i was wondering if anyone would be interested in a somewhat-coordinated video shoot of at least one of these shows. for instance, if someone just focused on closeups of hands and faces, someone else focused on good wide and medium shots and someone else got a bunch of 'artsy' shots, we could really edit together something that looked fairly professional.

well, we're in the process of coordinating an edit of an ashville show with at least three different sources, but they were all shot randomly and independently. i thought it might be cool to try to at least try to coordinate the shooting beforehand.

Which night will you be taping? MonteLDS is taping all nights and already coordinating with other tapers that he knows and/or meets at the shows. Tonight a cool guy was running video right in front of Billy. Last night there were a couple people on the floor.

This will get done.

More important is the AUDIO situation. We need quality audio!

the idea is this.

people who tape in HD will get an HD copy

people who get a tape in SD will get a DVD w/o a bug in the corner.

Audio tapers will get a SD w/o bug possibly an HD w/ a bug though...

Everyone gets a DVD w/ a bug. i already have planed the massive release to be via torrent. i got a awesome server for seeders to get the video via FTP or i might FedEX out DVDs. possible i might have a t3 to help torrent and a MAYBE 10mbit line (10mbit line has a cap of some 20GB i was told, and is just a maybe...)

This is my attempt to stop sales on e-bay while the interest of the video is high. along with a generic email address for people to report sellers

that doesn't sound like it'll be very good television to me.

maybe we should try to deter ebay thieves by spreading word of this dvd by all available means and tracking ebay for improper sales. this 'punish everyone to foil the thief' approach seems less than optimal.

I have no qualms about not helping put it together. I just know that if I do it - I'll get it done and get a DVD. If someone else can do it, then great. My film is digital but not HD.

yeah, there is some cool software by red giant (http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/instanthd.html) that'll upres sd to hd, but i don't know if i'd use it on this... i'm not sure i'm sold on its quality just yet.
that brings up an interesting point, though. with an hd release, any sd-sourced video is going to stick out like a sore thumb.

i have no idea who some of these people are, or what their credentials are, but my 'armchair coordination' is based on 15 years of television experience.
just trying to lend some help.

any project i work on in the sp community will involve 100% sharing of everything. period.
these guys are certainly free to do things however they want, but that caveat pretty much let me know that they don't want my help and i don't want to help them.

Ok, can we get back to constructively putting something together. If I put stuff together, it'll be through vegas. My camera is digital, but no HD. I feel competent filming and even more competent in editing. Those skills are on the table.

as I said, the main problem right now is that the quantity of tapers seems lower than asheville.. it might just be because not many have surfaced yet..

several tapers are apparently willing to share their hd footage with the community, but one individual in charge of the finished product decides to distribute only sd copies to the community and says 'if you want the hd version, trade me something for it.' that's fine if it's that one person's footage - not so fine if some of that footage belongs to people who want to see the hd shared with no strings attached.
maybe hoarding is the wrong term.
profiteering is probably more correct.

Tapers are doing a lot of work to do this. You spend 2 hrs and 15 mins working as a human tri pod with a tiny camera and see what I mean. I don't mind if other hd tapers want to be heros but right now it is both way too much to ask for a blu-ray disc from me unless you helped.

All i am told is that because the show are "sold out" that we can't bring in stands or tripods or anything because of the hazard.

One thing i hope is that we have someone else w/ a camera who is willing to share when my camera poops on me from buffer error (which i might have fixed)

I am also considering buying a 2nd camera for a friend (markpregen) to use as an additional go wild and tape whenever you want video taper. But this will cost me another $1300 on my CC. which i am not sure i can do right now because i have spent well over $2500 on this stuff already. and despite that i plan to sell the camera i am using for the project

you should at least try -- on the 16th, i walked up to the door at 10pm, a few minutes before they went on, and the boxes at the front full of envelopes with tickets had a signficant amount of envelopes left.. and it was very easy for me to find a place to stand at the back, it wasn't like the entire floor was packed like sardines like they were up front

microphone capsules = $1500-$3000
microphone bodies and cables or low-profile replacement = $1500-$2500
pre-AMP = whatever you're willing to pay
portable HD recorder = $300-$500
portable HD media = $100
windscreens, clamps, stands, other miscellaneous gear = $300

...But it's perfectly acceptable to expect a taper to immediately release his tape to the bitching masses on the internet while people with shaky video and sound that still needs to be matrixed with a good AUD tape complain about cost? Give me a break.

I give GREAT respect to audio tapers. w/o them we would have video w/o audio. Audio people have the right to make the choice to leak their stuff in whatever quality.
