Now by following the link, you can own it on vinyl. This is a piece of pumpkin history. I own 5 myself, so theres no need to have anymore. Well, maybe one more, but after that i'm done. Anyway, here is something for your collection. Don't forget to rep me for helping you, the morons, who can't do an ebay search.

the original caroline.
do you mean the carlp16? or that other one?

i always wonder what lp was originally released in the us back in 1991. was it carlp16? hutlp2? or yet another one?
did the us have its own release or were all lps imported from germany/uk?

these days they seem to be still producing the us carol1705 version, but i've never seen an 1991 edition of it. i wonder if that actually exists.

yes, carlp16. thats the one i was referring to...and was the one originally releasaed in the states. i bought it in 1992 in Milwuakee, at Reckless Records.

all the carol1705's i have seen have been the remaster.

ok, thanks for the clarification.

so back in 1991, they made carlp16 in germany and released in the us?
and the hutlp2 vinyl was made and released in the uk? or also released in the us?

i remember something like how they stopped pressing carlp16 shortly after its release. i can hardly imagine they would give gish a limited edition release in the us, so then what happened? did they start selling hutlp2 in the us? or were there enough carlp16s pressed to sell between 1991 and 1994 (year of remastered re-release)?

yes, contracted in the US and pressed in Germany as a US release, for cost reasons.

officially, just in the uk. but after they stopped making carlp16 a lot of the hutlp2 copies were available in the US as well, but stickered as an "import".

i have no official idea about the details surrounding this, just my personal speculation. i figure the gremany pressing plant deal fell through, because i'm not sure any other caroline release was pressed their after that. then, when virgin/hut took over they decided to run out the hut pressings that had already been manufactored, and then moved onto the remaster after the success of SD.

makes sense.

related: i own a hutlp2 gish that has a carlp16 inner sleeve, with the word "caroline" blacked out. so they used carlp16 inner sleeve leftovers for some of the hutlp2 vinyls.

bingo, they just removed the label-specific branding.

again, just like pressing them in germany, the decision was to cut cost since they were already gettign demands above and beyond teh normal alottment for a minor label release. primarily, again, because of its success on the college charts...which i believe was responsible for a minor label sales records of sorts.

the id's of some of the releases are off. this doesn't make things clearer.

German vinyl: CARLP16, not CARLP2
Korean vinyl: VKPL-0089 (this is just a detail, I know)
US re-release vinyl: CAROL 1705 or 017046170512 (not that other barcode that is there)
