View Full Version : Anybody else annoyed they dropped the "the"? Ugly 07-13-2007, 01:10 AM I specifically made it a point to label all my SP stuff "The Smashing Pumpkins" and now they go and are renewed and revived and its all "Smashing Pumpkins" now. Goddamnit! Skylarq 07-13-2007, 01:10 AM they stopped being british The Night Mare 07-13-2007, 01:11 AM Yes! I was really bothered by that. It's almost as bad as the un-Pumpkins song titling. Or how about the fact that Billy actually explained why Tarantula was called that (see SPFC where they have a quote from him). That really bothered me too. al0137 07-13-2007, 01:13 AM I specifically made it a point to label all my SP stuff "The Smashing Pumpkins" and now they go and are renewed and revived and its all "Smashing Pumpkins" now. Goddamnit! Yeah.. I know dude. They were never the same after they dropped the "THE". It's like 'Smashing Pumpkins' are a mere shell of the once great 'The Smashing Pumpkins'. Very good observation. It's threads like these that make Netphoria so essential and important in our current culture of band-related message boards. TuralyonW3 07-13-2007, 01:15 AM my ticketmaster email says "your THE SMASHING PUMPKINS tickets are attached" The Night Mare 07-13-2007, 01:15 AM Hey, personally, I think this thread should be stickied. Everyone should be aware of the suck pervading the new band name. Dogfighter28 07-13-2007, 01:17 AM I'm not a big fan of sticking "The" in front of band names, so meh. tstats 07-13-2007, 01:22 AM my ticketmaster email says "your THE SMASHING PUMPKINS tickets are attached" mine too and i was bothered by it as well but it wasnt that bad taking out the "the" from everything Feeder 07-13-2007, 01:31 AM The official email from smashingpumpkins.com refered to them as THE SMASHING PUMPKINS and Billy introduced them at the Paris show as THE SMASHING PUMPKINS... bellis123 07-13-2007, 01:45 AM does it really fucking matter... labmonkey 07-13-2007, 01:48 AM Isn't it just Smashing Pumpkins on Siamese Dream? Maybe because it was only Billy and Jimmy playing on that too tcm 07-13-2007, 01:53 AM maybe it doesn't really fucking matter. Dogfighter28 07-13-2007, 01:55 AM One thing is for sure - Elisha Cuthbert is my imaginary cumbucket Ugly 07-13-2007, 01:57 AM my ticketmaster email says "your THE SMASHING PUMPKINS tickets are attached" And I got a ticket for Toronto labeled "Smashing Pumpkins". I thought there was a big hubabaloo about calling them "The" post SD/MCIS. I'm gonna go by Live Earth (kinda lame, I know) but they were billed as "Smashing Pumpkins" on there, and the album cover. Darnit. What was Gish? There needs to be order! Without anarchy, there is chaos!! Entropy and all that shit! Trotskilicious 07-13-2007, 01:58 AM this is beyond stupid Ugly 07-13-2007, 01:58 AM One thing is for sure - Elisha Cuthbert is my imaginary cumbucket You back off, man. But you can go see CAPTIVTY. I can see PRBB doing a slow frame by frame on his second season DVD set of '24' when she's trapped by the tiger... "She's in distress PRBB.. go save her!!" *PRBB closes his eyes and furiously masturbates* tcm 07-13-2007, 02:01 AM And I got a ticket for Toronto labeled "Smashing Pumpkins". Which of course they shouldn't, considering Lo-fi bullshit has everything to owe to the Alt-Rock that The Pumpkins more or less created. Zwan Are Suck 07-13-2007, 04:08 AM the reason is i think legal tcm 07-13-2007, 04:33 AM no. Trotskilicious 07-13-2007, 06:21 AM yeah it was so subtle Ever 07-13-2007, 06:29 AM No it wasn't, it was real obvious I call them smashing pumpkins, the. Trotskilicious 07-13-2007, 06:35 AM oh ever. meladdo. how are you. corgandreams 07-13-2007, 06:40 AM It makes no difference really but I have never used "the".........so mine are all labelled right now! AyEye 07-13-2007, 06:43 AM This has irritated me from the start, all my my favorite (T?)SP albums were under the name The Smashing Pumpkins, still I figured people would say stuff like this: this is beyond stupid so I didn't mention it. Ever 07-13-2007, 06:47 AM Ugh the "the" is just added grammatically: I listen to the smashing pumpkins Have you heard any new smashing pumpkins songs? It's intuitive and it doesn't matter what's written on the covers. Ever 07-13-2007, 06:49 AM oh ever. meladdo. how are you.I'm around trotsky :) The Melty Man 07-13-2007, 08:09 AM Yeah everything new I get in iTunes is "Smashing Pumpkins" instead of "The Smashing Pumpkins" which is what all my other SP MP3s are labelled. skipgo 07-13-2007, 08:27 AM durrr.... they were called "smashing pumpkins" long before they added "the" to their name. And funny enough, people made a big deal about it when they did THAT. How hilarious that people are now mad they they've dropped it! smashkin33 07-13-2007, 08:34 AM When I burned the Paris boot onto cds to listen to in the car I wrote "TSP LIVE IN PARIS 2007" on them, and it pissed my friend off, she's like, "what's the T for?!" I explained they were going by THE SMASHING PUMPKINS for the past couple albums... she said that was lame. I guess I don't care either way, I suppose I'm glad to see THE gone, because it's back to the olden days, which is cool. blackjack davey 07-13-2007, 09:20 AM This thread is now fix'd! IWishIWasBlank 07-13-2007, 09:27 AM I specifically made it a point to label all my SP stuff "The Smashing Pumpkins" and now they go and are renewed and revived and its all "Smashing Pumpkins" now. Goddamnit! Not me.. I always went with "Smashing Pumpkins." Bummer for you Ugly. DoomsdayRocket 07-13-2007, 11:00 AM No, I never liked it. corrected. The Trashbirds 07-13-2007, 11:05 AM Their new flag still has "The" on it. I think they still use that in concert. I have my mp3s tagged based on the name they used at the time of release, not the current name. I like it better with "The" as well. Without "The," it sounds like their engaged in a juvenile Halloween prank. With "The," they sound like a group of angry evil monster-pumpkins that will smash in your face. That's cooler. The Trashbirds 07-13-2007, 11:08 AM Ugh the "the" is just added grammatically: I listen to the smashing pumpkins Have you heard any new smashing pumpkins songs? It's intuitive and it doesn't matter what's written on the covers. I don't. If I didn't have a "the" in my band name, I wouldn't want it said with my name. It changes the way it sounds. Thus: "I am listening to Pixies." vs. "I am listening to The White Stripes." I usually default to Smashing Pumpkins without "the," just out of habit for some reason. The Jesus 07-13-2007, 11:20 AM The Smashing Pumpkins DoomsdayRocket 07-13-2007, 11:24 AM in the earphoria cd is more annoying, on the front it says "the smashing pumpkins" on the side it says only "smashing pumpkins" confusing... The Trashbirds 07-13-2007, 11:33 AM in the earphoria cd is more annoying, on the front it says "the smashing pumpkins" on the side it says only "smashing pumpkins" confusing... OK, here's where I get REALLY OCD. Virgin ADDED "THE" to the cover of Vieuphoria and Earphoria because they were reissued in 2002 (after the Pumpkins had changed their name). The original cover looked like this: http://landslide.2007.org/omnipedia/vieuphoria.jpg and the reissue: http://www.videocanada.ca/catalogg/images/products/SMPUMP_vphor_WEB.jpg This same alteration was done to the Earphoria CD, but I'm not gonna post two more images. It was a Siamese era release and thus "The" was never part of the original work's title. It was added by Virgin for the reissue in '02 to make it more consistent with Pumpkins products since 1995. "Earphoria" was originally released under the name Smashing Pumpkins, and then some dumb graphic artist changed it in 2002 without making sure to make the binding and cover consistent with one another. DoomsdayRocket 07-13-2007, 01:09 PM well i couldn't care less about having the or not having... but this amateurish stuff where the artwork isnt consistent with itself... then it bothers me that's all... tcm 07-13-2007, 01:48 PM hey guys, you're dumb.
