So I got 4 General Admission tickets for Pittsburgh, but it says G06 for the row. Ticketmaster says there are seats on the floor, but the lady at the Palumbo center says they got an email saying General Admission is standing only for this event.
Does anyone know what is going on? I'm thinking G06 is just another code for General Admission. Based on the seating chart, G06 doesnt exist.

So why even assign tickets as "G01" thru "G06" or whatever?
Must just be another dumb ticketmaster thing.
Also, just some general info about AJ Palumbo, for those of you wondering about the way it sounds. Back in 2003 when, for whatever reason, I liked Coldplay, I saw them there. It's actually not bad. Very loud, lots of reverb (because of the size). It's not the best venue in the world but it's certainly better than something like the Mellon Arena, for sure.

If it's all General Admission and there are no seats, why is there different pricing on the tickets.
Ticketmaster said tickets range from $47.50-$57.50....
I chose "best available" and was charged with the $57.50 tickets. I don't care about the cost, but I'm just curious as to why there is a range in pricing if it's all standing.

Smashing Pumpkins sets Pittsburgh concert
Monday, July 09, 2007
By Scott Mervis, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Alternative rock fans have something to look forward to when the summer concert season dies down.
The Smashing Pumpkins, a '90s powerhouse back with the new album "Zeitgeist," will return to the A.J. Palumbo Center on Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
The band, having just played the Live Earth concert in New York on Saturday, will launch its first full-scale North American tour since 2000 in the fall. It's not a complete Pumpkins reunion. Frontman Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin are on board, but guitarist James Iha and bassist D'Arcy are replaced by Jeff Schroeder and Ginger Reyes.
Reserved seat tickets are $47.50 and general admission tickets are $57.50 in advance. There is an eight-ticket limit per customer. Tickets go on sale on Saturday at 10 a.m. at LiveNation.com. Tickets also available at Ticketmaster.com, Ticketmaster outlets including select Giant Eagle locations, or Charge-By-Phone at 412-323-1919. Service, parking and handling fees apply to all ticket prices.

Does the A.J. Palumbo Center have a big open floor? (Is that what a General Admission Ticket is?)
... One reason I was thinking of coming to Pittsburgh (instead of Detroit) is that Detroit's venue is all seats... there's no open floor. I really want to hang out in a pit :)
Would the show in Pittsburgh satisfy me more than the one in Detroit?

I got tickets to the show in Pittsburgh. I've never been to the A.J. Palumbo Center before, but from what I gather, General Admission tickets are standing in the Pits, everything else is actual seating.
I got 3 General Admission tickets through the itunes pre-sale thing on Thursday. I think that by now, Pit tickets would be pretty hard to get a hold of.

Actually, you don't really know the whole story and are unnecessarily scaring people. I was at Duquesne the night of the shootings. First, it was after a dance, not a concert, and it wasn't even at the AJ Palumbo center. It was put on by the black student union up on campus, and the shooting itself occurred elsewhere on campus. It was a very isolated incident, one student helped the non-student gunmen get into the dance and target the basketball players (no random people). Plus, the shooters were from Penn Hills, which is 10 miles away, and had no other reason to be there.
So, the shooting should have nothing to do with the AJ Palumbo center. Yes, the Hill district is a bad neighborhood, but it shouldn't affect the show.

It started out just as an organ intro, which was pretty cool. Then he sang with just the organ until about halfway through the song, when Jeff, Jimmy, and Ginger came in (I think). There were a few short, melodic solos and there was a good bit of chord picking in it. It was a really nice arrangement of the song, plus the solos at the end were pretty well-done, too.

Some girl was handing out pumpkins cookies. I ate one. I was afraid I would be tripping on acid the rest of the night. I may have been.
Anyhow, it was the old 1979 acoustic into Perfect acoustic. The crowd was pretty good. When they played Home I nearly shit my pants, but Set the Ray really did it for me the hardest.
The opening band was pretty gay. Someone yelled "You suck!" nice and loudly, which I followed up with a good "Yeah!"

During 1979 a friend and I lit lighters and felt weird cause we were only 2 out of like..5 people maybe that lit them in that section.
here are two REALLY short videos I took, overall the concert was GREAT. The opening act...umm..I kinda tuned them out after they mentioned they were playing a song called "EVERY WORD YOU SAY MAKES ME WANT TO TAKE A KNIFE TO MY HEAD" or something....I just stared at the lighting. lol.

I got my digital camera in. It had audio and video and I have some really decent Audio recordings of 1979, Tonight Tonight, Perfect, and Stand Inside your Love.
It went like this:
Security guard: Empty out your pockets
Me [oh no..]: Ummmm..I don't think theres anything in them that will set off the metal detector
Guard: You still have to empty them.
Me: *stares at him...* Ugh. Ok.
Me: *puts cell phone, wallet, lighter, keys, in bucket and PRAYS his digital camera does not set off the detector*
Me: *slips past without a problem and receives my items.
It was really easy to get a camera in. :)
I'll put it in a .rar file and upload it if anyone wants it..only problem is that you can hear my friends and I talking a bit in it. The start of perfect you can hear me say "Are we still lightering?" because everyone put out their damn lighters and we talked like the whole way through 1979 because we couldnt LIGHT out lighters. The talking makes the audio more special to us..but I don't know about you guys lol. You can't hear much of us during ava adore, TOnight tonight, or Stand Inside your love...I think you hear a couple "OMFG"'s ...thats it! haha

Last night was great! Got there about at about 2 and met some great folks in line. That's almost always a highlight of these shows. The wait till the gates went by pretty quick. We couldn't really hear the soundcheck well though the local radio station had some contest in which about 15 people went in for the soundcheck and a meet and greet. Unfortunately I wasn't one of those people. A couple people in line said what they thought were some of the soundcheck songs but I forget what they had said other than they thought they heard Where Boys Fear To Tread.
Being that there were only about 10 people in front of me and my friend in line, I was able to get front row center. Was excellent getting first row obviously. Everything was fantastic up there except for not hearing Billy's vocals very well. Billy's guitar drowned most everything out where we were at.
That setlist was amazing. I am really glad we got to hear Pomp and Circumstances and so glad to hear Set the Ray to Jerry. Like other people have said, Home sounds different than when I heard it earlier this year in Asheville. Other highlights from the set: Cherub Rock, 1979, Perfect and Bring the Light (love the extended end of this song!).
As folks have said, Billy talked a bit about the Steelers and Terry Bradshaw though I couldn't hear him too well from our spot. My buddy noted that he talked about the Steelers and Bradshaw right before 1979, one of their Super Bowl years. Amazingly, the crowd wasn't much of a Steeler crowd though. There was just one failed attempt at a "here we go steelers" chant during the night that I heard.
The crowd seemed to be good where we were at. There was a lot of pushing and shoving at various points but nothing too bad. Security was continually blocking people's views and standing up to look out into the crowd. Thankfully, my spot was not one of those blocked.
After the show, some of us talked and took pictures with Ginger and Lisa. I don't think anyone saw Billy, Jimmy or Jeff come out to greet the fans. So glad to get a pic with Ginger. Was amazed how little and frail seeming she was right next to us.
Looking forward to Thursday's Columbus show but sad that appears to be my last show on this tour.

It was really easy to get a camera in. :).
I thought they were allowing non-professional cameras? Though they did originally said no cameras at all. I took mine in, they saw it and didn't stop me and I got some good shots.

yeah, i was planning to get rid of the cookies, but i only got rid of 2.5/4 boxes. most people looked at me strangely and said no thank you, like i was trying to slip them drugs. one kid asked me if there was "something special" in them; i said, "unfortunately not".
that's awesome you brought those - i woulda had one but had just eaten before I saw you with them

I called the venue three times and asked about taking recording devices, digital cameras, whatever, and the lady told me no each time.
I don't understand though..because on the pumpkins website they allow you to upload videos/photos/audio from the show..so doubleU Tee Eff.

The Pittsburgh show was great, although I had a rather bad experience afterwards.
I went to the University of Pittsburgh to go to Primanti's and see my girlfriend and I parked in the Soldiers and Sailors Garage... and the garage locked up at 12 with my car in it... and I had a flight back to Chicago at 6:20 in the morning and no way to get to the airport.. So I called a cab to pick me up from my house at 4:30 and it never showed up. So I've missed 2 classes today and a 6:20 flight. I hate my life.
I got there at about 1 o clock and there were 5 people infront of us. I drove by the night before and there was a guy who spent the night there. The line got pretty long eventually, but it wasn't as packed as I had expect it to be. I passed out Blue Zeitgeist stickers from the street team, and everyone was pretty happy. I saw the girl with the cookies, but I had had my own so I passed. An acid trip would have been nice though.
But the Pumpkins were great! I was in the front row center against the railing, and like someone mentioned, there was a bit of pushing and shoving but nothing too bad for the amount of people there. The security had a bad habit of standing up right infront of my buddy on my left, but it was a great spot anyway.
Billy played the crowd the same ways he always does, and when Jimmy came out to play Perfect the crowd chanted his name and you could tell he loved it. Ginger worked her bass like the sexy woman she is and Jeff was over in his own "zone" for most of the show. They all seemed in good spirits. At one point Billy came back on stage and startled Ginger and you could see them laughing about it to each other.
Highlights were United States, Drown, Home, Set the Ray, Rocket, 1979, P&C, and of course Cherub Rock.
My only gripe was that I'd have rather had something like Hummer or Starla instead of the new HMM. My friend who is a casual fan loved it, but to me it just seemed like they could put another song or 2 in its place instead.
And the lighting was AMAZING. It reminded me of Close Encounters.
edit: and the lies were burnt off my soul and I was indeed crushed in the dust.

avsfan, i was right beside you on your right - did i hear you right that you scheduled your semester with tuesdays off so you could make this show? - if so, that is freaking awesome
did you have peoples arms holding the rail on both your left and right? i did so it was like i had these little bumpers as i was rocking out
i agree about the band being in good spirits

I was there too guys and I am still pumped! It was an awesome show. I was in the Pit almost in the front row. The last time I saw the Pumpkins my seats were in the nose bleed section of the Bryce Jordan Center, so as much as I loved that show, this one was much more enjoyable. Billy looked great. Jimmy looks healthier than he has in years and as much as I hate to admit it Jeff and Ginger are pretty good replacements. I'm already looking forward to another album, just so there's another tour....LOL

i got the pictures developed guys. unfortunately i didn't have enough cash today to get them put on discs. a good bit of them came out blurry, but i also got some excellent ones. the pictures i got of billy and jimmy talking and laughing together before 1979 made it all worth it.
yeah, i don't know, this lady came up to me and was checking out my camera, and she was like, "is that for personal use?" and i was like "yeah..." and she was like, "are you sure?" i was like, "yes, i'm sure..." she told me it's her job to ask, because they don't want anybody with the press and/or magazines to come in with cameras. understandable.
i didn't think you weren't allowed to bring cameras in. when i got to the metal detector, it went off, and i was kind of nervous because i had to ditch the rest of my cookies, but i had a box in my bag because i wanted to give them to billy. so they were like, "he has to search your bag" and i'm thinking "oh shit", but the cop looked in, smiled and said, "you're lucky i checked your bag", smiled, and waved me in with my camera and cookies.
i didn't get a chance to give the cookies to billy personally. i was scrambling to get them out when he was in front of me, saying goodbye to the crowd, but i couldn't get them out quick enough. i caught one of the stage crew members afterwards and he was real cool; it was the guy with his hair pulled back in a bun. he told me he would make sure billy got the cookies.

oooh, controversy
just kidding, glad you had fun autumn! In Asheville my friend and I had a bunch of leftovers from a pizza place (I think it was called the Magic Mushroom or something? It was definately psychodelic-themed)... we went right to the Orange Peel from there and tried to give away 1/2 a pizza and 1/2 a sub in line, but absolutely no one would take it. I ended up throwing it away.
Was that on the 5th?? I remember people giving away pizza in line a few minutes before they opened the doors

Pumpkins concert: Some 'Today,' some yesterday
By Michael Machosky
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Wednesday, October 10, 2007
I haven't thought about Smashing Pumpkins in 10 years, at least. But a big part of my misspent youth had "Gish" (1991) and "Siamese Dream" (1993) as a soundtrack, so when they came to the A.J. Palumbo Center last night, I was curious to see if the band was anywhere near as great as I remember.
(For those without this personal history -- Smashing Pumpkins were the band with the bald, gangly albino-looking dude whose screechy, nasal voice always sounded like it came through a mile-long nostril. Ah, yes, Billy Corgan -- an acquired taste, but one acquired by a lot of people my age.)
After a thoroughly pedestrian opening set from alt-rock also-rans The Bravery, the Pumpkins took the stage to an interminable rolling barrage of drums, and an ultra-expensive lighting rig of triangular flashing lights that looked like an Atari game on the fritz. Then Corgan started wailing the word "Revolution" like it still means something, before interjecting a mangled guitar solo deconstructing "The Star-Spangled Banner." You know, like Hendrix did nearly 40 years ago, except without the audacity and skill.
Just when I'm starting to remember why I began to hate these guys, they launch into the shimmering intro to "Today" from "Siamese Dream," and I'm lost in a time-warp, ever so briefly.
And so it went -- durable alterna-pop classics sharing space with ever-longer experiments in semi-coherent pretension, bombast and inarticulate angst. The early songs seem to have aged well. Unfortunately, they haven't uncovered any useful hooks since that annoying "rat in a cage" song.
One surprise was the large amount of fresh-faced teenagers present. Somebody's still listening, Billy, even if my/yours/our generation isn't.
They say that those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it. For now, I guess that *******s me.

God, I've been making fun of that singer the entire time since the show. He flails around like a complete moron, his singing blew, he sang the same way for every song, he's annoying, his band is a rip off of the Killers, his voice is an insult to Robert Smith because of how poorly he imitates him, and finally I think that singer's mother is a whore. I hereby formally declare a challenge to him in the form of fisticuffs.

Yeah, I was disappointed at first that we got The Bravery and not Explosions in the Sky, but I think I was really able to enjoy the Pumpkins more because I didn't like the opening band as much. After seeing EITS play right before SP at the Virgin Festival in Toronto, I was more impressed with EITS.
Although, I also feel like I like The Bravery more than a lot of other bands that could have opened, so I think I was actually satisfied with their performance.

it's kind of a lame song.
it was way better live than on the disc.
the recording is kind of silly, but live, it was....well, boring. not as boring as half-arsed joan jett singalong, but there are hundreds of songs i would've rather heard.

I'm real angry that there are no pomp recordings.
my favorite zeitgeist song... I'm so so glad they've finally played ittt!
Though I was imagining it as more of a Lisa on keyboard & Billy with an acoustic guitar quiet sort of thing, and from what I can gather from this thread it didn't end up that way. Oh well. I like surprisessss!

It was basically Lisa on keys with Jimmy giving a beat and the rest of them coming in for the chorus. Billy's guitar solo was especially great. I like the album version, but I thought this was really cool to see live, and they actually pulled it off. I'm glad they saved it for Pittsburgh.

oh, awesome! I loved how they did "Death from Above" live, but I'm not a fan of the recording. I was hoping for a similar execution of "Pomp," in the sense that DFA got simplified and stripped down.

I'm serious.
When set the ray to jerry was played in Detroit there were posts everywhere about it, including the general chat forum.
I thought that since it wasn't mentioned or discussed the pumpkins had it on their pomp + circumestance on their pittsburgh setlist but decided not to play it (like they did in detroit) but then I went to the spfc.org where it confirms that they played it. I'm really interested to hear how they arranged the song since there so many polyphonic voices on the record.
Why the hell are there only two people who actually give a damn about this? There are song video clips of this concert on Youtube already but you've got to wonder what these people were thinking!! "I think I'll record 'today' instead 'pomp + circumstance' because there aren't already a million videos of this song on youtube already" YEESSH!!
