They were never released, right? Maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, on Ebay there's a Korean version Gish vinyl, and in the picture of the booklet, there appear to be lyrics written on the left side for each song.

The included lyrics are hideously inaccurate.

They've been posted before, I don't remember where - they were quite amusing.

Obviously not, judging by the number of people who think Bury Me opens with 'Poised like an angel' or 'Boys let's do it'

The Japanese "Rotten Apples" has a lyrics sheet too (or maybe it was the Chinese one... I forget). I thought it would be cool to have official lyrics for some of those songs, like "Eye" and "Real Love" (it didn't have lyrics for Judas O). I didn't buy it, but I'm guessing that the lyrics wouldn't be accurate anyway. They're never accurate on foreign releases like this.

I have the Japanese Adore, and the lyric booklet has the addition of Once in a While. Those lyrics are correct, as are all the rest, obviously. I don't think that just because it's foreign, the lyrics are incorrect.

I knew I wasn't crazy, from Listessa Digest #777:

a couple of years ago my dad and brother went to Korea (air guard summer
camp) while they were there, i had them look for some pumpkin things, so
my dad not knowing what cd's i had, bought me gish. when he showed me the
cd, i got a little upset, cause i already had it, but then i looked
closer at it, and it had Caroline on the back, and the cd itself is red,
and has all the songs, legible. but then i looked on the inside, and the
front cover thingy, has this story of some sort, but written in Korean.
but the first page has the lyrics, but they seem to be wrong.
for instance:
"i am one"

i am one and you are three
try to find the messiah in tour trinity
your cities are too full...(next line is right)
its too full
am i as i seem
I'm not, no.

all the songs go on like this. so i am thinking someone tried to listen
to the lyrics and decided that this is what they are.

Except, not. There are mistakes there, too, like lines left out, etc.

I'm pretty sure that in a lot of Asian countries most all CDs come with lyrics. This is obviously not always the case with American releases, and it's doubtful that the members of the band are going to jot down the correct lyrics just so they can release a Korean edition or whatever. People just listen to the songs and try to get the lyrics, I doubt that English is even the first language of the transcribers.

And official lyrics aren't necessarily correct anyway. I think there was a discussion on ams-p about the official lyrics on Virgin's site being an exact copy of what was given on a fan site.

And it's Over you, like an angel. Like from the song Over You.

So what does he say at the beginning of Bury Me? Sounds just like "Boys, lets do it".

Goddamn, I can never figure out song lyrics. Why can't singers articulate better?

But on the Japanese Adore, the lyrics for Once in a While aren't written by some translator. They're actually worked into the booklet, indenting perfectly into the lyrics of Blank Page, in the same Inkbleed font, and clearly correct. Plus, the foldout Japanese paper that comes with it has things written by Billy himself to the Japanese audience about Adore. I can read some of it since I took Japanese. So it's not always the case that Asian versions with "extra" stuff like lyric sheets, etc, are innaccurate.

It's clear that, at least for the Japanese Adore CD, Billy had a good hand in putting it together. So what's cool is to read the Japanese lyric sheet that's included. Because you're always left wondering things like, "is Billy being ****phoric when he says that?" or "What does 'long horse' mean?" etc. But when you read the Japanese translation, you're able to see what Billy meant in some lines, since it's a lot harder to be so mysterious when you switch to another language. Most times, the other language ends up explicating things, assuming it's relayed from the original writer.

i absolutely refuse to believe that it's "Boys, let's do it." that doesn't even make sense considering D'arcy is female. besides, it sounds like, "born like an angel."

however, i have this from This Is The Sound by Randi Reisfeld:
"There were the bombastic songs like that first single, "I Am One," which was powered by waves of feedback and distorted, overdubbed guitar -Billy's Black Sabbath roots showing - as well as "Bury Me," which opens with Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild" played backwards."

so, it's not even anything intelligible.

I always thought it sounded like '*something*... Let the people choose...' - it doesn't sound like 'let's do it', and there aren't enough syllables for 'Over you like an angel'

Well he lives in Korea. So it's probably the Korean pressing of Gish which is worth some nice coin.
