i don't pick the songs that go up - diff. people do...i take requests some time

have you noticed that the tracklist on gish says "rhinoceros" but the tracklist on the greatest hits for example says "rhinocerous"?
"rhinocerous" is also used in the discography in the tafh booklet.

on the other hand, the little inserts that came with machina and the greatest hits that mentioned the "other titles available" both use "rhinoceros" again. so it's not like the title changed at a certain moment, i guess.

on some pre-gish demo tapes, such as moon, "rhinoceraus" is used.

i have never heard of "rhinocerus" before though.

"Friends and Lovers", "Prairie Song", "World's Fair"....anything from those sessions. They are in the same vein as the Hideout sessions [ie. acoustic, not commercially released, and very good].

I think the time period on those sessions is spring 2004 if that helps any.

don't think they were from the church sessons, maybe another live show but not those sessions. You hear people talking/moving in that recording and we weren't allowed to do either [or cough for that matter] during those sessions.

my main gig is to just facilitate interaction and see how fans want to contribute
or check out their suggestions. i obviously can't go sharing all kinds of secrets
and to be honest, i don't know the answers to certain things that you all want

Ok, let me straighten this out. Pop music is guady and conformed. Alternative music is anything but guady and conformed. Alternative musicians do whatever the fuck they want, in conclusion, becuase artist like the Smashing Pumpkins do whatever the fuck they want, this proves that "classiness" is not important when they write or perform music, and therefore it doesn't matter if it exist. Ok, let me straighten this out. Pop music is guady and conformed. Alternative music is anything but guady and conformed. Alternative musicians do whatever the fuck they want, in conclusion, becuase artist like the Smashing Pumpkins do whatever the fuck they want, this proves that "classiness" is not important when they write or perform music, and therefore it doesn't matter if it exist. But you're right, that flag does piss me off a little bit... oh well...

ok I know this is derailing the thread but what the hell is wrong with being classy? Treating others the way you'd want to be treated? I mean let's compare Billy to Fred Durst back in the days when he was sorely lacking class, just to make an easy point...ok, Billy swears in a song or two but when he does it has meaning compared to Fred...that's classy. The Pumpkins would never make light of a situation like the one that happened when Limp Bizkit played woodstock and then had in their next video "It wasn't out fault" Everyone that's met Jimmy w/ the Complex said how gracious Jimmy was to the fans and Billy seems very appreciative of his fans, too. I was at Billy's solo show in DC and he was tearing up when he was thanking the audience. The Pumpkins captured me as a fan with the Tongiht, Tonight video which was artistic and very classy (IMHO) I mean it was truly meant to be beautiful, entertaining, and had a lot of heart poured into it.

Now don't get me wrong. It's amazing somehow when the Pumpkins push the line and show they're interested in not putting people asleep, sure, I wouldn't want them to all be perfect. I like that it's too loud, raccous, and etc. for some people to get it - it's not your mom's music! Rock and Roll sounds better sometimes when it's not 100% perfect, I like that the Pumpkins know how to be a rock and roll band. And we have all witnessed Billy act from time to time like a petty beyotch and I just say, well I guess that's covering up something else because he's really hurt and it's OK that he's not perfect either.

Billy has said the Pumpkins fall within the realm of popular music. I mean just look at the Beatles for an example of good pop music. Or songs the Pumpkins have covered - I want you to want me, landslide, Dancing in the Moonlight. Does Billy hate pop? No he takes from it and uses it to make those catchy melodies people jump up and down to while he sneaks in what he has to say. I mean Today - that has a pop structure to it. I don't know what else I can say but "alternative good pop bad" seems to simplistic to me and it neglects the fact that there are "alternative" bands out there that do music by the numbers even more than some pop acts. And saying gaudy - well some people would say the Pumpkins were overblown or whatever and not simple enough to really be rawkin' but they used grandiosity in a good way instead of the bad way you're probably associating with "pop" I mean c'mon stings on Tonight, Tonight and all those guitar overdubs on SD...but he makes it all rawkin.

In the end it's not their "do whatever the fuck we want" attitude that has given them a legacy (all though they did have that and blazed their own path...) but it's behind it all you'll find a lot of depth and beauty. The actual talent that seeps though to combine with the personalities.

So in short I'm glad the Pumpkins are rock and roll, and I'm glad they can also be classy because it means they're both interesting and gracious to their fans.

...i think its cool when the band reaches out to their fans. not only this pumpkin queen, but also stuff like quinto being allowed to record zwan shows, asselin putting together comps for SP radio, fans receiving copies of machina 2, etc. -- you know all the stories!!!

i think Billy and company have made a genuine effort to keep fans involved (lyric video, hot dog outing, myspace artwork submissions, the machina essay contest, etc., etc.). its just natural that when such a small group of individuals get selected from a much larger group, there will be some animosity. personally, i'm cool with it on a fundamental level....love of the band + the stuff other fans have done for the band and the community is what inspired me to work on spfc.org, the splra.org guys to do their thing, the Z.o.m.b. guys to do their thing, McMurderson to do his thing, and so on....

i mean shit, a massive long-running thread was being maintained completely praising the different music being placed up on the myspace. now that people know a fan is doing it -- its like a total 180. wtf?! we already established *most* of the stuff being posted was readily available...so it seemed obvious that it was a fan helping out to me. so whats not to like?
