View Full Version : For those that have heard the album..

For those of you that have heard the album how do you rank the studio versions against the live performances of the new stuff? Are they better or more enjoyable than the live stuff to you? How different do the songs sound with billy's backup vocals? Do any of you wish that ginger's vocals could have been used? I mainly want to hear what you guys now think after a little bit of time. Also for those that haven't heard it what do you guys think about the scenario of finally getting the album and finding it to be way over produced kinda like Machina. The single tarantula doesn't point to much towards that but the doomsday clock clip did seem kinda slick or polished to me.

the album is better as for the first time I can think of Billy uses lots of vocals layering to create some pretty cool effects..it really took me by suprise. Alot of people are going to love it..

I haven't heard the album for two weeks, but I will check on friday :)

I remember it has that cool double guitar harmonic thing like Queen :)

When peforming Starz Billy should raise each of his arm while singing the intro verse and alternate arms in each line like he's telling a story. I thought he'd do this but when i saw a video he didnt :(

it was slightly annoying during the Brussels gigs when during certain parts of songs he would 'play act' by this I mean when he mentions 'love', 'heart' or 'you' he would point at his heart, the crowd etc

do you really need a 7th person to tell you how awesome some songs are, or how mediocre other songs are? even if Kahlo is telling the truth, he's obviously going to a listening party kind of thing, so he's not going to get repeat listens at his leisure.

So if thats the case, then you can't say for sure that live Starz is better than the studio Starz. Shut up already Kahlo :D

After all, I haven't heard anyone say that aside from you. ::hopes for the best::

well, in general SP's live versions are all >>>> studio versions, imo.

but yea, the most noticeable difference would be the layering of billy's vocals to make up for no ginger or lisa on the cd.

i think songs like that's the way and neverlost sound much more dyanmic on the album than they do live. these 2 in particular, seem kinda flat compared to some of the other live versions of Z songs.

Are you going to give us an in-depth review of the album, Davin?

Implosion
06-06-2007, 02:05 PM
I wouldn't say that any given Pumpkins song overall is better live than in the studio. There are elements of songs that are better live, other elements that are better in the studio. Most of the jammy, heavy shit like X.Y.U., or Heavy Metal Machine is much better live because those songs are driven by crushing live energy. But take the intro to Thru the Eyes of Ruby -- that guitar symphony will never be recreated adequately live. And I don't think I've ever heard a live version of Here Is No Why that's as good as on the record.

That said, as I mentioned buried deep in another post, I've heard fragments of the whole album (some songs more than others, I was pressed for time). I think Starz is mostly better on the record; Doomsday Clock is much better. United States is better live (for reasons I mentioned above). It just depends on what aspects of a song are important to you.
