hey guys... ive been lurking here for years and never registered....but after seeing the album cover today, i had no choice. I know most of you guys don't care about anything but complaining...but I'm with a lot of people in terms of the cover. While the illustration has promise....the typography is terrible. I edited it myself to try and make it more interesting...what do you guys think?

Well it makes more of an impact for one.

For "simple" art the original is quite busy, there really was no need to put all that detail into an internationally famous statue.

all his stuff is very bold and straight-forward, and simplistic yet meaningful.

My only issue with this one is that it looks a lot more like the rise of the statue of liberty than its demise. In the original one, the statue looks like its pretty much screwed. The shadow is more triumphant, and could easily be relegated to the realm of american imperialism.

I think the edited version really does look more pleasing to the eye....however, i think the revisions take away from the meaning of the artwork. Perhaps the artist tried to keep the 'smashing pumpkins' font very minimalistic and plain so that more attention would be drawn to the drowning statue of liberty. If that was their agenda, then i think they succeeded (although others could argue that the font is so poorly spaced , that ironically it actually draws away MORE attention from the statue).

so between the two images, for me its a question between aesthetics vs. content.
I would be totally happy with either one.

i like the original more. it has kind of a "swans" quality.
also it kinda looks like they are gonna print it on cardboard, and if that's the case it will definitely look better than this edit.
