View Full Version : So I've cut way down on coffee, way up on tea

Yeah yeah, I know they both have caffeine, but the tea seems to give me a much longer sustained energy boost, and the flavors have more variety. I used to be a big tea drinker years ago, I guess I forgot how much I liked it.

Of course I still have a cup of Joe in the morning.

i've been thinking of doing the same... i usually drink 3 medium iced coffees from dunkin donuts a day, and it's really starting to mess with me

I enjoy spearmint tea probably loads more than I should. I can't find loose leaf spearmint tea anywhere around here, though. I've never been able to enjoy coffee, even after being a barista for almost a year. I can appreciate the taste of a well brewed / poured coffee or espresso drink, but something about it just tears my body apart and I'm doubled over in cramps in less than 5 minutes.

For my birthday last year a friend gave me a jar of mugwort tea. It's supposed to be a dream enhancing tea, but it just gives me bellyaches. =[

Tea also has so many health benefits besides the energy boost. Along with all the antioxidants and whatnot, it actually fights cavities. It is made of win.

I am something of a tea dork. I just started a tea review blog.

Iced tea of any kind of vile, especially that "sweet tea" shit Southerns think is so goddamn great.

Agreed. I don't understand what the point of that disgusting concoction is. It would be more expedient to just pour sugar syrup directly into your gullet, since you can barely taste the tea anyway.

well it would just be sugar water if you removed the tea, but yes, i agree.

Yes! Unsweet tea for the win. I drink Ito En's unsweet jasmine tea every day and keep huge pitchers of unsweetened gunpowder green around in the summer.

I disagree. I mean I do not like the south's "sweet tea" but iced tea can in fact be very refreshing. Especially if you fresh brew it. I use Splenda in mine

And yes, another in favor of unsweet iced tea. When I still lived in the grueling California summer heat, I'd brew my beloved spearmint tea in the sun all day, then pop some ice cubes in that baby and glug glug glug. So refreshing.

I don't really use it all that often. It's either that or Equal, and I don't really have iced tea on a regular basis

i went the opposite way though. i used to drink tons of tea and a little coffee, and now it's the other way around. don't really know why.

i'm rockin' some spearmint iced tea right now.

i'm trying to drink a lot more tea lately after a friend told me his doctor told him that there's a strong possiblity that the reason why he doesn't get hangovers even after drinking a lot is 'cause he drinks so much green tea and so his body has gotten really good at flushing toxins.

so, here's to fewer hangovers... :smoke:

I also find this to be true. I drink at least a liter of green tea a day - right now, I'm having cold gyokuro - and don't remember the last time I had a real hangover after drinking. Woohoo.

a friend of mine is the same way. i've seen him drink a bottle of vodka, puke his ass off, pass out and wake up the next morning like nothing happened.

if i drink a few beers and pass out, i wake up feeling like a mack truck hit me.

It is possible to be allergic to beer, like the hops or something? I can drink liquor like nobody's business, but a lot of beers make me so queasy from just one or two bottles that I have a 24-hour long sick period.

I love iced tea... I like it either sweet or unsweetened... but I am from the south. And if you are drinking sweet tea that is just 90% sugar then you are having bad sweet tea. Mmmm on a hot day some sweet tea with some mint leaves is awesome.

And I usually have a cup of coffee in the morning. Sometimes I drink the coffee made in the breakroom or I'll go to Starbucks and get an.... iced nonfat nowhip white mocha.
