...damnit well, fine - I've gotta pull an overnighter tonight, but I'l be here tomorrow morning for all the amusement and excitement.

...maybe saying this mantra all night will keep me entertained, "soma, ruby, ocean, mourning, bodies, jellybelly, martha..." and increase the chances? Ha, maybe not.

I think thats why the 4th show (or was it 5th?) was so great...after being disappointed in a couple of shows with nothing new..they come out with TAFH/fuck you and rotten apples.

If I'd known they were going to play TAFH at Asheville #4, it would have...not ruined, but certainly damaged, the moment. I'd never take a chance on screwing up something like that just so a few people on Netphoria can get their setlist fix 30 minutes early.

I prefer being surprised at the shows, too. TAFH wasn't a shocker for me, because I'd heard them playing it for (what seemed like) hours during sound check. But when Billy introduced Rotten Apples, it was a good feeling. :)

i suppose one could look at it the other way, if you're the type to spend the whole show waiting for that big surprise, fretting before each song whether this will be the one, growing increasingly frustrated that they haven't played Soma or whatever, and end up regretting the show for what it wasn't. or you can peek at the setlist, see that there are no shockers coming, and instead enjoy the show for what it is.

Fuck everything else. This show blew away last night's. The band sounded better, and Jimmy was pounding hard on the drums. It was awesome. The crowd tonight had more energy than last night, people were moving a lot more and not just staying still. I was towards the right this time, abour the 3rd row of people and in front of Jeff/Geoff. I could see Billy the entire time. It's worth it. The songs being played had a fuckload more energy and I felt like Billy was really pleased with the fans tonight nd felt the crowd and energy. He said thank you a few times throughout the show, we all thanke him back.

I wish I could go to more shows, but the first two were the ones I got tickets for. Still, I'm fucking happy as shit I got to see them. thought last night was good, this one demolishes it.

JRiordan
07-17-2007, 05:17 AM
I would post what Monte asked but it was too lame ;)

Billy had TONS of banter tonight. For a while it was depressing because he seemed to be sulking about life (i.e. nothing is good enough for him if he is not selling 5 million copies of Zeitgeist in the first week). He said something about "what's it all about", and I yelled "the music!!!", then he was like "oh sure, if it's all about the music we wouldn't be having this conversation" (slight misquote). Also "You work for 17 months and then you want to actually sell a CD? What a concept!" Then he said "hey these crazy outfits cost money you know!". Also "Ginger looks like a million bucks right now... and you should see how Ginger dresses off stage!". (EDIT: mark's interpretation of the Ginger comment (post below) is funnier, and hopefully he is correct. I could be wrong here). Also ragged on Jeff with some 420 comments. Did Jeff suddenly get the urge to blaze during the show or something? Not sure what made that come up. (EDIT: Yeah, he did mention the 420 shirts from Asheville, that's how it came up. Thanks mark for remembering (post below))

But later during the show he talked again and said "you know it really is about the music, and the music is better than all the other crap out there, and we love you very much". So that was a-nice Billy. He said something like "For those of you without a sense of humor, I was joking earlier. People tend take my comments way too seriously."

Also the infamous ZERO t-shirt (black with silver letters) was based on the Oakland Raiders colors. Billy finally revealed this 12 years later. He joked that the Raiders would be good next year.

Before his first long speech, he said, "it's time for some reflection". Then someone yelled "JIMMY!!!!", then the crowd starting going wild for Jimmy, and they put the spotlight on him. Billy said something like "whenever I talk I always get myself in trouble". Jimmy also got a huge hand when Billy said that he didn't know if he could raise kids in today's world, then pointed to Jimmy, who got another big hand.

markpregen
07-17-2007, 05:19 AM
what'd you ask, what was his answer?!

monte asked him if he thought the raiders would come back, and billy said no they suck.. (see below for more details on billy's raider tangent)

before with every light, some girl came on stage (probably a roadie?) and billy said "who was that beautiful indian girl on stage?" and ginger said it was a ghost.. and billy said "the ghost of the fillmore"

before to sheila billy said "its reflection time.. time to reflect on either your miserable existence or your hopeful nonantagonistic existence.. youve obviously chosen path A".. then some cheering for Jimmy... "end of reflection time"

billy had tons of cheesy hand motions during death from above since he didn't have a guitar to worry about

billy was talking a lot tonight (during the show).. after 33, he said something about "san bernadino" (on purpose, instead of san francisco) and people started booing.. and he said at least I didn't say "oakland" and more booing.. and then he went off on a tangent about the Raiders.. and he said the Zero shirt colors were chosen because of Raider colors.. and he said the raiders suck.. and he said he liked the raiders colors better than the 49ers colors for the zero shirt..and he started asking if Joe Montana's hair is real.. and how phil collins and sting have weird hair...

before today, he was saying how he feels hatred and bile.. I think this was what he called "reflection number 2".. he said we live in a world of f'ing haters.. mentioned the SP 420 shirts.. they ordered 250 of them and they didnt sell out in NC..so they brought them to SF.. he said he likes talking better than singing.. he complained about how no one is buying zeitgeist again.. he had this great banter with ginger where they each said "why you gotta hate?" (he said it costs good money for these crazy outfits.. ginger looks like a million bucks and she costs it too.. you should see her without the outfit.. and then ginger said "why you gotta hate?").. then he went off on this tangent about how he talked to Bon Jovi backstage of live earth and they said "its all about the music"

he talked about how he wouldnt want to raise kids in this world.. I dont know how you parents do it.. and he looked at jimmy and people started clapping.. and Ginger said "What about Jeff?" wtf? does Jeff have kids already?
then before encore 2 billly said he was joking about all the stuff he said earlier, and "i love you all" etc

ginger/jeff didn't say a word night 1, but I think billy talking so much got them talking

cherub rock and shame were crazy

Fuck everything else. This show blew away last night's. [...] thought last night was good, this one demolishes it.

I heard a few people say this after the show, but I don't know about "blowing away". I mean, each show had a lot of highlights. Silverfuck last night had a sick jam. Heavy Metal Machine may have rocked more last night. But how about Jeff's soloing tonight right after the first lyrics of HMM? Sick! I was between him and Billy so I could hear him perfectly.

But tonight we got Cherub Rock, all-time classic, and the Gossamer encore was a way way better version (20-25 minutes, not nearly as much wanking). It really didn't drag tonight, unless you are the type of person who can't deal with any sort of extended free-form jamming.

But yeah in a way there was more energy tonight. But last night the crowd jumping/pushing started early (Today & Bullet), then resumed during HMM and even Tonight, Tonight. I was happy that they went acoustic after that (For God & Country, Rotten Apples, If all goes wrong, Leaving Lament), because I was so exhausted after the beginning (only due to my long flight from Chicago and last of sleep). But tonight there was no pushing all the way until the Zero encore, which suddenly got crazy. The front was crushed (to dust) to the rail. Lots of jumping. I didn't mind though, it was Zero.

With Every Light tonight was beautiful, just like To Sheila both nights and the God & Country last night.

Rocket -- nice to hear acoustic, but the soaring electric version is so great that I'd rather they were doing that. Oh well. He introduced it with "Now I'm going to play a song I wrote as a wee lad" or something.

Billy did get a ton of applause tonight, and stayed on stage at the end after the rest of the band left waving to everyone for a while (he didn't do this last night).

Ok I am one.

Wait wait, I am meant to say I am on my way home from san jose. The show was in sf but had someone who needed a ride.

Anyways I am super tierd.

We will have a lot of videos leaked tomorrow by me.
Banter, Death from Above, and the new song which name I can't recall. I might crash though and we may see none of my video. Because I am driving sleepy on 680 north while posting on some msg board that doesn't care about the fillmore shows enough to be online at some crazy hour.
I stood up for all the east coast shows.
Peace. I mean hate. Whatever....

I was outside after Billy left. Eventually the video crew came out. I told them they need to convince Billy to actually release this supposed "documentary DVD" (which Billy mentioned in the interview with the Asheville Citizen-Times). He said "oh it is coming out for sure". Sounded pretty confident.

Last night when the moshing started I was right there with the crowd. One of the big bouncer dudes kept coming through and eventually just stayed there for a half hour. There wasn't much moving around after that.

Silverfuck last night was so fucking good. That set the mood for me for the rest of the night.

Still, when looking back this show was so much better. I guess it's some small things I noticed throughout the night. Billy did seem much happier tonight than last night. He talked a lot so we know he wants to talk and enjoy the crowd. He didn't keep looking over at all the musicians to make sure everything was going right.

I dunno. This crowd was a lot more positive and had a lot more energy. I guess it could be attributed actually staying with the people I entered the conert with and just rocking out with those around me.

JRiordan
07-17-2007, 06:05 AM
Yeah the crowd was very good, and Billy was smiling a lot.

Dude 3 rows back center got kicked for smoking weed. Is this really the Fillmore? But I was actually glad in his case since he was obnoxiously drunk, and tall, blocking views.

I must have been going pretty crazy throughout, because someone behind me came up to me after it ended and said "hey since you seem to know their entire catalog, what was the last song called?" I said Gossamer, not on the album, etc. He said he loved it. So there ya go, Gossamer haters. Tonight's was pretty sick.

Garlic Wolf
07-17-2007, 06:19 AM
Yeah it was. The ending took off a little surprise and the extra rocking at the end was satisfying like french toast on a sunday morning. It just sets the mood for the rest of the week. Maybe I'm going too far with the show. I loved it. I hope some audio leaks out. Aeroplane Flies High was a nice surprise.

I saw the one dude get kicked, but the dude was tall. and bouncing all over the place out of sync with the music. He was that funny dude at the show trying to rock out at all the wrong times.

Shame was really nice live.

From reading what JRiordan has had to say, I'd say my favorite part of the night was Ginger talking. I think this will help her become more accepted in the community if she shows she isn't just there to rock (even though that's okay I think.)

i didn't read any of this thread yet, i'll do so after this post. i'm almost always joking when i'm negative about bill/pumpkins here, but for a while there last night, ugh. i went there with an open mind, hoping it'd be enjoyable. and as it went on, largely it was. sure, blue skies bring tears is probably not the best song to play so early on, but hey, they rearranged it a bit, jimmy's tearing it up, so i'll soak it all in. the opening songs were sick. i enjoyed tonight tonight way more than i thought i would, it was awesome. same with cherub rock, i thought i'd be sick of those songs, but they were performed real well. death from above was a million times better in person and performed that way, very enjoyable. it was going real well.

then bill went into a 10 minute whine fest. he said they were pretty tired, adn played 22 songs already, maybe they should call it a night. and that we'd gotten our money's worth, it was less than a dollar a song (not true, $25/ticket + service charge). then he made a real snarky comment about how it'd be nice to have an album that actually sells. as i was saying yesterday, that's an awfully misdirected comment in a room full of fans who cared enough to get the tickets in the 30 seconds before they sold out. why take it out on us. you're right bill. i bet it would be nice to have an album sell. i did my part, one for me and one for a gift. over the years, the amount of money the people in that room spent on him must be pretty large, so it doesn't seem very fair or professional to whine about it to these people. he was like, "why do you think we make an album for 17 months? 'cause we have nothing better to do?" and someone shouted "for the music!" which caused bill to snort and he said "<i>yeah,</i> for the <i>music</i>. it's all about the <i>music.</i> like when i ran into bon jovi back stage at live earth. that's what he said. the music man, <i>yeah!</i>. cause whatever he says goes. like kanye west, it's all about he music. NO, it's <i>not</i> all about the music. this stuff costs money. these weird clothes, they cost money". etc. etc. and sure the comment about the clothes seemed like he was trying to bring some levity in, but still, his point had been made. and he continued. he said he was full of hate and bile, and yes, he said it in a sarcastic tone, but when someone said why? he said "cause im in a room full of fuckin' haters". wtf dude. i've been one of the most vocally hateful people on the internet, but it's not sincere, and it's just for amusement. at the show, out of respect, i did nothing but cheer! my gf wanted to sit down, so i found her a chair, but i didn't sit, out of respect. and he calls us haters. it was pretty alienating, borderline confrontational. and after all of that he played today. now how the fuck am i supposed to enjoy that when you've basically said you're doing all this for the money and don't really care about the music. how can i enjoy that song, after having heard him talk about why he wrote it, and the meaning it held for him then? it's like some shitty robot puppet show, it was awful. i had really, really hoped that he'd play rotten apples that night, because for me, it's one of the most meaningful songs i know. but after that whole display, i'm thankful that he didn't play it.

i think jimmy might have said something to him when they left stage because when he came back on he said people shouldn't take him so seriously sometimes and that he was just joking, it was a joke. really? a joke doesn't usually last 10 minutes, with one constant, driving theme. it really didn't seem like a joke when he was saying it, aside from the comment about the weird clothes. but when he was apologizing, i still kind of believed him. he said 'we know it takes a lot of sacrifice for you to come here, and we appreciate it, we love you for it' and it sounded kind of empty. almost like he was just reciting what he knew he had to say, it didn't seem genuine. but still i kind of felt for him, he's a human, we all get frustrated, and if we're mindful, we try to do the right thing after taking our frustrations out. he said that thank got it <i>is</i> about the music, because that's the only good thing to come out of this f'ing thing. i said before the show i'd leave if they played gossamer, but i stayed. my gf wanted to leave and was falling asleep, but still i stayed, and stood, out of respect. and when it was all over, and the band left and he was still there, clapping and acknowledging the audience, which was about 50% of what it was earlier, i was still applauding him.

but i didn't leave feeling that was a great show. i didn't leave thinking "man, all those reviewers must really have an unfair axe to grind." even after the apology, it seemed like the guy was borderline taunting "you're not going anywhere! your'e not going anywhere!" during gossamer. it's 1 am, those of us here have stuck with you through it all, dude taunt someone else, not the people who are STILL there, after your unprofessional, negative rant, and after your self-indulgent, self-serving jam. i tried really hard to like it. and there were isolated moments that were great. "old man bill can really still rock," i thought sometimes. but i didn't leave feeling it was a good show. i left feeling i owed my gf an apology for having her endure that. when it was brutal getting up and rushing to work, when i realized i forgot my badge and my wallet because i was too tired to remember them, and so i have no money for breakfast and i'm pretty darn hungry, i don't have the warm thought "at least it was for an awesome show". i wish i did, but i don't.

shout out to monte, i saw you up there videotaping, i wanted to say hi but didn't want to interrupt.

when he was back, semi-apologizing and saying that it <i>is</i> all about the music, he said why else would i do that solo album, and why would jimmy to the jimmy chamberlin complex. and everyone cheered so loudly for the jimmy chamberlin complex. he said oh i guess they liked your album a lot better than mine. what's so bad about a guy with a synthesizer? that was pretty funny. he did have some good jokes over the course of the night, my gf remaked that she was surprised at his good jokes. the one about how the zero shirt would not have been a classic if he had went with 49ers colors made me laugh pretty hard

the fillmore staff looked pretty annoyed towards the end, they're probably thinking "9 more nights of this?"

i'm going again on the 27th, by myself. i still have some hope. maybe it's something similar to stockholm syndrome.

oh one funny part, during his rant, he looked over to jeff and said "you were asking for a meltdown, well here we go"

and jeff said "yeah, i've always heard about the old billy, but till now i've only seen happy billy. is this the depressed billy? angry billy?"

something like that

billys always had a bit of a dry sense of humor to him at times so i do believe he was joking ant not covering it up down the line but rather reminded by jimmy to make SURE everyone realizes it's a joke. Either way, im not too surprised by it. i AM surprised that jeff and ginger spoke, you quote jeff so i can takle your word that he spoke and believe someone else mentioned ginger made a comment. It's good to see they're starting to loosen up and go with the flow.

Yeah, people get on my case when I say Billy is a douche, but then he goes and does something like this. You can't say something like that and be all "JUST KIDDING! LOVE ME!" Besides, all jokes are rooted in truth somewhere. I'm especially apalled at the comments about "we gave you your money's worth" and him not feeling like playing. You can't say that shit.

Is it really that hard for most people to just enjoy a show for what it is? That's kind of sad.
Seriously, they play for 3 hours! I am happy they play any old songs at all. Loads of bands that make "come backs" only play new songs. Don't say anything like that, it makes Billy throw his little temper tantrums. Hehe.

great review.. i kept asking monte if he had talked to you because i wanted to meet the infamous wHATcOLOR.. maybe we'll see you at this 7/22 party at "guz" place? i assume someone will be posting details at some point.. or will it just be word of mouth

anyway, I agree that there may have been some sarcastic jokes in billy's comments, but I think a lot of it was not jokes, even if he said they were jokes, unfortunately.. but it was nice of him to make an attempt to cover himself at least

So what was this song 'Promise Me' like? And how was 'Death From Above', did it sound like it did on the album?

Thanks

promise me was similar in tone to the other new acoustic songs.. i believe it was full band.. i thought it was a GREAT song myself

death from above was billy singing and doing crazy hand motions (clasping his hands over his heart, stretching out, etc.. looked like cheesy britney spears choreography, but thats billy for you). lisa on piano.. thats about it.. but yes the vocals sounded EXCELLENT just like the album in my opinion

I have to say.. I dont recall Billy's voice sounding this great back in the day.. maybe I'm insane.. but I think his voice is sounding incredible for a man of 40 years..

it really seemed to inject a lot of negativity into the experience for me, so yeah i think that's a fair statement, with the caveat that casual fans might still find the show to be indulgent/overbearing. preview of song new songs (death from above, promise me), some sweet sounding versions of shame, to sheila, with every light, rocket, etc. translucent alone is pretty incredible that they're playing. hummer, starla, the aeroplane flies high.. pretty incredible. and jimmy is just phenomenal

wHATcOLOR..... I really liked your review and appreciated it because i thought it was really sincere, but reading it made me so sad! :( I know BC keeps saying this is not a cash grab, and I believe him, but then why say something like this, even in jest? I guess he doesn't really care about the money, he probably just wants it to sell because then that'll mean that the album/music is really good and that he still has it. I keep seeing these pictures from the concerts and to me he just doesn't look happy even when he smiles..... well, I hope everything works out well for him because I wish him the same as I wish everyone else and that's happiness (oh man I'm getting too sappy....better quit while I'm ahead) well Thanks to you and Montel for the clips :).

As I said before, Billy's initial rant was overall quite a downer, but for me he sounded sincere when he came back and said "it IS all about the music", and that pretty much redeemed it all for me (esp. since I yelled "the music!", being sincere myself, earlier). Obviously he was ragging on Sting and Bon Jovi for playing their greatest hits and being nostalgia acts at Live Earth (and that Kanye butchered the music with his nonsense during the Police). Maybe he even had the ridiculous Police ticket prices (up to $250 in Chicago) in mind when he was commenting about how we "already got our money's worth". A stretch thought, but who knows. And yes SP played 2 of their greatest hits at Live Earth, but they at least had the balls to open with a new song, a 9-10 minute one at that.

We all know Billy wants Zeitgeist to go platinum overnight. Who wouldn't? It would feel great to be on top of the world again. Even if tons of diehard fans are adoring him right now, he still needs the validation of the general public. He is understandly very self-conscious when releasing a new SP album after 7 years of "breakup". So he continues to comment on record sales and the overall business of it. But charging $20 in Asheville and $25 in San Francisco, and allowing video taping? There is no selfishness or hunger for money in that. So I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt overall.

i think it's easier to watch from your computer. when you're there, you've been on your feet for hours, and you're hoping to hear as many songs as you can before you have to leave because it's too late. you've probably bought the album, and tons of other albums, and concert tickets and tshirts, etc. bill's personality has inured itself to all of us because we've listened to so many shows, rants, interviews, and talks with fans before and after shows over the years. "oh, that's just billy" we tend to say. it doesn't make him any less of an asshole. to be honest, if i were completely on my own, i probably wouldn't have minded nearly as much, i would have brushed it aside. but i could see my gf's reaction, someone who's not used to bill. i warned her that it would be a long show and it woudln't be all hits, but still, everyone sacrificed something, little for some (me), large for others (those who traveled far), and it's not exactly awesome to have a grown man having a little pity party while the time ticks by and everyone around you gets annoyed.

and of course it's easier to take when you're just watching a clip on youtube. in the context of everything else, particularly as mark said, it's a bit different

and it's not like i'm sitting here all furious still, i'm just trying to explain my reaction to it. it seems kind of something to just laugh off now, "oh, taht's just billy". at the time it was seriously annoying though

Man, am I the only one that got a total "tongue in cheek" vibe from the Billy rant, even without seeing that he later said that he was just joking?
No. I got that vibe too. This was nothing like the rants he got off on during the TFE tour when he got annoyed at people chanting for SP songs. That's the only time I think Billy's ever really gotten off on a serious rant onstage. This was nothing. I'm sure that at the core of it, some of what he's expressing reflects what he actually feels, but what's coming out of his mouth is highly exaggerated for the purpose of self-depreciating humor.

And really, who can blame the guy for having a little chip on his shoulder? The guy has always been misunderstood and taken too seriously by the general public, but now its getting to the point where even many fans are doing it. It seems like the guy just can't win for losing.

He wasn't joking, even if he said so at the end. And I really feel bad for him, I mean if you don't like the music, that's fine but why do people hate him because of that.
I don't understand this, maybe that's a cultural thing but I do not understand why you can hate someone for creating an album that does not sound the way you wanted it to sound. I mean Zeitgeist is not my favorite album, hope the next one will be different and that's it.

well i think he did sound genuinely frustrated while at the same time trying to make light of it. maybe he realized what a doofus he sounded like but wanted to be honest and open about his frustrations for a moment. yeah that's not a very professional thing for an entertainer to do, and i'm sure i would've felt the discomfort if i'd been there and especially if accompanied by less-engaged party.

you know, I got the feeling that he was referring to the crap reviews zeitgeist was getting when he was saying "It's not all about the music, obviously." He was being sarcastic. He was noting the fact that everyone was using his strongly misunderstood (IMO) personality as a way to bash the album and avoid actually reviewing the music.

I really and honestly, after seeing it, don't think he meant anything he said literally.

But of course, I can't read his mind. I just don't think it's anythign to really get upset about.

But, like whatcolor said, I'm sure it was a different experience actually being there. I'm not trying to say "You're wrong," I'm just saying what I got out of the clip.

Some brainless guy yelled "D'ARCY!!!!!!", I beleive within the first minute or two of To Sheila. You could hear it very clearly since it was a quiet song. A bunch of people then "Ooooooohhhhhhh'd". Band kept playing, and nothing more happened.

Thinking about this, now I do sympathize even more for Billy. If the fans who were online immediately when tickets went onsale and paid $36 (including fees) to see you are even yelling dumb shit, then yes, the world is full of haters.

Bring the light people.

Also I yelled "ZEITGEIST!!" after Death From Above, because I really want to hear the song Zeitgeist played. Billy said thanks, but probably just thinking it was a general call for the album, not the song. Or else it was just a totally generic thanks, nothing to do with my plea. Can't be sure.

When he said using good cheer to combat the world full of haters (WORLD, not talking about the current audience) and "oh, yeah - an album that sells" it was a dig on the media for always giving them a hard time. Sort of like, if the record sells it would shut them up.

When i started reading this thread, I had a lot of stuff I wanted to say, but as I got to the end, a lot of you have already said what I was thinking. I can understand the feelings wHATcOLOR had; the rant really does seem disrespectful to the fans who obviously spend a great deal of their hard-earned cash on this band. I mean, i think it's safe to assume most of us aren't multimillionaires like bill, though technically WE are the one's who've put all that cash in his pockets...and yet he wants MORE? At least this is what his rant APPEARED TO BE.

but then i was thinking more about it, and for one thing, i think this is more to do with pride and ego than money. I think he wants to sell a lot of records to feel like he's loved and appreciated, rather than to make himself richer and richer. The guy seems pretty insecure to me, you know? And I think, after watching Monte's videos (and thanks for all of your work btw, monte), that billy wasn't referring to the people in the audience as much as the critics from pitchfork, rolling stone, and the countless other reviews posted here that take dig after dig at billy personally, with very little talk of the actual music.

So I understand the people who were bummed out about his little speech, but at the same time, i think i get where he was coming from. He should just try a little harder to make it clear who he's talking about, rather than appearing to blame the audience for all of the hate he's been getting lately.

Those S. American guys were great. After Billy left they were talking to some people who were still around. Someone asked them how they liked the show. One was almost breathless. He said "Oh... I don't have the words to describe..... AWESOME"

Also talked to a hilarious Russian exchange student who the Fillmore let in at 11:30PM for free. Her story made my night. She was saying how she is not a HUGE fan but her ex-boyfriend was, and after they let her in, she immediately called him in Russia and said "omg I'm at Smashing Pumpkins!!!!!". She asked if they played "Disarm" since it was her favorite song, and I said sorry but that was last night. She had a sad look on her face. But I told her it was just an OK version, and that we've all heard it so many times. But for her maybe it woulda been more special. She also said that when she went in at 11:30 she thought the show would only last 30 more minutes, but "they played for half and an hour!!!". I said, yeah, pretty good deal, these long shows.

She was also comparing D'Arcy and Ginger. She said Ginger dresses too sexily, while D'Arcy was sexy without being over the top.

She also had the most hilarious reaction to Billy's comments about the Raiders. She had absolutely no clue why he would be talking about something like this.

I told her to come back Wednesday.... hope she gets in again

what im getting out of this is "hey, we work HARD and all people can do is BITCH and accuse us of selling out, while were doing 3 hour shows for 20 fucking dollars."

everyone needs to make a living. Lots of people are oblivious to this fact, like making music is a free venture. But if SP didn't start selling records way back in '91, they probably still wouldnt be making music.

ITS ALWAYS ABOUT MONEY. PEOPLE NEED TO SURVIVE. I can imagine it's hard for SP to read critics accusing them of trying to cash in on this. Every fucking musician out there making records does it for money. It's a JOB. we all need one. Now is anyone paying 300 bucks for their tickets? they could charge a lot more and im sure they would be making that money as well (fans will pay anything).

Now for him to go on and on during a show, it is pretty annoying. The man cant keep his mouth shut, thats a given. Maybe if he decided to do more interviews he wouldn't have let it out on his own stage.

he looked incredibly nervous while speaking. But i can see how where he is coming from can be frustrating.

that's exactly why I don't get all of this 'billy is an egotistical, arrogant, pretentious

bastard who thinks he's God's gift to music', it's just confusing to me because it

doesn't take a genius to figure out that he's insecure and probably low on self-esteem,

I mean just read or watch any one of his interviews it's really quite obvious, yet a lot

Well it's like the classic bully... they're so insecure that they build themselves up to be something great. Billy does have a big ego, but personally I think he's just honest. He DID start one of the greatest bands in the universe, and if he wants to say so then I don't see why we shouldn't let him.

But he's definitely got issues. He's not been able to hold on to any sort of romantic relationship for very long, so maybe his fame is his way of compensating for his lack of luck with the ladies. That's lots of l's.

I don't have any proof of this. Just analyzing.

Did anyone else hear some of White Rabbit in Heavy Metal Machine? Sounded like he sang the "remember what the dormouse said/feed your head" part. Also they started playing what sounded like part of Silverfuck after Gossamer. Jimmy started playing it and everyone else went along with it. Ginger and Jeff looked confused but Billy and Jimmy were laughing. Then it looked like someone in the the sound booth gave them a signal to stop. Billy and Jimmy looked at each other and laughed and the Jimmy ended it with some cymbal smashing.

On one hand I am kind of dissapointed by Billy, but on the other hand he gave us a great new album, is doing cheap shows, and from what people have said, has really been rocking out. I suppose he has the right to say what he wants, but I still get a sad feeling that perhaps he is in this just for money.

I do understand how after the failures of Zwan and The Future Embrace, he is upset that not even Smashing Pumpkins can sell. I guess you can say his only true success (in terms of sales) over the last seven years was Blinking with Fists.

He spends his money on the band. I don't understand how anyone doesn't see this. If the album doesn't sell, the amount of cool stuff he can do with the band goes down. That's what it's about.

that was pretty fucking funny, not a big deal at all. jc's expression the whole time is like, "jesus, why did i bring this crazy drunk man to the party." and even if he was half-serious, who cares, good for him. some people think they can say whatever they want without consequence, just because it's on the internet. if you're an adult, you realize that everything you say has consequences. (he probably does lurk the boards, because the top thread right before the show was about how his dad should die and how he was a whiny little bitch.) not to mention all of the negative press from critics. so let's learn a lesson from this - start praising the bollster, people. ;)

as far as the rant goes.. it's goes right along with this whole package that is the smashing pumpkins. Billy responds to his critics, usually in a hissy fit manner, and it's fuckin ENTERTAINING. It's almost like the critics are as harsh as they are so they can rile him up and get the goods that is his long ass life is shit rants.

I wish I could. The only shows I got tickets for wire the 15th and 16th. However, I'm satisfied with both shows.

It seemed pretty obvious he was joking around, nothing in that was directed to the people in the audience

not even the "you've got your money's worth, we've played you 22 songs tonight" part?

:p

Well yeah, but that was definitely a joke. It's not like he really would have just left. But i'm sure he knows that everyone there is obviously supporting him. All the stuff about haters and not buying albums... that wasn't to you guys. He seemed to be having a good time actually.... i thought at least.

don't get me wrong though I still would have been disapointed if he talked for 9 minutes. He could have played Bodies and Mouths of Babes in that time frame

it's cute how he keeps punching his fist
That is my picture you have as your display, I took it at the Blinking with Fists Book signing at Herbst theater. No worries though, you can keep it!

I heard White Rabbit, but I did not notice the looks and what not you speak of.

I can't believe some of you are complaining about the banter. The only acts I know who don't have occassional banter are pure pop acts. Billy is not allowed to do anything without it being construed into a negative attack on his 'fans'. You people are fans of mocking Billy. Stop wasting tickets that real fans could buy.

People go to concerts to hear the music, but obviously that is not the only reason or they would just play the music at home. Making things personal adds more to the experience, imo.

Also, the comment about haters being in the room could have easily been based on the July 15 show where some jackass took it upon himself to scream "Come on, Billy!" at the top of his lungs during an acoustic performance and at a quiet part of the song. The way the fan said it was in a "why aren't you playing greatest hits" kind of tone.

what's pretty funny about this whole thing is that you've been a pretty vocal hater (i know, mostly in a joking manner) of billy's for a while on this board.. so you buy a ticket for a show and it happens to be one where he decides to go on a bitching fest about the 'haters.' kinda worked out didn't it?

pretty coincidental but it's funny how it worked out. Definately entertaining to read about all of this on the board.

hehe, i agree. though to be clear, you really won't find much hating from me at all as soon as they started playing music. my hate was largely a 2003-april 2007 thing..

oh i'm aware. It's just funny to have been used to reading your hate posts, then to read your review in this thread. It's almost like bolly knew you'd be there.. "why you gotta hate man! nothing wrong with a guy and a synth! we played 22 songs, you got your moneys worth!"

you could just select them all and drag them into a folder you make on your desktop, that should extract them

Yeah, I got in touch with the admin. Enjoy. I used omni mics so I recommend headphones for the full experience as it is in 360 degrees. It's a little bassy so I trimmed the bass down before putting it up. Read the text file and enjoy.
