My guess is that not very many have actually heard it and those who have did so in very tightly regulated circumstances. But now that the single is coming out soon enough I'm expecting the leak any day. Especially if that DJ guy mentioned in another thread says they have Tarantula in the studio but have to wait until whenever.

im inclined to think that radio stations dont have it yet. i emailed the program directors at several stations in dallas and houston, and talked to one of them in austin (whom im friends with) and nobody has seen it yet.

My experience with leaked albums differs greatly from yours. I find the bigger commercial, mainstream stuff usually gets leaked two or three months in advance.

For example, I downloaded the latest Bjork album (Volta) two months ago and I downloaded the newest Marilyn Manson album (Eat Me, Drink Me) about a week ago.

debuting new songs to a festivalcrowd that hasn't heard it before and is quite honestly for the most part expecting to hear old hits played the way the crowd remembers them (which we all know TSP wasn't very good at delivering) amounts to calculated suicide as yet again thousands at those festivalgrounds will go home with a sense of utter confusion and that will be the talking point amongst friends etc when TSP is mentioned for weeks to come - so to make a lasting impression and a good one it's wise to have the shit out there to let people get used to the songs (or some songs you're gonna play live at least - i.e. leak a sampler or something)

or they will play alot of the greatest hits..however I wouldn't imagine as you say that they would play Zeitgeist heavy setlists to festivals without some of the tracks leaking

if they are really that confident in the new songs i think they should just come out and blast everyone's tits off with the new songs, and play old songs in the encore, at least for the first show just to throw everyone off

in other news i've just realised the venue im seeing mogwai in on sunday is really fucking small, so im looking forward to having my face smashed off and being unable to hear for the next 5 days

Yep. I think no promo cds of the album were sent out to anyone. So it's impossible to leak it.

I don't see how sending out promo cds of the first single to radio stations could make it possible for the album to leak though. They can't leak what they don't have. Also, I don't consider a radio station playing a song "a leak". That's more in the "release" category, in my opinion.

it's not bravado, i was taking the piss, but it just seems daft to me, unless you're reviewing bands all the time, or playing gigs and pressing your ears against the speakers it's not going to permanently fuck up your hearing, it's like wearing sunglasses to a cinema in case it's too bright for your eyes, it may block out some of the loud noise, but it'll take away some of the nuances of the quiet parts too

indeed, i do get your point but it is ear rapingly loud. maybe thats the point. I only saw half a Mogwai show before and still couldn't hear for a few days.
