to postings again once in a while. i also look forward to monte's masterpiece once its done (definately something to cherish for time to come).

This was my fourth show out of the five in CA so far (I skipped 7/16), and this show has topped them all so far. The crowd was totally insane; completely different energy from the Fillmore shows. I usually hate obnoxious meathead concert-goers that shove their way to the front, act like shitbags, and only cheer for the hits, but the combined energy of these people lit up the room and the band. It also helped that the setlist was really tight and mostly free of jam songs (BSBT, GATGC, Silverfuck, etc); the quasi-fans stayed engaged the whole show (well, except for Gossamer of course). The end result was a much higher energy band feeding off the enthusiastic crowd. I'll be glad to see them again at the Fillmore and not have to deal with moshing and crowd surfing, but the Santa Cruz show was a nice one-off change of pace.

Went to the show last night at Santa Cruz. It was my first show.

Good show. The acoustics were pretty good, but I think it could have been a little better. I wish the guitar was a little louder during some of the earlier harder songs, like "Zero." That didn't seem to be a problem after when they went back to playing harder songs, after the slower song set. But I still wanted it to be a little louder during "Cherub Rock."

Good setlist.

Can someone tell me about this "Gossamer" song? Is it new? Is it on any CDs? I guess it was the song at the end? I'm not the most knowledgeable fan.

Can someone also redo the setlist in one post, and show where the encores were?

Thanks!

I like it when bands introduce themselves, was disappointed they didn't yesterday. But there was good banter.

gossamer is a new song, unreleased (no studio recording yet), yes it was the last 30 minute song..unclear if it was written with only JC/BC or with the full band (although maybe someone else knows).. probably only JC/BC, haha

I didn't know much about the new album, except for "Tarantula", and I thought that was just average.

But the other new songs were pretty good. I'm definitely going to give the album another look.

One last question. Do you know if there's a link which shows the discography of the new album, but also the length of time the tracks were supposed to be?

US > Orchid, in my experience, doesn't work. It loses the crowd. Why can't they just go US > Doomsday or US > Today?

I suppose the album is out now, maybe it'll be better...

I also agree that U.S. didn't work and was too long at the beginning.

Haha, nice. So at the Fillmore night #1 it was "thanks to the 7 people who bought Zeitgeist", and last night some real thanks? haha. He should've mentioned it was overall the #1 album in the world (I read this on the main SP discussion board). That was good to find out.

i think i've heard gossamer live too much.. I can't get it out of my head... "i dont wanna wanna die i dont wanna wanna die, i dont wanna wanna try, you dont even even try" i'm not even sure which of those he really says, I think I'm just making up other lyrics that rhyme in my own head.. ahhhh

speaking of songs without published lyrics.. has anyone made an attempt to transcribe lyrics for Gossamer or any of the new songs from Asheville? It would seem not incredibly difficult... SPFC just says "unavailable" for the lyrics for all those songs.. Gossamer doesn't even have that many lyrics right?

"two crows in 52 fields.. one crow says to the other crow, you seen my love? nah man, haven't seen her!" (*crow/billy shrugs*)

Drown was on The Singles Soundtrack and also on Greatest Hits.

I recorded all of last night's show including most of War Tapes (the audio is surprisingly decent) and managed to 'sneak' my introductory SLR in. Unfortunately the uptight security told me "Enough." during the first song. No worthwhile photos since some agitating hardcore kid (who shoved his way in front of us) kept hitting my camera with his God damn elbow. What got me was he had the nerve to look back at me as if I wasn't supposed to be there.

Anyhow, I'm assuming Windows Movie Maker is an alright program to edit my video into clips?

I actually wasn't planning on recording, but ended up trying it. My video isn't that great. If I wasn't holding it up with my right arm, it was with my left or being passed to my boyfriend to take over so I could rest a minute. It's pretty shaky.

I did a quick Google search and downloaded VirtualDub and the Deshaker plug-in thinking maybe that'll make things appear more stable.

But yeah, I'll upload some clips. More than willing to share with you.

Hay catharsis talked to you on youtube about the concert.

I do have very limited recordings of the show... but it is from my digital camera and to save on space on my SD card the recordings range from 3 seconds to about 2 min. But I had an amazing spot with no one in front of me next to the stage on the bleachers. I did capture every single song... even if it was 3 seconds. I was trying to figure out how to combine all of the clips into one long video, with minor intros to each song.

How can I do this, since I have no knowledge of video editing but I am very familiar with computers.

Thanks
