View Full Version : The More Official Netphorian TREAT Exchange

avian chaos
05-10-2007, 09:19 PM
I think I counted about 11 or 12 people in the other thread who said they'd be down to participate in a treat exchange. This is exactly like Secret Santa, but instead of sending a random gift you have to send something toothsome and delectable, preferrably something exclusive to your region, for your buddy to munch on. For the sake of suspension, it will be secret. :)

PM me your address, along with a sentence or two about what kind of treats you prefer (chocolate, jarred stuff like preserves, cookies, something else, sexual favors, etc) or don't prefer (Hershey's!) and I will start hooking people up.

* Also be sure to verify whether or not you'd be willing to accept something that was made by a Netphorian rather than bought at the store.

Price range for everyone should be between $5-$10, unless you really like your person you're always welcome to spend more :)

The deadline for submitting yourself will be four days from today: Monday, May 14th. After that I'll let everyone know who their person is and we'll set a deadline for sending out your treats.

*** The deadline for sending out treats to your person is
June 15th.***
After that point, if you still have not managed to send even a nibble to your person, you will be considered a loser, a twat and a deadbeat.

(Sorry for the double thread, but after everyone said they're in I thought it would be doubtful for them to search through the 3 pages of digression to find the details on the exchange.)

No rules on cost, spend whatever you're comfortable spending.

It can be either packaged or homemade-- I think it's preferrable if it's packaged, unless you're into making your own stuff already, like LSD and her jam! Or Brady's 'rents and their apple butter.

Not strictly local specialty sorts, but I'm sure everyone would appreciate a little creativity, i.e., try not to send something anyone could go and pick up at the cornerstore, like a Hershey's bar or somethin'.

The idea of a netphorian sending something to me in the mail doesn't seem very safe at all.
That's why it's preferred if it's a packaged good, unless you're someone who can be trusted, like LSD or Bardy. I wouldn't accept anything that wasn't sealed from someone, like say, Julio or Alex Douchele.

avian chaos
05-11-2007, 12:44 PM
This is going to be TOTALLY FUCKED just like how everything else ends up being.
Only if we let people of questionable integrity participate. Which we're not.

This is a treat lover's exchange, so if only treat lovers participate, then everything should go smoothly. So far everyone who has PMed me their address is someone I would count on enough to make myself their person.

avian chaos

Lucy Sky Diamonds
05-11-2007, 04:20 PM
Strawberries, pectin, sugar, lemon juice. That's it. I have one jar leftover from last year, but that's for me! Me!

Hey guys, we almost have more replies than the other sticky thread. TREATS vs. AVATARS

Here's what I found simply by Googling "shipping wine":

A bottle for my mother
By Jim Clarke

I could go to jail for sending my mom a bottle of wine for her birthday. She lives in Florida, and if I wrap it up and hand it over to UPS, Florida law says I could face up to five years in prison- the same sentence a burglar could receive. Similarly, since I live in New York, there are several wines I had while visiting Sonoma that I probably won’t be able to buy again until my next visit to California. They are from small wineries that don’t have distributors outside the state, and shipping wine to individuals in Florida, New York, and twenty-four other states is illegal.

Seems pretty crappy. Like someone else said (bardy I think?) you could always wrap it up super good and no one would be the wiser, but I'm not sure I'd want to risk it. :erm:

I went window shopping for my person today. I'll be sending it off by next week :)

Hey ammy, I got a PM from the person who's sending to you saying they were at a loss for ideas of what to get for you-- it seems what you dislike is just what they like! International shipping always seems alarmingly expensive to me. The only time it hasn't been a punch in the wallet was when I mailed mercurial some dino dudes and it cost less to send that than it did to mail my mom, who lives 3 hours away, a birthday card and box of tempura mix. :erm:

that takes away a lot of the pleasure of going 'hey i'll send some maple syrup since it's so cheap here.' yeah not so cheap once you check the post office. and i scratch my head trying to decipher if their customs will tax it.

so i got a package in the mail. licorice jawbreakers are heaven!

also got some liquorice pontefract cakes, a lovely organic gingerbread ladybug, butter cream candies and black cherry pop made in burlington.

thank you alison! and i'm really sorry to have imposed upon you that i wanted to get my treat from another canadian. this is all well-chosen stuff.

i'm actually going to toronto next week-end! my best friend has been living there for a couple months and i'd rather visit him for his birthday than have another meaningless st-jean-baptiste celebration.

A dark chocolate caramel bar
A dark chocolate almond bar
A milk chocolate almond butter bar
A colossal vegan chocolate chip cookie
A bag of natural doritos
A jar of undoubtedly delicious jam which I will soon open

Am I forgetting something? It was all so delicious, it makes me dizzy thinking about it.

I know! Mine was twenty bucks! Mamma mia. All in the good name of TREATS, though!

I'm glad this thread got bumped... No pressure on the folks who've mentioned time and again that they're in the process of moving... I'm sure we can all understand that kind of summertime stress.

And licorice jawbreakers sound mindbogglingly amazing. I'm googling them right now.

My dude and I are making jam on Friday. So it should be sent out over the weekend, unless we can't find good berries on Friday.

Someone knocked on the door today while I was going pee... It was the mailman with treeeeats! I haven't tried any of it yet-- I'm trying to hold off so I can take all the goodies with me on our big camping trip this weekend, but it all looks so delicious. Nut bars, the biggest bar of butter crunch I've ever seen, caramel spread (mamma mia!), maple syrup and homemade cookies. Yum x10000.

I think I'll get everyone around the campfire and see just how gross these "musks" are :)

Attention bardy: I have successfully completed the jam making process. Your package should be shipped early next week. :)

You have a choice of jams:
Strawberry raspberry jam
Blackberry cherry jam

I think the strawberry one is a bit sweeter, and I think it turned out a bit better, but it's up to you. :)
