I was at the show the thread starter speaks of and i can tell you why he is not coming back there. because the crowd sucked ass and Nassau collesium sucks too.

I enjoyed the 1/24/97 show.... Colosseum (not collesium) is not a bad venue either.... The one that sucks is jones beach. Nassau is decent and pumpkins should do another show there.

BTW the crowd at the 1/24/97 show was AMAZING. You obviously were not there. Corgan even goes: "You guys are fucking crazy!" That was one of the best shows I have ever been to and believe me I have been to a lot of shows.

They tried to have a festival on Long Island. Remember the Field Day Festival disaster of 2003? The county would not give the promoters the proper permits so they had to move it to NJ. They cut it from a two day festival with an amazing lineup and camping on site to a one day show. They cut 3/4 of the lineup. Anyone remember Elliott playing outside Giants Stadium right next to the parking lot? As I recall only about 1/4 of the place was full. Thats what happens when Long Island tries to put on a festival.
Oh and if you actually believe that Nassau Coliseum is a good venue for a concert, than you must be deaf. Sound does nothing but bounce around that giant concrete room.

It was a 2 day show. It started in the morning and Radiohead played a HUGE set and stopped playing at 1 A.M. the next morning. = 2 days. All the bands that canceled sucked anyways. It would have been way better on L.I. and everyone knows it. They could have done the outdoor thing at the colleseum. Most people crashed in a hotel. I was one of them.... Btw, I would choose the TPKE, which is way less congested than an entire LOUD city. Randalls Island is a stinky dirt box. I saw Dave and the Chili Peppers there and my nose and throat were clogged with dirt both times. I would rather go to webster than there. Randall's has to be the worst venue. To top it off you still have to pay for a round trip bus to take you there, and since there are limited buses it takes about 3 hours to get you back to penn station.

BTW I fucking hate long island too. The point is that just because a place fucking sucks doesn't mean that bands should not go there. Its way more of an inconvenience to the fans that live here to have to take trains and buses just to see the pumpkins. Nobody else in the U.S. has to do that. They can just take a car and drive, but in NYC that is impossible.

You can't drive to NYC. You have to take the train. If the drive to Jersey from LI were an hour long I would not care, but its not. Its 2 hours minimum... Given the cost of gas to make the trip to Jersey (and back), I would much rather see a band in NYC. However, all of that train/taxi crap could be avoided if bands would come to the 2 or 3 venues we have in Nassau. That gives me the option to actually be able to drive and only for a half hour at most. I am still pissed about live earth being in Jersey though.
