View Full Version : New thread idea: how many people did you interact with today?

it might be interesting if you count how many people you interact with each day. ideally, since i'm a data nerd, it'd be excellent to create a database so you could track things such as how often you interact iwth certain people, and how often you interact iwth completely new people, etc. but for now, i think it might be a cool thing if we all just count how many people you spoke with (we can define interact any way we want really) during the day. i think the most basic area is to differentiate between 'in person' and 'online'

today i have spoken to my girlfriend, a wesleyan church woman wanting business sponsorship (i turned her down), a supermarket checkout guy and a wrong-number girl. i am about to go buy some pizza so that'll be another person. pretty slim day for communication

and online people. they're not real, though. all in my head etc.

WHats self-checkout?

you scan the item yourself on this machine, and slide your credit card or feed it money. Usually a human still looks at your receipt on the way out though.

They fuck up alot and can be a horrible pain in the ass.

It’s 10:27AM.

At home I saw 3 people, My girl, My Best Friend and My Sister.

I’ve spoken to my Mother and Father this morning on email as well.

Work related it’s at least… 25 people.

In my office theres 6 people I’ve greeted / spoken to since getting here.
In other departments and on the phone I’ve had to follow up on some things.

25 is an estimation, but it’s pretty accurate I guess.

Thats rather radical.
'Usually' someone checks?
And if not?

That kind of thing wouldn’t last long here.
I think you get used to certain things.

When I was in Canada I saw like, 100 opportunities to casually help myself to things.

The shops there are hardly security conscious at all. I could have walked away with so much free shit, but I figured I’d show the country some respect, they don’t need my dirty South African ways to mess up their system.

But I mean, houses, amusement parks, everything. So much opportunity. People were so oblivious too to things. It was weird.

At ours, there's just a person standing in the front watching, and they have a computer screen that shows what's going on in all four of the self-checkout stations. So if you pretend to scan some OJ, and you put it in your bag but your OJ doesn't come up on the screen, they arrest you or whatever.

I had to go to my work, no bike. Since it is a national holiday today, buses are driving on a different schedule. Which basically meant that the bus stopping in front of my place didn't drive today. I had to walk 25 minutes, MOTHERFUCKER GODDAMN I'M GOING TO DESTROY YOUR FUCKING BIKE BITCH.

i can picture that. kids don't wanna sit still and listen to grown up conversations, they wanna crawl under the tables and spill their coke on purpose and cry over nothing and build things with food. but then big fascist geo is bothered and sends the parents looks so they pull the childrens' arms and sit them down and they don't get to have any fun at all.

my two bus drivers
my co-worker felice
my 3 bosses/supervisors at the international air cargo expo
about 50 expo participants
2 guys on the train who needed directions
my mom and grandma
thom
some lady who just administered an energy survey to me over the phone
my staffing agency rep (i got a 2-week placement :))
the staffing agency receptionist
the lady in the elevator in the skyscraper
the desk attendant in the skyscraper

roughly 65 people, i guess. i'm headed to target now, where interactions will definitely occur.
