paranoid 06-27-2007, 12:42 AM may i just say:
STARLA, DROWN, HUMMER AND SILVERFUCK ALL IN ONE GOD DAMN SHOW.
dang.
and IN MY BODY.
dang again.
msevrens 06-27-2007, 12:42 AM "*Mama (new song)"
I already knew gerard was on billys balls but now billys on gerards! They should just gay it up all over the place. Oh wait that would be INCEST....
kelsome 06-27-2007, 12:44 AM Hmm...I pretty sure I heard "I don't mind" solo
Spankarine 06-27-2007, 12:44 AM of course i'm totally guessing on the order at the end there especially... i just figured any new song (Sad) had come at the end of the acoustic set, they've closed with Untitled a lot etc...
yeah, it seems to be "?" for the opener. wonder if jimmy got in on drums there.
markpregen 06-27-2007, 12:44 AM This is pretty interesting, i.e. opening "SET TWO" with Gossamer. What is up with the setbreak notation the last couple shows? Has the band taken a short break? Maybe they really are trying to inch their way into the jamband realm!
Overall looks like a fun ass show, what else is new?
yes on sunday it was a 10 minute break, for unknown reasons..
Virex Kills 06-27-2007, 12:45 AM Hmm...I pretty sure I heard "I don't mind" solo
Hmmm...could it be that the "sad song" is actually I Dont Mind?
paranoid 06-27-2007, 12:46 AM yes on sunday it was a 10 minute break, for unknown reasons..
what are you suggesting?
kelsome 06-27-2007, 12:46 AM Gossamer was awesome tonight. Loooong synth and guitar part then it busted into the intense rocking. I don't remember it being played like that before.
And they *******d "the End" in silverfuck again tonight
markpregen 06-27-2007, 12:48 AM what are you suggesting?
that we don't know why they are taking 10 minute breaks in the middle of the set? unless you know.. i can understand if one is acoustic, one is electric like the MCIS tour.. or just call set 2 encore 1 and be done with it
Preston 06-27-2007, 12:48 AM is there any video of the new songs, or maybe some lyrics?
kelsome 06-27-2007, 12:48 AM Hmmm...could it be that the "sad song" is actually I Dont Mind?
I think so....but those lists seem out of order...damnit i wish my phone would have saved my messages.
He did it during the his solo bit.
Spankarine 06-27-2007, 12:49 AM 10 minute break haha... pot break while billy does solo acoustic.
Virex Kills 06-27-2007, 12:50 AM I think so....but those lists seem out of order...damnit i wish my phone would have saved my messages.
He did it during the his solo bit.
Ya, the lists that are posted are simply thrown together based on songs that were named in no particular order. Except for set 1 and the encores.
kelsome 06-27-2007, 12:50 AM 10 minute break haha... pot break while billy does solo acoustic.
No way, man. Security is tight.
Someone actually got arrested for stealing someone's camera tonight.
kelsome 06-27-2007, 12:51 AM Ya, the lists that are posted are simply thrown together based on songs that were named in no particular order. Except for set 1 and the encores.
SO this isn't from the OP? I must have missed the first 2 or 3 songs tonight...
Spankarine 06-27-2007, 12:52 AM Opening with "?"... Jimmy almost had to have added his drum part. I can't imagie doing an opening song with no Jimmy.
Spankarine 06-27-2007, 12:53 AM OP is very late. They've posted "Set I" only... after that it's mostly guesswork

DamingR 06-27-2007, 12:58 AM Very good show. Awesome to get Drown, Hummer, Starla, and Rocket in one show. Billy was in a good mood and tore the shit out of Silverfuck.
I videotaped the whole show. Most people were cool. If you are standing in front of somebody who is obviously trying to do a good job of taping, have some fucking decency people. Gheez.
Plus, I think I am the only person who taped the whole thing. Probably lots of garbage cell phone clips on YouTube shortly. Ghee, can't wait. You can see many of these "tapers" in my video since they had the decency to hold them up over their heads and right in my line of sight. Thanks, people, it really adds to the video!
On a more positive note most of the people were really cool and some guys helped me out with the taping. Tomorrow night I'm going back with my monopod since they seem to let smaller stuff like that in. If anyone else is video taping (I really hope so) go to Best Buy and get the $30 monopod with the belt clip attachment. You will need it. You cannot hold a camera up for 3 hours and maintain any kind of quality.

Thank you for taping! Where were you in the house?
DamingR 06-27-2007, 01:03 AM Guys you are missing a ton of songs on that setlist. The show was 3.5 hours.
Yes, there was a 15 minute intermission between sets. Billy also teased that he hoped he wasn't trying our patience playing so many songs.

Can you confirm 7 Shades? It could be that Angie got 7 Shades and Come On mixed up. :smoke:
TicalFSU 06-27-2007, 01:04 AM they played both back to back

FOB, just left of center. I've got a lot of tops of heads in the shots, but it's very watchable. Audio is decent, too. Panasonic GS 250 3CCD. Very good in low light.
It's shaky, but it's the best I could do without a mono/tri pod.

DamingR 06-27-2007, 01:07 AM Guys, I'm out. Will upload the show hopefully in the next week. Got some travel time and it will take a while to synch up with the HQ audio. I will let you all know how tomorrow night goes.
If you have tickets to one of these shows, for the love of God, go get a damn video camera and tape it! It's open taping! We should be pulling 3 cam matrixes!

I don't know, but there was an unusually high number of people leaving early tonight. Lots of old people, too...and families. It seemed like some people only went in for 20-30 minutes then left.
There certainly were a lot people "with the band" that I saw (they had green stickers on). Several people were labeled under "video" and I actually saw one guy come outside to smoke who had a professional/prosumer camcorder. Saw a wardrobe person.
Those 7 or so Pizzas they brought in were for them and the band, I guess.

People shouldn't have to adapt to you. They paid for their ticket just like you did and are entitled to enjoying themselves just as you are. You must adapt and find a better spot. I'm not going to have some retard with a camera dictate how I enjoy a show. Now if the person in front of you was punching you in a face and screaming, "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" directly into the camera, then that's a different issue. But if you catch some accidental elbows and some people singing along next to you, that's the breaks, pal.
kelsome 06-27-2007, 01:40 AM Did they hand out posters again tonight?
yes
pumpkinxyu 06-27-2007, 01:46 AM i'm not sure if etiquette would dictate including this in the 6/24 thread, but since it hasn't been mentioned in my perusals, and since only about 3 or 4 other people around me could hear the soundcheck...i figured i'd start a new post.
billy and lisa were rehearsing "Death From Above" for a while before the show on Sunday. i was hoping they'd play it. it was a softer, piano ballad (unless what i heard isn't representative). he repeats the lyric "death from above" many times. VERY good song. billy and jeff also spent time rehearsing the song that billy debuted that night, known as "I Don't Mind" on the setlist.
and while i'm here, i'd like to comment on the fact that not only were the 6/23 and 6/24 shows fantastic, but the Orange Peel and its staff deserve to be commended for really taking care of the band and its fans for this very bizarre but extremely great experience in Asheville. i can't wait to go back for the show on 7/2.
JRiordan 06-27-2007, 01:53 AM I was hoping "Death From Above" would be a "crush you into dust" song... but as long as it's good, I won't complain :)

Silverfuck
Well, this was my first Pumpkins concert, and as such, it was a wonderful experience. I do agree that the show was very loud, to the point where a lot of the guitar lines blended together and were difficult to distinguish, which was unfortunate. I was impressed with the general energy level of the band, especially Billy, Jeff, and Jimmy. All in all, it was a great experience, although I can understand why some people might find the setlist underwhelming.
A few notes:
- I'm probably missing something in the latter half of the second set, or have some of the second set's songs mixed up. I'm pretty sure all the songs they played are listed.
- They definitely played Come On Let's Go and 7 Shades of Black. I'm pretty sure they were back to back.
- There was no distinct Porcelina tease before Silverfuck. There was a lot of noodling in D before the song, which made it sound like he was starting, at times, Shame, To Sheila, and Porcelina.
- I'm a fan of In My Body and love GATGC, so I enjoyed the first part of the first set. The new version of Blue Skies is decent, but I don't like how the chord progression does not change when moving into the chorus. I do agree that the crowd really wasn't into it until they started playing Bullet, though.
- Billy had some humorous banter about drugs and local hippie drum circles before Starla. I don't remember it well enough to reproduce it, but it should surface on a recording.
cork_soaker 06-27-2007, 02:19 AM let's carve MAYO GEEKS USA into our faces with razors and have a nice group suicide, eh?

there is a theory that they will not play mayonaise (or I am one, soma, plume, farewell and goodnight) because James co-wrote those songs..

only complaint i have about the orange peel is that the beer cups should have lids kinda like sippy cup lids, so the fucking drunk morons will not spill them all over the floor, it literally took 10 minutes for some people to peel guitar picks off of the floor because of all the beer., i mean hey i love a challenge, but fuck.

jjbjjbjjb 06-27-2007, 03:15 AM How was the show? Looks interesante
Interesting, definitely. "Good", not necessarily. But the residency is definitely about taking chances. Tonight it didn't work as a whole, though there were some good moments. United States was a great moment tonight. Untitled was pretty hot. Blue Skies Bring Tears has gotten a lot of respect from the crowd every show, considering its lack of hooks and especially considering its awful setlist placement tonight. Bullet with Butterfly Wings benefitted from its breaking-the-ice placement in the setlist. The Crying Tree of Mercury (solo acoustic by BC) has been very well received both nights he's played it; it's got the feel of the piano demo version. Starla was much appreciated.
But the show never gained momentum. The setlist ordering just didn't work. If the same songs were played in an ideal order, the show could have been 100 times better. As it was, they were clearly trying for a sort of quasi-acoustic/psychedelic first set (the intro music wasn't the music that has introduced every show so far, instead it was an old-timey piano number) followed by a sort of second beginning to the show (the 2nd set was introduced by the usual show-intro music). However, starting the 2nd set with Gossamer, another 20 minute new song, was a mistake and basically that was the last chance for the show to gain momentum. To his credit, though, Billy clearly realized the mistake and spent the rest of the show in apologetic/outreach mode, trying extra-hard to bring the rock, especially on the aforementioned Untitled, as well as on Silverfuck.
Gossamer (extended version "there's a war across the usa version")
it's two zero zero seven ok?

JRiordan 06-27-2007, 03:19 AM The comments on the setlist order and placement, and the short setbreak, are all the typical things that jamband fans talk about. Funny to hear this in the SP world. I would not in the least be pissed if they wanted to start a show out slow/psychedelic (as long as it was good music). Although, for my first show in 7 years, I am pretty ready to go balls to the wall rocking ;)
jjbjjbjjb 06-27-2007, 03:28 AM 2SP is definitely sort of jam-band. Evidence: new 20-minute live-only song, Jeff/Billy dueling guitars in several different songs, the new Blue Skies Bring Tears...

MisterSquishyHalo 06-27-2007, 04:14 AM Ma Belle was on the 'white' board I believe.
MisterSquishyHalo 06-27-2007, 04:17 AM three new songs added to the mix, that is 10 over the first 3 shows.
Rickpat12 06-27-2007, 06:24 AM Virex, is that your dinner creation, it's excellent although missing the PB&J encore.
Travpumpkin 06-27-2007, 06:33 AM What exactly does a show gaining momentum mean? To me thats saying that the band didnt play their songs in the correct standard order like 3-4 fast short songs first then some slow numbers etc...Isnt that the whole point of the 9 night residence. I see the point but come on. My dissapointment is in the amount of different songs. I mean the whole way it was worded in the original press release. I thought we might even get an old album played almost all the way through or something. I'll def take what they are giving with the setlists but come on. Are they saving anything for the Fillmore run?? All i can do is hope by the end of the run things get more interesting. I have been shocked to look at these 3 setlists, they are basically the same songs. The order is truly all that gets changed. So as far as the 20 minute jams good work. I think it is funny they are being called a jam band now. One of my biggest beefs withthe band back in the day is they were to safe with setlists and jamming and at least they have changed that aspect now.

TicalFSU 06-27-2007, 07:10 AM It sounds great. Though through some songs he is like "i'm not singing, you bitches sing." The sound in the front of the orange peel can be overwhelming. Sometimes you cant hear the vocals or the soloing....Jimmy can be a dominant force.
if there is a llama 06-27-2007, 07:21 AM The dinner setlist is much more entertaining than the other show threads where people just complained alot.
Is it too late to add my dinner? It was a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. I ate it alone, as I had come up with it day of the meal. So it was a little rough, but I made it through it after a few mistakes (like no condiments at first).

They've played Daydream and Crush. Drown also counts as Gish era, and Translucent is pre-Gish. They've also been heard rehearsing Bury Me and Frail & Bedazzled. Overall, I think we'll wind up getting more 90-92 stuff than they did on the past two album tours. :)

Virex Kills 06-27-2007, 12:11 PM why would the orange peel have reported it as mama then? i'd imagine they would have access to the literal setlist...
Ya, thats what Im thinking. The Orange Peel posted what was supposed to be the setlist, because it *******d Winterlong and Shame. They wouldnt just make that up. So my guess is that they are going off the actual setlist.
Now, where spfc got their info, I dont know. Perhaps mama is a reworking of Ma Belle? I dont know, but Id be inclined to ditch Ma Belle in favour of Mama.
wouldn't be the first time that an alternate title was used on a setlist.
Day dreaming Of Darcy 06-27-2007, 12:19 PM We listened to the recording last night and could clearly hear two audible words "Belle" and "ma," but listening this morning it sounds like mama.
Since we've never heard of a song called mama and the orange peel had not posted a setlist, we decided it was probably ma belle.
EDIT: We got ma belle from the whiteboard.. it's possible the name of the song has changed all together.

orange peel had though, they posted the first set rather quickly but it seems the rest wasn't there where i went to bed last night. i find that odd, didn't they up the setlist right away after the show? maybe billy switched the ordering/songs themselves that was played last night at the last minute.
Virex Kills 06-27-2007, 12:30 PM Ya...well, set 1 was posted as soon as set 1 ended. So Im guessing it was an attempt for some sort of confirmation of sorts. I mean, for the first show, they had posted the whole setlist 30 minutes into the show. The rest of their setlist for this last show wasnt posted till...1 hour ago.

they've already deleted the multiple other threads that were created, so no point in making a new one.. ideally the OP (original poster, not orange peel) would edit the final setlist into their first post.. i think it was queundoguero?

I'm really liking "?" Jimmy's in this one too, even better than Day 2's version.
sherm 06-27-2007, 03:51 PM great show
really fucking loud. i still cant hear.
ginger changed clothes during their short intermission. she was wearing a black top before. she rocked out hard on doomsday clock (the entire band did) and during the last bit of silverfuck. during silverfuck she looked like she may be having relations with her base. it was very nice.
billy made some jokes about him discovering some of his crew indulged in the mary jane. he also ribbed jeff for his apparent affection for the same and his willingness to participate in a drum circle. he also used drum circle in place of a lyric at some point. cant remember the song. his banter before starla *******d him talking about how he wrote the song while on lsd and drinking tequila.
overall it was a solid setlist. im not a huge fan of the machina era tracks so it did drag a bit at the beginning. but fucking hell they played drown and starla (so happy to catch this after hearing it was played sat) so i cant really complain.

Spankarine 06-27-2007, 04:30 PM yeah, the vid to Mama/Ma Belle sucks elderly monkey balls. but it's something, so who can complain *much*.
however, man... "?" is turning out to be a GREAT song don't you think?
it's hard to hear, but Jeff's guitar is fitting and pumpkiny, and tho' jimmy is prolly still working on the drums there was at least one moment of coolness there as well. overall, it's turning out to be a great idea to write songs in situ.
tho' "I Don't Mind" seems most fitting just like it was i think. Did they do anything different with it last nite?
Also, unless it's "Mama" and new... they didn't actually DO a song written that day did they? So perhaps another noob tune tonite.
Rickpat12 06-27-2007, 04:34 PM Yeah if it's Mama, its a new one otherwise no songs written that morning. And damn, I'm really looking forward to seeing just how "?" forms. It's amazing already. I second the question on if anything different was Done to "I Don't Mind" on Day 3.
themadcaplaughs 06-27-2007, 05:23 PM I have actually read all 23 pages of this thing...
I never was a fan of "In My Body," but seem people really seem to love it and that is all that mattters. I personally like Glass & the Ghost Children so I cannot complain about that...
I expected the first 3-5 days to be like this, playing mainly the Europe setlist with new one or two new things a night. It now seems that after the 26th show, Billy has purged himself of those songs (3.5 hours!) so I am thinking we may be seeing Geek U.S.A., Bury Me, Jellybelly, The Aeroplane Flies High (Turns Left, Looks Right), etc. soon enough.
bellis123 06-27-2007, 09:59 PM I was there and I thought the show was real good. The music was real tight. Jeff and ginger both play there instruments very well. Ginger gives me a boner!! In my body sounded really good. I love all the reverb and I also dig alot of machina/machina 2 stuff.
The crowd was lame. What happen to all the generation x'ers they all suck now!! Corgan was fucking rocking out and everyone just stood there with their thumbs up their asses. not even and pushing or anything and I was pretty close to the stage. I sure wish the crowd would have been more into it would have made the show that much better. I guess I am used to a good punk rock show. Oh well.

Oh well.[QUOTE]
I agree with all you said here, especially the lack of energy exhibited by the fans. It's a god damn shame nowadays that slight headbanging and hands in the air are the only "acceptable" ways to rock out at SP concerts anymore. This is what I did, and quite frankly I don't understand how people can just remain still while taking part in these amazing shows. In My Body turned out to be a kick ass song live, I'm sure I wasn't the only one who went "'What the fuck?" when it was rumored they were rehearsing it. Lastly, of course Ginger is hot, but my personal preference is for Lisa, I just saw somethin' very sexual when she was strummin' away on the keys.
Chuck=Zero 06-28-2007, 09:04 PM MAYBE THIS NIGHT'S SHOW WILL END UP ON A DVD...
I don't know if anyone else who was there for this show noticed, but I noticed what seemed to be a very professional camera man filming the whole show. This guy had full access to the stage; he was filming where security was standing and I even saw him up on stage filming behind Jimmy.

I asked him and he said it was just to record the "creative process" and to have a record of the shows. He said it was easier to do that shooting for a specific purpose.

Billy discussed that they were filming a DVD in San Fran, but also that Asheville performances could end up on it:

We'll see if it actually happens. I'm pretty sure we'll be getting a lot of fan-taped DVDs a lot sooner, which is awesome
Cool As Ice Cream 06-29-2007, 01:51 AM lots of shows have been professionally filmed so far. there's no way that they will all end up on dvd, so don't get your hopes up. remember the adore tour? and how no dvds came out?
Forgotten Child 06-29-2007, 02:38 PM Let me say it again and again:

This is a high-quality audio recording of Tuesday's show.
Rickpat12 06-29-2007, 04:46 PM no, I totally agree, it is high-quality it just seems really quiet? Am I the only one who thinks so?
Pizza Club 06-30-2007, 02:19 AM I'm bumping this cause I uploaded whatever videos I had of this show.

They aren't as good as the next day's.
Chuck=Zero 06-30-2007, 06:11 AM Around the 2:45 left in the Silverfuck clip, they go on into this add-on to the song. Having experienced this twice (Tues. & Wed.) I definetly remember at the same point in the song on both nights I swear I could actually feel my ear drums being damaged. I don't think I had come into contact with anything that fucking loud before. I still have a constant ringing in my left ear.
ciGarski 06-30-2007, 05:54 PM that zero video is unlistenable with that cock sucker singing every line into the video camera.
ciGarski 06-30-2007, 05:56 PM maybe corgan will stop the costume soon.
were you alive during MCIS and machina eras?
TicalFSU 06-30-2007, 06:54 PM did Scissors for Lefty actually open the show? they posted on craigslist that they needed gear from a fan in order to perform..
Yea something about how they got the gig at the last minute and took a redeye flight to get to Asheville. Those fuckers stayed at the same hotel as us. Man they are horrible in a Culture club/Pansy division kind of way. :erm:
