View Full Version : "That being said"

Has anybody else noticed that people use the phrase "that being said" way too much these days? I keep seeing it everywhere and it bothers me because of how horribly overused and redundant it is. You don't need to say "that being said" because if it's been said then it's been said, 1=1, I got it, no shit, move on. No offense to people who use it, by the way. It's just that I see it a lot now and it's a stupid and now highly bothersome phrase.

It is overused in two ways: many people say it, and those who do say it say it often. It is senseless. Stop using it.

I hate when people say "I could care less" when they mean to say "I couldn't care less" because they're idiots. Then when you bring it to their attention they disagree and offer no reasons why, despite the fact that it clearly means that if you could care less, then you care about it more than some other things, as opposed to its opposite meaning, which means you don't care, which is what people unambiguously wanted to imply initially.

Only that phrase, other phrases, mostly, would not warrant a punch.

Newest least clever thing ever: using the phrase "that being said" in this thread to be funny. Also, it would only be proving my point that idiots use this overused phrase.

so the moral of the thread is that there's no comedic value to be found in the incessant repetition of an inane three-word phrase.

There are a lot of things that people say that don't make a lick of sense. Like "I'm head over heels in love"... Aren't you head over heels regardless?

That shit bugs me; it needs to stop. Though, I suppose one could infer that the head would be not remaining over the heels but rather moving over them, like the Sun over the plains, implying a stumble. But along that line, it's bothersome.

My beef is with people who abuse the word "literally." I heard some girl in class complaining about traffic adn forgetting her bookbag and how she "literally had to drive back home and drive back to school" of course you did that literally, what you did it figuratively? fuck
