The Zeitgeist has arrived.

No, not that one, but the new album from Billy Corganís Smashing Pumpkins, their first since 2000ís Machina/The Machines of God and debut for Reprise Records. Based on reports from retailers around this still-open-for-business country of ours, Zeitgeist will sell between 140-150k in its first week

Of course it will debut at number 1, unless Interpol gets some massive indie support. Judging by the reviews, it wont.

Wow. Only Mellon Collie got that high.

Mellon Collie has nothing on Snoop Dogg. :smoke:

TI will probably be #1 still.

You know, because RAP is popular and stuff.

Yeah, this is a really good point.

I hope Zeitgeist debuts at #1 because Billy needs a hit. And considering that almost every reviewer has focused more on the Pumpkins history than the album itself, if Zeitgeist isn't a massive smash, then they'll brand it a failure for not selling nearly as many copies as Mellon Collie. Despite the fact that in this day od mp3 downloads, that's simply impossible.

Maybe if they would send people the color they wanted, they would get a hit.

I honestly thought no one would really care about this reunion. I guess more people like SP than I thought.

I guess that's what I get for being a member of the wrong generation...

But yay!

as much as i would like a number 1 debut, i hope it sustains, look at the fragile :erm:
I don't really care about the fragile's numbers.

It is a kick ass album that doesn't really have a single on it, too bad it's sales mind fucked trent.

they are also kinda being shoved down everyone throat via myspace, the kids are watching.

kinda funny that magazines and shit are ignoring it though, watch them be up billy's ass for the next album

That's true. Personally I think it's awesome. I'd much rather have annoying scene kids walking around with SP flag shirts than The Academy Is shirts. I just want SP to get big again so Billy can finally be happy with himself. harharharhahar

Though I may stand alone on that opinion...

I have not seen it pass Icky Thump at #1 on Amazon sellers (just one indication). Was steady at #2 for a while, now hovering #2-#4.

That's because the special edition copy of Zeitgeist is hovering around 70. If these two were combined, I'm pretty sure it would be #1 on Amazon.

pretty sure TI will be tops again. it soled like 450,000 last week. a 50% drop would still beat 160K

Generally how accurate is hitsdailydouble?

Only 150K opening week projection? That's a bit disappointing. I hope they get that 200K mark and No.1 debut.

And then it will drop to 25, then out of the top 100. . . GUARANTEED

I think the gap between TI and SP will be to socioeconomic factors.

A vast segment of those who buy TIs album probably dont own a computer/no internet/or still have dial-up. Thats not an insult to anyone, just kind of a fact that more people that listen to rap are in the lower class. So while those people would be downloading TI for free, they cannot, and they go to the store to buy it.

Wheras, most of the people who arent diehard SP fans simply download the album.

There is the gap in sales numbers (should there be one)

yah, no way it can compete with kelly clarkson and rap music. nobody listens to rock anymore. especially since there is no crossover potential on this album whatsoever.

Two words: Live Earth.

They did really well there and seemed to be well received(note the MSN poll before the link was posted on the board, they were in second place for favorite performance). I'm not saying it's definite, but it's a shot.

it's kinda amazing how much attention they get in magazines over here, given the fact that they didn't do any promo other than the live-shows. the warner rep i met at the nova rock was kind of desparate actually, because billy wouldn't do any kind of media. the only thing billy said was "let the music speak for itself". and still they are on the cover of visions, the most important german music magazine with a multi-page article....they are really lucky, but f there should be another album and they pull the same no-promo-shit again i think we will not see them on any coversany more...

I was looking for this thread earlier, I'm glad it got bumped up. I just wanted to know when do the #'s come out?

A number 1 album would be great.

We'd almost definitely see another album then.

You are correct about that, i do some rap videos for some people who barely speak English and from the words that I understand that come out of their mouth (not many) its usually...

"I gots the internet, ah, well my boyz, suposed to pay da cable bill but na, i don't have internet right now"

so yeah I can see TI actually selling albums, but if they measure the TI album by how many albums are actually missing off store shelves it will already be triple platinum.
