I believe a tougher question would be "are you hoarding something... and if so, why?"

A better one may be, "how many people are hoarding the same things you are?"

And there is no doubt in my mind that for some people out there, we are one of the threads they are hanging on to. And I think what we have to do as a band is to make those people aware of how we need them as much as they need us. To me, music is love, and I need it in my life just as much as they need it in theirs."

hehe... someone should set up some sort of anonymous thing where we could all say the things we're hoarding. Like, a guestbook-style page. I bet people would find out that some things aren't as rare as they think.

Personally, the only thing I'm hoarding is this forum... I ownz you all.

sorry but i never got an email from you. maybe it's my junk mail filters since i get a lot of shit in my email; but i usually check that stuff out just in case something goes in there that i want to read. email me back with "pumpkins trade" or something in the title so i know it's not junkmail.

i still don't know if i'll trade for pumpkins. i have TONS of pumpkins shows, most i haven't even listened to; but i have no APC shows and i really wanted to get one of those acoustic shows they did. that's all.

i always reply to anyone who asks me for a trade, even if it's to say no; and IMO i'm rarely a **** about it. sorry for the confusion.

I am hoarding a few things, lol. A couple pre-FM SBD's: a Foo Fighters acoustic show form 2000, Weezer Sonic Sesssions, ummm, 311 acoustic 2001, some other things...an SP show....I have a hookup at a radiostation I guess you could say. Oh, and I taped some local shows on my own that no one probably knows/cares about: Laguardia, Zen Guerilla, The Delta 72, Session, Ty Cobb, Dandelion, Tripp 66....ehh, a few goodies in there.

So, what's this thread about?

Define 'hoarding'.
I have a bootlist that is uhm, I think i may say, quite fair. But, I'm not trading anymore. So, am I hoarding the shows I have on there?
Or am I hoarding because there are some people that I'm still willing to extract&shn a show for? Or am I hoarding because some people gave me shows as a present, and I, valuing those presents, refuse to trade them?

Be blissed

I'd say hoarding (in this context) consists of:

1. An agreement b/w 2 or more people to
2. Intentionally prevent wide dissemination of
3. Music for which the parties gave little or no value.

Not saying it's a bad thing. I'm just saying...

The way I see it, there are two different types of hoarding.

1. someone (whether it's a friend or a trader) copies something for you and says "don't copy this for anyone". It's their decision that the bootleg will be hoarded, and you respect their decision.

2. you acquire something (whether it be by hard work or by luck) and decide to keep it until something equally rare comes along. In this case it's your decision that the bootleg will be hoarded.

Of course there are also other situations, but that's a general summary. I'm not trying to say that one is right and one is wrong, but whatever. I don't really know. I guess I was just trying to help answer the "define hoarding" thing. http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/smile.gif

Oh and if you have stuff that you are willing to trade but nobody is interested, then that's not hoarding. And if you have stuff that you would trade but you're no longer interested in trading, then that's not hoarding either. Or wait... maybe it is. Maybe that's like a third type of hoarding.

You mean the show that I'm distributing? So far as I know all that is available is the DAT which you have, the analog master copy I got from the taper, and the video. I'd love to find a better source...but the analog version doesn't sound all that bad. I'd probably maim for a soundboard version though.

If any of my masters will aid in obtaining them, they're at your disposal. My two Black Crowes masters have done me a lot of good obtaining clones of past +Live+ shows recently.

No, it's a different recording than yours or the DAT recording, and it's not sbd.

Ed Davis is pretty busy. I don't think he's really interested in hoarding stuff from the SP community as he just lacks the motivation to make me copies of things. While he has promised me on various occasions that he will trade me, it just seems as though he never has the time to. Once I get all my shows on cdr and I get all those leet things from you Andrew I will devote all my time to looking for "rare" things.

So I found a whack of uncirculated recordings from a dood who wants a whack of cash. Who wants in?

no no, not $1000....we are talking closer to $160 here.

I have but a few problems here though. First thing is from what I can see, this guy has some shows that aren't circulated, but I question the veracity of all the dates he has, because some just don't make sense. ie. 9/1/92 - Berlin, the loft. They played the same venue the nite after that and spfc makes no mention of this date, could this infact be 9/2/92? So if I do go through with this I'd hope i have enough ppl so no one drops a lotta cash, and so I don't get flammed from ppl telling me its a show they already have or some shit! I prolly won't open this to ppl I don't know b/c I just don't have the patience to deal with anyone if this, for some reason, doesn't go as planned.

I think it's interesting to at least have the piece of mind in knowing what these shows are, and one's a master so that can only be better than what we have. I won't post the dates here, but if you are really interested in spending...say $10, email me.
Pay Pal only, as I'd like to get this money and blank dats out to him asap.

Yes, but it certainly wouldn't be the first time that people got dates mixed up. So we would already have that show (assuming it's the 1.26.92 show). Is there other material that clearly is uncirculated? Either way, I'm certainly willing to take a risk and kick in a few bucks.

Exactly. There's a setting on AOLIM where you can only allow users on your buddies list to IM you. When someone not on the list IM's you, a screen pops up asking if you want to accept the message from "Joe Blow" or not. Most of the time I say no.

Yeah but there's some nice stuff on this list too...

1/14/97 - Sioux Falls, SD - DAT->ANA(?)... spfc only lists an ANA recording

1/25/97 - New Haven, CT - MD->ANA(1)... spfc only lists an ANA and a DAT. who knows, this might be good.

1/29/97 - St. College, PA, US - "2nd from DAT master A-"... spfc only lists an ANA

4/5/94 - Little Rock - "2nd from analog; *I will only trade copies of this for shows that I feel are rare*"... spfc has recording info but no known setlist... he has a setlist up on his page and rates the quality as a C.

If this guy really isn't into trading anymore then it would be tough to get him to copy stuff... maybe we should just offer him some $$ for a few of his tapes. If he doesn't trade anymore, then he might not care.

Okay, PJ took care of the others.

1/25/97 - I highly doubt it was MD. Was MD even out at this time? That's not the point. Of the shows you just listed, this is the only one worth getting.

from your bootlist:
08.31.94 Gorge George, WA CDR MD /AUD/2 080/07 MD>ANA2>CDR ECM-909a>MD

so yeah... md was around in 97. i think it's been around since 91/92 or so.. not quite as long as dat, but of course early md was bad.

9.1.92 was apparently a mislabeling of the 9.2.92 show. You don't really see it too much anymore. The interesting thing though is that I don't really know what the correct date really is. The people who had the show labeled 9.1.92 may have been right as there was a promo CD that surfaced recently that had that date on the back.

Any other dates of questionable veracity?
