So WTF happened with this show? There was supposed to be a pre-sale for this, but now it says "Currently not on sale".

Additional Information:
This event will be moving to a different venue - New venue and Onsale date is TBA

Well they had chosen a shitty venue to begin with. Let's hope they don't go to Coors, because they won't come close to a sellout. Humphrey's By the Bay would be good, or even Sports Arena.

I fucking hate Coors Amphitheater. Cox Arena would be good unless they're set on an outdoor venue.

They're probably vying for the SDSU outdoor amphitheater like in '00... that place is nice, but I hate the lack of GA... so sparse.

I'm all for embarcadero - cool location, and you really don't have to pay if you don't want to be close.

I don't know what you're talking about. I saw Radiohead at the Embarcadero last year and it was great - a beautiful venue literally on the water (people were pulling up in their boats alongside to watch the show). And it's all GA, which means the closest "seats" go to the fans who arrive early, not the contest winners or moneybags who have $150 to blow on a single ticket.

In fact, now that the venue is changing, I may skip San Diego altogether and hope for a closer show (i.e. LA).

July 12, 2007 - Phoenix and San Diego

Just to keep a lot of people from freaking out, the Phoenix and San Diego shows had some last minute changes and will be available soon. They did not "vanish" forever. Stay tuned, they will eventually be available for presale.

scalpers frequently post an auction in anticipation before tix go on sale.. assuming that they'll be able to get them.. if someone happens to bid, but they don't get tix, they just cancel the auction or refund the money of the bidder

Ben Linus

Ahhh got ya. Wouldn't the joke be on all of us, if that WAS the venue they were playing, and they just decided to not do the pre-sale.

I know that won't happen, but that would of sucked.

It's in the ghetto and the acoustics are fucking terrible. Humphrey's By the Bay is much better acoustically, and also on the water.

Just to keep you guys updated:

I got a response back from Apple, and they said that we can get a refund for ordering Zeitgeist, should our passwords not be valid later. He wouldn't really give me any details, so at this point...i'm guessing our itunes passwords will still work should they do a pre-sale for the new venue.

Just in case they don't do a pre-sale, keep in mind you can get a refund at this point.

That's weird - I also got a response from iTunes today, though they told me they had no control over anything and I would have to go through Ticketmaster (who of course told me the other day they too could do nothing). Maybe I emailed the wrong department? Did he tell you exactly HOW we could get a refund if our passwords don't work?

Heres the message I got:

Dear ********,

I understand that the Smashing Pumpkins show in San Diego has been temporarily postponed. I know how frustrating this must be, especially since that's the only show you might get to attend. I am really sorry that this has happened, and even more deeply apologetic that there is nothing I can do to rectify the situation. I am going to turn you over to some links that you can use to contact Ticketmaster. They will be able to answer your questions more effectively and may even be able to provide a solution.

* I realize you preordered the album with the hope of seeing them live in concert. If you would still like to be refunded for the album, please respond with this request. *

Now here is some information for getting in touch with Ticketmaster. They want it to be clear that tickets and seating are not guaranteed and are governed by Ticketmaster terms:

http://www.ticketmaster.com/h/purchase.html

Please check back at Ticketmaster.com for updates and additional Pre-Sale dates. To get your tickets, simply go to the Ticketmaster.com website.

Ticketmaster U.S. venues:

*** For technical issues with the code or the Ticketmaster website, please contact Ticketmaster:

Ticketmaster U.S. customer service:
http://www.ticketmaster.com/h/help.html?tm_link=tm_home_i_help

If there is nothing that can be done to get you in the San Diego show, please try to see if you can make arrangements to see them in another city. I would hate to see you have to miss out on this opportunity.

Please respond to this email so that I know whether you are requesting a refund and if there's anything else I can do to possibly make you feel better about this unfortunate situation. You are a valued iTunes Store customer and I want you to be satisfied.

Sincerely,

Ryan

no news on when tix are on sale, no pre-sale.. might want to check ticketmaster at 10am just in case, since thats when everything else is going on sale.. maybe they'll get their act together and figure out where the show is going to be by then

actually, itunes claims we can still use our code for this show, so that makes it seem like there will have to be a pre-sale.. so they will likely just save it until the next batch of dates go on sale, whenever that is

The White Stripes just moved their show as well.. (They were playing at the same venue as SP the day before SP).. from their myspace:

Due to noise restrictions and concern from local residents, the venue for the WHITE STRIPES has now changed for the gig in San Diego on September 18th. This show will now take place at Coors Amphitheatre where seating will now be general admission and all tickets purchased for The Embarcadero will be honored at this new venue. Apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused our fans.

Maybe that's where SP will head also? SP in San Diego is now totally gone from ticketmaster.. but pollstar still shows 9/19 TBA san diego at least

yeah i got white stripes tickets for the 18th...Initially i thought i was going to have one bad ass week by seeing TWS and SP one day after the other, but that looks bleak now. I kind of hope SP goes to SOMA or Cox Arena. Now that the residency shows are almost over though i think SOMA is out of the question.

BB aint bad, but its not great. if you dont get the pit, you'll be disappointed. maybe i have high standards, but i've been there enough times to know that it just isn't the same if you aren't in the pit area. i wound up with AA which i got on presale... the best i could find today was D which is even worse. weak

obscured, you're exactly right - I had the DD or something in 2000 and was thinking they'd be amazing tickets - not quite.

Anyways - it's 11:20, and I'm still trying. I'll get double letter sections every few shots, and then it's back to the back row area again. So hit and miss.

A pair of tickets in the pit section anyone? I'll pay more than face value.

i kept trying to better my tickets from the presale this morning. i was on right at 10 and pulled up DD which is where my presale ones were. i kept trying and it kept going back and forth from the single letter areas back down to the double letter area occasionally. i had a set come up that were a little better than the ones i had, but i held off. right about 10:45 i had section CC row E seats 5-7. right dead center to the stage only 5 rows up in the second area. needless to say i bought those. figured i wouldnt get pit (since i saw a whole handful up on scalper sites) but i am more than happy with what i ended up with.

hey now, you don't have to go on and stereotype people like that. that's not cool at all...

So the crowd was lame (like all San Diego crowds) but the show was great. We got the new version of Ava Adore, which was not as metal as the circa 2000 version, but heavier than the Adore era version. That was the only surprise that I can think of.

Total time was about 2 hours 15 minutes.

Here's a setlist off the top of my head (I might be leaving something out):

SuperChrist
Doomsday Clock
Hummer (very surprised to hear this so soon in the set)
BWBW
That's The Way
Drown
Tonite, Tonight
Tarantula
GatGC (sooooo awesome to finally see this new version live!)
1979 (solo Billy acoustic)

United States
Ava Adore (sooo good!)
Starla

Overall, I was very pleased. I thought the band looked really into it. Billy was doing his "jesus moves" and seemed really into it. He was moving around a lot and obviously messed up a couple times, but I think it was because he was having so much fun.... The band has really gotten into a groove. They seem like they've been playing together for years.

I have to say that Lisa's solo in the middle of G&tGC was awesome in a different kinda way... she's totally not a virtuoso, but she has superb touch (I'd like her to touch me, but that's besides the point).

Silverfuck in its original form to begin with was so awesome. Billy and Jeff are amazing together.

One more observation... they weren't as loud as I remember the band being in the past! I don't know if its a new concert regulation to not have bands be too loud or it may have been the venue, which was the Open Air Theater at SDSU and the sound might have escaped as soon as it came out of the speakers? I dunno, but my ears aren't ringing, which I alwasy remember the Pumpkins being the loudest band I ever heard.

I'm slightly drunk off the red wine they served at the show. It was awesome and I never thought 7 years after seeing them in Chicago, the first time I see them again is in San Diego in 2007. Its surreal.

I can't remembr what he said but he said something along the lines of "the hardcore fans the ones that no everything are pretty snobbish and complain alot so this is a great way to show casual fans what the band sounded like before."

Yes, I can confirm. It rocked hard, but like I said, not as "metal" sounding as the 2000 version. I actually liked this version better, only there was no extended jam at the end like the 2000 versions had, which was badass.

Thanks Obscured, yes, they played Bring The Light and Today, but I can't really remember where in the setlist they were.

I should have said, the Pumpkins WERE the loudest band I ever heard (apart from maybe Pantera) but this show was the quietest I've ever heard them.

Here's my short review:

I flew down to Orange County for my birthday, which happened to be the 19th(the date of the San Diego show), so it all worked out great.

My friend and I had great, great seats in section BB, row 5. As someone already said, there really wasn't a bad seat in the place, but the BB section was perfect because it was elevated to the exact height of the stage in addition to it being in the center.

The crowd, I thought, was pretty good. Much better than L.A. crowds. They were surprisingly appreciative and loud when responding to the new songs, and when the old classics came out they roared. Guitar solos were cheered, the encore applause was consistent, and Billy even mentioned that he was humbled by the response all night.

The lighting rigs they used were just incredible... by far the best I've seen of any show I've ever been to. The programmed transitions worked very well with every song.

The sound was FANTASTIC. I say this because it wasn't, as someone has said already, as loud as shows of old. I'm not sure if it was the venue, or what, but I really enjoyed it this way because I could actually hear what Billy was singing!

The band seemed to be in really, really good moods. I was anxious about this because I had read that Billy stormed off stage from the Arizona show. At one point he specfically said that they had a lot of songs they wanted to play for us tonight, which was received well by the crowd. There was a decent amount of stage banter, too, which I hadn't read about from previous shows on this tour. The banter ranged from Billy just generally talking to the crowd about whatever, to Billy asking Ginger to speak Spanish again(which she eventually did much to the roar of the crowd), to making fun of Jeff by saying he had to leave early due to his Leer jet departing for L.A.(which drew boos from the crowd and subsequently made Billy laugh pretty hard). Billy laughed and smiled quite a bit compared to other shows I've seen or read about from this latest tour, and his screams were pretty long and passionate. He stuck around for quite a bit after the show waving to the crowd and smiling.

I enjoyed the setlist a lot. On first glance, it seems a bit short. But when you consider that a lot of those songs were really long jams, it's not really an issue. And besides, 19 songs is huge compared to most bands. Some small points of interest about the songs:

-Ava Adore was certainly an exciting surprise! The whole crowd roared. It was a lot more aggressive than years past... Jimmy's drumming was different in it and had a lot more attack and bite which made the song feel fresh. It started with a quiet intro, almost angelic, and then tore into the "IT'S YOU THAT I ADORE" part. The song also ended with the new angelic part. It was reworked quite well, and I hope they play it again when I see them up here in Washington for the Ridgefield show tomorrow.

-Heavy Metal Machine was just... jaw-dropping. It was extremely long, maybe the longest song of the night, which is saying something considering Silverfuck and United States were played. I really loved when he screamed "YOU THOUGHT I WASN'T COMING BACK? YOU DIDN'T KNOW ME AT ALL," or something to that effect. Really passionate screaming, and the whole band was moving their bodies to the music pretty aggressively.

-First time hearing Hummer live, and it was just as amazing as I could have wished for.

-Drown sounded much better than when I had heard it in 2000... in fact, the guitar tone for that song last night was just beautiful. Rich, clean and well performed.

-The crowd absolutely loved Tarantula... screamed throughout the whole thing, especially after the middle solo, which caused Billy to laugh quite a bit and walk up to the front of the stage and bow before going back behind the mic and starting the song up again.

-Doomsday clock sounds so much better live... it reminds me of Dross.

-The lighting for United States and Heavy Metal Machine was brilliant... just brilliant!

-Liz's keyboard effects during the long intro to Heavy Metal Machine are amazingly perfect. So, so much better than any one else they've ever had on keyboards in the past. I'm so glad she's in the band.

So yeah, really great show, and a really great birthday present to myself. I can't wait for Ridgefield tomorrow!

sweetanthony
09-20-2007, 11:36 AM
Reyngel, good points! I have to admit that part during Heavy Metal Machine towards the end when he was screaming, "You thought I wasn't coming back!?" and so on... was the best part of the song, easily a highlight of the night.

--1979 acoustic might have been the best part of the show. Billy didn't play much guitar near the end of the song, it was just him and us singing. Everyone knew the words and it gave me chills. I actually never heard that good of a sing-a-long at a Pumpkins' concert. Priceless

- Glass & the Ghost Children was my favorite "new song" (by a smidge). Its just sooooo amazing now. The opening is fuckin' funky as shit, the opening dual guitar solos are amazing, Lisa's solo was fresh in a "anti-Mike Garson" kinda way, which was not goth at all (good thing).... and the "And she counted the spiders" outro-part was so good, it was Drown-like in its heaviness and progression, but really, there's no words to describe it.

-Tarantula was leaps and bounds more awesome to me than I ever felt before. And yes, the whole crowd went CRAZY for this song. Especially during the Billy solo before the "real as any ghost" part.

-IMO, Doomsday Clock was lackluster and the crowd wasn't into it at all. ON THE OTHER HAND, the crowd loved Bring the Light, which I was surprised at.

-Seeing United States live was great. I have such a deep appreciation for this song as a real work of great musicianship. Jimmy is a god.

-Muzzle was perfect. Nuff said.

New here. I have a ton of videos from this show and some have some good sound that I'm converting into mp3s if anyone would like them. I'll let you know what I have.

As everyone else has said, this was an awesome show and out of the 30 concerts or so I've been to this year it has stood out as the best. I was seat in the last seat stage right and still had a great vantage point

Great to read all the positive reviews! I'm happy the crowd was into Tarantula... crowds these days need to get more into things, especially a killer song like that. The song is like a roller coaster, with the killer drumming and solos and changes in dynamics

Looks like I didn't get Ava. It was one of the videos that didn't save. Same thing happened with Silverfuck.

But the videos I did get (and you'll want the mp3s instead) are 1979, Bullet, Starla, Tonight Tonight, Today, To Sheila, and United States

I agree that the sound wasn't as loud as normal and the sound quality was amazing. I could hear every word clearly when he was singing. I felt that the sound quality was much better than it was the Fllmore.

Heh, I love that bit. I like how he adlibs it a bit too from performance to performance. Enjoyed the boots I've heard where it ends in "But we all needed a little more cash.... NnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnNNNNNNEEEAAAOO!"

ugh! Bring the Light, Perfect, Ava!! This is awesome! I wonder what else they'll bust out before the Normal show!

Now that I say that I bet they won't play any of those three in Normal XD Oh well...

I'm so glad Billy seemed happy! wooo

When you hear it you won't say anything except, fuck yeah! The intro and outro was heavenly and the song rocked, IMO the greatest fusion of live Adore era version and any version with Jimmy. Plain and simple, its awesome.

The show was pretty awesome..mostly.

Drown <3
Ava Adore <3
Muzzle <3

But..I mean, no Zero, Disarm, Stand Inside Your Love or Cherub Rock!
I'd have taken either of those over that disgustingly boring Glass+The Ghost Children and whatever that awful rendition of Heavy Metal Machine was.

EDIT: What was the first song they played? At first, I thought it was like a shotened version of United States...not sure why.

I wanna speak german... I'm thinking of taking two german classes next year instead of continuing with Spanish. I'm not going to become fluent in Spanish with the time I have left in school anyway. Might as well be able to say "The dog eats the potato" in two foreign languages.

Sorry, off topic...

It sounds awesome.

personally I think Spanish is one of the most beautiful sounding languages ever when people speak it properly... French sometimes is (when Melissa Auf der Maur speaks french it sounds beautiful, but sometimes it just seems ugly and weird). But Spanish is where it's at. It's sooo pretty-sounding. And very easy to read/pronounce and understand because it's latin-based. The biggest problem with Spanish is all the crazy verb forms... six forms for every verb, and that's just in the present tense. I haven't even learned past tense yet, or future... or anything. Crazy.

ahhh it was just awesome..muzzle made my night complete <3

the only irritating thing were the stupid drunk gross people to our left that kept insisting that those were their seats but they werent, so instead of leaving to find their seats they stood on ours then wedged themselves in between me and my friends then proceeded to make out and take up more space. yuck, it was kind of a mood killer for the first bit of the show cause they kept moving and being obnoxious, but they disappeared later thank god.

so were you able to tape?No Audio, had to take the MD back to the car. I was told that all cameras were ok but a staff told me no taping of the whole show, just 1 min at most. I tried to argue but he told me I could be kicked out, so I did what i could and tried to make it look like I was taking pics, while I was filming. I missed a few songs and songs were cut, and the video goes up and down but overall i got a good amount. Even a day later i think it was a great show!

Just read one persons review on the official site and they mentioned a “Funny comment from Billy about having many children and many wives...” For those of you there what was the funny comment and did he have anymore banter during the show? (I don’t why but I do like his witty and oftentimes dumb banter).

He was thanking everyone for coming to the show and said something along the lines of "May God bless you... with many children... and wives." Ginger laughed and then asked him if he said "wives" but he told her he couldn't understand her unless she spoke in Spanish. She asked him again a couple times in English but he acted like he couldn't understand her. This was right before the clip of them speaking Spanish in the youtube video.

AMAZING show! When they started to play Hummer, it was one of the most surreal experiences ever.

I got there early and when they came out of the bus, there was some girl (i think it was a girl) waiting there and Billy came over and they talked. They hugged each other too. It was the cutest thing. So, I could have met him, but I'm a shy, sissy pants.

I listened to them soundcheck Ava Adore and Bring the Light. Those were WAY rocking.

Jeff's parents were close to me. They're so cute.

Tonight, Tonight was beautiful + To Sheila & + That's the Way. The lights looked awesome.

Best concert ever? Why yes, yes it was.

Remember guys, Billy and Jimmy are old. I'm not surprised that the shows haven't been 3 hours lately.
Billy said after the 4th or so song, that the next one would be their last one because they're getting old. Haha

I was at the San Diego show also but have been unable to get online for the last three weeks. I didn't even know that San Diego was the first time they'd played Ava Adore. What every one else has failed to mention is that Billy played about eight bars of By Starlight before going into the rhythmic Ava Adore riff. To say it was fucking awesome would be an understatement.
