Any hope that there will be something new on the setlist? We know the pumpkins can pull it out (evident with today's 4 new songs)

Honestly i'm not sure why people are so worried about this
with those 9 shows at the the orange peel and the fillmore

do you people honestly think they're gonna just keep playing the same stuff over and over?

when have the pumpkins ever done 9 shows in a row at once venue?
further more, when have they ever done it TWICE
and FURTHER MORE..when have they ever done it TWICE in a 2 months span???

never, never, never

They are going to play all sorts of misc songs
i fully expect at LEAST 50-60 songs played just between these 2 venues alone

and if not, as much as i have loved the shows so far
then after these dates i'll stop worrying about hearing new live recordings
and i'll stop coming back to netphoria

because the pumpkins will be, somewhat of a lost cause

no band in their right mind would ever play the same 30 songs over and over at the same 2 venues

ppl arent bugging out because they dont think pumpkins will vary their setlist at all, i think everyone knows taht there will be interesting songs AT THE RESIDENCIES, but what about the rest of the tour? i want to go to a show expecting something different from teh setlist that has been played thus far

well, i'm not sure if worried is the correct word, but if you already went to a handful of european shows and you're going to berlin today, you might be a bit worried that the setlist will be identical again. i guess that's a possible reason why. (and then it doesn't matter how crazy those residency shows will be.)

that is true, if you are able to go to a bunch of european shows
then you'd want them to be different

i've just never had the chance to go to shows at many different venues
since i live in canada...i have pretty much 3 choices

ottawa (which they pretty much never play), montreal and toronto

i was fucking floored when i hear him at the rock am festival during bullet. i know its been discussed in that thread, but that scream was the one i'd been hearing about. everyone who'd heard him this year said his vocals are awesome and he can still scream, but that was the fucking proof for me. he can do whatever he wants.

Yeah, I remember that exact scream. It was pretty early in the webcast. As soon as he did that scream, my back shuddered and I felt some tingles. So much faith was restored in that one moment.

Yeah I think davin said there we're another 4-5 songs that we're heard in rehearsal's when the band was in chicago.

to clarify, there is only 1 song remaining from the rehearsal space that 2 people heard on different nights -- Starla.

Then there's With Every Light which appears on an alternate setlist for Paris.

The other 3 songs mentioned were songs played during the Jeff and Ginger auditions (Ruby, Bodies, GeekUSA). and Muzzle was an audition song too...but they've obviously played that already.

Nice. Drown added to the set. Was it acoustic or eletric?

And here is something to consider. Since Jeff was a big fan of Gish/SD, He might know how to play some of the songs? Might be able to increase the catalog of songs that are there.

Uli Jon Roth joined Billy during Glass AND Gossamer.

jesus effin christ. i'm sure there are multiple recordings for this show. have some patience. most people have a life outside of sp, you know.

when you're asking for bootlegs one day (or even one week) after the gig, you are showing a lack of respect. you're on the receiver's end, so, please, don't be so pushy.

it's not because all the bootlegs of this tour have come out so fast, you should start taking this as a standard.

Fucking MTV generation. Twenty-nine song setlist only nine shows into the tour and people are complaining that we haven't heard 270 different songs yet. You fuckers seem to forget that they're touring different cities across the globe for different audiences -- not a different show every other night for 150 queers on a message board.

valvolux

OK here's my review of the show. To sum it up, it wasn't anywhere near as good as Paris in terms of energy or performance. Billy sounds tired already...his voice was a little raspy as per the majority of the 2000 tour. Jimmy was fantastic....Ginger is fucking hot and has developed some extremely sexy dancing since Paris....Jeff....well you'd be hard pressed knowing Jeff was even out there.

The highlight for me was once again Hummer...as for my fav moment, that came during Gossamer when Roth stuffed up by coming in too early fairly close to the start of the song...then Billy looks up as if you just fucked up dickhead, then he realises it was Roth then looks straight back down as if nothing happened. Edit: There was another piss funny moment when Billy was introducing a song, I think For God and Country maybe, and don't quote me but he said something along the lines that the song was dedicated to the idiot leaders of the USA, and the idiot leader of Germany...Gerhard Schröder. Then you could see Jimmy shouting at Billy to which he turned around and Jimmy kindly informed him that the leader of Germany is no longer Gerhard Schröder but Angela Merkel....I#ve always though Billy should just stick to depressing and love songs. The lowlight in terms of songs was Gossamer.....christ way too much guitar wank in there for my liking. I know Roff is a legend and all, but it was highly repeptative and dare I say boring. That song dragged on and on and whilstz it was quite funny that Billy, Jeff, Roth and Jimmy were all sort of daring each other to try and finish the song...I'm praying that it significantly shortened if released. The lowlight moment were the Germans in the moshpit - it was a pretty muggy day and these fuckers just have no regard for those around them. I lost about 5kg worth of sweat by song 3, and the tidy bird that was next to me passed out after the first song after taking an elbow to the jaw.

BTW it wasn't really Drown into Hummer....there was definately about a 5-10 second pause between songs. When Drown came on I was like awesome it's Drown....but after the chorus I was like dam, it's just same old Drown.

Setlist was pretty good, but I don't think i'll bother seeing them again until they start changing it up a bit more. I know the other band members have to learn the tunes, but since Billy is doing a bit of solo mid setlist, i#m sure he can mix it up a little. Unless he's forgotten the songs.

Kahlo

You people are spoilt - you would honestly prefer it if the band played for a hour and a half every night but changed their set each time? They've only done about 7 shows since they've been back, for God's sake give them a chance to feel out the audiences and get their feet instead of mewling about them playing the same songs. They did this on every other tour if you didn't notice, it's always going to be the same at the beginning. Wait until the Euro leg is over - if they're still playing the same set in a year THEN you have a reason to complain!

Cool As Ice Cream
06-07-2007, 07:10 AM
i don't think anyone is complaining.

maybe they're just stating one of the reasons why they don't follow the band around for weeks? you know, without complaining about it.
of course it's normal that they won't play much more songs than the 30 or so they played in those first extra long sets. i'm sure everyone understands. if you expect more, you're fooling yourself.

New Art Rioter
06-07-2007, 07:43 AM
Mmm maybe in this thread that could apply, but others I've seen, some people seem to have this crazy attitude that strikes of being greedy... wanting, almost expecting the band to play totally different setlists every night like they never went away. Perhaps it's because they were gone for seven years... the fans are so starved of shows/news etc they want to jump onto the new stuff as quickly as possibe.

Kahlo
06-07-2007, 07:58 AM
I think that is accurate.

HorseflyKing

Jeff and Ginger don't know any of the other songs

valvolux
06-07-2007, 09:12 AM
I'm not saying that they should change the set list completely every night, I was more or less hoping that in a 3 hour gig that they would change it more. Both venues were relatively intimate, and it's at those sort of gigs that you hope for a few special treats to be thrown in that might differentiate that particular gig from another....stadium and festival gigs is where you expect the standard set list. It just takes one song to make a gig feel special...maybe drown was that song but it just didn't make it special for me.

Having said that there probably was as much difference between the Paris and Berlin shows as I could've hoped.....just not the difference I personally was after. I went to the Berlin gig because I guessed that in the amount of time between Paris and Berlin there would be sufficient difference in the set list to keep it fresh...it's just I'm not that big a fan of a lot of the new material nor songs like Lucky 13 so for me it wasn't as exciting. Sure it's greedy if I ask for Billy to ditch the solo 33 in favour of say Crush, cause i'm sure all the people in Berlin who weren't in Paris loved seeing it...but hey, I can only hope. Another thing I hope is that the fella who was standing 2 people back with his camcorder releases his video....cause he fell right on top of the girl who copped a massive elbow to the snoz....mind you the guy was about 5ft tall so i'm sure the rest of the video is just backs of heads.

By the way, I haven't heard a lot of the more recent shows....but during TT at the "the impossible is possible tonight tonight" etc. section it was just Ginger singing the second tonight....I thought that sounded rather gay.

"It's good to be back in Berlin, cause that's where we are".

Rockisdead

They're mainly playing for the audience at the gigs and not for people at netphoria. Many of the people in the audience would most probably be dissappointed if they played a set full of b-sides, new songs and skip every single ever released.
