this shit is getting ridiculous. are they just making random stipulations about taping? bill keeps saying "open taping", yet the guards keep saying something different. like the guy whose recording of United States got interrupted by security the other night--what the hell? :rolleyes:

it's a radio station show, right? it's not unheard of for them to broadcast recordings of a show or parts of it on sunday nights, etc.. they probably arranged for the show to take place and don't want anyone stealing their thunder..

These residences are getting fucking ridiculous. If yoiu're going to play the same set of songs then at least move around the country. What happened about that statement saying they will be taking risks, rehearsing hard in the mornings before the shows etc? The only risks I've seen are jumbling the song orders and adding in a few new tunes (nowhere near enough new tunes or the ones which would actually get people excited). Since the introduction of Transluscent/Starla nothing has really been 'special'. I say they've missed a great opportunity to showcase their talents as musicians and dip into the back catalogue. These residences have been a complete waste of time

Id love to ask them why the first shows were so...diverse, and then after 4 or 5 shows the setlists kinda hit a plateau. Maybe this was the concept all along...maybe they felt it better to avoid burning out? Or pointless to rehearse a bunch of stuff that would not really get played anyway?

I had some idiot girl kiss me on my check after she yelled SMASHING PUMPKINS! When she yelled into my mic during 1979 I looked up behind me to see what liqured up girl was behind me.
She then had the nerve to ask me to video tape her friend. I was like what the heck. I shook my head and never said a word to her. She left shortly after. Placing her check next to my check watching my video for 10 seconds.

Anyways. Odd show for real. The crowd blew as expected. No one cheered for screaming billy.

I had to say the show was disappointing because corgan was not very chatty other than an american idol refrence before today. But whatever. I found 2 video tapes in SD. We will see what we get

If they didn't print them all in advance, I guess it would be pretty easy for them to take the original design, insert 19, and then have them printed by whatever printing company does this (I assume that's what they did for tonight's show).

low point: un-needed encores leading to end the show an hour early (i bought my tix thru ticketmaster).

it was fun nevertheless......but its really odd seeing billy being on stage all by himself thanking the crowd and smiling. the gf said he was acting like a "diva".

looking forward to santa cruz. ain't got work tomorrow, but i sure dont feel like waiting in line early when i could be eating & drinking.

Crappy crowd indeed. Damn corporate sponsors and whatnot. So much chatter I had to keep moving to find a quiet spot. Emptier than the first show too, maybe 20% less than 7/15's crowd. Band was in a good mood, in general, it seemed. I couldn't see any symptoms of BC being stricken with the flu...

Looked around the floor for audio tapers, didn't see any tonight... One guy video taped the first few songs (up to Tarantula) from the right rear, then shut it down! Sad to say, I don't think we'll get much more audio out of this residency.

Christ, not that we needed any more evidence to prove it, but this show is just more proof that the excitement of these residencies has fizzled. I've rolled my eyes when I read of people in here complaining about the set lists not being varied enough, because I think some were really naive thinking these were goin' to be something like "Rarities and B-Sides" shows. The first four Asheville shows lived up to the billing, in my opinion, since that's when we were first hearing "the new songs" and Billy started playing TAFH & Ode To No One. But ever since the Friday 6/29 show in Asheville, all the songs played from previous albums and the new one have been the same, and Billy's only done, what, an additional 3 "new" songs at most?

I had been worried that San Fran was goin' to get better shows than Asheville since it's a big city venue. But so far, I have to say I'm glad I decided to go to Asheville (6/26 & 6/27 shows) instead of San Fran, the shows were great and I surely spent much less on travel expenses goin' to Asheville than I would have San Fran. Knowing what we know now, that the sets aren't that varied, you could say they overdid it with these residencies, I think five in Asheville and seven in San Fran would've been more appropriate. Who knows, though, all this complaining might be premature, being that there are still eight shows left. I just hope for the sake of all of you seeing 'em out there, they break out at least another one or two rare songs.

By the way, does anyone have any thoughts/ideas on why they threw in this show for Santa Cruz? I don't get it, why would they break away from the Fillmore just to do one show a couple miles away?

I agree about these residencys. I mean what the hell. I respect Billy as an artist but he really dropped the ball with his chance here to do something special with the setlists. I mean I have all 9 Asheville shows downloaded and i think i may just pluck whatever new if any songs he plays in San Fran. Funny i thought these were supposed to be incredible crowds, thats all i heard when they were in Asheville. That we were dumb rednecks in the south bla bla bla. San Fran will be so much better because its a sophisticated city not in the south etc...Billy is mad he is playing to these redneck crowds int he south. Well at least Asheville cared more i think. The 3 nights i went it was packed and the energy level was always high. Its blowing my mind to think he may play 8 more freaking nights of the same damn setlist what a bummer.

Exactly.. I was going to say.. people are treating this as one big 21 night residency.. which it is not.. there was an Asheville residency, now there is an SF residency.. especially with Billy's definition of "varying setlists", we have to expect that he's going to be playing stuff in SF as if he never even played Asheville.. I think Santa Cruz will be a nice bookend, and then we might see some variety next week.. I believe these are the only songs that were played in Asheville that we haven't heard in SF psalm 131, in my body, im doing the best i can, F you, daydream, come on lets go, annie dog, !.. hopefully he doesn't sprinkle those over the next 9 shows and call it a residency, with nothing else new.. haha.. although I would NOT be surprised

There's one setlist we can count on varying each night.. the Fillmore dinner setlist!
This was the best setlist so far.. the trout and crabcakes were excellent.. the dessert encores need work
