My children aren't mentally handi-caped
Anvil Hands 11-16-2006, 02:34 PM I just became a father recently and I don't think that the Smashing Pumpkins is appropriate for a six month old but i guess this might work.

what better songs to lullabye your child to sleep with than a song about corporate selling out, a suicide anthem and a ballad about child abuse.
Iamone6942 11-16-2006, 04:27 PM this is all kinds of old.

oh who am i kidding i'm not going to buy t his.
to remind myself that Should never buy SP related tribute albums i am going to go home and put on a Goth Industrial tribute to the Smashing Pumpkins.
Ol' Couch Ass 11-16-2006, 04:55 PM The version of Sober they have on their Myspace site is troubling at best. I can't imagine wanting to subject a child to that.

Subject Hi Guys!!
Body:
Soooo....if you notice, on the Pumpkins page - the band have asked
me to upload a track from a newer band to the 4th slot on their page
from now on so that they can shine the light on a band they think
deserves some attention. :)
The first one we're doing is The Boxer Rebellion from London, UK and the song is, "We Have This Place Surrounded" - The song should be playing shortly or hear it from their MySpace.
I'm actually going to be seeing the Boxers play next month while I'm over
in London to visit my dear friends in Placebo. Why don't we do an SP meet
up, me + you? Hah?
Stay tuned and spread the word because a lot of cool stuff is coming.
Perhaps...TPQ blogs from the studio about new track info????? Hmm...
xoxo

I'm telling Billy.
boynameddarcy 11-16-2006, 06:41 PM I'm so going to get that when I have a kid...start them off with good music.
ScarletPumpkin 11-16-2006, 07:13 PM I would rather let my child decide what music they were into themselves, christ if my mum subjected me to her type of music i would have done myself in a long time ago, ELO, Hot chocolate, the BeeGees!!! yet again if a child of mine was to bring home any CD which which contained the words - pussycat, snoop, or anything in that genre i would have to cut them out of my life. I guess i am a hypocrite but hey, i digress, sigh, got to get back to work

Snail33 11-17-2006, 10:03 AM hopefully these don't have lyrics and are just musical renditions.
No lyrics. They're quite literally lullabye music to the tune of *insert band here*. They're also very hit or miss. Nirvana, Tool, and Metallica were not very good at all when we gave them a listen through. In fact, I couldn't even figure out what song they were trying to do on the Nirvana disc with the tracklisting right in front of me. Radiohead, The Cure, and Pink Floyd are very good, on the other hand. In general, I think their music is more adaptable to this.
Our one year old has a rotation of the latter three for nap and bed and he's really into them. As a rock music fan, it might be tempting to pass these off as crap; however, as a parent who may grind off his own ears with sandpaper the next time he has to hear 'Twinkle, Twinkle' all night over the baby monitor, this stuff is a very welcome compromise.
House of Bread 11-17-2006, 10:17 AM Karma Police sounds like a Sufjan Stevens interlude. I really kind of liked Just Like Heaven

Geek USA 11-20-2006, 11:22 AM oh god. that 'heart shaped box' is going to give them nightmares.
yeah, man that gave me the creeps.
mayday 11-22-2006, 12:29 AM Is this being released by TSP?
I think BC and SP sing lullabys excellently. James has a nice lullaby voice, and actually Darcy and Jimmy do to for that matter. THe last song on MCTIS says so. Though I don't like how the lyrics are so sad in the song. But it is what it is....
After 12 years....things sound the same but very different. Im glad to be able to have the perspective.
I used to play by starlight and in the arms of sleep before going to sleep many years ago. I remember playing blank page alot too before going to sleep.
mayday 11-22-2006, 12:55 AM On this note though would you play sp songs for your baby to sleep by?
Which ones would you play?
I like the last song on MCTIS (the name escapes me) but the lyrics are so sad that i have to say nope. and by starlight is sweet to but then it goes on to be "dead eyes..." and so nope...and there are so many that are good but nope. I don't know if i could play any of them for the baby. I wouldnt want my baby to be so sad....
Mablak 11-22-2006, 01:00 AM Average suicide age just sunk to the terrible twos. Huzzah
