Yeah everything new I get in iTunes is "Smashing Pumpkins" instead of "The Smashing Pumpkins" which is what all my other SP MP3s are labelled.

durrr.... they were called "smashing pumpkins" long before they added "the" to their name. And funny enough, people made a big deal about it when they did THAT. How hilarious that people are now mad they they've dropped it!

When I burned the Paris boot onto cds to listen to in the car I wrote "TSP LIVE IN PARIS 2007" on them, and it pissed my friend off, she's like, "what's the T for?!" I explained they were going by THE SMASHING PUMPKINS for the past couple albums... she said that was lame. I guess I don't care either way, I suppose I'm glad to see THE gone, because it's back to the olden days, which is cool.

I like it better with "The" as well. Without "The," it sounds like their engaged in a juvenile Halloween prank. With "The," they sound like a group of angry evil monster-pumpkins that will smash in your face. That's cooler.

Agreed, but it's not really difficult to ascertain the fact that you should just drop "the" from the name if you're all that concerned about getting the name-on-release correct.

"Earphoria" was originally released under the name Smashing Pumpkins, and then some dumb graphic artist changed it in 2002 without making sure to make the binding and cover consistent with one another.
