ever since davin pointed out the bass in the coffin from the promo video i think i have taken natural awareness of some of the weird stuff. the Zero on the guitar strap, but then i was watching the DVD of the recent show and i was like uhhh..

<img src="http://www.monteit.com/iha_guitar.jpg">

it was quicker to take the screen shot from youtube then off the dvd

but i knew i had seen this guitar a lot in the past..

very strange indeed monte...good catch.

i was told that billy actually owns the black bass with rat stickers that darcy used in the bwbw video.......but it seems odd that he would own a guitar that james used so often and on so many different occasisons.

i'm not a guitar guru -- could this be a common guitar of sometype? or is there some definite weirdness going on here...

billy said during the SD era that he thought the gibson complimented the strat very well. that's why he had iha use one. it's no suprise that he still keeps that tradition for sound purposes.

It's a black gibson, wow... how rare.

My friend has one too, maybe he's really asian in disguise?

For the sake of argument let's just assume that Billy owns it, so Gerard wastes his money on about 10 of them.

Most likely a different year. Iha's was an '84 if i remember right. Jeff's looks to be in much better condition.

wow, that photo of James in the 80's--that Marshall amp would go for something like $1700 these days, the cabinet for $700 or so and the Les Paul for about $1200. the 90's brought rock to the burbs but man they really inflated the price gear in the process...

i bought a 50 watt sovtek midget for $325 a few months back. one of the guys from Catherine told me he bought a 100 watter in 1991 for $100.

It would make sense that he would play a similar set-up to match the tone of the old songs

theghostchild
06-04-2007, 01:48 PM
Yes, the Gibson Les Paul is as about as common as it gets...I am sure Billy is wanting the similar tones for certain songs

Les Paul Customs are very commonly used guitars in rock. I expect black is a popular colour too. They look best in black imo.

well yeah... he's playing the same guitar parts as iha did so of course he looks like an iha impersonator. what do you want him to do? backflips on stage while making up his own tracks for the songs that are already written? iha doesn't want to be in the band, he is gone. get over it.

I really wish you'd stop calling the new members "cheap." You can say you don't like them. You can say they're not as good as the originals. But there's no reason to pretend that the only reason they're there is because of their (very) slight passing resemblance to the original members. For as big a James fan as you claim to be, I don't see how you can say Jeff looks anything like him. They both have asian features (though Jeff much less so than James, as far as I can tell) black hair and play a Gibson, the similarities pretty much begin and end there.

We've heard the new members play. They're good. That's why they're in the band. Like it or don't, but don't run the new guys down just because you can.

If you think James Iha and D'arcy were nothing more than just "asian guy" and "girl," then I don't see why you're so upset they're gone. If you think James and D'arcy were more than just those labels, then I don't see why you can't allow Jeff and Ginger to be more than those labels as well.

Whatever. Think what you want. If you want to be unfair to the new members, its all up to you.

The Omega Concern

to Billy's credit, he looked back on the path and realized the biggest mistake they made was continuing the MCIS tour without Jimmy. I guess it disrupted what was a very natural path for the original members and forever changed it's destiny.

They did give it shot to get it ALL back, with the Arising Tour, but fate was not on their side and the foundation within Darcy had changed and the rest is history.

This thread has gotten off the subject.

The guitar probably belongs to the band. Bands have arsenals of guitars, basses, amps, and so on. If you reference the Metallica movie, they have a room of nothing but guitars and basses just to have while recording or being on the road. The band own it. Once the band breaks up, I dunno.
