was pretty sweet (especially sonic youth, jesus christ), except that everything was too quiet.

Highlights of the SY set were:
Silver Rocket
The Sprawl
'Cross The Breeze
Candle
The slow section of Trilogy
Incinerate

(they actually played Providence, and encored with Incinerate, Reena, and Jams Run Free)

quote of the night:
"This goes out to the GZA" - Thurston

Incinerate is so fun live, they've really tightened it up this year.

My only complaint is that it was pretty quiet. Everything else was great.

I saw Sonic Youth on Friday, and I agree that the sound didn't carry too well. It was fun, though.

one of the saddest things about coachella was missing sonic youth..

but i had to see interpol. if SY was doing daydream nation then i probably wouldve caught them instead.

man... the last time i saw interpol (curiosa, '04 was it?), they weren't very good. it's kind of put a damper on my enjoyment for them since.

they were amazing at coachella.

the sound at the main stage was better than the sound at the other outdoor stage, interpol was playing in the former and SY the latter

The sound at the outdoor stage drives me insane every year. It always sounds distant and shitty unless you're right up at the front. I was pissed when Arcade Fire played there in '05 and I couldn't get close enough for it to sound good.

I actually saw them at Curisiosa too and would agree that they didn't give the best performance. However I've seen them twice since then and they're MUCH better live now.

who did you catch at the end of saturday? i was watching the good the bad and the queen and they played their full album, great set, but tiesto was drowning them out a good chunk of the time because the bass was soooo loud. damon albarn said "that's a nice ice cream band you got over there," hah. you could tell he was pissed, but they still played the album very well.

The Rapture was the last band I saw on Saturday.

Yeah, see, outdoor stage sucks. I remember trying to watch The Decemberists and hearing Kings of Leon clearly from the main stage. The best experiences I've had at outdoor were Animal Collective and Fiery Furnaces a couple of years ago, but that was because I was able to get pretty close.

I didn't really have any sound complaints about coachella this year, although I was pretty close for every band I saw.

I thought arcade fire sounded like a giant jumble of bass with no instruments cutting through the mix, although i was furthest back for them.

im a huge interpol fan, but i was really bummed to miss SY.

such an amazing weekend..

friday: the noisettes, tokyo police club, silversun pickups, arctic monkeys, jesus and the mary chain, (pretty much positioning myself for the front for interpol, but previous three were all good), interpol, bjork

saturday: the fratellis, bits of travis, bits of kings of leon, half of the decemberists, the arcade fire, blonde redhead, sparklehorse, (most amazing three bands i could ever ask to catch in a row), the good the bad and the queen. also got pretty trashed this night because a bunch of random dudes wanted to drink me and my friend to our deaths, but we just had the drinks we needed and left. there goes 200 bucks those dudes'll never see again.

sunday: fair to midland (ech, but got a nice spot for tapes n tapes), tapes n tapes, explosions in the sky(amazing. just, amazing. helped that they were on during 4:20 and the atmosphere was sooo laid back), some of the roots, kaiser chiefs, placebo, air, ratatat, rage against the machine. lots of weed on sunday, explosions and ratatat were amazing, and rage's setlist was great.

it was just... so good. i cant start because ill never stop. im going every year.

haahah we saw almost the same bands all weekend.

my friday: tokyo police club, silversun pickups, arctic monkeys, jesus and the mary chain, sonic youth.

my saturday: the fratellis, hot chip, someone else...dont remember, the decemberists, the arcade fire, blonde redhead, sparklehorse, the good the bad and the queen.

my sunday: mika, tapes n tapes, grizzly bear:),explosions in the sky, some of the roots, kaiser chiefs, air, some of lilly allen, rage against the machine.

I'm sure I saw some more in their, but thats what I can remember.

well the only place you might have caught me was sparklehorse, there was like 200 people watching their set, when they opened up with 'Happy Man' I was the young lad yelling and clapping loudly around the left of the stage.

haha i was probably right in front of you. i think i might even be able to recognize you with some luck and really good memory.

i was in the front with some snooty annoying bitch who wouldnt shut the fuck up, right along the left side. i was taking a lot of video shots with my camera phone, ive interviewed mark before so i was stoked to catch sparklehorse live.

thats awesome! it was a pretty sweet set. I got to see them in Toronto before Coachella and they played a few songs they didn't play when I saw them before.

if your memory is super sonic, I was wearing a bright green "LOYOLA BASKETBALL" (highschool) t-shirt and salt+pepper brown shorts. I have thurston moore hair and a generic white teenager face. I was standing with a guy who was a little shorter then me and had a reggie miller basketball tank on.

Did you guys camp at Coach? We did, that was a fucking adventure in itself.

Friday: Half of Comedians of Comedy, Tokyo Police Club, Gillian Welch, Silversun Pickups, Arctic Monkeys, Jesus and Mary Chain, Interpol, Bjork.

Saturday: Pharoahe Monch, Fountains of Wayne ( :erm: ), Hot Chip, Peter Bjorn and John, a bit of Decemberists, Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture (best day for me, but had the most scheduling conflicts)

Sunday: Tapes n Tapes, Grizzly Bear, The Roots, Explosions in the Sky, Junior Boys, Klaxons, Air, Rage Against the Machine.

I've been to the past 4 Coachellas, and every time it's pretty much the highlight of my year, despite being viciously raped by the sun at all times.

Gillian Welch! I forgot about her. Highly recommended (her partner David Rawlings is the best acoustic guitarist I've ever heard)

my friend and i were too poor to camp. we ended up sleeping in the car during the first night where all the campers parked and then camping on the gen admission field the next couple of days. by saturday night other people would pass us in the car and be like "can you do that?" and we would say "fuck it" and they'd camp next to us. it was fun by the last night, practically the same experience with a little less people asking for drugs.

we just had big breakfasts every day at dennys and survived off the exchanging of 10 water bottles for a cold one during the day. after shows ended the floors were littered with bottles, during air i had collected so many and created a force field around my friend who had passed out. on the way back with my 30 bottles in hand i was offered weed like 5 times by hippies. cant say no to a friendly offer.

it killed me missing andrew bird, cocorosie, girl talk, lcd soundsystem, and a few others, but i pretty much sucked the amazing out of coachella. practically every band i saw sans maybe fair to midland i had a blast at. if you guys were close to the front during tapes n tapes i was in the left front and goin crazy and singing every lyric, the camera man was on me practically half the show because im a huge tapes n tapes fan. it felt kinda uncomfortable by the end of it.

coachella was so amazing, cant wait til next year. ill see you there nidhogg.
