This is all we saw, the i'm sure one of them is a promotional piece and one of them is album art (i just don't know which is which). Anyhow, yeah. I can't say how or where I got them.

both look fake.
in the first one, the font of the bandname and the title doesn't match with the rest of the artwork.
in the second one, same problem, plus the skeleton image seems to be a scan from a book. they didn't even do the effort to clean it up properly: there's still some text underneath the image and there's the border on the right, as kahlo already mentioned.

Look at "THE SMASHING PUMPKINS" on the first one... Theres no way there name would be written directly in the centre with such a small generic font - for any band. Need I mention that every pumpkins album has their name big bold and large. (except pisces)

The skeleton is actually from a brush pack that you can get for photoshop. I have this set of brushes. Just a bunch of different skeletons in different positions. Easy shop job. I question its legitmacy.

they both look a little simple. that said, after TFE, either would be welcome. the first way more so than the second. the skeleton may be badass, but the layout itself is not. If it didn't have that dumb panel on the right, maybe it would be better.

however, now that I think about it, the crown thing seems kind of... I don't know...

are you stoned??
I'd say that in this case, Billy's off-the-cuff comments at that Avalon show (with the drum machine) speak volumes more than whatever literarily premeditated reflections he concocted fifteen or so years later for inclusion in "Confessions." (Anyone care to remember what other sorts of silly rubbish Billy was spouting within the same time frame of the Confessions, about such-and-such former SP band member being "immoral," etc. etc.?) I mean, based on his actions and his words (recall the "Recliner" incident where he gave all sorts of obsessive winking and nodding to Billy Corgan's work on his own double alblum..or whatever the hell that was...), Ron clearly has his own self-aggrandizing agenda going on here...but of course Billy has his own agenda for framing history as well. My guess is that Ron probably did work with Billy on some songs which Billy carried over into what he denotes as the genesis of the early Pumpkins (and I'm talking about more than Spiteface, Death of a Mind/Sun)--in any case, they both ended up back in Chicago. From what I've listened to of The Marked, Ron was a pretty decent drummer, too. You can also definitely hear why Billy would hook up with a drummer in the style of Jimmy to fill the void.

Wasn't there an entire thread dedicated to how each booklet had a unique "scent"? I think I recall a debate over whether or not Machina's was specifically intentional. (God that was anal!)

I thought the first one looked like some kind of sketch from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, I'm surprised no one else thought so.
too reminiscent of machina
The second one looks like the cover of a Barnes & Noble Classic.
I thought all three of these things when looking at it. The skeleton, though quite a nice picture, is obviously a book scan. (The artwork seems familiar to me, too.)

And yeah, that asterik thingy is pretty retarded. (At least it alerted me to look for the fine print under the picture though...haha.) Whoever would really put that on an alblum cover is a real douchebag.

Yeah, and check the sloppy overlap of the "Z" on the graphic in the crown one. Even if the designer was going to drop the text in over the existing art, they would presumably have selected and placed a font that didn't interfere with the image.

After taking a closer look... it's obvious the text has been added to the image, especially in the first. I work with Photoshop quite a bit, infact I've done a lot here on Netphoria... I did imagine something b&w with Zeitgeist but... if the album is due out in July, it's very unlikely that they've finalized the artwork for the album at this point.

If it is real, it's probably just early promotional materials.
