View Full Version : Zeitgeist digital vs. Zeitgeist cd.
ckeegan 07-12-2007, 08:29 PM I wasn't too impressed with the new album when I first heard it on spinner.com (in fact, I hated it). HOWEVER, I bought the cd version today and pumped it through my car stereo...what a difference! The album was clearly made to be listened to on cd, through speakers that expand the sound space. It makes the mix less flat, and minimizes the annoyance of the "Baker-style" vocal layers.
Pomp and Circumstances, however, is still an abomination.
Future Boy 07-12-2007, 08:29 PM Theyre both digital.
Dogfighter28 07-12-2007, 08:32 PM Sucks on any format but live
Dmitri 07-12-2007, 09:07 PM It's best played on gramophone for the ultimate indie experience.
Mablak 07-12-2007, 09:09 PM You've got it wrong, you really have to listen to it in MIDI to get anything out of it.

MIDI is for corporate conglomerate mass media megalomaniac devil machines.
Spankarine 07-12-2007, 09:25 PM You have to have your cousin hum it to you via cans-n-string telephone to truly appreciate what the artist was trying to say...

I couldn't say it any better.
agentalbert 07-12-2007, 09:51 PM The cd is horribly compressed and overly loud. Hurts to listen to for long periods of time. I'm hoping the vinyl is better.
i_adore_adore 07-12-2007, 09:58 PM I think it sounds much better on the CD. But still not the greatest. It sounds GOOD, but Billy's vocals are still too forward. I don't mind the layering at all--in fact, I like it a lot! But it's just too separate from the music.
deathrockduck 07-12-2007, 10:03 PM regardless of whether or not it's digital or... digital on cd, IT IS THE WORST PUMPKINS RECORD FOR PRIVATE HEADPHONE LISTENING.
especially if you've got GOOD headphones. you can hear all the shitty vocal overdubs crystal clear.
Steve Holt 07-12-2007, 10:37 PM The cd is horribly compressed and overly loud. Hurts to listen to for long periods of time. I'm hoping the vinyl is better.
wow! yet another audio engineer here on Netphoria!

Define compression, making use of the terms ratio, threshold, attack, release. Describe the sound of compression, using the terms attack, release, pumping, breathing. At what point does compression become limiting? What is the difference between compression, limiting and clipping?

Of course. Do ppl expect they'd mix/master to MPx?
When are people going to learn that lossy (< CD quality) downloaded formats are complete shit and reject 'em?
You have to have your cousin hum it to you via cans-n-string telephone to truly appreciate what the artist was trying to say...
LOL, that's great!

Give the guy a couple hours on Wikipedia and he might be able to.
Or maybe not.
Revenant 07-14-2007, 10:32 AM Sucks on any format but live
You suck on any format especially live you pug fucker.
nagroc77 07-14-2007, 11:45 AM You suck on any format especially live you pug fucker.
Hey let's not be too harsh on him. He's probably listening to that rocking audsbd version!
harrison6 07-14-2007, 12:20 PM The cd was def an improvement over the leak quality...in spite of whether or not you "like" the songs.
Fattening Ass 07-14-2007, 10:45 PM yeah this album sounds like ass. I wish it didn't tho, its a decent release.
gbeaks33 07-15-2007, 01:37 AM I dunno I like the layering on the new album, but I seriously think there is a problem with the lyrics. They don't seem to fit with many of the songs. Either too loud or too quiet, or just not mixed right, I can't tell.
Also, I really like Pomp and Circumstance. I am the only one?
Fattening Ass 07-15-2007, 01:53 AM probably
that song and for god and country suck balls.
and whats with jimmy using this specialty snare on doomsday clock?:

dudehitscar 07-15-2007, 02:44 AM pomp and circumstances is the best song on the album.
Yeah I finally bought the album and the cd sounded a lot better coming out of my car speakers. In fact most of the songs sounded amazing. From Bleeding the Orchid to Neverlost is is phenomenal. Doomsday Clock even sounded a lot better and I can't stand that song.
fluxequalsrad 07-15-2007, 02:49 AM its funny how billy signed on Roy Thomas Baker and was like "LOL I SHUD B FREEDY merCURY LOLOLOL!!!11"
Zeitgeist is best expirienced by contemplating that their cannot be a worse album and hopefully it excorcised alot of billys dumb ass ideas.
Fattening Ass 07-15-2007, 03:31 AM Thats the Way (my LOL is) is the only tune where I don't feel like bolly raped me anally with his voice. All other songs have everything drowned by his voice.
even then its still butt sounding
waltermcphilp 07-15-2007, 03:36 AM someone else referred to that song in a funny way. i shall show it to you now.
That's the Way (i ruin a good album) lol.
Zwan Are Suck 07-15-2007, 03:38 AM the best singing i had ever heard of billy corgan is the song zeitgeist
Fattening Ass 07-15-2007, 03:39 AM i have yet to hear the b-sides/bonus shit

Someone needs to get laid...
dishpan 07-15-2007, 08:49 AM the most noticeable sound quality issue for me, regardless of format, is the opening of doomsday clock. when jimmy comes in, the cymbals sound like complete ASS. even the uncompressed cd in high quality headphones, its all warbly and shit right then. the rest of the album doesnt seem to have that specific problem though as far as i can tell. does this happen for anyone else?
d
Channah 07-15-2007, 08:55 AM Someone needs to get laid...
Shut up.
And yeah dishpan, the cymbals on DC do sound absolutely horrible. I noticed it on the leaked version but I was amazed to hear the same problem on the CD.
Starchildren 07-15-2007, 09:05 AM they sound poor partly because of the filter they used on the kit, and the fact that the cymbals are the first to get affected when they squashed the dynamic range.
its not like that just on DC, its on the whole record.
mccririck 07-15-2007, 09:07 AM wow! yet another audio engineer here on Netphoria!
You dont need to be an audio engineer to realise when the natural dynamics are missing from music. Really, you dont.
