View Full Version : St. Paul, MN - 10/2/2007 IWishIWasBlank 09-27-2007, 11:48 AM Opener... dawdling between the opening act and the Pumpkins.. rougly a half hour at most shows I've been to.. then two hours of Pumpkins. My best guess. ciGarski 09-27-2007, 12:02 PM the bravery should feel free to cancel and let explosions in the sky take over the tour. ChaosEffect 09-27-2007, 12:31 PM Last concert I went to the Bravery opened. Man I felt like driving a sharp object in my ears to distract myself from the pain. IWishIWasBlank 09-27-2007, 06:09 PM I can't wait. ciGarski 09-27-2007, 06:16 PM Y'all can share my itsy bitsy 1-bedroom apartment by Lake Calhoun and sleep on each other like prisoners at Dachow. That is if the cat allows it. I'll make you waffles or something. Again, if the cat allows it. are you still making me waffles? IWishIWasBlank 09-27-2007, 07:12 PM Anyone bringing one of these puppies (at left) to the show? If so, I'd like to meet up beforehand. davin 09-27-2007, 07:23 PM hope it works out for you IWIWB, if not....feel free to come meet me at Normal, Nolbesville, Detroit, Austin or Dallas. :D :smoke: jack_kerouac03 09-28-2007, 12:52 AM So I was back and forth about this show . . . but if there is waffles, I am there. ciGarski 09-28-2007, 12:53 AM back and forth? meaning you weren't sure if you wanted to go? osamy 09-28-2007, 10:14 AM Yeah. I can still make waffles I s'pose. And bacon too. Did you have a ticket, Kerouac, or are you still in need of one? I have one left to pawn off. They were won from the Current, so they SHOULD be floor. Wasabi 09-30-2007, 04:58 PM Wasabi's makin' me think we should all get hammered on saki at Ichiban's in Minneapolis before the show. Course driving would be a bit of a challenge. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=l&hl=en&geocode=&q=sushi&near=75+W.+Kellogg+Blvd.&ie=UTF8&ll=44.948399,-93.09557&spn=0.012574,0.029182&z=15&iwloc=A&om=0 http://www.sakurastpaul.com/index.php?page_id=29 billyboy12 09-30-2007, 06:26 PM Anyone want to trade their floor tickets for section 215??? ciGarski 09-30-2007, 07:11 PM hahahaha no. IWishIWasBlank 10-01-2007, 07:46 AM Actually.. valid question... Any good record stores in that area? I need to get new copies of SD and PI (again.) Never loan out cd's. Ever. To anyone. No matter how much you trust them. Seriously. Don't do it. You'll be sorry. I'm warning you. I know things like this firsthand. Listen to me. I know what I'm talking about. It's happened before, It'll happen again. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Just don't do it. For real. IWishIWasBlank 10-01-2007, 08:05 AM And.. one more quick question: can you buy merch with your credit card on this tour or not? I need to know cash or plastic. ciGarski 10-01-2007, 09:47 AM i heard you could, but im bringing cash anyways. i've got so much school shit to get out of the way because of this. wednesday is going to hurt too. although i'd rather have this hanging over my head then last time i saw corgan in 2005. i had been arrested a few days before Wasabi 10-01-2007, 10:02 AM Actually.. valid question... Just don't do it. For real. There's an old saying in Tennessee -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee -- that says, fool me once -- shame on -- shame on you. You fool me, you can't get fooled again. sppunk 10-01-2007, 10:47 AM I didn't read anything but the first few posts on this last page - WHY THE FUCK IS SOMEONE REQUESTING BENNIGANS? Holy hell you guys need to mob rush that motherfucker and murder him/her before the show. ciGarski 10-01-2007, 12:03 PM i thought it was a joke. is mcgoverns in walking distance to the venue? IWishIWasBlank 10-01-2007, 02:32 PM It looks like it, and it *was* a joke, sppunk. You goin' to the show too? headheldhigh 10-01-2007, 02:49 PM the bravery should feel free to cancel and let explosions in the sky take over the tour. That is the best idea i have ever seen on these boards. IWishIWasBlank 10-01-2007, 04:11 PM McGoverns is about two blocks says Nick, the guy I work with. He says it's a cool place.. just like has been said so far in the thread here that we're talking in and stuff. AndySlash 10-01-2007, 04:23 PM Actually.. valid question... Any good record stores in that area? Not really, no. And not any downtown at all. There's a Cheapo Records off of Snelling Ave south of I-94, but that's a good 5 miles away from the venue. AndySlash 10-01-2007, 04:25 PM The only good thing about Bennigans is their 2-for-1 nights. ciGarski 10-01-2007, 04:28 PM my concern so far is getting there on time, parking, and finding a place that sells redbull so i can drive 3 and a half hours back home that night. and coming on 35 northbound i will not have to worry about that bridge correct? AndySlash 10-01-2007, 04:36 PM There's plenty of lots in the area. I usually park in the ramp just west of McGoverns. I don't think anything is going on at the X, so it should be pretty free and clear. And no, because you'll take 35E once you hit the split in Burnsville. 35-W has the collapsed bridge in Minneapolis. ciGarski 10-01-2007, 05:00 PM excellent. should i anticipate rush hour traffic? if its anything like chicago this can make or break punctuality. i appreciate the tips, i don't know anyone else familiar with the area. AndySlash 10-01-2007, 05:17 PM Not going into St Paul, no. You should be fine. Just make sure as you're getting into the downtown area you stay on the right so you don't miss the Kellogg exit. NoAlternative 10-01-2007, 07:34 PM I'll be there with a band mate and a karoke DJ. Hells yeah!! :smoke: ciGarski 10-01-2007, 07:49 PM can your dj take the bravery's spot? Wasabi 10-01-2007, 08:08 PM can your dj take the bravery's spot? i'm glad for my lack of ga tickets, so i can show up later and miss the farking bravery ciGarski 10-01-2007, 08:09 PM why would ga tickets make you watch the bravery? Wasabi 10-01-2007, 08:21 PM i'd have to show up early for closer proximity which would make me a captive audience for teh suckery fliphed 10-01-2007, 08:23 PM Or you can park up by the cathedral for free and just walk down the hill. ciGarski 10-01-2007, 08:26 PM i'd have to show up early for closer proximity which would make me a captive audience for teh suckery the worst "seat" in ga is better than the best seat in the balcony from my experience. and you can always come late and get up close. unless you're 4 feet tall and 100 pounds. Before I met him.. we both went to the same Godsmack/Staind (yeah, I was desperate for rock) concert in Madison.. and I kept thinking to myself, "how the hell did the puny bald dude get up in the front row?" as I was stuck three or four people from the front. Turns out he punched some dude in the balls. Or so he said. He was kind of full of shit from time to time. ciGarski... I'll see you at McGovern's. I'll be wearing a Lou Reed shirt. It was a joke because if you are a loser like me and watching the setlist updates in real time, you would've noticed that they didn't update the page for quite a while after Zero. I joked that BC was giving a long speech before the next song. Anyway, the crowd is getting beat up right now... Superchrist, Doomsday Clock... is HMM coming?? AndySlash 10-03-2007, 12:07 AM There was a bit of "I Love Rock N Roll" in HMM. I suspect they were playing the main riff in there, too, along with the singing of the line, but I can't be sure because the acoustics in that place blow goats. Home was the highlight for me. Had no idea it was coming. As much as I love Glass + the Ghost Children, it killed the crowd at that point. Because of the way the stage is in the venue, they pretty much had to go hang out in the back where b0lly's guitars were instead of going to the dressing or staging area as there was about 50 yards between the doors and the stage, and it was all in plain view of the crowd. However, after HMM and before Cherub Rock, Jeff took off to the doors to presumably go take a piss, because he walked pretty fast. As I said, he could be seen in plain view, so the crowd cheered for him when he came back through the doors. NoAlternative 10-03-2007, 06:24 AM BTW, I managed to tape the whole show onto a digital recorder. Unfortunately I don't think it probably turned out as well as I'd hoped. There were a lot of people screaming (probably me as well, it was my first pumpkins concert, I was in a psychotic trance). for some stupid reason the bravery recorded better than the Pumpkins, and I guess I didn't even realize I was taping the bravery, I intend to erase it later. Anyways I'm sure someone else got some great aud and vid..cGarski was telling me he saw someone taping both of those so hopefully we'll get some good copies circulating. I'll put my audio to waveform and post it up somewhere too, but like I said I'm sure someone else got a better recording. (I was in the pit, lots of pushing and shoving and screaming) In all honesty though, best concert i've ever been to - hands down. Gio denied the first stand we tried bringing in saying it was to big but he was more than cool about it. Something along the lines of "if someone trips and breaks your camera you'll be mad at us and if someone trips and breaks their leg they'll be mad at us so see about getting something smaller or holding them." Totally understandable. Very nice guy. Went back to the car and got a smallerish stand that we all clamped to. We may have been lucky getting that one in but we were way back by the right side of the board where there was very little foot traffic and plenty of blockage. The way to go is probably a DIY stand per manitouman or clamping somewhere in the venue. Can't speak for the other fellas but I should have my source on TTD tonight (doubtful) or saturday at the latest (I'll also post on the LMA after it's seeded). Taping Murder by Death thursday... The crowd was very subdued. The show was a rockfest for a good portion of it, but the crowd only got into it during Tonight Tonite, BWBW, Today and Tarantula. Maybe a short portion of Drown. Bring the Light was the highlight for me. It was definitely a surprise that they played Home, but was very welcome. The 1979, Perfect back to back was good, too. Nice to see Jimmy out there with only a tambourine. Kind of unfortunate the crowd just stood there, but the setlist was great. The acoustics in the venue were terrible. The encore was less exciting than I thought it would be. But what do you expect when no one knows Cherub Rock? Tomorrow night is going to rock my socks off, as I have 2nd row seats on the left. AndySlash 10-03-2007, 11:15 AM hell yea! i knew this was gonna be a good show....crowd must have been pretty cool then, eh? enough to pump the band up enough to play a set like this. I'd say the crowd was pretty good. It wasn't sold out, and like I said, G+tGC and a couple others seemed to derail their momentum at times. Which actually might have been a good thing. There were several times that we could see the crowd sway pretty heavily in one direction, and then back. There was a lot of pushing and, at one point, a small circle of moshers and slammers opened up. But for the most part they had the crowd. The floor was jumping at the right spots, and I do think they fed off of it- I definitely would say the band seemed inspired in their playing. Billy's line of the night, after asking if were having fun and delivered as only he can, was "When you think of fun, you think of us." Now, for me, it was great to hear some of these songs live again. Not that I've ever been their biggest fan, but when Drown started it was like this is why I am here. Yup. osamy 10-03-2007, 11:27 AM Corgan was in a fine mood. It's nice to have the Cubs in the playoffs. Great show. Equivalent to a sweet workout if you were up in the front. The overlong "Glass" did get a little ponderous and boring, but I think it was a good way to settle the crowd down (I was a little worn out in trying to keep my balance). The last couple songs...unless they were all just part of that one HMM...fantastic. Sole disappointment had to do with lack of favorite live songs (no Starz, Ava Adore, or Silverfuck), but when the crowd's into it, one has fun nontheless. ciGarski 10-03-2007, 11:28 AM i grabbed a setlist and there were a lot of changes. not closing with gossemer was one of them. doomsday wasn't on it either, and some other things. i entered the "pits" around tarantula and zero. glass may have appeared to ruin it to you guys but down there it wasn't like there was a big circle pit and everyone froze, its seemed welcome except for the run in i/we had with a drunk guy who totally ruined most of the song. he kept acting like zero was still playing, and was humping the air. it didn't take long for this to become unbearably ubnoxious so cigarski took care of it. anyway for what i caught i really enjoyed gatgc. home was awesome too. superchrist, doomsday, HMM were just awesome. heavy heavy heavy "you thought we weren't comin back, you knew us better than that" i was amazed to see gossemer written in as the closer, but my girl was totally bummed after with every light because she wanted to hear today, so she got her wish and was just unbelievably excited, so i was feeding off of that. i love seeing newbie pumpkin fans get stoked, especially as first timers. and at that point our faces were melted and it was just a complete and satifying show. i wouldn't have changed a thing. getting a setlist was awesome too. ciGarski 10-03-2007, 11:31 AM no andy, i drove a green grand am with a "PUMKINS" licence plate. when i got back to my car there were some girls taking pictures of it lol. Home was played where it was listed, I think. ciGarski 10-03-2007, 12:52 PM zero was perfect timing. and i was surprised how much i enjoyed neverlost live. ciGarski 10-03-2007, 12:53 PM you should have joined him, instead. i was up there, i should have. we would have gotten quite the scorn from corgan. kinda like pete's old avatar AndySlash 10-03-2007, 12:54 PM How was McGoverns? ciGarski 10-03-2007, 12:56 PM chill. i had a pretty good burger and a few beers. i'd regular that place for games, and the upstairs had a nice view. did you not go? ciGarski 10-03-2007, 01:02 PM http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g6/GNHunter/SmashingPumpkins10207053.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g6/GNHunter/SmashingPumpkins10207048.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g6/GNHunter/SmashingPumpkins10207039.jpg and andyslash, for you. 10.2.07. never forget. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g6/GNHunter/SmashingPumpkins10207030.jpg davin 10-03-2007, 01:44 PM nice pics. so lapis, JRiordan....out of curiousity....how many shows have you seen prior to 2007? JRiordan 10-03-2007, 01:55 PM so lapis, JRiordan....out of curiousity....how many shows have you seen prior to 2007? 10/4/96 7/7/98 11/29/00 Sadly I had no money nor Ticketmaster skills back then, and missed plenty of Chicago shows you got my screen name right ;) vanilla 10-03-2007, 02:01 PM i had sooo much fun! i was in the middle towards the back, and could see just fine. when Perfect started i yelled "RYAN!". the highlights for me were Rocket & Hummer. i was not dissapointed what so ever. great show! MisterSquishyHalo 10-03-2007, 02:06 PM Wondering for those that went, we're you skeptical of the pumpkins before seeing them live? Especially considering how many felt about zietgeist? AndySlash 10-03-2007, 02:13 PM Very much so. As I said in this thread, I wasn't very excited. But a couple hours before the show the excitement started to creep in, and after the show I can't say I was disappointed. We rated the show a 7 afterward. I was pleasantly surprised. I am now looking forward to seeing them again soon. I need to hear Gossamer, dammit. vanilla 10-03-2007, 02:15 PM Wondering for those that went, we're you skeptical of the pumpkins before seeing them live? Especially considering how many felt about zietgeist? yes, i was skeptical. i had lower expectations so i wouldn't be dissapointed. i was suprised. i thought they totally rocked. MisterSquishyHalo 10-03-2007, 02:15 PM I'm curious on how it could be more of 8 or 9. More favorites on the setlist? Could they do anything in terms of energy/playstyle/etc that could have been better? AndySlash 10-03-2007, 02:15 PM Especially considering how many felt about zietgeist? The only one I felt was better live was Bring the Light. I already liked United States, and that didn't disappoint either. MisterSquishyHalo 10-03-2007, 02:17 PM I guess the reason I ask is, Compared to the 2000 shows, the band had so much more energy and vibe to it. I know many are upset with the lack of darcy/james etc, but I thought the new cats filled in very well. vanilla 10-03-2007, 02:17 PM i was hoping they were going to play starla...but instead i got with every light. :/ MisterSquishyHalo 10-03-2007, 02:19 PM i was hoping they were going to play starla...but instead i got with every light. :/ Starla never gets old..but you guys got rocket electric!! MisterSquishyHalo 10-03-2007, 02:22 PM We're any of you guys in chicago in 2000? Days Inn at lincoln park? :) theghostchild 10-03-2007, 02:31 PM I would have taken Gossamer over the encores we got....but hopefully in Normal! AndySlash 10-03-2007, 02:41 PM I'm curious on how it could be more of 8 or 9. G+tGC was a crowd killer. I really felt (and saw as I looked down on the crowd) the energy just disappear. Personally *I* enjoyed it, because I like that song, but it definitely negatively impacted the show's energy and flow at that point. The crowd wasn't ready for a break yet. I know there's a new record and they are promoting it, but I'm pretty sure the crowd would have loved more familiar material. Really, how many there knew Superchrist? How many thought it was just a United States reprise? How many knew Home? How many recognized the radically different G+tGC and HMM? Certainly not the majority. With Every Light should not be an encore, if played at all. Nobody really seemed to care. If they wanted to go "light" for an encore, play something more familiar to the crowd- 33, Mayonaise (ha)... maybe even Untitled. At least that's on the GH. And other than Bring the Light and US, to me the Zeitgeist songs weren't much better live than on the record. Hard to be positive about things you don't particularly like if they aren't much different. So, yeah, a 7. lapis 10-03-2007, 02:58 PM nice pics. so lapis, JRiordan....out of curiousity....how many shows have you seen prior to 2007? ZERO redbull 10-03-2007, 03:01 PM I'm not reading through this whole thread to see if this was already posted, but there were three audio recordings done from a stand as well as video from front/center balcony per taper's section. ciGarski 10-03-2007, 03:23 PM this is where i totally disagree with andyslash, i was in that crowd and the only thing that killed the crowd was the asshole who was trying to mosh during it. he was so fucked up and was humping the air and started to hump me so i choked slamed him to the ground and told the people around me to get him the fuck out of there. i was suprised this wasn't more visable to the people in the stands. it was a pretty big scene.. at first we were just pushing this guy off of us, then that didn't work and we really had to get physical with him. security either couldn't see it or was going to do nothing about it. but as a crowd member i totally enjoyed glass and i enjoyed with every light because i've never seen it live before. and thats (selfishly) what i was looking for in the sets. AndySlash 10-03-2007, 03:37 PM this is where i totally disagree with andyslash, i was in that crowd . How close were you to the stage at that point? If you were closer than, say, 10 heads back, you just wouldn't have noticed. It didn't just kill the crowd either, it brought the show momentum to a near halt. Up to that point I thought they'd solidly built the show up, with Tonight bringing it to that next level first, then Zero totally owning the place. I really think if they put Bullet and Hummer there, with Glass following, it would have kind of been a nice ebb and flow. But it just stopped once the trudging beat of Glass started. pearlzepfan 10-03-2007, 05:01 PM I'm sorry, I know there is already a thread for this show but I really need help. I went to the show last night with my girlfriend and by the time we got out of the theater, the tickets had all been taken. It is really important to me to get a ticket. Why did they take it at the beginning? If anyone has an extra one they'd be willing to send me it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot reprise85 10-03-2007, 05:10 PM you want a ticket stub from the show? is that what you mean? pearlzepfan 10-03-2007, 05:14 PM Yes, that is what I meant. I couldn't believe they took it from me at the beginning. I like to collect them. AndySlash 10-03-2007, 05:18 PM Why would they do that? They didn't rip it? And sorry, but this is going in the thread. reprise85 10-03-2007, 05:21 PM I can't help you pearl, I didn't go... but I would assume if they took the whole thing from you, they took it from everyone. Weird. NoAlternative 10-03-2007, 05:21 PM what the fuck is a golden gopher? LOL :D pearlzepfan 10-03-2007, 05:23 PM yeah, they took the whole thing from everyone and said they'd hand them back at the end of the show if people wanted them, by the time I got there, they were all taken. I'm actually quite upset about it. AndySlash 10-03-2007, 05:34 PM The hell, they just ripped my ticket, bro! yelims 10-03-2007, 05:48 PM The hell, they just ripped my ticket, bro! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
