Spoon's new album leaked early this morning and it comes out the same day as Zeitgeist so....

every album is different.

im not surprised that the album hasn't leaked yet, if it does, as said earlier, it will probably be in late june. i am surprised though, that there nothing has leaked. at the very least i would have thought tarantula would have leaked by now. im not sure if anyone listens to rap, but i remember kayne's last cd leaked months before it came out so who knows...

I'm kinda pulling for that too... it's kinda like when your team's against a pitcher with no hits in the 8th inning. You want your team to pull it out, but you also kinda want the pitcher to get his no-hitter.

This is the calm before the storm. As the tour takes off, I think we're going to get an overload of new SP material, especially durring the residencies. I think we'll probably all hear live Zeitgeist before studio Zeitgeist. Don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing though.

Personally, I've always liked the live -> studio transition a lot more than the other way around.

The first concert is in a few days. I think it'll be good to hear those recordings, then I'm sure we'll be able to hear many of the new songs.

if they don't send out promo cds of the album, nobody (but billy) can leak the cd. as far as i know, nothing has been sent out so far. and they will only send out promos for the first single some time before tuesday.

Are you a Braves fan by any chance? They were being no hit by the Nats into the 8th 2 nights ago until McCann broke it up with a solo shot.

What I'm the most surprised about is that no one knew who was and wasn't in the band until maybe a month ago. Really, Zeitgeist has been two years in the making and we just got news about Iha and all about a month ago.

That being said, I'm not surprised about a lack of a leak.

Usually, the ultra-early album leaks are ones that come from the band.
I'd say it's generally a friend of a friend of the band who leaks it - either on purpose or by accident (by having it in his shared P2P library or somesuch).

One way labels are combatting that is constraining the number of copies of the album there are - one for the band, one for the producer and one for the label (or something like that).

EMI has been encoding employee numbers into every copy of their albums so if it DOES leak - they know exactly whose copy it was.

Other early release leaks are review copies for media, radio, advertisers, partners, etc.
Those can leak up to a month ahead of time - at the most.

Major labels seem much more intent on stopping leaks than smaller - mostly because they're more paranoid about record sales. (Whereas indie labels could create a pre-buzz for the album if a lot of people like it)

The thing for me is, after hearing some of the Arising shows, I was kind of disappointed with the way Machina turned out. I perfered a lot of the Arising arragements over the Machina arrangements. So... I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

A little off topic here but, Billy has been really good at keeping things quiet. From the lineup to even people's opinion of tracks. Not many people can pull that kind of thing off these days. I just hope that it's all worth it in the end.

if it does leak, the promo copy responsible (if that is its means of leakage) would be watermarked and traced back to the leaker, causing a fiasco greater than that of the photo leaks.

so... i doubt if anyone has it would leak it, for fear of being arrested.

Billy should really record like a few teasers of really lame songs and release them instead of the real thing... Then when the real thing hits stores, everyone will be shocked and applaud Billy for creating such a suspensful atmosphere to release the album into...
