-Assasins were not that bad at all, a couple good songs, all the others were average. the second to last song kicked ass though
-they closed the second encore with a new song they wrote about a week ago. it was called(if i remeber correctly "A certian kind of"
-the opened with Jesus, closed the main set with Mary. the first encore was riverview and spilled milk, the second was of a broken heart and the new song. they also played settle down, honeslty, ride a black swan, friends as lovers lovers as friends, el sol, declartion of faith, endless summer, one other i didnt know. i know i am missing 2 or 3 more.
-they went on at 8:55 off at 10:45
-qoute of the night "Matt, once again your attempt to gain the spotlight has failed"

the new song was pretty up beat. About the same speed as ride a black swan. The lyrics were a bit hard to hear, but they didnt seem too special. There was some pretty impressive drumming by jimmy.
-another small thing, they were taping the show with a number of different cameras, i didnt goto the first two, so i dont know if this has been happening all the time

I just got in from the show!! I didn't see either of Sunday or monday, so tonight blew me away. First show since 4/8/02 in St. louis.
The Jesus > GGSTWOF opener was great, but not the best version I've heard.
Billy was wearing an old-school style sweater, I loved it. It was like black and white checkered I think. Paz was HOT, and I'm not usually one to be all drooling over Paz. She had tight white pants on and I think a sleeveless top. She was awesome tonight in the violin parts. I mean, when they were going into "Friends as Lovers, Lovers as Friends", I thought it was gonna be "For Your Love", but I was very pleasantly surprised. That song is so good. It sounds like it would belong on the Tonight, Tonight single along with Rotten Apples and Meladori magpie. Maybe I'm just reminded of the line "No other lovers... to bend". It's just a really beautiful song.
Jackboot -- they also played "A new Poetry" which was great. I guess the song has changed since April. It sounded good though.
What was the second song of the night after Jesus > GGSTWOF? I thought it might have been a cover. I could be wrong. I couldn't make out any of the lyrics.
I liked how they tried to extend "Honestly" at least a bit more than the standard album version. The song has grown on me, I do like it a lot.
I've only listened to 1 or 2 versions of MSOTS from like Spaceland and maybe Toronto, but tonight's was so sweet. The jam was just awesome. Jimmy's rhythms on that rule.
Riverview is a really cool song, that was my first time hearing it. I enjoyed it. The crowd got off on the "north side, south side, west side, east side, pick a side" and "crusing down Western Avenue" lyrics.
The Spilled Milk started out fairly weak compared to the one I saw 4/8/02 in St. Louis, but by the end Billy was leading the vicious start-stop jamming, absolutely igniting the crowd.
I thought the show was over after Spilled Milk -- that's a good show-closer song, and I forgot that they have been doing 2 encores, but I was so glad to realize I was WRONG and then "Of a Broken Heart" was very very nice. Not too extended, just the right length.
Then before the last song, people were going nuts, and Billy goes, "do you want me to do something?" Of course everyone was cheering. billy goes, "you're all 'woooooing' but you don't even know what the 'wooooing' is for, cause we haven't done anything yet." That was funny. The crowd continued to go nuts. So finally he goes, "we wanna play a song we came up with about a week ago, we think it's pretty good. It's called 'A Certain Kind of Change.'" Then Matt goes, "What's the song about?" Billy goes, "You don't care what the song is about!", smirking and laughing all the while. Then I think the line was closer to "Once again your attempt to draw attention to yourself has failed".
The the new song was reallllly good. It totally reminded me of several different things, but I'm still not sure exactly what. I know the drumming is similar to something else, possibly something like Pissant (definitely not exactly like that, but that's the first song that came to my mind in trying to figure it out). Also overall it had some tinges of "Untitled". But maybe I was just hearing thigns on that one, not sure. Anyway I'm so glad they played a new song and it was really good.
Counting Riverview and Friends As Lovers, Lovers As Friends, and MSOTS, and El Sol, and the new song A Certain Kind of Change -- that's 5 songs I had never seen live at my 2 Zwan shows thus far (or 3 if you count 12/14/01 A and B, early and late). I am pleased.
I really outta go tomorrow and/or Saturday, but I am in such a deep hole for school already that it's not even funny... we'll see though..
Thank you Zwan!
Hey I saw TONS of people taking pics, so let's get those up :) I was gonna bring a disposable but didn't have time to buy one today, oh well. Also I saw at least one mic stand -- I hope the shn's turn out nice. thanks peeps!

Was that intro to Ride a Black Swan new? It was a really long drawn out effect that finally went into that song.
About the taping, I was in the 2nd row for a lot of the show. There were still and video cams all over the place! Professional stuff right up front. They really need to release this stuff. I was talking to one of the photo guys, he was pretty cool. He said he has his own company and now works for Zwan (or maybe just got signed to do these shows). He had like a $3500 vid cam and a $2700 regular cam (his price quotes, not my estimates or something).

pretty much all that. there was actually a little more to the billy/matt convo, but maybe i could only hear it because i was up close.
at one point billy kissed paz on the forehead, and it was cute.
i think it was better than monday but not as good as sunday. but that's me.
i'll have alot of billy pictures some time next week(no time before sunday to get them developed), but i was pretty much centered on him, so we'll see.
oh yes. i was the idiot without the coat(time # 3.)
and todd, it's my job to make the "tonight's zwan show" post.

Another note -- Billy was all about body language tonight. He was leading the crowd on to sing the "one of these days..." backing vocal in "Jesus". He did a climbing motion for the "Jacob's ladder" lyrics too.
The whole night his arms were flailing, he was pointing around and stuff... that is, when he wasn't busy shredding out sick solos.

Yet another thing -- Billy was introducing a song, I forget which one, but it might have been "A New Poetry". He said "this is not on our new album coming out Tuesday". Someone yelled, "WHY NOT???" and Billy sorta started chuckling, and said "I don't know why, I really don't know", and pointed to his head or something.
This band has enough stuff for like 3 albums, so shit... naturally some of us are gonna be disappointed when a lot is missing from this one...

I haven't heard one single Zwan song as of yet and am awaiting the official release before doing so. However, I have heard that the songs on the Zwan debut Lp are upbeat, happy songs. I've also been told that Zwan does not sound like Smashing Pumpkins and that I'm really going to like Zwan.
First of all, if Zwan does not sound like Smashing Pumpkins then what do they sound like? Is it straightforward, standard Rock, psychadelic, what?
Secondly, I may or may not like Zwan. I await. I'm not so sure that I can come to grips with a happy Billy singing happy songs. I categorically tend to dislike 'life is a ray of sunshine' type songs. Having seen and heard Zwan, what can you tell me about their music that will lay my fears to rest?

Agreed.
"Mary Star of the Sea" and "Spiled Milk" were amazing last night...better than on Sunday and Monday. Overall, though, Sunday's was the best. I was up in the balcony for Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday and for some reason the sound wasn't quite as good up there last night, though.

one more small thing, i cant believe i forgot the first time.
-during one of billys jesus solos. Matt backed upped, took his guitar off threw it on top of the speaker, walked to the back of the stage with one of the roadies and got a smoke. he came to the front of the stage and watched billy solo for a little then put the guitar back on and kept playing.

that's funny...i wonder if Matt will eventually get sick of Billy hogging the spotlight all the time....then again they probably agreed to have it that way long ago
