Elvis The Fat Years 11-18-2007, 10:42 PM does anyone know that average cock size in the venue? MisterSquishyHalo 11-18-2007, 11:09 PM except that the band actually promised something "special". It appears that, as usual, its bullshit. Where did the band promise something special. That was for Atlanta, not Dallas. xyumachine 11-18-2007, 11:10 PM Where did the band promise something special. That was for Atlanta, not Dallas. http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/news_2669 Floppy Nono 11-18-2007, 11:11 PM i can't wait for wild thing to bring the house down to conclude this SUCCESSFUL TOUR, YEAH BABY! Thats not the band saying they are going to do something special. MisterSquishyHalo 11-18-2007, 11:16 PM i can't wait for wild thing to bring the house down to conclude this SUCCESSFUL TOUR, YEAH BABY! Floppy Nono 11-18-2007, 11:16 PM OH MY GOD YOU GUYS, POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCES!!! Floppy Nono 11-18-2007, 11:20 PM i wouldn't mind that song either, it's actually one of my favorites especially their new live version but i was hoping for something a little more spectacular and less played already about 5-6 times when they mentioned a history of making last shows "memorable" loser2d 11-18-2007, 11:22 PM yeah I agree, they seem to exaggerate things, such as the surprises. Floppy Nono 11-18-2007, 11:24 PM exactly daevil1 11-18-2007, 11:25 PM They didnt even say that tonights show will be special. That was the websites media militia guy as stated above. You people make no sense. Floppy Nono 11-18-2007, 11:26 PM 11:18pm CST: Cherub Rock. 11:23pm CST: End show. WHAT THE FUCKING SHIT?!?! You've got to be KIDDING me? Really? That's memorable? I can't wait to talk to a pumpkins fan 5 years from now and say man remember that show back on 11/18/07 ?!?!?! and he can't because it's JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER FUCKING SHOW. redbull 11-18-2007, 11:26 PM shows over * United States o Star Spangled Banner [Key] (tease) * Bullet with Butterfly Wings * Drown * Bring the Light * Tonight, Tonight * Tarantula * Disarm * Lucky 13 o (jam) * That's the Way (My Love Is) * Hummer * 1979 * Perfect * Today * Stand Inside Your Love * Superchrist * Doomsday Clock * Heavy Metal Machine o Iron Man [Black Sabbath] (tease) o White Rabbit [Jefferson Airplane] (tease) o On the Road Again [Canned Heat] (tease) o I Love Rock 'N Roll [The Arrows] (tease) Encore: * Pomp and Circumstances * Cherub Rock what a leet setlist loser2d 11-18-2007, 11:26 PM Its not the fact that they state it, its the hype around them redbull 11-18-2007, 11:28 PM it might also be the fact that they're soundchecking stuff that would make anyone here cream themselves, but not playing it. loser2d 11-18-2007, 11:29 PM yeah, the soundchecks are such lead ons Floppy Nono 11-18-2007, 11:29 PM it IS the fact that they state it! seriously, don't even fucking mention the idea that the show might be special if they don't PLAN WITHOUT A DOUBT to make it so. I mean, it gets everyone wondering and excited and BAM, nothing happens! and to everyone here saying "oh just mediamilita", well who the fuck else do we get any of our news from the bands camp from? That said, i've got hopes for the 9 new songs on the European arena tour. loser2d 11-18-2007, 11:31 PM More than likely it will be the songs that they have been soundchecking, but never plays. Floppy Nono 11-18-2007, 11:34 PM i hope so, they've got a pretty good potential batch of songs that they're soundcheck hording that really should have been on rotation for this tour. I can understand if the band wasn't ready to play them yet though, i'd rather they be spot on than just thrown together. Here's hoping our European friends get a little mayonaise on the side! loser2d 11-18-2007, 11:35 PM like superchrist, that song got progressively better. MisterSquishyHalo 11-18-2007, 11:38 PM it might also be the fact that they're soundchecking stuff that would make anyone here cream themselves, but not playing it. And we got a logical reasoning behind this, they are going to unleash them in Europe. loser2d 11-18-2007, 11:40 PM Imagine that they dont even play any of them and the play completely random songs over there. Well the good thing is that by the time im out of school, i will know the set list. MisterSquishyHalo 11-18-2007, 11:40 PM it IS the fact that they state it! seriously, don't even fucking mention the idea that the show might be special if they don't PLAN WITHOUT A DOUBT to make it so. Check out the atlanta 'special suprise' posts, those were clear. Floppy Nono 11-18-2007, 11:41 PM And we got a logical reasoning behind this, they are going to unleash them in Europe. Cool, so they soundchecked them in an American venue the night of a show they weren't played at why? Floppy Nono 11-18-2007, 11:42 PM The band didnt mention it. Read the post again. This media militia guessing. He had no idea. Check out the atlanta 'special suprise' posts, those were clear. then why even fucking speculate. If you don't know for sure why even give people the idea? If someone on here says "they make last shows memorable sometimes" it's one thing but when someone VERY close to the band suggests it, that has a hell of a lot more meaning to it. MisterSquishyHalo 11-18-2007, 11:45 PM Cool, so they soundchecked them in an American venue the night of a show they weren't played at why? Maybe they were rehearsing it. Who knows, we've known from day one that they usually do not play the classics that they soundcheck during the show. Its like people are suprised or whatnot. MisterSquishyHalo 11-18-2007, 11:46 PM then why even fucking speculate. If you don't know for sure why even give people the idea? Who knows, we've known from day one that they usually do not play the classics that they soundcheck during the show. Floppy Nono 11-18-2007, 11:47 PM Well we know that Media Militia posts on here, why not ask him? if he were to come into this thread i would ask him but the only time i've ever seen him vocal on here was to quiet down the "WTF chicago shows ZOMG" thread that was going on. Does he post a lot more that i missed? MisterSquishyHalo 11-18-2007, 11:49 PM if he were to come into this thread i would ask him but the only time i've ever seen him vocal on here was to quiet down the "WTF chicago shows ZOMG" thread that was going on. He's starting to pop up in the general pumpkins threads too. Dude I know where you are coming from, I cling to soundcheck stuff too, but I guess I have gotten past the disappointment months ago.. MisterSquishyHalo 11-18-2007, 11:50 PM But about the chicago shows...I betcha they will have at least one tune up club show..maybe unannounced..or under a different name before they go to europe. Floppy Nono 11-18-2007, 11:52 PM He's starting to pop up in the general pumpkins threads too. Dude I know where you are coming from, I cling to soundcheck stuff too, but I guess I have gotten past the disappointment months ago.. i had too but ever since i read that from the official site i've been pretty excited for tonight to see what they will "do/pull". Seriously, that phrasing made it sound like they had some sort of outrageous awesome stunt planned and maybe they did, i noticed Andrew noted in the live updates that the crowd seemed out of it so maybe billy decided they weren't worth it. I'd just like to know for sure Floppy Nono 11-18-2007, 11:53 PM But about the chicago shows...I betcha they will have at least one tune up club show..maybe unannounced..or under a different name before they go to europe. i hope so, billy's always been vocal about how much he loves his city but it seems so far they've been put on the back burner and that surprises me. If you'd asked me 3 years ago if the SP came back where their first show would have been i would have told you Chicago without any hesitation. I was blown away when he decided on Paris and even more so now that the North American tour is done and he still hasn't even played Chicago once. MisterSquishyHalo 11-18-2007, 11:56 PM i had too but ever since i read that from the official site i've been pretty excited for tonight to see what they will "do/pull". I'd just like to know for sure Billy more than any other musician feeds off the crowd. I'm interested in the 9 songs for europe. THey set a number..now if they don't hit it..then I will blast them. the 9 songs have to be in the back catalogue. redbull 11-18-2007, 11:56 PM But about the chicago shows...I betcha they will have at least one tune up club show..maybe unannounced..or under a different name before they go to europe. there aren't any chicago shows. MisterSquishyHalo 11-18-2007, 11:59 PM there aren't any chicago shows. Maybe they might have a spur of the moment tune up show before heading over to europe. They have done this in the past.. and other bands do this as well. Floppy Nono 11-19-2007, 12:01 AM New York, Billy. That's all i'm asking. loser2d 11-19-2007, 12:15 AM I say alaska to see who the real fans are. MonteLDS 11-19-2007, 12:23 AM Ok billy just left. I guess he talked for a long tme. Someone is most likely going report on this Jimmy also spoke for a long time but not sure how much. 7shadesofblack 11-19-2007, 12:44 AM The show was phenomenal, but this was my first taste of live Smashing Pumpkins so I have nothing to compare it to. Even with my crappy seats it was probably the best concert anyone has ever seen, anywhere, ever. DarthRok 11-19-2007, 12:49 AM Show was awesome. Superchrist and Lucky 13 were my favorites to see live. Jeff is really good. Billy made the right choice. All the band members came out after the show and said hi. billy said he is probably going to do some recording during the break. Someone asked him when he is going to put out a new album, and he said "does it really matter?" then he went off about how no one listens to albums any more and how people wouldn't listen to songs if you gave them away for free. it was pretty funny. Some douche freaked out because jimmy wouldn't sign his guitar and started cursing and screaming, what a fuck. Fantastic show, new stuff is better live. murgle 11-19-2007, 01:07 AM It made me laugh when Billy told people to stop throwing mayonaise packets on the stage. "we get the joke". hah Rickpat12 11-19-2007, 01:12 AM Lol at the mayonaise joke haha. Can't wait for these 9 new songs they will unleash in Europe. Also I want to hear everything Billy and Jimmy said. lapis 11-19-2007, 01:36 AM The opening band was good. They got a lot of love from the front row. The show was great. Sure, there weren't any surprises, but anyone still holding out hope for surprises at this point is just a masochist. I had a great time. Front row center with Skipgo and JRiordan ;) We had a netphorian meetup in the line all day and it was very fun. Highlights of the show for me were: United States, Disarm, Lucky 13 (OMG I LOVE THE JAM AT THE END!!!!!), Superchrist, and Doomsday Clock. Thanks for the food Davin! and thanks for the ride Skipgo!! misogi 11-19-2007, 02:26 AM I was blown away by the concert. I finally got to see the Pumpkins live and it was awesome!!! The best concert I've ever seen. I'm losing my voice from screaming. I just wish they had at least one more encore. I took a few short clips and just uploaded them. Well worth the long-ass drive, and getting home at 4:00 in the morning. It was cool that the band members were so nice after the show (outside)--didn't expect Billy to talk so long. Kind of surreal. It was good to meet all you guys that I ended up running into at the show. Anyone notice that there was no sound the first couple seconds of the show (United States)? It was really brief, but Jimmy's drums had no amplification the first few drumbeats. That freakin' light rig is awesome. I want one of those big triangle lights in my house. New Art Rioter 11-19-2007, 08:16 AM That's not an appalling setlist like some of you are making out. I'm sure Hummer and Drown would be worth the price of admission alone. JokeyLoki 11-19-2007, 08:18 AM That's not an appalling setlist like some of you are making out. I'm sure Hummer and Drown would be worth the price of admission alone. It was $135 for two tickets for shitty seats, and I'm actually pretty happy that I got that money back... but that's mainly 'cause I'm fucking broke right now... Glad I didn't miss any huge surprise. Savesthegirl 11-19-2007, 08:36 AM Showed up late due to traffic but got lucky, still got in a front and center, couple rows back. I had a greatFUCKINGtime! Definitely one of the best show for me personally this year. Hearing United States, Superchrist & Lucky 13 were amazing!! And JRiordan, it was good meeting you :] aldango 11-19-2007, 10:00 AM So it was almost a carbon copy of the awesome Austin show, and that can be taken two ways: a) it's bad that it was a carbon copy, or b) it's cool that it's a copy of an awesome show. Except Starla. And That's the Way. And the weird Jimmy Frog thing. Maybe when they went to Austin they decided that this particular setlist just worked because it is a fantastic show to see. That being said, I agree, don't say "zomg who knows what will happen" and then have it be an regular November show. So all in all, it was a nice experience. I was glad to have my girlfriend see them, and for that I was happy to go. skipgo 11-19-2007, 10:57 AM Showed up late due to traffic but got lucky, still got in a front and center, couple rows back. I had a greatFUCKINGtime! Definitely one of the best show for me personally this year. Hearing United States, Superchrist & Lucky 13 were amazing!! And JRiordan, it was good meeting you :] hey i was right next to JRiordan, did i meet you? i talked to lots of people around me who's names i didn't get. Holy Crap. I haven't read all of this thread so i don't know what people are complaining about, but this was one of the best nights of my fucking life. The energy coming from the crowd and the band were in-fucking-credible. Even when I was hearing a song like Today or Bullet, which I'm usually thinking, "blah, how many times have i heard THIS???", It was still just completely sublime. Fuck. I'm a little overwhelmed right now and don't know where to start on what a great day I had, so I'll probably talk about it later. I met some great people, and saw a great fucking show with them. Everyone I saw in the crowd was having an amazing time, so those of you who weren't there have no idea what you're talking about. highlights for me: Lucky 13!!, Ironman, Superchrist (which i usually don't even care that much for) drown, hummer, pomp. Catching the pick that billy tossed to me, and telling him after the show that i was the person who made his myspace illustration/layout and having him thank me and tell me that I'm "a very talented person" (ok i went pretty fucking fangirl at that moment). another highlight: meeting tcm. lapis, jroiordan, and all the other "good people", you guys were great, it made the show that much more fun to be surrounded by you guys. It was cool to meet slingeroguitaro, 1100ww (even though I didn't talk to you as long as I would have liked), rumoredtothesandn, daniel, davin (thanks for the burger!!), and everyone else (non-netphorian-types) There are some other stories to tell, such as the gang fight that almost broke out between the "waited in line all day" people and the "just got here at 7 and started a line at another door" people (and the fact that the good guys won :D) and the girl who waited with us all day who gave billy her number after the show, then he called her and got her to come backstage. (it pays to be a hot girl i guess). i got lots of photos and some video as well, but i won't have a chance to post that stuff until tonight. (john, i'll send you the video of the opening band when I get it on my computer) now i have to go to a funeral.. a weird transition from yesterday, for sure. skipgo 11-19-2007, 11:14 AM Ok billy just left. I guess he talked for a long tme. Someone is most likely going report on this Jimmy also spoke for a long time but not sure how much. let's see, there was a long line standing against the fence, i was in the middle. billy stayed at the far end talking for several minutes, but i couldn't hear what he was talking about. All I heard was him telling a girl that ginger was half mexican and half peruvian, and then he was telling this guy from mexico that if they came to mexico it would have to be a full tour of south america, and that hadn't worked out for them yet because of the economy and world war 3, then they said "but you're billy corgan!" lol. Then i talked to him for a minute, and after that I don't remember what he said to other people. Jimmy was signing a lot of stuff but eventually had to stop because everyone was in the van waiting for him. ginger stood and talked to the mexican guy next to me in spanish so i have no fucking clue what they were talking about. there's a lot of other stuff that was going on back there but i can't think of all of it right now. i think i heard, second hand, that billy said to someone that if BTO had been on siamese dream people would call it a classic, but since it's new, no one listens to it. Typical billy comment there. at any rate, he was very nice to me and his words to me sort of made my night. I'm glad I finally got the nerve to talk to him, unlike our last meeting where i just stared at his shoes and didn't say anything. Dallas was a pretty good show … I liked Austin a little more because the crowd was better, I had 9 or 10 friends with me, the Jimmy Flemion thing was cool, they played Starla and not “That’s the Way [My Love Is],” Billy was in a really jovial mood, and I didn’t have Media Militia Douche filling my head with false hopes. But, yeah, there were few changes from the Austin setlist [dropped STARLA + Zero and added That’s the Way … blah]. I also didn’t have to sit through What Made Milwaukee Famous in Austin due to us being late. I wanted to like them, I really did. But … totally forgettable band. I was in the pit with about 3 or 4 people in front of me. Billy threw out all the customized picks at the end [they’re black with a white zero and a slash through it] and I was the only one in my immediate vicinity not to try reach for one but it landed on my folded arms, so I got one of those. Ummm … obnoxious drunk guy got kicked out of the pit … that was awesome. Billy talked a lot more … complained a little more. I wanted to groan when he started commenting about album sales. I wished I had my sign with me [as well as my Best Buy receipt for that lame Zeitgeist book/CD] … I think his $35 - $90 shirt and hoodie sales will make up for the lack of sales from the 6 fabulous editions of Zeitgeist. It’s amazing how the pit was only 2/3 full but everyone was as scrunched up as humanly possible as if being 8 inches closer to Billy and Co. was worth touching, drinking, smelling, and licking the sweat off the backs and necks and hair of the person in front of them. Songs the Pumpkins need to ax from their future setlists: Bullet With Butterfly Wings, Bring the Light, Zero [so glad they didn’t play this in Dallas], That’s the Way [My Love Is]. I guess I was just spoiled with the Austin show. Don’t get me wrong, I liked it, but it’s like having sex with a really hot chick for the second time … the first time was amazing and the second time? Well … she’s not working as hard to impress you to keep you coming back. New Art Rioter 11-19-2007, 11:41 AM Haha, another classic Corgan moan about lack of sales to a crowd who more than likely all bought the album then? What exactly did he say? I can't help but wince a little when he goes off on one in all seriousness, then realizes at the end he's been moaning and tried to make it into a joke yeah i dont know why he talks about people not listening to music. its just a very odd thing to say. of course people listen to music! and to talk about money or sales etc. it's just poor taste i think. he doesn't need to discuss that. it's all about enjoying the music and experiencing their music that should be the main point of discussion and all the good things that go along with that. that's all spidersoma 11-19-2007, 11:50 AM try it you wont want to do it any other way when you free? AnnMarie727 11-19-2007, 11:50 AM i do have to say though that 100 bux for one of those cotton sweatshirts is way too much money for a sweatshirt. especially considering a lot of fans are young people. that's rediculous. i got my SP t shirt from the mall. for 15 bux from one of those wierdo stores. that's about right AnnMarie727 11-19-2007, 11:51 AM when you free? ;) i hope you find her Savesthegirl 11-19-2007, 11:56 AM hey i was right next to JRiordan, did i meet you? i talked to lots of people around me who's names i didn't get. My condolences to you.. :/ Yeah, we didn't meet but I caught a glimpse of the tat, which is kickass btw. I was right behind the guy behind you in the Zwan shirt. I completely agree, the energy in the section of the pit 'we' were in was great and yes this -definitely- was a night I'll never forget. p.s..thanks to those who let my girl in, poor thing was being man handled but made it through, beer intact. aldango 11-19-2007, 12:08 PM Even when I was hearing a song like Today or Bullet, which I'm usually thinking, "blah, how many times have i heard THIS???", It was still just completely sublime. This really sums up the whole thing for me and is the reason that I still enjoyed this show a lot. :) And the fog? Holy shit it was insane. spidersoma 11-19-2007, 12:21 PM I wish i had stuck around to talk with the band. didn't think they'd actually come out to talk to anyone. bummer. aldango 11-19-2007, 12:22 PM I wish i had stuck around to meet Billy. didn't think they'd actually talk to people. bummer, dude. take it or leave it, but it can be a humbling experience... aldango 11-19-2007, 12:23 PM and by that I mean he can be a real tool or a really nice guy (as has been discussed at length in many threads) spidersoma 11-19-2007, 12:25 PM take it or leave it, but it can be a humbling experience... honestly ... i really want it to happen, but i have no idea what i would say in such a short span of time. davin 11-19-2007, 12:29 PM what a leet setlist Glad I didn't miss any huge surprise. surprises or not, you missed a great fucking show...despite how the setlist reads. to paraphrase the point MisterSquishyHalo made in an earlier post (and skipgo): "All the bitching is from people who didn't go and have no fucking clue what they are talking about." having seen the band almost every month starting with Paris and ending in Dallas (give or take)....there is no question the band has truly evolved into an extremely confident, refined, tight and freely energetic unit. jeff and ginger have made the songs their own. ginger's dynamic with billy, jeff's performance, etc. was all great. it was the best hummer and bring the light i have ever seen, the sickest lucky 13, and probably the most intense half hour of music i have seen from them this year as they went from Superchrist-->Doomsday Clock-->HMM w/ White Rabbit, Iron Man (full), On the Road Again, and I Love Rock n Roll (i never thought someone could make Iron Man even heavier, god damn). Another standout to me was a really great version of disarm -- btw, how long has jimmy been leaving the stage during this song and the band just playing it with guitars and keys? was this the same in Austin? getting back to the setlist, every song ripped right into the next and there was absolutely 0 dull moments or surprising changes to the flow (sorry G&GC, i still love you)......it really worked and if anything, only the encore felt like any sort of buzz kill just because it was singular and ended too early for a "tour ending show". so in that aspect it was disappointing, but i had a blast and the crowd was great. ending up being like 12-13 people from the rail, right between billy and jeff. Elvis The Fat Years 11-19-2007, 12:32 PM  spidersoma 11-19-2007, 12:37 PM Disarm in Austin was only Billy on guitar. Lisa ran out at some point and chimed in with her keyboards. Apparently this was all planned? Superchrist and United States were awesome. I love those new songs. I really liked Tarantula and Doomsday Clock was better in Dallas than Austin, but you have to understand that for those of us who saw them in Austin, we already saw a better show. Dallas was still really great, but it was a 9 for me, whereas Austin was a 10. And I still think BWBW blows and is a terrible live song. There was a guy in the pit next to me who sang along to BWBW and was really into it then just stood there with a blank expression on his face for the remainder of the show. Kind of sucked. I don't want to take anything away from the people who went to the Dallas show - it was a great show and the setlist was still really good [Tonight Tonight live is amazing], just not the better of the two I saw. SlingeroGuitaro 11-19-2007, 12:51 PM hey guys, it was great to finally meet all of you. i'm sorry i was a little anti-social, but my company was a little... demanding next time i promise i'll rock with you guys a little more 1100ww 11-19-2007, 01:23 PM Anyone else drive back to Austin after the show last night and deal with that fucking ridiculous fog on I-35? Jesus! It was really bad going north too. Couldn't see shit. davin 11-19-2007, 01:58 PM Hey davin, I dunno if you'll see this before the show.. I was gonna email you on your blackberry but I don't have you address anymore. Do you still have my tmail address? If so, send me a message! sorry, i didn't have your address either. :( 0 for 2 so far, but hopefully i'll see you in '08. did you enjoy the show? davin 11-19-2007, 02:00 PM They didnt even say that tonights show will be special. That was the websites media militia guy as stated above. You people make no sense. :banging: davin 11-19-2007, 02:05 PM shows over * United States o Star Spangled Banner [Key] (tease) * Bullet with Butterfly Wings * Drown * Bring the Light * Tonight, Tonight * Tarantula * Disarm * Lucky 13 o (jam) * That's the Way (My Love Is) * Hummer * 1979 * Perfect * Today * Stand Inside Your Love * Superchrist * Doomsday Clock * Heavy Metal Machine o Iron Man [Black Sabbath] (tease) o White Rabbit [Jefferson Airplane] (tease) o On the Road Again [Canned Heat] (tease) o I Love Rock 'N Roll [The Arrows] (tease) Encore: * Pomp and Circumstances * Cherub Rock what a leet setlist disarm was full band minus jimmy....that "jam" is the new ending to lucky 13...and Iron Man was full not just teased, though still played within HMM. And Iron Man was after White Rabbit, not before. davin 11-19-2007, 02:07 PM it might also be the fact that they're soundchecking stuff that would make anyone here cream themselves, but not playing it. likely because billy does not feel they are "ready". davin 11-19-2007, 02:08 PM the point of this being WHY EVEN SOUNDCHECK A SONG YOU HAVE NO INTENTION OF PLAYING THE ENTIRE TOUR, LET ALONE THAT NIGHT. TO KEEP PRACTICING IT FOR WHEN THEY ARE READY TO PLAY IT. or JUST TO MAKE YOU SUFFER. spidersoma 11-19-2007, 02:45 PM hey guys, it was great to finally meet all of you. i'm sorry i was a little anti-social, but my company was a little... demanding next time i promise i'll rock with you guys a little more were you wearing a Cubs hat? SlingeroGuitaro 11-19-2007, 02:47 PM were you wearing a Cubs hat? i hope not. i had on a red tie-dyed shirt, long hair... not the least bit sexy spidersoma 11-19-2007, 02:49 PM I thought two things were weird: 1. Billy made NO mention of the postponement. Didn't thank us for still making it out, didn't comment on it whatsoever. 2. I yelled "Happy Birthday Lisa" when it was really quiet. Billy looked at me and said nothing. WWMF wouldn't shut up about their birthdays, lol. Rickpat12 11-19-2007, 03:02 PM Glad to see the band ended their stay in the States with a bang. Can't wait to hear the boot! 1100ww 11-19-2007, 03:17 PM ...Billy made NO mention of the postponement. Didn't thank us for still making it out, didn't comment on it whatsoever... Yeah, actually he did. It was after a few songs into the show. I don't remember the exact wording at all. But he said something about how the band "finally made it to the Dallas show", thanking everyone for showing up, and repeatedly thanking everyone for coming to the show at various points. Also, they probably don't want to dwell on, or continue attracting attention to, Jimmy having been hospitalized. Bill made it more than clear they appreciated everyone being there, especially at the end of the show. It was really cool how he tried to throw out as many guitar picks as possible. redchandelier 11-19-2007, 03:27 PM the girl who waited with us all day who gave billy her number after the show, then he called her and got her to come backstage. (it pays to be a hot girl i guess). wtf... that's one lucky girl..... it's cool that you got to talk to him tcm 11-19-2007, 03:38 PM pretty sweet show, i enjoyed it better than Austin actually, despite the nearly identical setlist. the energy up front was awesome indeed. Superchrist seemed more intense than ever, so much saliva flying off the stage. i got to say hi to skipgo, lapis, and JRiordan afterwards. good times. I yelled "Happy Birthday Lisa" when it was really quiet. Billy looked at me and said nothing. was that after the Tonight Tonight intro? that got a huge grin from her. skipgo 11-19-2007, 04:02 PM yeah she looked pretty happy about the birthday shout outs. i <3 you tcm, thanks for saying hello JRiordan 11-19-2007, 04:11 PM Pre-show and Soundcheck: Good time in line all day. Around 4PM about 10-15 people showed up who had won a radio station contest to get in to watch the soundcheck and get band autographs. I listened to the SC through the small opening in the front door. Could actually hear pretty well, but you had to have you ear right up to the door. I now think parts of Iron Man was the first thing they soundchecked (I did not hear the main riff, which I would have recognized immediately, but instead the later parts which I knew but wasn't even thinking it was Iron Man, so at the time I thought it may have been something else). LMGTWTY (2x) sounded nice (esp. since we didn't hear it in the show). JRiordan 11-19-2007, 04:11 PM Line controversy: lapis (N. Carolina) was first in line, I (Chicago) was behind her, then (in some order) 2 guys from Mexico (David and Hiram), a couple from New Jersey, at least 3 from Louisiana, including skipgo. Then I think finally a Texan (Seth) showed up! After that came a bunch of other mostly cool people including SlingoGuitaro and his friend, also a huge fan. Will call opened at 6, and not long after this a bunch of people who just showed up then started to congregate in front of the other door in front of the venue (there are multiple doors). We had the real line formed at the right-most door, which we were told is where PIT ticket holders normally line up. We were debating whether to split the real line between the 2 doors, as to make sure that the people who actually lined up would be first to enter (using either door). But this did not happen, and more and more people showed up to the other door. There was a lot of yelling about cutting, and then suddenly the clueless venue staff opened the 2nd door and the late people started going in before us. Our door was opened like 10 seconds later, so we started rushing in. They had to scan my ticket like 3 times, which delayed me further. But then everyone had to get wristbands at a table just inside the doors. So we got the wristbands, tnen had to walk down this long hallway to form another line to actually enter the PIT. Either lapis actually made it to that point first, or else she just forced her way in front of the people who had come late. Soon after, everyone who was actually in front took their rightful spots in front of the line. We were not going to allow the ignorance of the late-comers to actually prevail. Can't speak for all of them, but some of them were really ridiculous, and deserved the mob justice that they got. Luckily the security guy working the "inside pit line" was cool about letting us actually get in the right order. So most of the people who had waited all day did end up on the rail, but probably some people did get stuck father back than they wanted. But there were no problems after that; we all got to enter the pit and no one complained after being inside. Even the "late" people still got to be very close since they were still in the pit, after all. JRiordan 11-19-2007, 04:12 PM THE FINAL SHOW OF THE UNITED STATES FALL 2007 TOUR Band came out to the circus music. Jeff waved to me -- (he saw me a lot at the Fillmore and then in Las Vegas). Nice guy ;) The crowd up front was great, tons of energy, which made the United States extra intense. The sound was fantastic (though of course very loud). Great crowd participation at the end, one of the best I've seen all year. Bullet -- kept the energy up, Billy gave one of his best screams of the year I think Bring the Light -- easily the best of the 4 I saw on fall tour. Guitar work on this is just sick. Tarantula -- excellent as always, tons of crowd energy. The solo before the middle pause and ensuing crowd roar were not quite as long as Red Rocks, but still OK. Lucky 13 > Jam (or new part of Lucky 13?) -- Killer. I will have to go back to the 10/4 Normal, IL version to see how it has evolved since then, but this was just so dirty and heavy! Hummer -- Billy's guitar was about 3 feet from my face for parts of this. Need I say more? Wow. 1979 & Perfect -- nice. Billy commented that Jimmy thought he was having the best drum show of his life?? I could not make all of this out clearly... anyone else? Before Perfect, Billy said "we're going to do a song from the Adore album. Some people don't realize we did put out albums after Mellon Collie." He said Adore, which got some cheers, then Machina which seemed to get more cheers, mainly since Jimmy was standing up there. Then he took a poke at Zwan, can't remember the exact wording. Then mentioned "Life Begins Again" which got a huge cheer. SIYL -- very good as always SUPERCHRIST -- OMG Jimmy!!!1  But seriously, if this was not the sickest performance of this song yet, then I dunno. One of the best things I've witnessed Jimmy do. Particularly after the vocal section, it was like "shock and awe" coming from a drum set. Andrew Fogelsong commented to the HU blog that he thought his tape would be the best recording so far (http://hipstersunited.com/blog/) -- man do I hope so! Nice to meet you too Andrew (briefly). Doomsday Clock -- The face melting continues. I dunno what effects they use during the "Gotta dig in" part, but it suddenly pretty much sounded like the amps were surrounding me -- it was SO loud and awesome. If I'm not mistaken, Billy came in on the "Gotta dig in" line 1 or 2 bars late. Just a note. HMM -- the aural assault did not stop. Iron Man was so so heavy and so much fun. I don't think anyone on this board saw the original in the 1970's, so it's hard not to rock out to SP's intense take. All throughout HMM, Billy and Jeff seemed to be having a blast. Jeff was moving around a lot. Encore: Pomp & Circumstances -- My first time hearing this live, and WOW! The album version has grown on me somewhat, but this was beautiful!! I was actually laughing giddily at how well they put together this arrangement. Lisa and Jeff sounded fantastic, and then Billy just ripped out a great solo at the end. Cherub -- always fun, pretty standard version though. Massive crowd applause ensued. David from Mexico (next to me on the rail) handed Billy a Mexican flag, which he held up and allowed David to take a picture of (very nice). It is always disappointing when the crowd is so good, and the band seems so happy, yet we are denied another encore (which was going to be Muzzle, as listed on the official setlist). But this was the first time that I could use the word "disappointing" all night. Overall, it was easily the best show I've seen since the Fillmore (among Las Vegas 9/13, Red Rocks 9/30, Normal, IL 10/4, and Noblesville, IN 10/6). A couple people in this thread said they liked Austin more, and I also would have preferred Zero and Starla, but I don't know how the band could have played any tighter or with more intensity in Austin, because last night was top notch. But they are at a very high level right now, so probably all the tour-ending shows were great. Of course I would have liked STRTJ and WBFTT, but everything we got was fine. 1100ww 11-19-2007, 04:29 PM ...Then he took a poke at Zwan, can't remember the exact wording.... "...and then we were in that other band that didn't do so well..." something to that effect. JRiordan 11-19-2007, 04:30 PM Post-Show / Band Greetings A lot of people waited for the band after the show. They actually came out pretty soon afterwards. All the fans were behind a very long chain-link fence, which probably put the band more at ease to come and actually talk. Everyone except Lisa came right up to the fence and talked/posed for pics. Jimmy even signed some autographs. I told Jeff thanks for rocking all year (he said thanks), and that maybe I'd see him in Europe, to which he responded (in his hilariously dull voice): "That'd be cool." At least 5 people around me were LOLing at the way he answered that. Somehow his voice and delivery made it sound so non-chalant. Billy talked at length about today's "music fans", whether people care about albums anymore, and that he would have no problem putting out music for free, but people still wouldn't listen to it. Aw Billy... Someone asked him when he is going to put out a new album, and he said "does it really matter?" then he went off about how no one listens to albums any more and how people wouldn't listen to songs if you gave them away for free. it was pretty funny. Can you tell more details of what he said? I think someone asked why he didn't play certain Zeitgeist songs. Did you hear him say that if Bleeding the Orchid were on Siamese Dream, people would care about it and would think it was a classic, but because it's new, people don't pay attention? Can you clarify what he said exactly? [Side notes: BTO was only played 3x on the fall tour (9/28, 10/18, 10/22) In one of the Myspace interviews, he commented they thought 7 Shades and COLG would be great live, but when they played them it didn't live up to their expecatations. 7 Shades has only been played 5x, and COLG 8x. I think they should try 7 Shades again. I don't know what they didn't like about it; I'll have to listen to a couple of them. The only one I saw was 7/16 Fillmore (the last time it was played).] aldango 11-19-2007, 04:32 PM A couple people in this thread said they liked Austin more, and I also would have preferred Zero and Starla, but I don't know how the band could have played any tighter or with more intensity in Austin, because last night was top notch. But they are at a very high level right now, so probably all the tour-ending shows were great. Yes. Energy and intensity was probably very similar. The band was incredibly tight at both gigs. A few of you in the pit mentioned that the energy down there was spectacular - this is astounding, because from outside the pit it looked DEAD (until Iron Man)! Haha. I was worried it was lame down there, but it sounds like it was rockin'! tcm 11-19-2007, 04:35 PM 1979 & Perfect -- nice. Billy commented that Jimmy thought he was having the best drum show of his life?? I could not make all of this out clearly... anyone else? i thought he was jokingly referring to Jimmy's tambourine part in Perfect as "the best gig of his life", but i could have been misinterpreting. 1100ww 11-19-2007, 04:40 PM I love how when Perfect is finished, Jimmy just chunks/tosses the tambourine on the floor. It was also funny how Billy mentioned all the beautiful women at the show, and the big TV screens showed Jimmy giving a big cheesy grin. JRiordan 11-19-2007, 04:52 PM And JRiordan, it was good meeting you :] Nice to meet ya, and tell your friend thanks for asking if I was OK when I was sitting down before SP -- I just needed to rest my legs and back for the show! And I have only slept a few hours in the past couple days... but all is well :) skipgo it was great to meet you, you are so nice, thanks a lot for the ride towards the airport afterwards. I hope I didn't bump you too much during US/Tarantula/Lucky 13/Superchrist/Iron Man ;) davin good to see ya, thanks a lot for the food! I think it definitely gave us an energy burst for the show SlingeroGuitaro nice meeting you and your friend. I hope your spot on the rail was OK after the line fiasco. tcm: Tarantula = best song on Zeitgeist? Or only live? haha. nice to meet you... that kind of surprised me suddenly after the show. I guess I saw you several times when I looked back during the show, but did not realize that when I actually met you. You missed out on the band discussion antics afterwards... JRiordan 11-19-2007, 04:59 PM the energy up front was awesome indeed. Superchrist seemed more intense than ever, so much saliva flying off the stage. Superchrist = Jimmy jamming to the max. Has anyone still not reognized this? Glad you enjoyed it up there. AnnMarie727 11-19-2007, 05:03 PM looks like people had a great time at this show! the videos are great. the band sounds really good. and BC looks fabulous as always. it's nice to seem him smiling and having so much fun :D SlingeroGuitaro 11-19-2007, 05:14 PM SlingeroGuitaro nice meeting you and your friend. I hope your spot on the rail was OK after the line fiasco. this was the first time that i had really ever met josh. he saw that i wanted to come to the show and said he would pay for gas if i wanted to drive, so i did. i would have hung out with you guys more, but he was a bit intimidated by the netphorians, seeing as he loves his siva and all. :) my spot was okay. there was absolutely no engergy from my side of the stage. everybody was trying to get closer to billy. ive spent so many shows eating out of billys hand that i wanted to spend this show rockin to jeff. he seemed kind of shy that i was staring and smiling at him so much. i couldnt hear billys guitar at all, so it was a little bit different to hear jeff and lisa in great detail (not to mention i'm not deaf!). it was kind of strange. i would have rather been in the center with you guys, but i think it was a good change. i actually left the show kind of sad knowing that the tour is over and i don't have much to look forward to for a few months. back to normal life again. i hope to see you all soon. thanks for picking the food up, davin! lapis 11-19-2007, 05:35 PM Doomsday Clock -- The face melting continues. The first time I noticed this "coming in late" was in Philly. There it definitely sounded like a mistake to me and the whole band seemed thrown off. Since then I've seen it happen at the Columbia show... and it seemed intentional. Now that I've seen it again in Dallas I think it's the new way they do this song, and I love it! That riff is awesome :D SlingeroGuitaro 11-19-2007, 05:38 PM they did that in austin, as well, and i've heard it on a couple other boots. something else i noticed- the light show was completely different between the austin/dallas shows. they set up was they same, but the lighting effects were way different. i would have to say dallas' was much better. it was much more psychedelic in parts but in others, tarantula and bullet for instance, it rocked hard somaziro 11-19-2007, 05:59 PM might have to do with indoors vs outdoors (lighting) skipgo 11-19-2007, 06:19 PM JR and Lapis, you're very welcome for the ride (glad i didn't kill the pedestrian, would've put a damper on the evening, haha). I really really enjoyed meeting and spending the day with you guys (listening to souncheck with lapis at the side door was fun!) And don't worry JRiordan, if you bumped into me i didn't notice, i was too busy jumping around myself! :) I'm just sad that it's over. I hope they find their way back to this area sometime soon so i can do it all over again. Any bitching and moaning I do about the band on this board, it was all wiped away by that show last night; it really made me remember why and how much I've always loved this band. I am a true fangirl. And not ashamed to admit it. SlingeroGuitaro 11-19-2007, 06:40 PM might have to do with indoors vs outdoors (lighting) i think just whoever controls the lighting improvs the set. they were completely different. stumpycat 11-19-2007, 06:44 PM Hey guys. I really wanted to meet the lot of you...but with the exception waiting in line with Spidersoma (we weren't aware of this until we started talking a bit to each other as "random people" in line) I couldn't seem to spot any one of you (or at least I didn't realize I did.) :( All the people there generally seemed pretty cool anyway though. Even the security/staff that worked there seemed very professional and orderly, but really pretty amiable. I must have gotten there a little before 6pm, and to be honest I was a litttle confused about the "double line" situation. I'm sure there were a lot of people, just like me, who were also confused and just assumed to choose one line or the other. Someone motioned to me that the right-side line was the "pit line"...so there I went. So, if we ended up getting in before some of you, I don't think that we were intentionally trying to screw anyone out of their rightful spot. In fact, after getting into the pit (right on the railing, just immediately left of Ginger), I thought it was rather unusual that I was actually able to get this position with such ease. For the longest time, the pit just seemed really sparse. (And even when the show started, it didn't seem particularly full...someone could have been doing a juggling on unicycle act back there and no one but Gio would have probably noticed.) Anyway, from my vantage point up there, it actually felt more like a club show where everyone just huddles together despite there being quite a bit of room to spread. As for the show...yeah, it was a bit singles-heavy (and we didn't get anything "special") but honestly I've seen comparatively more lame setlists for this tour. The performance had a lot of energy and Billy seemed to be in pretty good spirits. In addition, although the crowd didn't seem to move around a whole hell of a lot...they did seem willing to sing alound, do the crowd participation properly, etc. I would have been up to crashing around a bit...but honestly I was so fucking tired last night that I just head-banged with the groove. (Perhaps a lot of people were in the pre-post worn out funk that's easy to get into on a Sunday....I had to get up early today anyway.) Also, I guess I would have rather experienced the show from "right up front" for the first time, rather than hang back. They seemed more chill up there...and definitely more into holding up cell phones and mayonaise packets (btw, people really, really, shouldn't throw shit up on stage....even if it's just small things. I wouldn't appreciate that at all if I were trying to perform.) The light show was nice eye candy, too. (Although, IMO, they needed a strobe! Who the fuck has such an instense light show without a strobe!?!) In regard to some of the things Billy said, he did thank everyone who came for being able to "make it out," and also commented on how Texas "has always been very kind to us." In terms of the who record sales thing, he seemed intent on editing earlier statements (which might have sounded whiney and money-grubbing) to the effect that he was most unsettled by the fact that, basically, he thought that no one really gave a fuck about listening to his music anymore. (He said something to this effect: we got the message that no one buys music anymore...okay, that's cool...but please, even if you didn't buy it, still give Zeitgeist a listen.) He came off more like a highly insecure artist in need of attentiona and praise for his work than a prick. Finally, I wish really, really wish I would have stayed after the show!!!!! Godammit!!!! I had ALL intentions of doing so (at least so I could find the other Netphorians) but once the concert was over I was so tired and concerned over not accidentally fucking up the whole cab ride home that meandering around the venue just didn't seem wise at all under the circumstances. Originally, I was going to have a ride home that would have allowed me the time to screw around a good while after the show...but that fell through at the last minute so I ended up having to arrange cab service (I had to show him the route home myself, BTW) that would get me home before my mother would have had a shit fit. (She runs really high on anxiety, and I don't own a cell phone so I can tell her what the fuck is going on...she would have been up all night checking around in a mad panic since she could not rest assured that I was coming home with immediate friends and family.) It is this part that still makes me the most sad. Floppy Nono 11-19-2007, 06:50 PM TO KEEP PRACTICING IT FOR WHEN THEY ARE READY TO PLAY IT. or JUST TO MAKE YOU SUFFER. For LMGTWTY i imagine they did plan to play it that night but billy changed his mind for whatever reason but come on, you have to admit it's kind of ignorant to keep soundchecking songs they have no intention to play that night. Practice should take place in an environment where they're not supposed to be checking songs for play in that venue. And (this is not directed at you davin) i'm well aware that for people at the show the setlist was very excellent but not being at the show i can only comment on how i feel about the setlist NOT being at the show. I understand that show was probably the greatest show of your life either way and that's great, im really happy for you and i bet it would have been for me too. I'm used to the luxury of (read: currently confined to havign to deal with) being able to hear shows on my own personal time and after we were teased with the idea of a special tour ending show i was especially bitter to see an average setlist in terms of the rest of the tour. If that nugget of joy hadn't been waved under my nose i probably wouldn't have even mentioned the setlist at all in this thread. I can see where people are coming from that it was just an assumption of the part of MediaMilitia but i guess i just expected that if it was posted on the official site that it might have been based on a little inside knowledge of what the band intended to do. i'm also sorry to hear you've got no video of Iron Man :( . i've got my fingers crossed for a clear recording of it to surface. I'm a huge Black Sabbath fan. skipgo 11-19-2007, 09:13 PM i see where you're coming from; we were all expecting something big too, but i don't think any of the people standing near me were disappointed, for the most part. I was bummed that we didn't get more of an encore, though, and that they didn't play LMGTWTY or WBFTT or Starla. It would be best if they just surprised us and didn't try to get our hopes up. Iron man was incredible; when it does surface, you won't be disappointed. skipgo 11-19-2007, 09:21 PM Smashing Pumpkins Dallas show a memorable spectacle 01:11 AM CST on Monday, November 19, 2007 By MIKE DANIEL / The Dallas Morning News GRAND PRAIRIE – Go ahead, be a skeptic. Be a pessimist. Be a Billy clubber. Billy Corgan, frontman for the Smashing Pumpkins, performs on Sunday at Nokia Theatre in Grand Prairie. Go ahead and wish that Sunday night's Smashing Pumpkins concert at Nokia Theatre is the band's last in America. You're sorry if you do or if you boycotted the show, which came a few dozen seats shy of selling out Nokia's max-capacity layout anyway. Few would put packing up the Pumpkins again past flight-of-fancy frontman Billy Corgan, and more than a few likely wish that he'd never brought the groundbreaking 1990s alternative rock act back from mothballs. Many believe that he did because it's the one franchise that has banked for him, not because he really wanted to revisit the band's unique approach to melodic rock. However, even half of the Pumpkins is better than none at all, especially when the two that are back are the two that put the sweet and meat in the Pumpkins' sonic pie. Though the concert started out curiously with "United States," the semiprogressive 12-minute jam off the band's serviceable new CD, Zeitgeist, the performance quickly transformed into a 90-minute, memorably rendered retro-spectacle. Mr. Corgan, dressed nattily in shimmery sea-foam-green silk pajamas (or were they scrubs?) that matched bassist Ginger Reyes' bustier, threw out one shifty, spooky delay-fueled solo after another as he tore through a balanced set of both contemporary and classic cuts. Mr. Corgan proved consistently indelible with both his choice chops and his intact voice, almost as if he really did set aside ego to deliver what Pumpkins fans deserve. (But not quite; if one major fault existed at the concert, it was his tendency to noodle around to close numbers out). From the post-opener reality check "Bullet With Butterfly Wings," on which he screamed and scraped with nearly the same verve as he did in 1995, and the nasty down-tuned riffing of "Lucky 13" to comparatively floaty and hopeful versions of "Tonight, Tonight" and "1979," Mr. Corgan delivered time after time. Meanwhile, original drummer Jimmy Chamberlin's thick tribal pounding quickly erased any wonderings if he'd recovered from the emergency angioplasty that delayed this concert's Dallas stop for 15 days. Though those two men are the Pumpkins' true core, the fill-ins for its missing original members performed ably. Rhythm guitarist Jeff Schroeder looked as if he'd be more at home as a part of Modest Mouse (he's a literary type, not a rocker type), but he traded harmonics and thickened solos dutifully and capably. The stage was a dazzling sight to behold; 13 triangle-shaped armatures, each anchoring V-shaped LED-bar arrays and multimode spotlights, hugged the band so closely that it seemed like it were playing out of a chevron-encrusted bowl-style ampitheater, or perhaps some sort of halved disco-era gourd. Any way you end up cutting it, the Pumpkins are still ripe enough to savor, even if they're not quite as large and charged. stumpycat 11-19-2007, 10:45 PM "Mr. Corgan"...LOL. That sounds so...old. :) I'm really glad to see such a positive review when I've seen so many that have pissed on them though. The new SP is really tight onstage and Ginger, Lisa, and Jeff really do look like they belong there. (I think they've come a long way from the somewhat stilted--though technically good--performances they gave at the very beginning.) However, this guy seems to have been swayed--at least in part--precisely by that "singles heavy" setlist. (Notice how he also points out that Billy "noodles too much" at the end of the songs.) One can see why Billy might get the impression that these kind of setlists are what people want when they come to see the band. Great pictures, Skipgo! It's cool that the way things are these days, every show has a handful of people that take really quality pictures and post them for everyone. tcm 11-19-2007, 10:53 PM tcm: Tarantula = best song on Zeitgeist? Or only live? i meant live, of course! it's expertly crafted for the stage, intentionally i think. i just don't get pumped enough to appreciate it fully when there isn't a roomful of bodies jumping and screaming along around me. http://shannon-palmer.com/sp-dallas/billy-jeff-rawk.jpg nice. there was one point where it seemed like Billy was trying to initiate one of these face-offs but Jeff was facing the other way, so Billy was stuck there at his back, both of them chugging away on some riff... it was maybe a tad homoerotic. tcm 11-19-2007, 11:13 PM in a good way. I don't give two shits what he soundchecks anyway, he can play all of MCIS for all i care but when you get inside he's still not going to play those songs, so why bother playing them at the soundcheck? You can't tell me he has no other time to rehearse it in private with the band, especially with what looks like a HUGE break in touring coming up. Either way, i don't care enough about this to argue about it. I mean, sure he's an american in an american band with a patriotic album, selling modified american flags for high amounts of dough and overpriced shirts with the statue of liberty on them. It makes perfect sense he'd save all the songs we wanted to hear for Europe. lapis 11-20-2007, 09:26 AM I don't think that Billy plays the soundchecks with any thoughts or intentions concerning the people outside listening to them. I think as far as the band's awareness, soundcheck is rather "private". Floppy Nono 11-20-2007, 09:29 AM i agree with you, there is no thought and intention to the people outside when he plays those soundchecks. How cool would it have been to hear Mayonaise or Geek U.S.A. at the asheville shows? lapis 11-20-2007, 09:39 AM Personally, I'd rather see the band play what they want rather than what I might choose for them to play. I bet if they played everything they intended to play from Paris onwards people would still be bitching and moaning. I'm sure there will be a few more US shows before the end of the campaign. You'll get to hear the later stuff then. Remember, so far us Euro types haven't heard Set The Ray To Jerry, Starla, Perfect, Ava Adore, Bring The Light, P+C, etc yet. I'd like to hear all those songs live. skipgo 11-20-2007, 10:56 AM people will complain no matter what. JHeibel 11-20-2007, 11:13 AM Another glowing review: http://www.star-telegram.com/live/story/310004.html Band's back, and we're pumped By MALCOLM MAYHEW Special to the Star-Telegram GRAND PRAIRIE -- You cover shows for 15 years, you get to the point where, perhaps a little unfortunately, you can't wait for the show to end. Or, more often, you can't wait until deadline forces you to leave early to go file your review. "C'mon, deadline, c'mon deadline. Oh, it's deadline time. Sorry, Amy Grant. I gotta go. I'm gonna miss all your encores. Darn!" I sometimes feel this way about shows that I don't have to cover. My girlfriend and I went and saw one of the Police's reunion shows earlier this year and, six songs into their snoozer of a set, I started nudging her: "I'm ready whenever you are," "Don't you have to work tomorrow?," and then, finally, "I'll meet you in the parking lot." A person can only take so many seven-minute jams. I expected to feel the same way about the Smashing Pumpkins' reunion show Sunday night at a sold-out Nokia Theatre (and the final stop on their U.S. tour). I walked in ready to walk out, since, after all, only two members of the seminal '90s alt-rock band were back in the fold, singer/leader Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin; I hate it when bands do that. But they were so good, I felt like calling the office and saying, "You know that Smashing Pumpkins review? "Ain't gonna happen." During the few moments deadline allowed me to see, they played a few songs from their new album, Zeitgeist, and they sounded good, in sort of a creepy, atmospheric way. But for me, the defining moment came during their majestic rendition of Tonight, Tonight, during which Corgan changed the lyrics from "believe in me" to "believe in you." I thought that, coming from a guy who's made a name for himself as being notoriously self-important, that was incredibly melancholy -- and maybe it says something about where he is in life these days. So who's going with me to Serbia to see their next show? I'll drive. SlingeroGuitaro 11-20-2007, 11:19 AM people will complain no matter what. That's a great idea, man, and actually it's exactly what I was hoping would happen. The more different sources for different views of the show, the more interesting. I was the guy with the laptop, long ass extension cord, and my gf was the chick with the short hair with pink highlights. I remember waiting through most of the line near SlingeroGuitaro (red tiedye shirt right?). It was our first Pumpkins concert and very significant for us personally as we started talking on a smashing pumpkins message board (ZOMB). Both long time fans but we just never had the chance to see them. She in particular had been waiting about 11 years to see them with me probably somewhere about the same amount of time. It was an awesome show even if the setlist was pretty standard. I'm a bit of a bootleg junky though I reframed from getting anything but the first couple of recordings from this tour. We got great positions in the pit (just slightly to the left of Billy, right where he would come walk to when he went to his right) right up against the barricade. At the end of the show when he came over my gf thanked him and he looked at her and gave her a lil bow which made her night. The pit was just exceptional... usually I'm there just struggling to hold on and keep my bf from getting completely crushed but I was really able to enjoy myself in Dallas and even take a few pictures. Yeah, that was me with the, "But you're Billy Corgan!" line. And he looked PISSED after I said it. What had happened was, a bunch of people from Mexico were asking for a tour down there and in South America, but Billy said they had tried, basically, but got denied. Plus, allegedly, the world's economy is shit and World War III is looming. So again, he mentioned there wasn't anything he could do. So I said, "But you're Billy Corgan!" And he looked at me like I was an asshole for digging him in deeper, and goes, "It doesn't work that way." He also looked like he wanted to spit in my face.... All in all, it was pretty funny. I forget how lousy his sense of humor is (ever hear him on James' rap or see him in Vieuphoria?). Also, all the WWIII talk made me think of how Billy sounds exactly as crazy as my dad did back during Y2K....when he was stockpiling bottles of water for the impending doom that was to be the year 2000. Also, is it just me or did he seem a bit....uh....Howard Hughes after the show? Oh Billy! You're crazy! skipgo 11-21-2007, 07:03 AM Oh Billy! You're crazy! i can't argue with this. :) skipgo 11-21-2007, 07:06 AM Hey all!! Thought I'd check this message board out since I waited with you guys all day. I was the girl (the first Dallas native ha) wearing the black dress and boots.. It was nice to meet you all! and of course...I was lucky after the show! Ashley yes you were definitely lucky! so are you gonna tell us what happened back there? :) someone told me something about how you watched billy eat in his robe, lol. So you know my friend Josh was totally hitting on you all day, right? (at one point he told me he was glad I mentioned my husband, so you didn't think we were together). Anyway, when you went backstage he kept saying that billy was a cockblock. it was pretty funny. But yeah, congratulations on getting to go back there, that was awesome. lapis 11-21-2007, 08:15 AM he kept saying that billy was a cockblock. SlingeroGuitaro 11-21-2007, 10:28 AM Anyway, when you went backstage he kept saying that billy was a cockblock. it was pretty funny. But yeah, congratulations on getting to go back there, that was awesome. i believe it went something along the lines of "i was just cockblocked by billy corgan! what the fuck!?" skipgo 11-21-2007, 10:32 AM on the drive home, i told him he should look at it as a good thing; he and billy both tried to hook up with the same girl on the same day, that's kind of a cool little story for him to tell (though it would've been cooler if he'd gotten the girl in this story) :) SlingeroGuitaro 11-21-2007, 10:39 AM billy seconds.... mmm skipgo 11-21-2007, 10:42 AM  Armyofme 11-21-2007, 11:00 AM Yes the watching him eat in his robe thing is true. haha. He was a gentlemen and extremely gracious. When he called me on the phone( which was funny cause I was on the other line..and I was like "oh shit hang on I think Billy Corgan's calling on the other line"...to which they were like.."..what?")..he was like "hey! how are you?" and the first thing he asks is "I have to know, How old are you?" he said he had thought I looked 15 but was glad that I was atleast over 18 haha. he said he had seen me in the crowd and thought I was beautiful, but everytime he looked I started to get younger and younger. He had offered to take a pic with me..and we took 4 because he wanted to make sure they had come out (camera complications). He was an enjoyable lad. Yeah Josh was nice..but Billy Corgan wins all...besides..saying "I got cockblocked by Billy Corgan" is probably the coolest thing I've heard in awhile. Lesson of this story?? giving your phone number from the crowd ACTUALLY works sometimes. This is the first time I've done the number thing..There was two times I got to hang out wtih Interpol..but only because my friend was their lil driver guy and I knw what bar they were at..but when I went to the bar..Carlos D (the bassist) actually started talking to me first and hit on me. But this(BC) was way cooler than that. Oh and I'll tell Y'all this..for as much Billy Corgan has done and so on..He's been the nicest "rockstar" I've ever met. Interpol...for being a band of mediocre accomplishment..they are quite snobby (except for Carlos..but he loovvvves himself) and have a "been there done that" attitude. and everyone else I've hung out with is just boring. skipgo 11-21-2007, 11:07 AM Yeah Josh was nice..but Billy Corgan wins all... As much as I do love Josh, I think I will have to agree with you on this one. Glad to hear you had a nice time, I thought of you as "one of us" ;) Armyofme 11-21-2007, 11:11 AM As much as I do love Josh, I think I will have to agree with you on this one. We always knew the ladies are Billy's weak side. I remember a few years back there was some girl that told a similar story on the o-board but no one really believed her, but this time we have witnesses ;) Got to meet Jimmy as well? Armyofme 11-21-2007, 11:32 AM in college i played football.. they made me eat upwards of 7000 calories a day. i think i am retroactively paying for it now WHAT? 7000?! jesus christ. Well...I've gained 15 pounds this year..and with the holidays a-commin', that is going to increase. Armyofme 11-21-2007, 11:36 AM Very cool thing that happened to you, Armyofme. We always knew the ladies are Billy's weak side. I remember a few years back there was some girl that told a similar story on the o-board but no one really believed her, but this time we have witnesses ;) Got to meet Jimmy as well? Yes, everyone except Ginger :(. I even got to meet Billy's cousin who was about his age. Before I met her, he told me this elaborate story of how they were related and had two dif grandmothers and both had the "Corgan" look. It was cute :) Oh so those security guys that had come to get me and bring me back..weird. One was like "you ARE very pretty, I can see why Billy likes you" and then told me something like "it's about showing some skin"..and I was like "uh..something like that?" haha, oh creepy men. Gotta love them. SlingeroGuitaro 11-21-2007, 11:36 AM WHAT? 7000?! jesus christ. yeah, 7000. it sucked. my day was protein shake filled. but, sadly, 7000 was just enough to keep us from losing muscle mass. the bigger the person, the more they were required to eat. awesome that you got to meet everyone. congrats! skipgo 11-21-2007, 11:41 AM i found you quite lovely :) don't even get me started on weight gain  in college i played football.. they made me eat upwards of 7000 calories a day. i think i am retroactively paying for it now aw, thank you slingero  (i thought you were a very good-looking man yourself) seriously, i'm extremely upset about the weight thing. When I was 20 I weighed only 97 pounds. Then at 25 I got pregnant, and put on a lot of weight and I only got rid of about half of it; then I managed to put most of it back on at this desk job. It's a bummer. this was me at age 23, tiny: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/32/38329174_605afb3472_o.jpg now; not so much. armyofme, I don't think you have to worry, you look great.
