i saw the vertigo tour in chicago (not the concerts they taped for the dvd) and i thought they were great. october is amazing, but the later stuff like pop works for me as well. mofo is a good song to listen to when you are angry.

I would still like to see them live, definitely. But they are imho washed up. Kind of like The Stones, but their last album was actually decent.

i don't think we can attribute 20 years of u2 sucking to that one

joeri's penii killed 17 innocent young children in 1987

one of those children would have convinced u2 to split after pop

true, but it makes a great excuse for the last three

i liked joshua tree, ive never been that big of a fan and i just dont like bono.

they've been around such a long time, but i dont know of many people that would say u2 was the best band of any time during their existence. might get kinda tiring being in a band like that after a while.

The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby are their best albums, I think - better than those late 70s/early 80s albums anyway.

i like the stones, but there studio releases after 1984 stink. steel wheels is a piece of crap. u2 has at least a good track or two on all their albums. they really are amazing live and at least they never had a loser boy band phase like the beatles "love love me do" garbage.

i like how every month you can see the Edge on the cover of a guitar magazine making profoundly trite comments like "rock n roll isn't a career, its a life force" or "i'm a musician, not a gunslinger"

lol @ edge

I'd say "no, you aren't", but you're entitled to whatever you want to think. I learned long ago there's no point in arguing on Netphoria.

Much of their attributed sonic qualities and innovation come from a man who is now 45 years old and still goes under the moniker "The Edge". That about sums up U2 at this point.

It's really easy to look past a band with songs like "Beautiful Day" or "Vertigo", thats how they weed out the idiots who haven't heard AB working tapes or Passengers, but meh what do you expect from a place thats practically on it's knees for Tool and Radiohead.

you're missing the point: their last 2 or 3 albums simply havent been very good.

I like Pop, I actually think their best 3 albums were AB, Zooropa and Pop. ATYCLB had bad songs, but really good ones too (Kite, New York, In a Little While)....Dismantle is pretty bad, with the exception of Original of The Species.

I agree with this post, except replace Zooropa and Pop with Boy and Joshua Tree.

you're suggesting that they intentionally release bad music in order to gauge the percentage of their fanbase that's comprised of idiots?

pop is my favourite album by them. theyve had some good tunes over the years. bad and a sort of homecoming are 2 of my favs by them. AB and joshua tree are both really good too. i liked them in junior high alot.

There is a lot of stupid U2 fans, who have never heard any of the better b-sides etc., they only go for the stuff that is easy to listen to (although not all of it is that bad). So yeah, it's like how there are troo SP fans with MCIS and SD under their belt only.

I was forunate to see 'em live on the Elevation tour, where they played Bad live and also in the same night Please was played acoustically, which had never been played before on that tour.
