Colorado people are pretty cool but there are douche bags here just like everywhere else.
As far as Red Rocks go, it is amazing and it will be amazing to see the Pumpkins play there, there is a reason that so many cd's and dvd's are released after being recorded at Red Rocks.

We got 2 "best available" seats (turned outo to be the end of row 29) I am a bit disappointed that the first 20 (and last 10) rows are GA. Oh well, at least I wont have to wait in line all day to get a seat.
Red Rocks is amazing, best large venue in the world. However, the weather in Colorado in late September is anybodys guess, could be beautiful, could be snow. What idiot plans outdoor shows in late September in Colorado! (I was at a Fiddler's Green show in early October in 1999 and about froze my ass off (as did the band))
EDIT: As of 6:30p there are still presale tickets available, better seats than I got originally!!! ARGH!

UPDATE: CO people can't be that cool if there's no complaining/controversy over not being able to get tickets and whatnot, allowing this thread drop to almost dead last in such a short time...
But this makes me curious... are there any other big cities that filter in to Red Rocks for shows, or is it mostly Colorado locale? Am I going to be the only one flying in?
If so, weird, but heck that sounds alright. L.A. sucks having to fight for tix and seats and such.
ALSO: Since my gf and I will be in Denver that Sat. to Mon., any suggestions for places to visit? or eat? I'll do a lot of research myself, but I'd like to know what anyone here suggests.

I don't think that there is a huge SP fan base in Colorado, there is a fan base but not one that inclues many netphorians.
As far as good places to visit or eat I can't help much for Denver but if you want to drive down the road to Colorado Springs I've got some suggestions if you are interested.
Maybe you should make a post dedicated to this. I am sure a lot of ans would like to win this.

Alrighty, I got my tickets today. They list the Section/Aisle as GA, but then say Row GA2, Seats 13&14. Anyone know if this is just a system to keep track of how many seats they've sold, or what? I take it I'm still gonna have to get there early for seating as good as this. (Also, under Admission, it lists ITUNES.)
Anyway, ya I'm excited. I'm seeing them at the Filmore on the 30th, but still, Red Rocks sounds awesome.

It's not looking good, you can still get tickets in row 44, that means theres about 10+ more reserved rows to sell and there are still GA tickets available. I am a bit surprised it didn't sell out, but then again I think it one of the larger (if not largest) venue on the tour.

See you all at Red Rocks!
The venue is amazing, for those who will be seeing their 1st show there. Your tickets will indicate seat #s and such on GA tix, but they mean nothing. Rows 25-50 are always reserved at Red Rocks because that's where the acoustics are best, but if your ticket say GA you can go in front of the reserved block or behind, depending on how many people you want to fight with for your personal space. It's going to be an awesome show :D

I can't wait for this. The Pumpkins got the last date before Red Rocks closes for the year and opens again in the spring. I'm glad it's a Sunday so I can spend all day there, listen to them rehearse from the gates and secure a solid GA spot in line.

The Cure play there the following Tuesday (October 2.)
I'm not shocked that this hasn't sold out, and I doubt that it will. Perhaps charging $75 or whatever it is after fees wasn't such a great idea. Even the Cure are charging less. I suppose I don't have a right to bitch, though. I still haven't even bought the album yet. If it ever comes out on vinyl I'll grab it.
I was much happier buying a two-day pass to Wilco for Labor Day weekend at the Fillmore for $55.

Why would I buy it on cd? I don't listen to cd's. More power to you if you do. Listen to music however you want, everyone has their own preference. I just want them to release the thing on vinyl, and I don't get why there are so many delays. Most bands that I buy release same day. I don't get it.
Look, I'm not here to rain on your parade. I hope that the show is well worth whatever you ended up paying for it. But looking at recent setlists, show reviews, and clips, there's no way I'd walk away satisfied. Plus I have the memories and recordings of the shows I attended in the 90s. That's enough.
Who knows? Maybe this is will be the show where he turns it around. I won't wager $75 that it is.

As a fellow person from Colorado Springs, i'm just going to say that the show probably won't sell out, because, frankly Colorado music fans are lame. The only shows out here that will sell out are bands like 311 and Cake. Ive seen the Pumpkins in 4 states, and they've always had the weakest fan-reaction here in Co. It's pretty sad. Having said that I'll be venturing up there in the early morning to make sure I can nab a good area to take some pics up in GA.

recent email that a friend got about redrocks!
Dear Ticketholder
I checked with the local promoter, and he tells me that recording will be allowed. I'm not sure what the band means by "although we do reserve the right to refuse anyone at anytime". My guess would be if your setup started to look too professional, they might ask you to pack it up. That would be the band's call, not Red Rocks.

Now, it's on. My gf and I arrive in Denver tomorrow.
Anyway, I did a few searches but didn't find an answer: anyone know/have a theory of what the Pumpkins/Red Rocks thinks of camera cameras??? I have a pretty nice Nikon I was thinking of bringing.
I don't know if I'll get any replies before my plane leaves in the morning, but any would be appreciated. I'll see if I can get my hands on a computer once I get there.

If it has a huge lens or is a really big camera in general, your chances are much lower. If it's average size you shouldn't have a problem. Talk to venue security while you're in line and let them know about SP's policy (better yet, print it out and show them: http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/news_1003 ), and also reference the email that Monte posted above in this thread.
Worst case you'd have to leave it in your car (which you may or may not be comfortable doing). Good luck!

friend just called me from Red Rocks and let me hear To Sheila. sounded great. crowd sounded pretty decent and at least him and those around him seemed really into it.
hearing that song in open air venues is always the best. especially a place like RR.
Latinate feminine form of the Roman family name Caecilius, which was derived from Latin caecus "blind". According to legend, Saint Cecilia was a 3rd-century martyr who was sentenced to die because she refused to worship the Roman gods. After attempts to suffocate her failed, she had her head chopped off. She is the patron saint of music and musicians.

Wow I had a great time. Me and my friend walked around the parking lots for 90 minutes or so, met lots of people and got a good buzz going. I liked hearing every other car stereo playing a different pumpkins song; some guys were playing Suffer really loud haha. Anyway we go in and look for the best possible two-person opening, and go in the middle of the 6th row after the Bravery had been on for 20 minutes or so. Unbeknownst to me some fat, blonde bitch who was sitting next to us had been kicking my girl in the ankle until the Bravery ended; she said something like 'jeez I WISH I could have seen the bravery play,' and we moved to a better spot on our left a few feet over. This blonde bitch was going to get it. She clearly didn't give a shit about SP, came with some other friends just to go to any concert- it could've been fall out boy or some shit.
During SP's first 6 songs, she didn't give a hint of admiration or appreciation for the band at all, her eyes were glued to her phone and she was texting the whole time. After Drown I yelled so she could hear me "STOP TEXTING YOU DUMB BITCH! YOU ARE SO FUCKING DISRESPECTFUL!" I was going all out for my first SP show- I sang every lyric to every song, louder than anyone else around me, jumping up and down until I'm sore at the end of the night and my voice is very hoarse. Then the polar opposite of me is this bitch just a few people over who has nothing in common with me, obviously didn't want to at this amazing show, and was kicking my girl. So what did I do? I peed in an empty beer cup, all the way full, and after Cherub Rock and Billy's exit, I dumped it all over her on our way out. Yes, I peed on this bitch and she deserved it, don't tell me you would have done differently.
Heavy Metal Machine was the highlight of the show I think. I really thought Gossamer was coming but instead Billy was cold and they ended with 1 encore by 10:45.

I was two rows behind the soundboard. There were some guys in front of us with some dual mic setups and then a camcorder for video of the whole show. They said they are going to put the show on archive.org. My brother got the setlist from the soundboard guys after the show and they played everything on there except for a second encore of "With every light." Overall I'd give the show a 3.5 outta 5. I was definately expecting more. I did spend over $200 on merch, sorta feel stupid for that. Superchrist was amazing.

This was my 4th SP show and certainly not the best. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it and the sound was amazing. I thought that once warmed up Billy's voice sounded the best of any concert I've been to.
The big disappointment for me was the set-list, which seemed to be more of a "greatest" hits with some stuff for the hard-core fans sprinkled in. The highlights for me were: Hummer, Drown, and To Sheila. I really enjoyed the jams, solos, and wailing guitars.
I was pretty far back so I couldn't really judge if the crowd was really into it or not.
I think that I prefer smaller venues. Billy seems to get into the crowd more at those and vice-versa.
The one song encore was weak (as compared to the Ogden, or Boulder the last times they were in town.)
Anyway, thanks to everyone for smoking up. I got a contact high without blowing cash on my own smokes!

I've seen SP maybe six or seven times, and this was definitely the shortest show. I'm not sure if the altitude + dry air + temperature was getting to their hands and/or voices and they decided to call it quits, or if they are just going with shorter setlists these days to preserve Bill's voice.
Highlights were definitely Drown and Hummer. I've listened to lots of versions of Doomsday Clock from this tour, and I thought this was the best one I've heard. Bring the Light had a short interlude towards the end that I don't remember being on the album (although I've probably only listened to it 10 times or so). I thought it really added dynamic to the song to bring it from average to pretty damn good. Lisa's keyboard interlude/solo during GATGC is bad...just real bad....worse than any of MG's (that I've heard). Jimmy was playing the intro the GATGC and totally just lost grip on one of his sticks....it flew back...he grabbed another one, but Billy looked at him like he had just turned into an alien or something. Pretty funny.

Lapis and I went to Phil Lesh & Friends at Red Rocks on Saturday. It was both of our first times at the venue, and WOW were we blown away! There really is no place like it. Certainly the best outdoor venue I've ever been to, and I doubt that any other place besides the Gorge in Washington even comes close.
So, it was a great night, and it got us ready for the Pumpkins which was to come the next day! (see next post...)

If it wasn't the best SP show of the year, it was still probably the most enjoyable day leading up to the show!
Lapis, Monte, and I arrived at 9:15AM. We were #6,7,8 in line. The first person had arrived at 6AM I think. Very nice people (Holly, "D", Bruce, Jen, Morgan) -- if any of you are reading this post on here or send me a PM!
The weather and scenery could not have been more perfect. We got to sit waiting all day enjoying views like this:
The entire amphitheatre is open to the public all day. A lot of joggers came up and down the steps, and there were plenty of people taking in the views. We got to walk all around the seating area and watch the stage being set up, which is very cool. The staff was so friendly and laid back. Again, there is no other venue like this, from the bottom...
We were able to see Billy entering the venue with Gio about 2:15PM.
Just before 3PM the soundcheck started. We were all shocked and thrilled to hear SP covering U2's "Sunday, Bloody Sunday"! It's a shame they only played about 1.5 minutes of it! After that we got to hear Bring the Light, Untitled (up until the big solo), Ava Adore (various parts rehearsed several times), Home (played over and over, probably close to 25 minutes of this), and Heavy Metal Machine (over 30 minutes of playing with various jam parts). The long soundcheck went from about 2:55 to 4:30! We could hear The Bravery soundchecking a bit later, but they weren't as loud.
The friendly security gave out some inflatable Pumpkins for us to decorate and hang on the gates. Jen wrote out "S-M-A-S-H-I-N-G" on top of the Pumpkins, and the 5 band members' names on the bottoms. Here's the first one:
Another line started to form on a different path into the venue. None of those people were there as early as us, but the way it was set up, they had a good chance of beating us in if we didn't hurry. They opened the gates at 6PM, and we quickly made it down to our preferred spot, just between Billy and Jeff, 2nd row (the first actual row is reserved for handicapped guests). We got exactly what we wanted, but unfortunately the people directly to our left had only arrived at 1:30PM, and the girl directly behind us in line since 9:45AM ended up in the 3rd row. Oh well.
There is a walkway between row 1 and the stage rail, but security was very friendly and We were able to walk right up to the rail to take pics and chat:
The Bravery came out at 7;28, and easily surpassed my dismal expectations. Their first 2 songs were pretty fun, and throughout their set I enjoyed the bass player. Most of the crowd was sitting, but a few people about 6 rows back were going nuts for them. They played 40 minutes and exited. Better than average opener IMO.
AFter Bravery I was hanging out on the rail talking to security. I thought the guy was gonna let me stand right there next to the pro photographers who were allowed to stay up there for the first 3 songs!
I was playing it all cool, but a few minutes before SP came out, one of the other security guards asked me to go back to my spot. Poor me, only in the 2nd row, haha.
SP came out to the Suspiria music, which was very cool at this venue just looking back at the rocks which are breathtaking when lit up at night.
As expected, they opened with United States, which always gets me going nuts instantly. OK version, but most of the crowd wasn't aware of or into the chant at the end. I also thought the band was a split second off following Billy's solo, but maybe my internal headbanging clock was off, haha. The girl next to me who had drank several margaritas before SP was screaming and freaking out during the U.S. solo, which was annoying yet funny.
I expected a somewhat bigger crowd reaction to "Rat in a Cage", but it was just average. Billy did scream pretty good on the "Cage!" line.
Hummer, Bring the Light (different than Vegas -- no vocals at the end, still great), Drown (Billy introduced as "An oldie but a goodie"), SIYL were pretty euphoric as always.
Tonight, Tonight wasn't a great version really, but was very nice in that venue.
Jimmy did a little vamp at the start of Superchrist (unexpected at this point in the setlist) and blew kisses to the adoring crowd. He was the highlight of this song, as usual. I really do love how the lyrics are incorporated in this song though - quite eerie. It was not a great version overall though; I think Billy was urging Ginger to play faster.
Doomsday was good, not really expecting this now either but OK!
GatGC was awesome, just like Las Vegas. I really like the organ part and the ending is fantastic. But overall I think I like the Fillmore ones more for the killer intro. I think the crowd did enjoy Billy's dramatic vocal delivery on this, even if they were somewhat confused by the whole thing.
1979 acoustic in that venue was just awesome, great crowd reaction, which got bigger as it went on.
To Sheila was absolutely beautiful as usual. The atmosphere added to it of course. I was disappointed that the acoustic set ended right after this though.
Today got the crowd pretty pumped, but turned out to just be a warmup for...
TARANTULA! Holy crap! Best version ever? The crowd was jumping up and down like crazy for this, and Billy was loving it, he was cheering on the crowd during the quiet part. Really great stuff. Shouldn't be a surprise since that song is so likable and fun.
Ava Adore -- first time hearing it and it was pretty great
Zero -- good crowd reaction, always a blast
Heavy Metal Machine -- whoa!! There were some serious heavy parts here. The crowd seemed a bit distant for some of it, but overall was pretty into it. I heard Billy yell the "we only do what Billy Corgan says" (or whatever) line, which is hilarious. Unfortunately Billy seemed to get uncomfortable towards the end of this, and apparently sang/joked that it was too cold to keep playing it. It wasn't even cold really. But still very good version.
I am always thrilled for Cherub Rock, but was dismayed that in my last 2 shows they ended on it and didn't do a 2nd encore. The show was no more than 2 hours long. But the crowd was going wild, and Billy appreciated it and did a lot of waving from one side of the stage to the other, and then returned to the mic stand to talk.
He said, "There are some nights where the crowd is better than the band, and tonight was one of them. I usually keep that to myself, but I'm saying it tonight, and thanks for a great night". He really was happy with the crowd, but I guess he was cold (weak sauce Billy), and more importantly he just wasn't happy with some of the band's playing. A few parts they were a bit loose, but the show still had enough great stuff to please, and it's a shame it was so short. But the only encore they actually cut (based on the official setlist) was With Every Light.
Then he congratulated Colorado Rockies fans for their team's recent surge (winning 12 of their last 13 games to qualify for a tiebreaker game to enter the playoffs). He of course mentioned his Cubs, which got some boos from the crowd, and Billy laughed. Then he said he was staying in town for the Rockies vs. Padres game tmrw (which the Rockies won, thus making the playoffs). The game went 13 innings, ending around 10:30PM local time, 11:30PM St. Paul, MN time (so if Billy is tired at the St. Paul show, blame that).
I got an orange acoustic pick after the show (finally on show #8 this summer!).
Sorry I didn't take any pics during SP, I was too busy rocking out, and plus Monte was videotaping for some of it (sadly his camera hard drive had issues so he did not get the whole show).
I just hope they fit in some time on Weds. afternoon to practice Gossamer for the Normal, IL show on Thursday! ;) But the Cubs play Weds. and Thurs. nights at 9PM CST (IL time), so Billy will probably keep running backstage between songs in Normal to get updates. I am not sure if the Cubs losing would make Billy play a killer Silverfuck or just make him end the show even earlier...

There is defintely some issue with that camera.. I would not expect to find a camera that does great audio, but it certainly should be able to record without dropping frames due to hard drive buffer errors.
If I owned the camera I would be complaining to Sony....
