View Full Version : Hot Topic T-Shirt
Olivier 05-14-2007, 08:17 PM My friend told me today that they were in hot topic a few days ago, and they were selling shirts with the Zeitgeist flag on them. I don't have a picture, and maybe someone else does?
I think that this is the beginning of the end of the new Smashing Pumpkins.

spguitar 05-14-2007, 08:23 PM What's wrong with that?
keioffice 05-14-2007, 08:23 PM why? cause they are selling t shirts, or cause it has the gay flag logo on it?
wHATcOLOR 05-14-2007, 08:23 PM hahaha
abyopp 05-14-2007, 08:23 PM they've sold pumpkins shirts at hot topic since the chain began. its not a big deal.
MisterSquishyHalo 05-14-2007, 08:25 PM I think that this is the beginning of the end of the new Smashing Pumpkins.
oh noes, the pumpkins sold out!
markpregen 05-14-2007, 08:42 PM My friend told me today that they were in hot topic a few days ago, and they were selling shirts with the Zeitgeist flag on them. I don't have a picture, and maybe someone else does?
I think that this is the beginning of the end of the new Smashing Pumpkins.
the end is the beginning is the end
monkeyfritters 05-14-2007, 08:44 PM SP selling out is nothing new. that's been one of the main pillars of the band. they used to temper the commercialism with good music, however.
ToEachesOwn 05-14-2007, 08:47 PM they've sold pumpkins shirts at hot topic since the chain began. its not a big deal.
Yea, the majority of the ones I have been in still have the Zero tees.
markpregen 05-14-2007, 08:49 PM Yea, the majority of the ones I have been in still have the Zero tees.
I think those are for the skateboard company now
MisterSquishyHalo 05-14-2007, 08:50 PM they used to temper the commercialism with good music, however.
And now they are a failure for a bad 30 second clip.
Olivier 05-14-2007, 08:51 PM why? cause they are selling t shirts, or cause it has the gay flag logo on it?
a little bit of both. I'm also thinking of the majority of the people who shop at hot topic wearing those shirts. A lot of the stuff that they sell there always seems to blow up with 13 year olds after they have a front store display for about a week.
Screwjack 05-14-2007, 09:09 PM I want to see a SP shirt with the Paris Hilton image. That would be a big hit with the under 20 female whore crowd...which is surprisingly large.
Plus, I would wear it every single day.
Steve Hol----Paris Hilton!
ToEachesOwn 05-14-2007, 09:28 PM I think those are for the skateboard company now
They have the SP logo on the sleeve...
monkeyfritters 05-14-2007, 09:29 PM And now they are a failure for a bad 30 second clip.
nobody said that. if anything machina I, zwan and tfe took care of the failing.
monkeyfritters 05-14-2007, 09:30 PM zeitgeist still could be good. the clip was ambiguous.
tensionhead 05-14-2007, 09:31 PM the first sp shirt i ever bought stated how i sold out.
say something.
soluko 05-14-2007, 09:56 PM anyone remember the mcis beanie sold during the mcis tour? impossible to get. "the world is a vampire" one is the one i'm talking about. i could never get one.
bampton 05-14-2007, 10:08 PM Any chance of someone getting a pic of the zeitgeist shirt?
danondorf 05-14-2007, 11:20 PM At Hot Topic.
Flag logo on front with band name. I'll post pics tomorrow (they go on sale tomorrow).
I hope they'll have extra small child size. where'd you get this info?
krackhead 05-14-2007, 11:25 PM I don't know why some people dislike the logo. I would rock one of these shirts...
Pavlo 05-14-2007, 11:31 PM The flag comes off as emo to some of us; i wouldnt wear it
MrEcks 05-14-2007, 11:45 PM Kind of off-topic but how many of us have Zero t-shirts that are like rags now?
bampton 05-14-2007, 11:52 PM Kind of off-topic but how many of us have Zero t-shirts that are like rags now?
I'll put my hand up. The bottom has been shredded in aid of taking off stubborn beer-bottle twist-tops.
Nate the Grate 05-14-2007, 11:55 PM I bought my Zero shirt at a Hot Topic
I can't believe I ever wore that thing
brillo998 05-15-2007, 12:24 AM they still sell zero shirts on ebay.
elektricsouls 05-15-2007, 12:28 AM anyone remember the mcis beanie sold during the mcis tour? impossible to get. "the world is a vampire" one is the one i'm talking about. i could never get one.
I got one on ebay about a year ago! Love it...
MrEcks 05-15-2007, 12:35 AM My friend always tells me to stop wearing it out because she can remember when it used to still be black and in one piece... :P
Zandoz 05-15-2007, 12:59 AM Mine is a funky grey color now and has three holes, one of which was sewn up very badly by me...lol...
BlissedandGone2 05-15-2007, 04:07 AM Kind of off-topic but how many of us have Zero t-shirts that are like rags now?
mine looks horrible now. it was always too long anyways. the sleves were fine but the body part went way to far down. plus the zero lost its sparkle :(
Shapan 05-15-2007, 04:37 AM ive bought a zero shirt for my friend who adores the pumpkins and for myself. my zero shirt is in decent condition, so is his.
TylerDurden67 05-15-2007, 07:26 AM who cares about Hot Topic.
thats where i bought a back-up Zero tshirt once i wore out my original. hell they even sold the 1988-2000 "END" shirts from the Farewell shows there for a while.
astrosfan719 05-15-2007, 07:59 AM They were one of the first people to have a Year Zero tee-shirt, so I figure they'll be the first to have Zeitgeist shirts.
brillo998 05-15-2007, 09:51 AM im gonna need pix by midnight tonite.
ciGarski 05-15-2007, 10:13 AM They have the SP logo on the sleeve...
and they have copywrite smashing pumpkins below the o in zero, which is different if you bought your shirt back in the day.
i remember alot of adore merch on sale there, i actually grabbed the poster with the band walking towards the tree like they're leaving a furneral from the album booklet. one of my favorite posters.
Super Cres 05-15-2007, 10:25 AM Where are people getting this info about the Zeitgiest t's? I can't find any info on hottopic.com
Olivier 05-15-2007, 10:30 AM Where are people getting this info about the Zeitgiest t's? I can't find any info on hottopic.com
My friend told me that she saw it at hot topic. the people working there were putting it up when she was there.
i didn't see it online either, so its probably going to be up in a while, if at all.
Bullet1979 05-15-2007, 10:30 AM Sounds like a case of someone getting their proverbial chain pulled.

if you are saying that she's lying, then you're wrong. she's a close friend and has no reason to lie about anything. she's with me right now, in a photography class 2 seats down, and i just asked her about it.

I didn't necessarily mean to attack anyone's character... but if she's telling the truth it sounds like your local hot topic is the only store in the chain carrying it - and they're carrying a new item that their website doesn't list. Usually if something like this was true, there'd be pictures posted by other people by now.
If there's one thing to be said about Netphorians, other than their uncanny skills to flame any post, it's that they're very thorough in scavenging and finding things. I'll eat my words when I'm proven wrong but it sounds unlikely.

wait a second.. youre both in a photography class? I have an INSANE idea.. why don't one of you take a PICTURE of this t-shirt next time you stop by the mall for an Orange Julius? thanks broham!
deadaswarhol 05-15-2007, 11:19 AM pick me up an orange julius while you're there. thx
Bullet1979 05-15-2007, 11:39 AM wait a second.. youre both in a photography class? I have an INSANE idea.. why don't one of you take a PICTURE of this t-shirt next time you stop by the mall for an Orange Julius? thanks broham!
That idea is so INSANE, it just may work!
brillo998 05-15-2007, 11:41 AM wait a second.. youre both in a photography class? I have an INSANE idea.. why don't one of you take a PICTURE of this t-shirt next time you stop by the mall for an Orange Julius? thanks broham!
hahaha seriously.
ciGarski 05-15-2007, 12:06 PM do they give a mini flag with every sale? i want a flag.
ideology 05-15-2007, 12:23 PM why? cause they are selling t shirts, or cause it has the gay flag logo on it?
i'd say the gay flag
Screwjack 05-15-2007, 12:38 PM pick me up an orange julius while you're there. thx
Orange whip? Orange whip? Three Orange Whips!
busty sinclaire 05-15-2007, 12:45 PM Hmm..I work at hot topic (I can't believe I'm willfully giving this information) and I know nothing of these shirts, nor have I heard ANYTHING about future smashing pumpkins stuff. Also, yeah, they do have zero shirts, they never never sold, they were cinder block licensed but looked somewhat off compared to the original ones.
busty sinclaire 05-15-2007, 12:51 PM I just talked to my manager, she checked the company intranet that says everything that hot topic carries and what stores have them, it is
not true.
SivaTristessa 05-15-2007, 12:59 PM brougham, markpregen.
krackhead 05-15-2007, 01:06 PM I'll put my hand up. The bottom has been shredded in aid of taking off stubborn beer-bottle twist-tops.
thats why you go for the heineken foooo
I got mine on the mcis tour in '96. I kind of regret not getting one of the "official" tour shirts though.
SP4Me 05-15-2007, 01:29 PM Well, I went to the Hot Topic in Altoona, Pa today to see if they have the shirt yet, and just my luck, they are closed for remodeling. They have set up a temporary location, but it won't be open until tomorrow. I did knock on the door and ask the employee if they got it in yet and he said that they haven't yet, because they had stopped all incoming shipments because of moving, but they may have it as early as tomorrow and I'm supposed to call in to check.
What a wasted trip....
Travis_Wright 05-15-2007, 01:32 PM called around in nc... no hot topics have sp shirts here.. new or old.
SP4Me 05-15-2007, 01:39 PM Well, they did tell me that there is a chance our Altoona location won't get them at all, but that our State College one will. They said if thats the case, they could have the one from State College shipped to Altoona for me to pick up. Of course, I could probably save me and them a lot of hassle and just order from Hot Topics website. But I'd rather be a pain in the ass...lol.
Reyngel 05-15-2007, 01:40 PM http://www.seedsofdoubt.com/zendaba/images/condi-liar-jersey.jpg
SP4Me 05-15-2007, 01:43 PM Maybe the Hot Topic guy doesn't even know what he's talking about... I'm definitely not making another trip in there. I'll call first. I'll be pissed if they don't get them in at all....
Ol' Couch Ass 05-15-2007, 01:48 PM if you are saying that she's lying, then you're wrong. she's a close friend and has no reason to lie about anything. she's with me right now, in a photography class 2 seats down, and i just asked her about it.
Posting on netphoria from class...a photography class no less. It is no wonder that the Chinese are going to be eating our lunch in about 20 years :noway:
ciGarski 05-15-2007, 02:07 PM i just went to hot topic. no shirts.
they had a tiny zero shirt on clearance. it has copywrite 2000 smashing pumpkins cinder block in small lettering under the RO.
mellon b0lly 05-15-2007, 02:13 PM I just talked to my manager, she checked the company intranet that says everything that hot topic carries and what stores have them, it is

With the silver SP heart (not black).
It isn't a cinder block shirt either, it's an Anvil shirt.
Nothing on the back.

How about you do your job and fix the rock wall (you know what I'm talking about if you work there) and stock your shit correctly.
Nimrod's Son 05-15-2007, 07:53 PM a little bit of both. I'm also thinking of the majority of the people who shop at hot topic wearing those shirts. A lot of the stuff that they sell there always seems to blow up with 13 year olds after they have a front store display for about a week.
How old were you when you bought your first SP tshirt, chachi?
ciGarski 05-15-2007, 08:09 PM How about you do your job and fix the rock wall (you know what I'm talking about if you work there) and stock your shit correctly.
why are you shopping for cds at hot topic?
danondorf 05-15-2007, 08:12 PM What are you talking about. I was referring to the guy who doesn't do his job right (fixing the "rock wall"=shirts).
Where'd you get CDs from? I said I bought the new SP shirt there.
ciGarski 05-15-2007, 08:14 PM my bad, i thought you were talking about the cd shelf at hot topic. i guess i don't know what you're talking about cuz i don't work there.

WeilandFan 05-15-2007, 08:57 PM Luckily they didn't put 7.7.07 on it. Maybe I'll get it, I hate Hot Topic though, just a bunch of emo fags with emo music playing, but I might get this shirt.
BlissedandGone2 05-15-2007, 08:58 PM the smashing pumpkins are the greatest emo band ever so get over it
MisterSquishyHalo 05-15-2007, 09:06 PM Luckily they didn't put 7.7.07 on it. Maybe I'll get it, I hate Hot Topic though, just a bunch of emo fags with emo music playing, but I might get this shirt.
Send your emo cousin/nephew to go get it.
McCollum 05-15-2007, 10:11 PM well i guess we know who isn't a tru fan.
Why would I buy a shirt that basically advertises an album that I haven't heard yet? What if it sucks and I don't like it? I'm hoping for the best but i'm not going to spend money on a shirt that could potentially remind me of a bad album. Maybe after I hear it, but probably not. I'm 23 and don't wear band t-shirts very often at all anymore.

fluxequalsrad 05-16-2007, 12:20 AM there's a spelling error on that shirt.. I believe its 'teh smashing pumpkins'....gawd.
I had the guy at my place query the entire HT district in my area: Southern GA -> Central FL. He believes im making the shirt up
ciGarski 05-16-2007, 01:00 AM yeah, clearly hot topic are the idiots if their own system doesn't recognize the merchandise they're selling

well if their company intranet doesn't even think they have any smashing pumpkins merchandise, it wouldn't be unreasonable for an employee to not think they have it.
like that guy said:
I had the guy at my place query the entire HT district in my area: Southern GA -> Central FL. He believes im making the shirt up
ciGarski 05-16-2007, 10:07 AM im going to try this after class at around 12:30. thanks for the pic. ill post how it goes.

peachie_keen 05-16-2007, 10:39 AM anyone who said danondorf is a liar is wrong..i am the reason why he started his thread before...i am the employee and very close friend who called him before closing to tell him I would be stocking the new smashing pumpkins shirt. we are a store in california, who has been testing the strategy of $15 rock tees.
when i first saw that we were getting new rock tees it was for the new rock wall planogram that i had to assemble. anyone who thinks the "rock wall" is the cd area would not know what they are talking about. smashing pumpkins according to the planogram is placed in the 90's rock section in bold that says next to it "new release", so that when we place the shirt on the wall we put a sticker on the plexi.
what danondorf should have said was that "i heard that tomorrow a california hot topic will be selling the new smashing shirt"....of course i used my employee discount to get one, so the two of us were the first ones to get them. the company intranet doesn't show them yet becaue not all the stores own them yet. anyone who works at a hot topic should know that about the company intranet, and that online not everything is put on right away!
ciGarski 05-16-2007, 01:20 PM pretty much.
i just got back from the mall. the girl was impressed i had a scan of the tag and the sku lol (thanks danondorf). she said more than likely the shirt was just put in some test stores, see how it sells and then is decided whether or not to put it into distribution amoungst all the hot topics, and online.
she ran the number and a pic didn't show up, however she saw that the hot topic in Des Moines was just getting a shipment in today or tomorrow of the shirts, and had 3 larges soon to be in stock. she said she would call me later today if they got them in, and i could run to des moines or have that location ship one to the one i live by. so very cool
sounds like most stores are going to be getting them. especially if an iowan hot topic is getting some.
and really, thank you danondorf for posting the pictures and info. i love sp shirts, love collecting them and am very excited for the first new one in 7 years! the best part of the sp board is the info hands down, sifting through the bullshit is a pain in the ass but small things like this thread are helpful for completests (sp?) like me.

and the point of this post was...
to confirm that the shirt exists? yeah done already pal
that you are the reason this thread exists? good for you
that the rock wall isn't cds? yeah welcome to a couple pages ago.
did you write this post then forgot about it, and clicked send a day later?

I am glad to hear that you were able to use the scan and info to verify some things.
Actually though, Peachie Keen should be thanked as well because she was the one that informed me in the first place that they had gotten the shirts in (a couple of nights ago) and helped me get it with her employee discount.
I'm happy to hear though that someone appreciated our help though.
ciGarski 05-16-2007, 06:15 PM yup much appreciated. thanks to both.
zerock 05-16-2007, 06:58 PM awesome, they are real..:)
Implosion 05-16-2007, 11:36 PM For those that care (I know there are few): I poked my head into the Hot Topic at the Valley Fair mall in San Jose, CA and they had the shirt on the wall.
ciGarski 05-16-2007, 11:40 PM yeah sounds like thats whats all the hot topics will have in a week.
my rule when i was in high school was the band has to at least put out 2 solid albums before i rep them on a T. since then i've chilled on band shirts. repping only concerts i go to, just for fun and with the philosophy that i'd rather pay giant for a sp shirt or NIN shirt than abercrombie for a shirt about monkey's tapping kegs. i was a kid known to wear a lot of rock t shirts lol. anyway this band has put out more than that and hopefully zeitgeist is one for the books. regardless i hope the best for billy in all his endevors, because if his shit isn't up to par, its at least better than the surrounding efforts.
and i ordered the pumpkin shirt to be shipped to me, looking forward to it fri or mon.
stumpycat 05-17-2007, 12:31 AM I have those kind of "rock t-shirt ethos" too. hehe
Seriously, I don't "represent" unless I really like the band and really like the shirt, too. And most preferably, I obtain tees from the particular era of music which I most like.
ciGarski 05-17-2007, 12:37 AM me too.
and ill rep it. if its a 96 manson shirt i might wear it, or if its a 96 pumpkin shirt i will wear it.. 96 bets year ever.
Super Cres 05-17-2007, 09:47 AM The nearest one to me in Colorado is in Montana, I ordered it through the store and it should be here Monday or Tuesday.
peachie_keen 05-17-2007, 03:48 PM ciGarki:
i know my reply was a little late but i didnt even think there would be so many people pointing the finger at him saying he was lying.
its funny, cuz when he wore it yesterday there was a woman in a cafe whom we heard say, "why is there an american flag that says 'the smashing pumpkins' underneath it? i haven't heard anything new from them since 'zero' "
i think that people seeing these random shirt appearances is whats going to hype the album accross the country besides the news broadcast about the guys who stole the pictures. i don't think that a 30 second song clip is going to do all the work.
stumpycat 05-17-2007, 06:16 PM Being a "hobby fan" of a band is really kind of like having a favorite sports team in a sport you closely follow...while you can like and appreciate other teams (or perhaps even at times like them better) because you really like the sport itself, for whatever reason you are particularly partial to one--even if in some years they are crappy, frustrating, or completely off their game. But then you also take your knowledge and analysis of their whole "history" to a near-academic level. In some ways showing band support (through band t-shirts or otherwise) seems like the same principle.
Travis_Wright 05-17-2007, 06:41 PM i got my shirt last night!
yaya!

i agree. but the clip is a bonus. the single is hitting monday and depending on its success in rotation that will inform chicks like that who think the band's dead that accessable material is coming. i've said from the begining, given the reviews of this album, if the band gets proper promotion, and proper radio spin, theres no reason this won't be successful.
ttominator 05-17-2007, 10:23 PM I may not post here often but I just wanted to add..I got my shirt tonite! Went to the Staten Island Mall so any NYers looking for it. Hot Topic on Staten Island has it.
